Genius Recommendations Question

Ok, genius is awesome... I was used to last.fm being my choice for getting to know new artists, but genius does a great job. However, there is a slight problem i don't get, and even why apple chose to program iTunes this way is beyond me.
When listening to your music in shuffle mode, your genius recommendations don't update. It will always just show the recommendations for the song that is selected in the list, being the song you clicked to start the music playing.
Choosing spacebar or "play" button on my mac keyboard does nothing at all, then a message saying "Select a song in your library to see related music" is showing.
Not only is this a bit annoying, as i wanna see related artists, and become aware of some other cool music. And also, wouldn't it have been better for apple to make it so the genius recommendations was updating for the playing song, and not the song that was selected? There would be more recommendations, and potentially more sales in iTunes.
Anyhow, does anyone know of a setting to change this?

  • In iTunes 11 how do you get Genius recommendations from the iTunes store

In iTunes 11 how do you get Genius recommendations from the iTunes store. It would appear that I can only get Genius recommendations from my own library. This was easy in iTunes 10 and enabled me to find lots of good artists I had never heard of.

I have this same question and all I have found on it is this,
    http://ipod.about.com/od/advanceditunesuse/ss/genius_store.htm
Basically it seams they got rid of the whole side bar concept of things to make it all more streamline, understandable but I know atleast for myself that genius sugestion for any song is how I found new artists and songs I never knew existed.
If you go to the Album the go to "In the Store" it will give you a recomendation for that album... not exaclty what you might be looking for but atleast its something, if anyone else has a way to get genius sugestions for individual songs I am all ears and would love to hear about it.

  • I want the Genius recommendation column back.  Is this possible with the latest iTunes?  If not, this was a poor decision to remove it :/

    Hi,
Genius recommendations are available in the itunes Store.

  • HT1879 my genius recommendations in the Itunes store have not updated in months. Can we automatically reset them.

My genius recommendations have not updated in 3 months in the Itunes store so clearly they no longer care to sell music.  Does anyone know of a manual way to update the recommendaions? Thx

Don't worry about it I've decided to move on and get and android phone instead. Your stuff may be very easy to use and this would be ok if it just worked but when it doesn't I want to be able to take control of my hardware and software to make the changes that I need to to get it to work the way I want.
    Good-bye Apple

  • Genius recommendations in itunes

I'm trying to get used to the new iTunes. In the older version, when I looked at my Library of songs Genius provided recommendations on the right. I don't see that anymore. How can I see a list of Genius recommendations for a given song? Thank you.

The wish list link is at the top right corner of the main store page under the quick links below the Welcome. The down-pointing arrow at the right of every buy button in music and video is the button to gift the item, add the item to your wish list, copy a link to the item, etc. You can buy your whole wish list at once, or buy individual items, or click the X at the right of the item when you mouse over it to delete it from your wish list. The shopping cart didn't work that well anyways.

  • Genius Recommendations in the iTunes store does not show the TV tab anymore.

Recently the Genius recommendations in the iTunes store stopped even displaying the "TV" tab.  I still see the music and movies tabs (and the recommendations in them).  However, there is no tab for TV Shows.  About the same time (maybe simultaneously not positive though) I stopped seeing the quick link (upper right hand side of screen) to get to the TV Shows portion of my wish list.  For the wish list I can still scroll down to the TV section and click "see more" to get to the full list.  However in the Genius recommendations even the "show more" doesn't give me any TV Shows.
Has anybody ever seen this before?  I'm at a loss after some quick searching on the web.

    Try this,
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

  • While reviewing the Genius Recommendations, iTunes is not letting me listen to the sample song. I click on the play icon and nothing happens.

While reviewing the Genius recommendations, iTunes is not responding to my mouse click on the play icon to listen to a sample of the song.

From my knowledge the computer just Syncs to the phone not iCloud..
It can update & restore etc..
iCloud is just a back up service for the info on your phone..
Have you tried doing a Factory Settings via iTunes..Then a restore.

  • Help with Genius Recommendations???

    Hi,
Am I doing something wrong or is it just not possible to edit the Genius recommendations of an iTunes account?
There are a few artists and songs bought by others on my account and I'd rather not be recommended those. It would be good to ask that a certain artist not be recommended again. And in movies too.
    Regards.

Sorry, but there's no way to tailor or edit Genius recommendations.
    Regards.

  • Were is genius recommendations

just upgraded to mountain lion, can't find the genius recommendations in my itunes.its running in the "update my genius" but normally when you play a tune you can choose to open genius recommendations whilst playing a song. But I can't see were to turn this on now in since installing mountain lion!! Any help people ???

In the album view when you click on an album it expands and shows all the tracks.
It also shows top right next to the Songs button an In The Store button when you click on this you see Recomended Songs which I think is the same as Genius recomendations

  • ITunes App Genius recommendations are gone on iOS7

There used to be Genius recommendations in the App Store (on the iPad in this case.)  They're gone--did Apple just decide on a different direction or something? Is it hidden in a secret menu or something?

If you look around, there are several entries on this problem. Unfortunately, there seem to be no solutions as of yet. You are not alone in this problem. So far it appears to be a cross-platform problem as PC users are having the same issue. "Genius Recommends" worked rather oddly in the last few releases of iTunes but now it seems to work not at all beyond page one.

  • Reset Genius recommendations and likings.

    Hello,
I currently have set up Genius on my iTunes account again, only it is still recommending songs for things I liked in the past. I like to have a fresh start at times, so is it possible to reset the recommendations of Genius on your account (and likings and dislikings) to the way how it was when you just have set up your iTunes account?
Excluding purchases and the songs you really have in your library, of course.
    Thanks in advance.

As much as I'd love to also start fresh with my recommendations, nothing I've tried has worked. The only way I could imagine it would be possible would be if iTunes updated the Genius Recommendations feature, or if somehow it could ignore your purchase history, something that Genius bases most emphasis on in its recommendations.
If you would like to get some really great recommendations that you can control 1000% more easily, I would suggest using outside services like last.fm (for free). Last.fm allows you to keep track of music you play on iTunes and on your iPod/ MP3 device, and recommends based on that. You can also delete artists you no longer like from your online account so that they don't interfee with your recommendations. (Sorry for advertising, but it's true!) Hopefully in the future, iTunes' Genius feature will be a little more flexible and user-friendly, so we won't have to rely on outside sources to recommend new music to us. Until then, I see no other solutions.

  • Itunes genius recommendations not showing

I've used Genius recommendations for itunes music for some time when you click on iTunes the section where it says Genius recommendations is there. Now it it isn't. Does any one know how tot get this back?

  • Genius Recommendations

See More does not work? Only the first page is available, then when you click "see more" nothing happens?

Just like the other users who resplyed to your post, I would like to add myself to the list of iTune users who experience a non-working "Genius Recommendations" feature. Exactly as described previously by others, I used the feature frequently with no problem what-so-ever, until I have upgraded iTunes to the latest version along with the latest OS upgrade. Since the upgrades occured at the same time, I am no sure which one is causing the problem, so I called the Apple Support for help. They walked me through a couple of steps to clear up some leftover "software bits" following the system and software upgrade as well as asked me to re-install the iTunes, but told me that I didn't have to un-install the existing one prior to the installation of the newly downloaded iTunes. Well, unfortunatelly none of it helped! They simply didn't have a solution for me and told me to browse through the forum for answers... That's how I found your posting. It would surely be nice for Apple to acknowledge the problem and let users know if they are or aren't working on finding a solution.
I hope that if anyone is lucky enough to find a solution or reach a knowledgeable support tech who is willing to go the extra mile to find a solution, that they would come back here and share the info with the rest of us who are looking for answers!
    Good luck to all.

  • Genius Recommendations TV Shows

iTunes invites me to share my opinion on their Genius Recommendations for TV shows for me so they can fine tune
and the recommendations will grow even more tailored to my taste. And yet I see no way to share my opinion with them. No thumbs up or down like appear in Movies and music. I have brought this to their attention, and yet, after many updates to iTunes, it stays the same. Is it just me, or is this the same in everyone's TV show genius recommendations?

    Halleluia it is fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Genius Recommendations, gone batty

I was very keen on the genius recommendations with the iTunes Store for a long time but they seem to have gone totally off lately.
I bought one song by an artist, Gabriella Cilmi, before Christmas, specifically for my wife. Since then, all my recommendations are awash with variations on the Cilmi style - Sugarbabes, Robbie Williams, all sorts of stuff that is a total anathema to my iTunes library. I've tried giving it just "one star" and updating genius but that has made no difference whatsoever.
When I go to Genius Recommendations it's on the first page of recommendations. When I click "More", it's also on the second page - how just one sodding song can do this I don't know but, anyway, before I just delete the track altogether from my library (I can only hope that will work and return me to something more normal), is there any way of excluding stuff from the "genius recommendations" process? I can't see anything like an "ignore" function in the song info etc.
