Geo location / photo uploading

I know they listed the api's that you can use but they are not very clear. If you can save a image to the iphone shouldn't you be able to grab a image for the iphone.
My app I want to be able to upload a photo with the location information to a server / mysql database. Anybody think this will be possible? Or should I just go and learn how to build native apps. Also will other api's like facebook able for use?
Thanks Trav

The list of supported APIs is located in the developer FAQ: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Applications_for_iPhone#Which_native_iPhone_APIs_and_ functionality_are_supported_when_using_Flash_tooling.3F
As for the OP's specific questions: no, you can't get images out of the camera roll. And yes your idea of uploading images with geotagging sounds like a good fit for flash.

  • IPhoto 09 not recognising locations for geo-tagged photos

I've been geotagging my photos in iPhoto for over a year now, using HoudahGeo. This works really well and integrates great with sites such as Flickr that support geo-tagged photos.
When I installed iPhoto 09, it only recognises about 30 photos out of several thousand as geo-tagged. These are mainly photos taken with my iPhone, but also some taken with my Sony camera and geotagged with HoudahGeo.
I've checked a sample of the ones it does not put in a location (all taken with the same Sony camera) and the Exif data is there with the correct latitude and longitude but iPhoto 09 sees these fields as blank when I do a Photos > Shows Extended Photo Info, the latitude and longitude fields are blank.
Anyone any ideas what I am doing wrong / how I get the photos to show on the map in iPhoto 09?

I usually import the photos direct to iPhoto from my camera and then use HoudahGeo to geo-tag the original copies of iPhoto in my library. Prior to iPhoto 9 this is not a big issue as it did not use the geo-tag information directly but with iPhoto 9 it's a big issue for users like me as I'd rather not have to export from the camera to a folder, geo-tag and then import to iPhoto 9 as it's messy to say the least.
As I noted - this will not work - iPhoto is a database and it keeps data about the photo in its database - as all database programs do - and changing the data elsewhere will not update the database
Anytime you apply modifications directly to the data in the iPhoto database you are risking corruption and it is recommended that you not ever modify the contents of the iPhoto library
I use an ATP Photo Finder - http://www.atpinc.com/p2-4a.php?sn=00000414 - which applies the Geocodeing data directly to my photos so when I import them they are complete - it simplifies my work flow a lot
Surely Apple will have thought of users like me who geo-tag using a GPS external to the camera and provided some easy method of re-reading the Exif data in the photos in real time?

  • Locating Photos and Location of Photos

How can I find where my original photos are located?
How can I choose where I want my photos located when uploaded from camera to computer? Must photos be uploaded to iPhoto?
Is "My Pictures" folder in "Go" menu separate from iPhoto?
My camera software uploads my photos to its own folder in "Applications". Can I, and if so how, move them to a folder I want them stored in under "My Pictures" so that I can access them directly?
    Thanks for your help.

My camera software uploads my photos to its own folder in "Applications"
Isn't that the answer to your first question?
No, photos don't have uploaded into iPhoto. You can use any software you like, and you can put the pics anywhere you like.
The Pictures folder is different from iPhoto. The iPhoto Library Folder is in the Pictures folder.
Some pointers if you're thinking of using iPhoto:
    1. You can set it to become launch when you connect your camera. You do this by going to Image Capture in your applications folder. In the Preferences to that app you can nominate what happens when you connect a camera. This can then bypass your camera software altogether.
    2. iPhoto is not an image viewer, as you've been using on Windows. It's a Photo Organiser: that is a database, with a built-in image viewer, entry level editing and excellent slide show, and other facilities. With iPhoto you import your pics, and then in the iPhoto Window you organise them - into albums, smart albums, calendars, books etc. Everything you need to do with your pics can be done via the iPhoto Window.
If you just want to put your photos into the pictures folder, then simply drag them from wherever your camera software has put them and drop them into the Pictures folder.
I hope you find this helpful, and if you require more info, then post again.

  • Where is the GEO location info?

I cannot seem to find where the geo location info is located on a pic. It is not showing up under picture information in iPhoto, or on the iPhone. Any help?
    Thanks

Yes, it's in the photo info. On a Mac, you can see it by selecting the photo, then hitting command-I (or right clicking and selecting "Show Photo Info." There are two fields near the bottom for "GPS Latitude" and "GPS Longitude."
Note that this also works on the first gen iPhone -- when I launched the camera, it asked whether Camera could use my current location info, then it tagged the photo I took.
However, I don't know yet how to use this data -- as a previous poster said, Flickr doesn't seem to know where that picture came from. When I view the photo in Flickr, the EXIF info still contains fields named "Latitude" and "Longitude" with the same data as shown in iPhoto, but Flickr can't put the photo in the right place on the map.

  • Photo upload to iphoto failing

I have always been able to upload my pictures to iphoto until my last attempt. I watched the photos upload, but at the end of the run the message read, "iphoto has quit unexpectantly". Even though I watched them upload on the screen when I opened iphoto the pictures were not there?!?!! HELP!!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It would help if you can verify the version of iPhoto that you are using, because different versions use a different library structure. If you aren't sure, Quit iPhoto. In the Finder, locate iPhoto in your Applications folder. Click +only once+ to select it, then do File > Get Info. In the window that opens, you should see the version number near the top.
You can also find out which version of Tiger you are running. Click on the Apple menu at the top left corner of your screen, select "About this Mac" and a window opens with the Mac OS number.
When you launch iPhoto, is there a new Album listed in the left column that says "Recovered Photos"?
If not, you can check the iPhoto Library folder for those photos. Quit iPhoto. In the Finder, navigate to your Pictures folder, then the iPhoto Library folder inside it. Look just inside the iPhoto Library folder. If there is a folder called "Import" or "Importing" you can drag it out to your Desktop. *Make no other changes* inside the library folder, or you could damage your iPhoto Library. Check inside the Import folder and see if your new photos are there. If they are, launch iPhoto and import the photos.
    Regards.

  • How can I locate photos in PSE6 now that Bridge Home is discontinued?

How can I locate photos in PSE6 now that Bridge Home is discontinued?  When dragging a photo from my Desktop to the PSE6 symbol in my Dock, PSE6 informs: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file". Thus I am compelled to open this file with hundreds of photos on my Desktop, and here it's imposssible to find it because the thumbnails are so tiny.  Therefore much time is wasted in having to open them all one at a time in PSE6.  I did not have this problem with my Photoshop 7.

    Barbara,
Your persistence in trying to find a solution has turned out beneficial!                                                                                                                                     It was in 2009, shortly after receiving my PSE6, that it informed me of Bridge Home now being discontinued.  So that was what compelled me into the tedious procedure described in my original thread.  Now, after having read your comment, I gave it a different try - I dragged a file with photos to the "BR". symbol in Dock, and to my surprise legible thumbnails opened in Bridge CS3 .
The message saying that Bridge Home has been discontinued is no longer there, so my thought is that PS must have added to the program in the meantime.
    Thanks for your help.

Approx 4 minutes 25 seconds into this YouTube Adobe ELearning video for Common JavaScript Interface in Adobe Captivate 8, the topic of extracting data from a live web site http://api.openweathermap.org
Is there anywhere we can download this Adobe Captivate weather ticker project? or get some more complete tutorial on setting it up?  I tried to copy some of the code shown in the video, but can't get it to work, so I suspect I'm missing something somewhere.
I would like to try it out.

Could windows Firewall be stopping this geo-location weather ticker app from working? When I start Captivate 8, I get the message indicating the the firewall is blocking some features of the program. When I check the geo var it seems empty.
    Name: AdobeCaptivateWS
It then refers to some temp folder such as

    Hi,
Please also double check the size of the photograph in AD, make sure the size not overtake 48 pixels by 48 pixels, as it has a serious limitation on the size and resolution of the photos: the thumbnailPhoto attribute can only hold a photograph with
a maximum size of 48 pixels by 48 pixels.
