Genius Playlist cant be created!

When I click on any song and then click on the genius button I get this error:
"Genius is unavailable for the song "Do It Again"."
The dialog tells me to update Genius from the store menu, I have done this many times and still can not create a genius playlist.
Stuff on the genius sidebar is updating!
Any ideas?
Thanks
Merchon

The Genius can only find songs that are in the iTunes Store.
Genius Playlist cant be created!
Stuff on the genius sidebar is updating!
Note that the Genius sidebar and a Genius playlist are two different things.
The Genius sidebar shows songs in the iTunes store that match your song selection. Then you can purcahse these songs.
To create a Genius playlist (of what you already own), select a song then click the Genius playlist on the left side of iTunes.

  • Will the 2.1 update have the genius playlist thing?

I thought I read the iPod touch does but I couldn't find anything on the iPhone version. Thanks

Hi all, I was tearing my hair out as well, but there is an easy (though messy) workaround. I have an iPhone 3G with 2.1 installed, but it should work for everyone.
    1. Turn Genius off (Store, Turn Off Genius)....note that this will change any Genius Playlists you have created so far into normal ones.
    2. Turn Genius back on. This will resend everything to and from Apple again, so go and make yourself a coffee!
    3. When it's all up and running again, create a new Genius Playlist in iTunes, and copy this to your iPhone or Ipod Touch.
    4. Sync your device.
    5. Open Playlists, and the first item should now be the Genius Menu, and you should see your Genius Playlist in the Playlists.
I hope this helps you all out. Cheers from Down Under.

  • HT1399 Why cant I create a playlist for my music/song videos? Continuous play is also not possible in the video app on the phone!!!! previously, prior to IOS 6, it was possible to have both music videos & songs mixed in the same playlist in the music app

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?
    Thanks Al

  • How do i create and save a genius playlist in iTunes 12?

I can see my genius playlists from older versions of iTunes but I can't figure out how to make a new one!

    Hi there Michael Moriconi,
You may find the information about Genius Playlists in the User Guide below helpful.
Use Genius Shuffle, Genius playlists, or Genius Mixes - iTunes Help
    Create a Genius playlist
Create a Genius playlist: Move the pointer over a song, click , and choose Create Genius Playlist.
Change the maximum number of songs in a Genius playlist: Click next to the song total and choose a number from the pop-up menu.
Get new songs based on the same song: Click Refresh .
A Genius playlist has this icon next to it.

  • Can I move my external drive library in order to create a Genius playlist?

Our iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive, and the computer we use it with is a desktop G3 (stop laughing) running OSX 10.3.9 (OK, really, stop laughing) and the latest version of iTunes I can use with that, iTunes 7 (end of comedy routine). Of course, this is the wife's computer which she only uses for email & internet, so it hasn't been a problem so far.
I would like to create some Genius playlists for that library utilizing my laptop which has 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.0.2.
Is it possible for my to connect the hard drive to my laptop and access that library in my laptop's iTunes for the purpose of creating some Genius playlists that would then be available back on the G3? It would be sweet if this wouldn't affect the laptop's small library stored on it's internal hard drive and in the default iTunes directory as well.
    Thanks!

Actually you can store just some, but you always have to remember to option+drag in the future for those media:

  • I have a generation 5 Nano iPod. I have created Genius playlists  and want to sync them to my iPod. How do I do this, as they are not shown in my library when syncing my music.

I have a generation 5 Nano iPod. I have created suggested playlists from the iTunes store using Genius. I want to move these playlists into the playlists in my library so they can be synced to my iPod. I don't seem to be able to do this, and can only listen to these Genius playlists on my computer. How do I transfer these?

On a 5th gen nano, you can actually create and listen to Genuis playlists on the iPod.
You can also set up automatic syncing to include Genius Playlists.
In iTunes, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the Genuis playlists that you create are shown under GENIUS (not PLAYLISTS).
If you use automatic syncing, you set up the iPod's Music screen in iTunes (where the Sync Music checkbox is located).  Genius playlists are shown on the iPod's Music screen, under Playlists, where you can select (checkmark) them as items to be synced to the iPod and maintained by iTunes.
If you use the manual method (with the Manually manage music and videos setting), there is no way to include the actual Genius playlists.  However, you can create a new playlist manually on the iPod using iTunes.  Then, drag the songs from a Genius playlist to that playlist on the iPod.

  • Can't create a Genius Playlist from most 2011 songs.

For some reason, I cant seem to make a Genius Playlist from what seems like any song bought in the latter half of 2011.  Is anyone else having this same problem? Any help is appreciated.

I've had the same problem since having my 4S on AT&T and now on my 5. Siri responds with "playing similar songs" but the previous playlist or shuffle keeps going. This used to work but I'm not sure which iOS update broke it.

  • HT2978 I have genius playlists previously created that can no longer be refreshed.

"Genius is unavailable for the song 'songname'"
This is on windows 7, itunes 11.0.1.12.
My library is 116235 items, 710 GB.
The previous mixes (there are several) still show up under Genius and play/transfer fine, but cannot be refreshed.
Selecting the same song and creating a new genius playlist does not work either.
I have "updated genius" several times to no avail.
I suppose I am looking for a trick to force genius updates for particular tracks.
At a minimum, I'd like to know if there is a maximum item limit or restriction for the genius results.

Are you trying to drag songs to a regular or a smart playlist? You cannot drag songs to a smart playlist, instead you have to make the tags match the smart playlists conditions (or make the conditions match the tags). If you are having problems dragging to a regular playlist, try opening that playlist in a second window by double clicking on it, move it aside so you can see both iTunes windows, and try dragging the song from the Library into the playlist's window.

  • Siri can't create a genius playlist?

I have an iPhone 5S on Verizon with iOS 7.0.4.
Whenever I ask Siri to create a genius playlist based on the current song, it doesn't work. I'll ask Siri to "Play more songs like this" or "genius" and Siri will say that it is playing more songs like the current song, but it never creates the genius list. If I manually create the playlist via the Music app, I don't have a problem. Anyone else have this problem too? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Chaiya

  • How many songs needed to create a Genius playlist?

I was wondering if there is any rule of thumb about how many songs I would need on my iphone to create a Genius playlist. I currently have 1566 songs, but I ususally get the same old message about not having enough songs to create a list. I have many similar artists--sometimes more than one album by that artist, but it's rare that I can get Genius to work. I do occasionally get a list.
    iPhone 5 with iOS 7
Related question--have just started playing around with the radio on iOS 7, but I haven't found an artist yet that lets me create a station. I assume they have very few artists signed up so far? Can't give up Pandora yet!

have you tried connecting it to itunes?  i know when you sync it to itunes sometimes it downloads genius information...
i have 2355 songs on my itunes.

  • ITunes 11: How to create a genius playlist without saving it?

In iTunes 11, how can I create a genius playlist without saving it? This was possible in iTunes 10; I could select a song, hit the Genius button to create a genius playlist based off that song, then if I wanted to, I could click a "Save" button to save the playlist. Otherwise, by default the genius playlist would be overwritten the next time I chose "genius" on a different song.

In the "carrot menu" next to each song, I see an option to "Start Genius."
When I select that, the list of songs in my Up Next list changes, but there's no "real place" to see the Genius List like the Genius list in the previous version of iTunes. If you select this from a song that's not currently playing, it will start to play (as in the prev itunes).
I echo your frustration here. So many things seem to be half-way between one model and another.

  • I have to be on wifi to create a genius playlist?

i have different playlists on each of my devices. Today I tried to create a genius playlist from a song and first my iPhone froze up, then after closing the music app all of my playlist I had in my phone disappeared and all of my playlista from other devices loaded, then I got a message to connect to wifi to create a playlist. It then created a playlist, but after I turned off wifi the playlist disappeared. Tried it all again, only this time I got a message that rhere were not any songs that matched the song that I wanted to match.

    Hi CFWeatherman,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communiites.
It sounds like you are not getting iTunes Match playlists when you are not connected to Wi-Fi. You do need an internet connection. See the following  from the iTunes Match troubleshooting article:
If you're using  an iOS device and aren't on a Wi-Fi network, turn on 3G cellular data for iTunes Match. Fees might be associated with downloading over cellular networks; contact your wireless carrier for details.

  • Genius on iPhone only displays "This song doesn't have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist"?

I have 30 days worth of music on my (128 GB) iPhone and it displays the message "This song doesn't have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist" for even the most popular Beatles tracks. My iTunes library will create Genius playlists with no problem at all, but my phone will not. The only thing I can think of is that I updated Genius after actually putting the music on the phone, but I have turned Genius off/on again on the phone itself to encourage results to be reestablished and yet still nothing. I have also synched the iPhone multiple times since.
I really do not want to remove and re-add 12,000 (75 GB worth) songs from my iPhone just to get some valid Genius results. Does anyone have a solution?

It is like the message says. You do not have enough similar songs for Genius to work.

  • Why cant I form a Genius playlist from my ipod touch anymore

Why cant I form a Genius playlist from my ipod touch anymore?

    To update
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes
iTunes 10 for Windows: Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
A 1G iPod can go to iOS 2.2 via iTunes and iOS 3.1.3 via
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later

  • Hello, are there many others having problems with creating Genius Playlists from their iPhone 5's

    Hello People,
are there many others experiencing problems creating Genius Playlists from their iPhone 5's???
I have a 64GB Black iPhone 5 and a 32GB White iPhone 5, I have recently performed a fresh install (wiped phone memory and installed Apps individually again) yet even after this and no less then several calls to Apple I am still unable to create a genius playlist on either phone. The message I receive after hitting the Genius "star" is "The operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out" Operation timed out."
I have tried this also on 3G and receive the same message........

I wish Apple would have provided more detail on how it worked. I wouldn't have posted this if I new that SMS & Mac Calling had nothing to do with Bluetooth pairing.
You mean like this? Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
Please note how Apple articulates this though.
    Check your settings
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Sometimes things have to be explained in more detail for the general consumer who has been conditioned for decades to think about wireless  cellphone audio / light data to [anything other device else] connectivity in a certain fashion. That is to say Bluetooth dependent ...
For the non-technical person, which overwhelmingly many Apple users are, they would see that bulleted point and think if Bluetooth is not paired and active, then they would not received the full scope of their Continuity features.
It would have been better for the copywriter who wrote this to (*) footnote this entry and explain that while Bluetooth recognition may be necessary between Yosemite and iPhone, SMS Push to iMessage and Mac Calling does not require an actively paired connection as these functions are dependent on iCloud and both devices being registered on the same WiFi network.
Thank you to all who helped me get my mind around and figure this out.
It has also opened my eyes to how iCloud has become a critical link in Apple's overall walled garden  and business strategy.
