Genuine iPad web surfing flash question... please be nice!
I have been considering purchasing an iPad and was reading up on all the Flash discussions and wanted to get some clarification.
I understand that iPad doesn't use flash and was trying to see if I would be able to view any websites. I downloaded clicktoflash for Safari on my Air, and turned flash off just to see which websites use flash, and it was every single random website I visited...CNN,FOX,Home Depot,Discover, youtube etc, etc, etc. It seems that every site I visited used flash. Does this mean that these sites will not load fully on the iPad?? It's hard for me to believe that CNN or youtube would not load on iPad.
Can someone please help me out with this?
A lot of people had provided some useful information, but I would disagree with the "all" mobile devices not being able to serve flash. Flash is an important integral part of the internet community and despite what Mr. Jobs had been telling us with HTML 5, there are issues that Flash can deal with easier than HTML 5. Which means that as the mobile tablet devices improve over the next several years, the issues with Flash will not be an issue. The beauty of the iPad excluding flash means that apps are in place to provide a better more specific alternative to the one size fits all scenario we have with Flash. And believe me, there are programmers out there who believe in this cookie cutter one size fits all mentality that Flash is king. But then, it's their bread and butter so to speak.
The iPad can do most web surfing quite well. If you do need to visit flash sites often, I often just VPN tunnel my way back to my Quad Core PC at the office with Splashtop running and access flash sites with sound! The only thing that slows me down is the internet bandwidth, which is not a problem.
Flash is never a problem with my iPad!

Hello,
A flashing question mark appears when I re/start my MacBook Air 2013. Then, I pressed POWER & OPTOIN buttons and internet options appeared for internet recovery. After internet recovery, the OS X utilities appears with four options (Restore from Time machine, Reinstall OS X, Get help online and Disk utility). But none of them seemed helpful. On the last option Disk utility, the icon created only with 33KB and other disk 1 Mac Os X Base system. On First Aid, the icon Repair disk is disabled. So I could not click on repair disk. Could you please suggest me how to solve this problem asap? Thank you so much for your help in advance! You can try the following:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
HELP PLEASE-- flashing question mark on startup, none of remedies working
I'm using my Powerbook one night, everything is working fine. I wake up, go to use it and I get the spinning color wheel; tried to close an application by force quit and I get no response, so I restart using the power button, and the flashing question mark / mac OS icon pops up.
I immediately did some research on what to do; I put the OS cd in, tried restarting holding the C key and later the X key; nothing. Tried resetting PRAM, didn’t solve the problem. Tried holding command-S to check disk/repair, didn’t work. I then held the option key to choose the location to boot off: and neither the HD nor cd showed up: just the circular arrow to re-scan, and the straight arrow to enter the selection.
I have 2 install discs: I'm not sure if they are the same or not; I may have put the wrong one in. So I tried to eject it and now it wont eject.
Firstly, how to eject the cd? I tried holding the eject button, F12, command + . , as well as the trackpad. I don’t see a place to put a pin or paperclip in like some cd drives have to force it open.
Secondly, what else can I try to get my computer working? I'm no expert, but it sounds like this might be a hardware problem aside from the HD, being that the computer is not recognizing neither HD nor cd. However, the cd I have is a copy of the OS disc I made, and it may or may not be the right install disc, or properly made copy.
How difficult is it to open up Powerbooks and replace the HD? I'd like to have it up and running as soon as possible, but most importantly I hope that my data is still safe. And no, unfortunately I hadn't backed up my data. Please advise.Maybe the copy of that disk is not bootable. Do you have the original or can you get it?
Here's a faq to remove disks.

Flashing question mark folder on macbook pro startup. PLEASE HELP
I have a MacBook Pro which I think is a 2011 version. When I startup the computer it comes up with the flashing question mark folder. I can't start it up via disc as I do not have the disc that came with the mac :( .
Di you try restarting and booting whilst holding down the command and R keys? Or even the command, option and R keys (assuming that you've a 2011 model)?
Some 2011 models came with discs as they shipped with Snow Leopard. Those that shipped with Lion had no discs. If your machine originally shipped with Snow Leopard, you can call Apple, with the serial number of your MBP handy, and order a set of model-specific discs (cost is, I believe, around $25 with taxes and shipping).
Please 'call back' and let us know if you've tried booting either to your Recovery partition or to Internet Recovery.

Ipad 3 supports FLASH/FLEX Apps, web or not
ipad 3 supports FLASH/FLEX Apps, web or not?
Apps, yes. Embedded in a web-page, no.
Specifically, a FLEX application bundled as an iOS app and sold through the App Store or distributed ad hoc using an enterprise license will work just fine.
Embedded FLASH (e.g., in a web-page) requires that the browser have a Flash plug-in. iOS doesn't support browser plug-ins, and Adobe dropped development and support for mobile versions of Flash (iOS and Android) a year ago (and laid off the staff related to it), so there will never be one. For what it's worth, Adobe has made it clear that it's also going to drop support for desktop browser plugins as well in the near future (in part because of the wider array of browsers requiring support, and also because Microsoft is dropping browser plugin support from their Windows 8 Metro browser and from their Windows RT browsers).
Going forward, Adobe presumes everyone will stick with HTML5+JavaScript in browsers and a FLEX will be used for standalone application development. They are already modifying their products to reflect this change. -
PLEASE HELP- flashing question mark in folder
Hi everyone,
last night I was just on my macbook as usual and suddenly it froze, so I turned it off. When i went to turn it back on, all that appeared was a flashing question mark in a folder.
I have tried all the suggestions on this page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042 , but none of them worked because it didn't even recognise/find the harddrive in the disk utility section. I don't have apple care ($419 is a lot of money for a student!) but I only bought the macbook about 6 months ago, so it is still within warranty. What should I do now?
Any help is much much appreciated!
MelissaMelissa,
I just had the same exact problem last night too. I called the apple technical service number and nothing they did helped because the hard drive wasn't found. I even got a fire wire cable and tried to hook my MacBook up to another Mac and tried the target disk mode hoping I could pull off data that I needed, but the other mac couldn't find the disk either. I'm kind of worried about losing some of my data. If you could let me know if you find any solution that would be awesome! I plan on going to the apple store this weekend to get it looked at.

Web module: flash template: no dissolves please?
LR2 web page flash template: Can we remove the dissolve transition and just go pic to pic?
Steve, it is also annoying me, and I looked already in the past for a timer for the transition. To set it to zero. I think there is no chance to do so. But perhaps somebody has an idea.

Flashing question mark on folder at start up...help,please
I powered down after quiting Photoshop CS3 and getting the rainbow beachball. When I powered back on I got a grey screen with a flashing question mark in a folder icon...something I've never seen. Powering off and powering back on doesn't resolve the problem. The opening chime plays, but the flashing folder icon with the question mark reappears. I have a macbook, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 80 GB HD bought 6/06. Any suggestions or advice. Thanks.
Hello,
I too have this exact problem. This morning i went to jiggle the mouse to bring the screen back from sleep but it wouldnt. I did a hard reset, but kept giving me the flashing question mark folder. I inserted x.5 disc into the drive to do a disk repair, but couldn't find the disk. I've assumed that the HDD is dead so have ordered a new one.
I'm really kicking myself today, as I foolishly turned off Time Machine a couple of days ago as i am shuffling media around. I have learnt my lesson.
However i'll put the Macbook's HDD into an enclosure and see if i can bring it back to life/restore my data.
I'll post my results next week
This is a bit suspicious for a couple people in the same month to have the same problem.
FYI, i am running X.5.1, 80gb, 2gb RAM. -
Macbook Air won't startup, flashing question mark
Hello everyone, here's the problem:
Recently (Sep) I've bought a new macbook air (2012, 128gb SSD). After a few months of using it the following problem happened: while surfing on the web, my macbook hang up (I couldn't press anything or do anything, the system wouldn't respond), so I shut it down forcefully (by holding the power button), after this my computer wouldn't boot at all: a flashing questioning mark appeared on the grey screen. I know what it means (I'm an Intel engineer and know quite a bit on the subject), so I thought the SSD was dead. Brought it to the shop a bought it at (M-video, Russia, Nizhni Novgorod). After 21 day (sic!) they gave it back to me working fine and said that when they opened it - it worked OK, they tested it for 5 days with reboots and it was OK. After 1 month of using it after I got it back (today) it happened again: the OSx hang -> force shutdown -> question mark on startup.
Could you please tell what can it be? It's obvious that it's no a hardware problem (in this case it wouldn't happen from time to time but be a permanent defect after the first time it occurred). I tried all the recipes found on the internet (command + alt + P + R; R to get recovery mode - disk utility sees only 1 partition on disk0 of 1.8 GB (I guess it's partition with the base system) and won't let me do anything - all options are grayed out; SHIFT won't let me into safe mode - no idea why; etc.). I also don't have a CD or anything with the mac OS, however even Internet recovery won't help - no targets to install it when it comes to it.
Have tried almost anything and asked almost anyone among my IT-connected friends, but in vain. Thank you in advance for your help! Will appreciate any piece of advice.Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:

Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:

2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the

3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on

4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

4 Simple Flash Questions that Are Stumping Me!
What is the Frame Rate for Web Animations
Q1. I am making an animation which will be played on the web. What is the default frame rate (fps) of Flash CS5? And what is the frame rate of for web?
Q2. My animation needs to be 30 seconds long. So at 15 fps that would mean I need to use 600 frames in Flash?
How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
How to Fade a Graphic
I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. One way to create a movieclip is to copy all the frame of the animation's timeline (select them all, right click the selection, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (Insert -> New Symbol...etc) right click on its only keyframe and chhose Paste Frames. THat will put all the layers and frames you copied into the movieclip The only way to come close to being certain about the timing of you animation is to use code to keep track of the time, something like getTimer().. The frame rate that a file plays at is not a reliable means of dictating the time it takes due to a variety of factors which include the amount of content you are trying to process and performance limits of the user's machine.

IBook G3 flashing question mark/won't boot from disc
I recently bought a used iBook, and I knew that the hard drive was bad. No big deal, just replace the HD and reinstall OS X, right? Not quite. I'm still getting the flashing question mark, and the CD won't boot. I reset the PRAM, etc. Still nothing. Held down alt/option at start up. It recognizes that the OS X disc is there, but still won't boot it. It just shows me a smiling computer with a spinning rainbow CD looking thing in the upper left corner. At this point I'm thinking it might be a failed optical drive, or the ribbon might not be seated properly (Entirely possible, since the retard that owned this before obviously took it apart at least once. Half of the screws are missing). Am I correct in this assumption, or is there something else I should be looking for?
Edit: I have 256MB of RAM, a combo drive, and am using a 10.1.3 disc.
Message was edited by: InVenereVeritasWell, that iMac has a G3 processor and I see it's running OS X, so if you can get the iBook working, that is about what you can expect from it.
There was a later G4 processor (in iBooks and iMacs), and the end of the PowerPC iMacs had a G5 processor in them, but that processor ran too hot for a portable — a main consideration in Apple's decision to switch to Intel processors.
Surfing the web may be a trifle difficult with it, depending somewhat on the speed of your internet connection.
The MacBooks are a phenomenal improvement over the iBooks (even the iBook G4). There's no way around it — the Intel processors are just so much faster. I wince a bit when I hear someone say they're basing a future purchase decision on the performance of such an old model as this. It's simply not an accurate representation of what modern Macs are like.
Comparing Mac OS X 10.2.4 to Mac OS X 10.6.7 is a bit like comparing Windows 98 to Windows 7. -
Serious Question: Please Respond
I have an iphone 4 and a laptop and I am thinking about buying an ipad??? Is it really worth it to have all three?
I do not have an iPhone but I do have an iPod Touch, an iPad and MacBook Pro. The iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch all have similarities. Obviously you can't make a phone call with the iPod or the iPad and you can not take photos or videos with the iPad.
The real beauty of the iPad is the light weight and portable nature of the device. It is similar to a netbook or a laptop but not as powerful as either. I use my iPad every day and it has virtually taken the place of my MacBook for most of my day to day needs. Email, web surfing, games, music, videos, some light word processing, reading, etc, etc,. There is no question that the much larger screen makes it a no brainer for me when choosing between my iPod Touch or the iPad. I can not make a fair comparison to the iPhone since I do not own one. However, that will probably change for me in February when Verizon offers it and I can make the switch.
The battery life is incredible - I tried to get the battery to run down to nothing last night in order to fully charge/calibrate - and after 12 hours of using it and being on, it still had 2% of a charge.
You probably don't need it. I didn't "need it", but I wanted one badly and I do not regret the purchase one bit. All of these tech devices have their pros and cons, good points and bad, but to me, this is the most incredible "all purpose" tech device that I have ever owned. If your iPhone and laptop serve your needs, then I think you know the answer already. Check one out in an Apple Store and see what you think for yourself. If you haven't already done so, I think you will be quite impressed.
Is it worth it to have all three -absolutely for me! -
Really Slow web surfing through ZBF with IOS Content filter
Edited: attached partial output of "sh policy-map type inspect zone-pair urlfilter"
Hey, all
We have a 1921 router with IOS Content filter subscribsion and it is also configured as ZBF running latest IOS v15.1. End-user keep complaining about slow web surfing. I connected to network and tested myself and found intermittent surfing experience.
For example, access to www.ibm.com or www.cnn.com hangs 7 times of 10 attempts and maybe only loads reasonablly quick in 1-2 time of the 3. This also affects the speed of download from websites.
I have the case openned with Cisco TAC and CCIE checked my configure but nothing caught his eyes...
I decide to post the issue here in case we both missed something:

endHi,
I know this is for a different platform but have a look at this link:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2089462
Read through it to get some idea of the similarity, but in particular note the last entry almost a year after the original post.
I too am having trouble with http inspection, if I do layers 3 & 4 inspection there is no issue whatsoever, but as soon as I enable layer 7 inspection then I have intermittent browsing issues.
The easy solution here is to leave it at layers 3 & 4, which doesn't give you the flixibility to do cool things like blocking websites, IM, regex expression matching etc... but in my opinion I just don't think these routers can handle it.
It appears to be a hit and miss affair, and going on the last post from the above link, you might be better off in having the unit replaced under warranty.
The alternative is wasting a lot of time and effort and impacting your users to get something up and running that in the end is so flaky that you have no confidence in the solution and you are then in a situation where ALL future issues users are facing MIGHT be because of this layer 7 inspection bug/hardware issue etc?
I would recommend you use the router as a frontline firewall with inbound/outbound acl's (no inspection), and then invest a few $ in getting an ASA dedicated firewall (but that's just me ) -
Booting Error: Flashing Question Mark
I was working with iWeb today and then it beachballed like crazy... So I force quit but then that beachballed too. So I just forced a shut down. Let it rest. Turned it back on and then it came up in gray screen. Then with the OS 9 smiley logo and the folder with a flashing question mark. I followed all those steps, did the disk utility, it said it found an error with the Tree Nodes so it repaired them fine. Then I tried to restart, still nothing. I tried the Startup Manager, all it found was the CD, no hard drive... I tried PRAM. I tried it all. I am very annoyed and now frustrated that all my work on iWeb and all my files are going to have to go bye bye if I have to do an Erase and Complete REinstall. Does anyone think that my computer can be "Target Mode" mounted on my other comp. and I can drag the important files over? Help!
PS. even tried, lifting the keyboard latches and pressed the reset button.
Nada...To save myself time, I'm going to try to answer both your recent posts in this single post:
1. You wrote: "There are two hard drives on the left column of the Disk Utility... "If we're talking about your PowerBook herre, then I think you are confusing hard drives with volumes on hard drives. Let's clarify that first:
In case you do not understand the difference between hard drives and volumes on hard drives, here's an example illustrating the difference (note that a similar example is shown as a screen shot in my previously cited "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ):
In the column on the left in Disk Utility, you might see something like this:<pre>38.2 GB IBM-DTLA-307045
Macintosh HD</pre>The first line ("38.2 GB..." whatever) is the disk, the actual hard drive itself, aka the device.
The second, indented line (Macintosh HD) would be your Mac OS X startup disk, aka your boot volume.
Volumes — partitions on a disk — appear indented below the disk on which they reside in Disk Utility.
In Disk Utility, you can select either a volume or a hard drive for verification or repair of either the disk or permissions. However, Repair Permissions can only be used on volumes on which Mac OS X is installed. If you select a drive (vs. a volume) and use Repair Disk on such, it will attempt to repair all volumes (partitions) on that drive.
If your LaCie FireWire drive is not connected and what you are seeing is akin to<pre>xx.xx GB FUJITSU...
No Name item you described</pre>Where the "No Name" item is indented and directly below the Fujitsu line, I suspect that No Name line should read "Macintosh HD" and, as a result of either directory corruption or disk damage, not even the name of the volume can be read.
2. Now, as to the specific errors you are citing: the "Invalid B Tree error" will require "stronger medicine" than Disk Utility. See the "Disk Utility cannot repair the disk" section of my — again — previously cited "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ.
3. You wrote: "Will the Archive and Install erase my iWeb files, my iCal files, my TextEdit documents? I need those the most. "If you read my previously-cited "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ, then you would know that — assuming you follow the steps in the FAQ — that none of your personal data would be lost by performing an Archive and Install. I post links to my FAQs presuming you will read them thoroughly.
However, if the Fujitsu hard drive is the only drive in the affected Mac — and if this problem is with your PowerBook you should only have one drive installed inside the computer — then you cannot perform an Archive and Instal at this time as the directory on the drive is corrupted. The "Invalid B Tree" errors must to be fixed before you attempt to perform an Archive and Install on that drive. Furthermore, it is possible that the directory corruption could have damaged some of your personal files, but you won't know that until you repair the directory, if possible.
4. Later you wrote: "I went to the Apple store at the local mall. The "genius" took a look at my Powerbook and told me that my Logic board has malfunctioned and that it would cost me $400 to fix it."That's entirely possible given the errors you described and the fact that the drive could not be seen even in Target Disk mode. You may have a combination of problems, i.e. bad logic board which also lead to the corrupted drive directory. If the logic board problem is intermittent, one pass of the Apple Hardware Test might not catch it. Running the hardware test in Loop Mode overnight, again as stated in my previously-cited "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ is a good way to check for intermittent problems.
I don't regard the price you were quoted as unreasonable for a new logic board, and certainly cheaper than a new Mac. You may be able to shop around for a lower price, but then there's the time vs. money tradeoff in doing so.
I can neither confirm nor deny as to if the advice given at the "Genius Bar" was correct: they were able to examine your computer, whereas I can only provide advise based on what you report.
5. Then you wrote: "is there a way for me to take out my hard drive and put it in a G5 or another computer or ext. HD that way I can transfer all my data? Any suggestions?"Yes. You will probably find instructions for removing the hard drive on the Apple Do-It-Yourself Parts & Service page. You will need to know the specific model of your PB G4 15-Inch Titanium. The AppleCare Knowledge Base document "PowerBook G4 Computers: How to Identify Different Models" can help you identify the specific model of PowerBook G4 you have. Knowing the processor type in your PowerBook would also help.
You'd also need a FireWire enclosure for the type of drive in your PowerBook, again assuming that's the computer in question here (you mentioned a G5). AFAIK, most laptops have 2.5" hard drives vs. the 3.5" drives normally found in desktops: those are the dimensions of the platters within the drive, not the drive itself. Based on what I read here, which I believe would apply to your Mac, you'd probably need a FireWire enclosure for a 2.5" drive such as shown here. You should confirm that before purchasing an enclosure: I don't have a PowerBook.
I've bought both FireWire drives and enclosures from OWC and have always been pleased with their products. Assuming a 2.5-inch enclosure is correct, I'd recommend one of their "On The Go" products.
However, you're still going to be faced with the issue of attempting to repair the directory on the drive, as discussed in point 2 above. If the directory cannot be repaired, then you are going to have to resort to data recovery options, as discussed in my "Data Recovery" FAQ.
Good luck!
Dr. Smoke

Boots to flashing question mark folder and disc utility cannot locate internal hard drive
Bottling my MacBook Pro I end up with a flashing question mark folder. I reboot holding the option key to select discs and there were no options at all. I plug in an Ethernet cable and it shows a internet recovery option. I click and it downloaded a temporary recovery mode. From there I open disc utility but it doesn't find any internal hard drives. I reset the pram and I still get the flashing question mark folder. Thinking it was my internal hard drive that failed I bought and replaced the internal hd with a new one and repeated all the processes and still no internal hard drive was found. I'm stuck with the flashing question mark folder. Therefore I've concluded that it was my MacBook pros internal hard drive CABLE that had failed. Does anyone know of any other possible problems that is causing this for my MacBook Pro or know of any solutions? Or is replacing my internal hd cable the only solution? Please help!
It was the internal HD cable. I replaced it and now my MacBook Pro works
