Genius Problem

Hello,
I have a long-term serious problem:
I have an Ipod touch 32GB 3rd Gen. with OS 4.02
and an Acer Laptopo with Windows 7 and ITunes10.
that's for the technical specs.
My problem is that my Genius is turned on in Itunes and updated and it works fine only in my library, on my laptop. I can't get it to make playlists on my Ipod either when it's connected to Itunes and when it's not. when connected there's just no such option and when i touch the Genius Icon on the ipod it generates a message that says "try again this song does not have enough related song bla bla bla..." I tried everything and i'm kinda goin loco.
I would appreciate a little help here.
thanks very much

I believe it only works with songs that are available in the itunes store, so if you use it a lot you will never hear anything from more obscure bands, or just anyone who isn't signed to a major label. additionally to that, I'm sure there will be a lot of marketing manipulation going into how it decides what you listen to. I would not be surprised to find that songs from a band will be recommended more often when they have a new album coming out soon.
just for example, it may be my imagination but after using it for a couple of days it seems to me that U2 and gorillaz (who have both been part of ipod/itunes marketing for years) are coming up a disproportionate amount for completely unrelated artists.
also if there is a band which is on itunes but you have songs which aren't then you'll never hear those either. e.g. the latest minotaur shock album was released exclusively on his website, (for a much lower price than itunes sells anything) therefore if you try to search songs from that album nothing comes up, but if you search from his other albums (which are available on itunes) you get plenty of results.
to me this is such a major flaw i might not use genius at all, i don't want to have what i listen to manipulated in this way. if only we could have last.fm incorporated into itunes somehow, that is a truly user generated, unbiased music recommendation service.

  • Genius problems in iTunes 9, my findings so far....

Ever since upgrading to iTunes 9 I have been unable to update Genius and able to use it
What I have tried so far in iTunes 9.1 on Windows Vista:-
Tried updating Genius on whole library (approx 180mb, 30000 tracks) kept getting a Network Time Out Error when trying to send genius file to Apple
I decided to make a new library and kept adding incrementally until I got the Network Time Out error again. Once I did I islolated those tracks (hoping there was some weird character in the ID tag), so I made a new library with just those tracks but genius updated fine.
I have made two test libraries and it seems that there is some threshold where my pc wont successfully send the Genius info to Apple. Has anyone else had similar problems?

  • Drive Genius problems?

I'm a little confused, when I open the program, it lists Macintosh HD, and below that is "nicklange19" a white blank drive. They both have the same GB's left, but the top disk can only be repaired or shred.
The next option the "blank, white drive" below that, has all the options; repair, defragment, duplicate, sector edit etc.
But the problem I am having is when I click to do anything, to either of the "volumes" it says the HD unmount failed. I bought the disk through eBay and it didn't include a manual.
    Thanks,
    -Nick

First off what version is it? Only the recent version, 1.5.x, is compatible with Intel Macs. If you have an earlier version please do not use it to repair your Intel Mac, it is not compatible.
You cannot repair any active startup volume. You have to boot the computer from a different drive or from the Drive Genius bootable CD in order to repair your startup volume.
Drive Genius is developed by ProSoft Engineering (www.prosofteng.com.) I suggest you consult them for a copy of the manual and for technical support. You can also download a current version of Drive Genius.

  • Genius Problem With App Stor

    Hello,
I received my iphone 5 last week.
I noticed that Genius freez and makes me return to the springboard.
If I sign out of my account in Settings > itunestore/appstore > Apple ID > Disconnect : Genius Works !
Can you help me to fix it ?
    thx a lot

When I initially tried to download, it failed and forced a reboot. I tried several times to kick off the upgrade again and it seemed to just ignore the download after I clicked to upgrade and logged in.
I took the advice above and looked for the icon on launch pad. It was paused. I clicked on it and now it has resumed downloading. Thank you!

  • Drive Genius problem

I recently purchased a copy of Prosoft Drive Genius on the advice of people at the local Apple store. I was starting to experience a few quirks with my software and wanted a current diagnostic program, and Drive Genius was highly rated. I did a diagnostic first and it said there were no damaged files. I then had it defrag my hard drive, and it caused my imac to lock up in startup (blue screen with the spinning clock). Is there something specific that would cause this? Prosoft tech support wasn't very helpful.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you haven't already tried this.... grab your system restore disk (or Tiger disk) that came with your iMac. Make sure the computer is shut down. Now, press the Power Button, hold down the C key and insert the system disk all at the same time. Let go of the C key when you see the Apple logo.
An Installer window will open by default. Instead, click Utilities/Startup Manager in the Menu. A pane will open. It may take a minute... when you see MacintoshHD 10.4.7, select that and click Restart. It might be that the software didn't give you an option to reboot from the internal drive and that's why you are getting the blue screen.

  • Genius problems

Hey, I just got a new iMac 21.5 inch for christmas. I have installed itunes 9.0.2 and i got all my music loaded in to it. which is about 55 gigs. I started to send my info to genius yesterday and left it running. I came home about 10 hours later to find that not only was the task not complete but it looked like it was frozen with the spinning beach ball of death. everything else works fine ie. internet, the rest of itunes, all other programs...just this genius function issue. any ideas?

    Here's a suggestion from MacWorld's tips: http://www.macworld.com/article/142752/2009/09/itunes9_safari.html
Try deleting the relevant Apple cookies from Safari. To do so, quit iTunes, go to Safari and select Preferences -> Security -> Show Cookies. In the search text box enter apple.com. To be extra sure of getting the job done, you can select all of these files and click to Remove. Otherwise, you can start by removing only the .phobos.apple.com items(s), as well as any other items that contain the word “itunes,” and hope that is sufficient.

  • How do you get an Ipod Classic to make Genius mixes using the songs you want?

My Ipod Classic is now about four years old. it's the grey, 160gb model. the hard drive doesn't click, so it's in stable, working condition, as far as I can tell, but lately, I've been having a few problems with it. first and foremost, it's stubbornly refusing to make Genius Playlists for me, using the songs I want. Secondly, it's not playing some songs. now, the second issue isn't new, and I've fixed it before, but that brings me to my third issue.
when opening Klondikes (because that's the only game I play on my ipod out of the three that come with it) the other day, it gave me an error message stating "game cannot be opened because ipod is full" or something like that. I have 160 gigabytes of storage, and all I have on there is music.
anyway, back to the Genius problem.
So I'll tell the Ipod to make a new Genius Mix from a selected song. in this case, I'll use Alestorm's "Keelhauled" for example. I made an edit of the song, decreasing the tempo, and drawing out the length of the song to 4:20. every single time, the ipod will use that instead of the original.
Say I use "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (from The Hobbit, of course). the ipod uses the Kygo Remix I have.
Say I use "One Eight Zero" by Grendel. it uses the remix.
Say I use "The Sunk'n Norwegian", by Alestorm. the Ipod uses the Acoustic version.
Say I use "7 Days to the wolves", by Nightwish. it actually uses that song, and not the Instrumental version.
for "Whispers In The Dark", by Skillet, it doesn't use it, or the Instrumental version cause it can't find a match. (not a problem, just extraneous information.)
Say I use "We Can Make The World Stop" by The Glitch Mob. it uses a piano cover.
the trend I'm noticing here is that it only applies to songs with remixes. but as I have 1408 songs on my ipod, and need to be at work in an hour, I'm not going to look through everything to find every single instance of this.
the ID3 tags for these songs are correct.
Now, this is likely just a tagging issue, but the software should treat them as different songs. after all, most of them are stored in completely different blocks of memory. most of these are even different genres than the originals. and in the case of Keelhauled, because I exported the remix from Garageband, I'm listed as the Artist.
can someone please explain to me what's going on with my ipod, or give me some insight into what's going on under the hood?

A "classic" iPod is really a hard drive with a media player tacked on.  Like any hard drive (including your computer's), it can develop data corruption.  For example, maybe you mistakenly or accidentally disconnected it from the computer while it was syncing.  Or you dropped it, while the iPod was trying to access its drive for song data.  Or the hard drive can be getting worn out and unreliable.
The Restore will not fix the problem if the hard drive is becoming faulty.  But if the data corruption was caused by something else, the Restore should fix it by erasing the hard drive to give it a "fresh start," like reformatting your computer's drive and reinstalling the OS.

  • Genius keeps freezing

Every time i open my itunes my genius loads and when its either just starting or almost finish it just freezes, then it tell me that it cant be used so im forced to exit. I went into safe mode to see what was going on and it said that the problem was bonjour (i looked up the update and nothing was wrong), i even tried remobing itunes form my computer 3 times and putting it back on that didnt even work. (By the way i am using vista) im getting so frustrated that i want to throw my computer is there anything that i can do to stop it from freezing

I called and spoke to someone thru 1800-MY-APPLE. He told me I have downloaded something that is conflicting with Apple Software. Trying to figure out what that is has been my problem. What I have done in the interim is continue to open iTunes thinking one of these times I will be able to turn off Genius. Then by some miracle force of nature Genius stopped gathering library info and gave it a rest. I was now able to turn Genius off! Not that my bad software problem is solved but, at least I can use iTunes again. I hope you get you're Genius problem figured out JenniOrangeMonster.

  • YouTube Problems behind TMG Firewall

    Hi Geniuses,
Problem we're having. We're a Government Entity that has its full connection traffic routed to us through another parent hierarchial department.
We run a Microsoft Threat Management Gateway 2010 (ISA Server) Firewall locally that filters our traffic quite well.
If we play YouTube videos via IE/Firefox/Chrome/Safari on local AD authenticated user accounts on Desktops we don't have an issue.
We connect our iPad/iPhone devices to the WiFi however and most services work - Except YouTube. And thats both the YouTube App, and the m.youtube.com URL within Safari. Whilst we can use both to search, and bring up previews of the videos, when you go to click on the Video's they just will not play or load and gives the error 'the operation could not be completed'.
From what we can see on the TMG Logs, the requests going out to YouTube are all Port 80 Traffic, but it fails in the connection somehow.
Does anyone know specifically the handshake/authentication process with the YouTube App? What ports it initialises, whats contained in the headers etc.?
    Cheers!
    hamgatan

I had this issue and solved it. The reason for a lot off these issues is that Apple hates Adobe flash which is the method most site use to stream movies instead apple uses multithread http . Many virus scanners turn off HTTP resume because it makes it impossible for virus scanners to scan http content.
If you are using an internet service with virus scanning as a part of the service package or using wireless where a firewall is in use this is more than likely the problem.
Solution :  Just add a Destination Exceptions in Malware Inspection , and just it problem solved

  • All Contacts disappear from iPhone -- temporarily

I have a recurring problem with my iPhone which occurred under 3.0 and now under 3.1, and even after a "restore as new phone" and replacement of the SIM card: occasionally, I'll go into the iPhone Contacts app and it will be empty -- no contacts at all, even if they were there minutes earlier. They eventually reappear after a reboot (without my doing any kind of "restore" -- I sync my contacts wirelessly over MobileMe). Yesterday, for example, I opened up my Contacts app to make a call; the contacts were all there, and I tapped on a particular contact to call him, and instead of his contact details being displayed, all my contacts disappeared. i rebooted and they reappeared.
I have asked about this at the Genius Bar and the Genius said it was happening because I was in an area with no cell signal, and that since I sync wirelessly with MobileMe, my contacts will disappear when I have no cell signal. However, that doesn't make sense, since my contacts do not disappear when I put the iPhone into Airplane Mode (in which case by definition there is no signal) or when the phone actually displays "No Signal" at the top of the screen. And when it happened yesterday, I had 5 bars in the signal display.
    So I have several questions:
    (a) has anyone else experienced this?
    (b) does anyone have any ideas on solving it?
    (c) does anyone think the Genius Bar explanation makes sense?

I am facing the same problem. my Contacts names disappear . Phone number is what just remains.
However I do not think it is a Genius Problem. OR it is not even a problem of no cell phone coverage.
Problems like these are usually OS Problems. So I think 3.1 is with full of bugs.
    2) I dont know how to solve it. looking for soultion

  • I have recently found it impossible to make a genius bar appointment on line. has anyone else had the same problem? is this a deliberate Apple policy? or have they accidentally put in a number of loops into their website?

difficulty booking genius bar appointments on line.

It is my understanding that they're trying to get more information from you and offer other possible support options first. They probably want to cut down on unnecessary appointments by attempting to resolve simple issues online and are also trying to avoid some situations where people were booking multiple appointments for a variety of reasons.
I made one a couple of weeks ago with no problems. It was for a screen repair so it was pretty definitely not an issue that could be resolved by chat or a phone call.

  • Problem with genius in musik app after upgrade to iOS 7.1.

After updating to iOS 7.1. the genius function of the music app cannot be used anymore? How can I fix that? Or is this a general problem?

I have not experienced the same.
I have tried restoring and the problem is still present.
You restored from your iPhone's backup, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup?
If whatever software problem is causing this is included with your iPhone's backup, restoring from the backup will also restore the problem.
Try restoring as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup to see if this makes any difference. If not, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar once already) my WiFi isn't working on my iPhone 4S. This is really infuriating and costly!!! I see others have the same issues.  Can't Apple do anything about this?  It's obviously a hardware problem!

For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar already once with this) my Wifi isn't working.  They gave me a new iphone last time, but the new one has the same issue as the old one, I'm guessing.  I've tried resetting the network but that doesn't work.
I see others have this issue too.
If this is a hardware problem why doesn't Apple fix it?  Or do I just have to wait another year for another upgrade?
Currently it's not costing me anything - yet - because I've got the Apple Warranty but this is totally frustating!!! I bought the original phone (which has been replaced in July 2012.  The new phone (without working Wifi) is a month old.
Will try Restore via ITunes before (I will invariably) have to return to the Genius Bar for another Iphone 4S unless someone has an ingenius solution here?..?

For what reason, other than making yourself look foolish, would you ask questions that we users could not possibly answer as we're NOT Apple?
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  Nothing more "ingenius" to suggest than these steps that Apple has outlined in the manual.  If these steps don't work, then go back to the Apple store.
