Genuine Fractals 6.0 Pro aperture plugin

Just noticed that the new GF 6.0 pro edition includes support for Aperture. Not sure how useful this is since you could just use the standalone version. But I guess it saves a step or two.

FlatE,
I had a number of photos taken in candlelight in a project in Aperture, some of which resulted from panning from side to side. I chose two that were taken seconds apart, and sent them to Photoshop to be merged into a panorama. Since Photomerge in PS does not make either of the original images the resultant, I had to save the panorama as a new image (TIFF in this case), and Import it back into Aperture for further editing. The primary retouching I wanted to then do in Aperture was to use Noise Ninja, which I have only set up as a plugin in Aperture, even though I have the license to set it up as stand alone or as a plugin to PS. I simply chose to not do much editing to the original images, but rather to wait for the merged panorama.
I then chose Pages because I trusted both its resizing ability and ease to add text below the photo as a title when printed. I felt more confident to take a PDF to the outside printing service, than a pure photo format. Obviously I could have stayed in Photoshop if I had set Noise Ninja up to use there after the merge but I like the editing of shading in Aperture better than in Photoshop, these days. Btw, I exported the retouched panorama from Aperture before dragging it into Pages. This was not a workflow for a mass of images, but one special one.

  • Aperture 3 - Genuine Fractals output gets hinky

Okay, this is a strange one: I have Genuine Fractals as a plug-in on Aperture 3. I selected a NEF (Nikon RAW) image and went to upsize it with GF - got the message that Aperture had to quit and reopen as 32 bit - fine, no problem. It did that, I made the enlargement and applied it. Everything seemed fine.
In Aperture's browsing window, the thumbnail of the TIF file created by GF looks identical to the original RAW file, as it should. However, the image of the TIF appearing in the viewing window above is "cut off" - that is, it only shows about 1/2 of the full image size. WHen I attempt to export the version as a JPEG, the JPEG that comes out is also this portion of the full image.
Meanwhile, if I open the TIF image in Preview or Photoshop Elements, it shows up as the complete original photo - no truncation. But when I try to do a "save as" in Elements (both versions 6 and 9) it doesn't even allow me to select JPEG from the list of alternative file types - only PNG, PSD etc. And this happened with more than one original image, so it's not a case of some data corruption in a single file.
I quit and reopened Aperture (so it's back in 64 bit mode) but that did not help.
How do I get Aperture to recognize the full TIF image and thus enable it to export a JPG of same?
Thanks for anyone who can explain...

Ok so summary- really two things:
How do I send RAW files to Photoshop for retouching and specify where the new PSD is created so I don't have to delete duplicates?
I think the closest thing to what you want here is to set up a custom Image Export preset(s) to export a PSD 16-bit (you can choose colorspace and DPI as well). The 'Shift-Command-E' shortcut loads the export dialog and you can designate a location as well as folder and file naming.
The 'Edit' at the bottom of the Folder and File naming drop-downs will get you to the pane allowing customization on a pretty deep level here.
Main caveat = in all cases in my experience, export sends a one layer PSD file to the location.
Note - I don't know much about Apple Script, but you may be able to come up with something for this to make it automated to some degree.
And how do I send the original Photoshop file back to Photoshop without Aperture duplicating it first.
I don't think this can be done.
Assuming you import a PSD into Aperture for management, exporting doesn't drop you back in to Aperture with the edits (only the 'Edit with Photoshop CSx will do that, which obviously makes the new Master prior to sending).
The other problem that I have experienced with multiple edits in both programs is this:
1 - Import PSD file and make adjustments in Aperture
2 - Send to Photoshop to edit (layers, filters, whatever) and save back to Aperture
3 - Apply more edits to saved file in Aperture
4 - Send back to Photoshop and edits from step #3 do not exist in resent file
I have only been successful in keeping the edits in step #3 if I make a duplicate version for the file after step #3 for resending to Photoshop, but this flattens the file nullifying the idea.
Basically, I haven't found a way to add edits to a PSD file in Aperture and send to Photoshop without flattening the file.
Maybe someone else has an idea on this one.

  • Where to find Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Mac anymore?

    HI,
I'm a freelance illustrator working a lot with Photoshop CS.... running OSX 3.9.
I'm wondering where previous versions of Genuine Fractals 3.5 might be found?
I looked around the GF home page and couldn't find any links.
Where would one go to find such a thing?
I don't need to update the rest of my computer system, but wish I could get the older version of GF.
    Thanks for any clues...
    John Nez

    Thanks.
But I'm still wondering where one would go about finding a legitimate copy of Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Panther?
I'm finding more and more software companies simply abandon the software that will ONLY run on Panther... and leave the only available option to consumers to buy a new $3000 Mac Pro to run the new software.  For instance with browser software, only Camino will reliably run on my computer anymore.  All the rest require a new computer to actually work properly.
Meanwhile, my Powermac (which also cost $3000) is perfectly useful with many years of life left in it.
But back to my question... is there anyone who still sells the Genuine Fractals 3.5 for Mac I wonder?
    Thanks!

  • CS5 error message after installing Genuine Fractals 6

I've just installed Genuine Fractals 6 into CS5 and when I launch PS, I get the following error message - see screen grab.
I've now removed GF but I still get the error message. Anyone know how to rectify this?

Since my prior message I have installed 6.0.6 into Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7 x64 and I do not see the error you are describing.  Perhaps there are several different CoreFoundation.dlls on your system, and Genuine Fractals is accessing the wrong one.
Is yours the 6.0.6 version?  And are you seeing it in 32 bit Photoshop or 64 bit or both?
    What is your operating system?
Sounds like their installer didn't remove everything it installed.
If it can help you to remove all the files, these are the files it installed into my Photoshop 32 bit folder, all having a Mod date of 5/31/2010.  Note that there are several more beyond the list shown above:

  • Photomatix Pro vs. plugin

I haven't found a good answer to this question. I would like to create HDR photos (they just look otherworldly sometimes) and have seen a lot of photographers use Photomatix.
HDRsoft offers two products that I could download. One is an Aperture 3 plugin that allows one to created HDR photos within Aperture 3. I like that. It seems to be missing some batch processing functions that are available on Photomatix Pro.
Any opinions or thoughts on either the Aperture Plugin, Photomatix Pro or both? I'm just doing amateur photography, so batch processing seems like overkill, but then again, maybe the other features of Photomatix Pro are important.

One more thing. Some of the Nik Software products are still 32 bit, although the HDR plugin will be 64 bit.
Please note that, according to Nik Software tech support and their staff, all of their Nik plug-ins will be eventually re-coded to accommodate 64-bit architecture. I notice that they recently release some of its Nik plug-ins being 64-bit. I would think the rest would be eventually be released with 64-bit plug-ins.
I have updated some of my Nik Complete Collections, including Viveza 2 (64-bit), Color Eflex Complete Collection (64-bit; recently released this particular one only few days ago), and Silver Eflex Pro being 64-bit as well.
It would be wise to check back with Nik Software website for further details with updated products with 64-bit releases. I also downloaded HDR Pro from Nik Software few days ago, it is pretty nice plug-in.
    Hope this helps.

  • Aperture plugins

    Hello,
where is the Aperture 'plugin' folder?
I want to install a lens correction plugin for my wide angle lenses.
    Thanks

    Thank you for that.
Only problem is that Aperture has nothing following it.
I removed Aperture and reinstalled it but my file tree reads.
    /Library/Application Support/Aperture/    here appears a p list document
    Any ideas?

  • Workflow for Aperture plugins in series.

    Hi there,
I have been looking for an answer to this for a few months, and can't figure it out.
I have a number of Aperture plugins, borderfx, and flickrexport being the two main.
When I have finished working on a photograph, I normally do one of three things:
    1. export it to flickr.com with flickrexport, or
    2. file it in the relevant project or
    3. export it to a jpeg with borderfx for emailing/etc.
I have been trying, but can't see if it is possible to do the following:
    1. use borderfx to put a border around the photograph then
    2. export it to flickr using flickrexport
So, my question: is it possible to run a number of aperture plugins, in a series, to create a workflow, without having to export/import images?
If it requires Automator, I am proficient in creating simple workflows with it.
    Any help is appreciate.
    thanks
    bernard

As those are both export plugins, the only way you are going to be able to run them consecutively is to export using the border plugin, import the resulting images then then export the new files via flickrexport. Unless there's an image adjustment version of the border plugin?

I uploaded the images from the card to my Pro (Aperture 3) and while the import info said 1500 images were uploaded, I can't find the RAW images.  Aperture put about 700 images in an untitled project folder, but all the images are the JPEGs.  What am I missing?

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

  • Error loading file for Pro-53 plugin

    Greetings,
I keep having to tell Logic 8 Pro where the file 'def.p5a' is located everytime I load the Pro-53 plugin.
    Any help?

This is a Pro-53 default patch bank. Either it's not in the right place, or it's an issue with Pro-53 - in either case, this is an NI issue and nothing to do with Logic.

  • Support for Genuine Fractals

I'd like to request that support be made for file formats that aren't necessarily fully supported. For example, I own the genuine fractals plug in for photoshop, and use that format to save ultra-large prints. Unfortunately, none of those will show up in the Lightroom database, so I have no idea if they're actually there, making me resort to Bridge for most file browsing.
I realize that Lightroom can't actually support every proprietary format, but you'd think at the very least it could recognize a file is there, and just leave the image preview blank. It should also allow me to right-click and open the file in Photoshop.

Thanks so much for the reply, Charlie Choc. Yes, I have that. In PS CS3 "On One: was a Menu Item right after "Windows" and "Help". I'd like to have that again.

  • After installing and updating mountain lion PTLense Aperture Plugin lost license

I tried to find a solution and wanted to delete PTlense from the directorie but the systems says I don't have permission??? As much as I understood I can download and install PTLense Aperture Plugin again but before I have to delete any "PTLense-Things" from the library. The problem is, that I can't delete.
I really need PTlense daily. Please help! Thank you

Do a Get Info (command - I) on the plugin and see what the permissions are set to. If necessary, unlock the lock and set your permissions to read/write.

  • Mackbook Pro + Aperture 3 + 1TB drive + Time Machine + Carbonite....work f

    Mackbook Pro + Aperture 3 + 1TB drive + Time Machine + Carbonite....work flow?
I have Carbonite On-Line back up running incremental (wifi to the cloud) backup in the background I just learned that I can nominate folders for it to ignore..
So... to prevent it grinding away needlessly using up resources, I was daydreaming I would import RAW files from my camera into to a "TEMP" folder that I would have Carbonite ignore
I am disciplined at sorting through shots directly after importing them..
Perhaps I can also get Time Machine to ignore that "TEMP" folder too? (Although hard drive storage is less of a worry...
This way I only back up 'keeper shots'?
Am I getting warm? Is this a valid workflow / back up regime?
I hear Aperture 3 has file management functions that are helpful.. But I am not up to speed with what they are...
Carbonite WONT back up attached drives - only the Laptop own drive.. And I want my 'keeper' library shots on two back up systems..
Am I missing a trick? Looking for do's and donts - pitfalls to avoid etc.. I want to set things up the right way from the beginning, I plan to migrate all my RAW operations from iPhoto / Elements set up on a MBAir to a new MBPro running Aperture 3 in about a week.
    Suggestions please..
    Thanks in advance!

During the initial setup for TM, there was one screen that required username wd_backup and password admin. Later I changed the username for the TM folder to garyham58 and a personal password. That is the username and password I am looking for.
As I understand it, the original name and password were supplied by WD and stored on the NAS. Any changes would have been stored on the NAS. And resetting it would have to be done via the NAS.
I would think that there is some way to reset TM and start from scratch
I fear you may have already done part of that, inadvertently, since the folder shows no contents.
But it's not a password for the Time Machine application; it's the sharing of the WD disk, which is done by WD. When you back up with Time Machine to a simple external HD, there is no password for the drive. When you back up over a network to a Time Capsule, or a USB drive connected to it, you set up the password, if any, via Airport Utility, and I believe that's stored by the router as well as in the keychain on your Mac.
Do you still have the original 250 GB HD? If so, your best bet may be to get an enclosure for it, from http://www.macsales.com/ or the like. You can put the HD into it and connect it to your Mac via USB or FireWire, and it will become a normal external HD. Then you can start up from it and "clone" the HD to the new one.
Then you might be able to re-establish contact with the WD, and see your backups, unless they got erased during all the problems, or erase it and start over.

I can't find in maverics the library/application support/aperture/plugins folder... someone knows how to install pt lens plug in?

Your user library is hidden by default in Mavericks.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
    Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until "Library" appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library. Then look for the folder "Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins".
Alternately you could install the plug-in for all users in "/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins", in the "Library" folder directly on your sytem drive.

Installed Genuine Fractals 6 into CS5. But I cannot access it in Photoshop. What to do?
I have dragged the plug ins into photoshop but nothing seems to work.
I reinstalled photoshop; reinstalled Genuine Fractals, search every menu option, no mention of Genuine Fractals in Photoshop shows up. It is supposed to be a plug in.
    OnOne suggests either
    1) going to Window, extensions, to find it, or
    2) going to File, Automate to find it
When I do either of these, I still see no access to Genuine Fractals.
    Help!

My extensive testing and side-by-side comparisons between the results achieved by Genuine Fractals and by Photoshop's Bicubic Smoother math in CS4 have left me thoroughly convinced that Photoshop Bicubic Smoother produces superior results.  I would not expect that function to have deteriorated in the least in CS5.
It is true that earlier, before Bicubic Smoother was introduced, Genuine Fractals did provide a genuine advantage.  But those days are gone.
Do your own testing.  I'm confident you'll leave Genuine Fractals behind.
