Geofence locations in "Reminders" don't match address book

If I go into "Reminders" and try set a location-based reminder for Home or Work, the addresses listed aren't the same as the ones in my address book. They're within a mile of me, but never close enough that I reliably enter that location when I'm at home or at work. The post code shown in Reminders is just the first four characters of the post code listed in my address book, and the addresses it gives me do lie within that postcode region.

Sorry all,  re my question above,  since reading a response, from Winston Churchill, to another question I realise that I have two address lists on my iPhone (iCloud and On My Mac). They match each other and (MacBook)Address Book  but don't match the Mail Contacts.  Thanks, M

  • Location based reminders don't work in ios7 ?

after upgrading to ios7 on my iphone 4s the location based reminders don't work if the reminder-app is not open in multitasking.
on ios6 the location based reminders work fine even if the reminders-app is not open and not in background.
is this a bug? the background update option for reminders is activated in the options.
    any ideas?

In iOS7, location-based reminders won't fire if the Reminders app is explicitly terminated by the user.
That is if the user removes an application from the Multi-Tasking application list (brought up with a double-press of the Home button), iOS 7 will conclude that the user doesn't want this app to get any more run-time. That implies that Reminders won't be launched again to display your location-based reminders.
The Reminders app needs to be running in the foreground or to be put in the background for location-based reminders to work.
This is not a bug. This is intended behavior.

  • Location based reminders don't work

I have tried to use Siri to take an instruction such as ' remind me when I get to 'a location'  but I get the ' I can only remind you when I have a time'.
I have done the following :
    Go to the place
Open G maps and select the arrow to mark the location
Click on the arrow and add / edit contacts with the location details.
    However, it doesn't work.
Is there some 'trick' to make Siri understand how to understand the location after you've saved it to contacts ?
'Remind me to do something when I leave here' works fine but 'Remind me to do something when I arrive somewhere' does not.
It's like Siri doesn't know the location even after it's been saved to contacts using the G maps app.

I am partly wrong in that the iPhone 4 also supports location based reminders, but I am correct that the 3GS does not. It was supported in the initial beta builds of iOS 5 while it was going out to developers, but there were a lot of bugs with it due to some hardware limitations that prevented accurate GPS fence locations to be processed. The final build of iOS 5 does not offer support for the 3GS. I'm not just making that up. The official user guide that Apple supplies indicates it on page 95. Here's a link.

  • Location based reminders don't trigger when screen is locked

I've tried using location based reminders a handful of times since installing iOS 5.  The one thing I've noticed about them (other than the battery drain), is that they don't work when the phone is in standby (i.e. screen is off).   Unlike time based reminders which will sound even when the phone is in standby.  Location based reminders will only remind you after you unlock the screen.
Here's an example based on a reminder I set today:
    1. I set a reminder to remind me to vote when I left my house.
    2. I left my house and drove about a 1/2 mile, all the while looking at my phone to see if the reminder triggered.
    3. Eventually I decided to press the home button and unlock the screen.  The moment I did so the reminder popped up.
Basically if I hadn't "remembered" about the reminder and unlocked the screen, I wouldn't get reminded until the next time I used my iPhone which could have been hours later.  I'd think considering the battery drain and constant use of GPS that it should remind me shortly after leaving my house.
Is this the way reminders are supposed to work?

  • Email sender not matching address book

I have just noticed a change in my ipad 4th generation and iphone 5 running ios6.1. I uses to have have the email sender appear as entered in my address book for notificationson my home screen, inbox list, sent items and so forth. Also after openning the email it matches in the from section at the top. Now something has changed. The sender now only matches when i open the email in the from section at the top. But now notifications on my lock screen and in my innbox list show a different name that the sender used to sign up for their email. The sender is my mom. My dad set up her email using his name. For months it has been matching just fine but now why the change? It is strange because now the label mom only shows in the sent item list but not in the inbox list Now when i receive an email from my mom in notifications and inbox list it shows my dads name and only when i open the email does the from box change to mom. I have my mom listed as family in my contact card. I have the nickname added as mom and as well as only mom in the first name field. I don't know what has changed in my devices to make this happen. Strangly enough i have an old iphone 4s running ios7 and it still works with no problem. It lists mom in all areas. Inbox list, sent items list, notifications on lockscreen and so on. Because my ipad and iphone 5 are still under warranty i called apple and was told to reset all settings but that has not solved my problem. Anyone know how to fix this. Other threads with this issue offer no help but i believe were not communicated properly to the support members so I thought i would try.

There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
    1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your Country Code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
    * In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your loca area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
    2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
    * For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
    3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO.
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.

  • Mail app. and Webmail .Mac don't sync Address Book properly

How does one go about making these 3 things Sync with each other correctly?
    What I mean is this:
I have a lot of contacts with emails and such in my Address Book. I can access those with the Mail app. and I can send emails and keep on adding more info.
I use my .Mac account to supposedly sync and backup everything - so that when I happen to be away from my computer or if I want to surf it by webmail in to my account, I can -
however, when I access the address book inside my account in webmail, it's all jumbled up. A lot of the contacts have 2 copies of each, and then all the email addresses that I have been saving when I get new emails from new people within webmail it saves as a completely new contact.
This is getting tedious. Is there any way to make all these sync a little more coherently?
    Thank you for your suggestions.

Sorry all,  re my question above,  since reading a response, from Winston Churchill, to another question I realise that I have two address lists on my iPhone (iCloud and On My Mac). They match each other and (MacBook)Address Book  but don't match the Mail Contacts.  Thanks, M

  • How do you specify printer start location on a label sheet in Address Book (LION)?

I have no problem with printing address labels to my correspondents in Address Book, but cannot find the spot to tell the program to start with a specific label location on the label sheet.  It is a complete waste to print one address in the upper left of the label sheet and not to be able to tell the printer to start with row 2 col 1 the next time.

I've found no way to do this from address book. Printing labels from address book is just simple list style printing ** fill the sheet with names and print. I see no way to insert blank information like I use to do in Clairworks in order to skip rows and columns. If you need to repeat names or print only certain columns and rows, then you would need to do that from another program. I have no recomendations since I haven't used any, but I'm sure there are many out there and probably a lot that are free to download.
What I do is print out full sheets of mailing labels on the ones I used repeatedly, such as my return address, electric bill, water bill, etc. I used appleworks in the past, but now it no longer works under Lion, so I will have to make new sheets, probably from Word.
For all others addresses that are not used frequently, I've resorted to just running my envelopes throught the printer.

  • Since 6.0.1 Location based reminders don't work???

Ever since the upgrade the reminders when you get home/work do not work.
I have a friend with the same phone but the old OS and he doesn't get this problem.   Fix this ****!!!!!
Can I go back to the old OS???

I would say there's a 99.9% chance that your issue is not related to the upgrade.
Check Settings > Privacy > Location Services.  Are Location Services "On"?  Is Reminders "On"?
Do you still have home and work set correctly in Contacts?

  • Export from Outlook 2011 for mac to mac address book

As I'm not in a corporate setting any longer, and i'd like to simplify, moving all outlook files -- contacts, mail, reminders, all that -- to address book and ical. Is there a simple elegant way to do this?

    Hi,
    Thank you for using
Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.
    Base on the research ,
We can try the steps below to add the registry sub key. This will open all .eml files that are in the file system using Outlook, including *.eml attachments on messages in OE/WLM. Any replies will be sent
    using Outlook.
    ===========
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the
registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem
    occurs.
    1.Type
regedit in the Search field on the Start menu or press
Windows Key+ R and enter it in the Run command.
    2.Navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Microsoft Internet Mail Message WLMail\shell\open\command
    Or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open\command
    3. Change the command line (here its "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /eml:%1)
to the following line, exactly as shown below but correcting the path to Outlook.exe to match the path on your computer.
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /eml "%1"
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Auto-generated birthdays [Address Book - iCal] issues with Mac OS X 10.4.4

Substantial changes were made to iCal, the Address Book and to Sync Services with the release of the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Update. Clearly, not all of the results were intended.
The automatically generated Birthdays calendar has presented at least two issues in my configuration:
Just before installing the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Update, the birthdays appeared in iCal as expected but, immediately afterward, none appeared at all. They were still embedded in my Address Book records, and the action of cutting and pasting just one of them in an Address Book record resulted in the immediate propogation of all of them again in iCal. Great. Obviously, there is now a system-level problem with the data interchange between the Address Book and iCal. This phenomena has only surfaced since the application of the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Update.
This evening, I noticed that birthdays were no longer displayed in iCal following a synchronization, though the calendar remained intact . Stranger yet, they had all been removed from the matching Address Book records which generate these entries: every one of them! I believe that a Sync Services issue caused their removal, and it is for that reason alone that they no longer appeared in iCal.
Resetting the contact records alone using .Mac as the source did no good. Not only are they not visible on the .Mac address book pages, birthdays data is also apparently not retrievable. Hmm - passed through, but not stored. Not good.
I was able to revert to a 3-day old, almost identical record set, and all of the 'restored' records with birthdays instantly had a matching iCal entry in the Birthdays calendar.
All I can say is: back up. And, back up often. [I had used the Back up Address Book… option under the File menu, so restoring them was a rapid and painless process.]
I wonder when we will see a maintenance update to Sync Services, the Address Book and iCal?

My wife's mini had a similar issue. She upgraded to 10.4.10 and her sound stopped working. She would also get the login screen freezes. Where her computer is located, turning off Airport is not an option, and the sound issue is very frustrating. I helped her restore her entire computer from a 10.4.9 backup she had made just a couple days before, and while the lockup problems are gone, the headphone jack still will not output sound. Just two pops when you plug the speakers in, and that's it. I've tried resetting the PMU with no luck. I hope Apple fixes whatever it is they screwed up, and soon. I won't be applying 10.4.10 to any of my other machines.

  • Address Book Alert or Notification?

I currently use Entourage's address book as a contact manager and want to switch to Mac Address Book to track my clients. I can't figure out how to have a specific Address Book client alert me to call back on a specific date I specify.
For instance, in Entourage, I use it's address book function and set a "To Do Date" for it to remind me to call this client. How is this done in Mac Address Book?

You don't. Unlike Entourage which has multiple functions - calendar, address book, mail, etc. - in a single application, the applications included with Mac OS X are split. Address Book does only that; keep your address book. If you want to schedule events and to-dos, you use iCal.
iCal's To-Do functionality is a bit limited - for instance, I don't know of any way to attach a contact to a To-Do, only to an event, and the attachment to an event is really designed for meetings - so it may or may not work the way you want it to. But you might ask in the iCal forum; someone there might know of a workaround.
    Hope this helps.

  • Contacts per iMac address book:  1,301  iCloud:  1,486 iPhone 4s: 1,508 iPhone 4: 1,489 How can I make them all the same?

My address book has been an intense problem for me for a while (i.e. even pre-iPhone 4s/iCloud).  Before I upgraded, my iPhone 4 had thousands of duplicate contacts.  The address book was up to ~7,500 even though what was then Mobile Me had somewhere in the 1,000 to 1,500 range for contacts.  So after I upgraded, I attempted to fix it by doing the following:
I connected my iPhone 4S to the iMac (after I set it up with the latest iPhone 4 backup), went to the iTunes info tab for my device and unchecked syncing for any address book contacts, calendars, email accounts.  And then I synced it.  This didn't work.  I believe my contacts were still at ~7,500.
So next I tried checking just the Sync Address Book Contacts option on the info tab which then allowed me to check contacts under the Advanced/Replace Information on this iPhone section at the bottom of the info tab.  This made my iPhone contact list further balloon up to 13,000 + contacts.
So the next thing I did (still in the info tab) was to select Selected Groups under the "Sync Address Book Contacts" section of the info tab.  I believe I still had the option to replace the info on my iPhone selected.  I then selected one of my contact groups that had no contacts in it.  Why would I create a contact group with no contacts in it?  I didn't.  I created some smart groups and prior to my iPhone 4s upgrade I noticed the smart groups contact lists I spent some time setting up were not populated with anything.  Same with some of the non-smart group contact lists I had created.
After telling it to only sync that empty group and to replace the contents on my iPhone I ended up with 1,508 contacts.  Why I didn't end up with either zero or the same number as in iCloud is beyond me.  This at least seems closer to my true number of contacts but as mentioned in my subject above the number of contacts differ between all three places (iPhone 4s, iCloud and iMac address book).  I also noticed that my wife is no longer in my iPhone 4S or in iCloud as a contact but she is listed in the iMac contacts which has fewer contacts than the other two places.
So I believe that in all three locations, there are situations where the address book includes contacts not in the other two locations, and vice versa (excludes contacts that are in the other locations).  Can somebody help me understand how I can truly sync my contacts so that they are identical in all locations?  This has been a huge problem for me since the Mobile Me roll out and sadly continues to persist now that I've migrated to iCloud.
Blah, I am so fed up with this persistent issue.

I assume you never got a solution. My own painful story is here:

I've given up on Lion/iCloud. I'll try Mountain Lion.

  • Address book no longer opens!

I'm not sure when it happened, if it was after an update or what, because I don't open Address book on my macbook often, but the icon in the dock (and finder) changed from the regular Address book icon to the apple script icon. When I try to open it, it bounces a couple of times and then nothing. I did a sync and if I go into widgets, all of my contacts are there, but I can't open the program itself!? Any way to just install a clean version of the Address book?

    Welcome to the discussions, aburn06.
From your installation disk Address Book is one of the selectable items in the optional installs. After installation download and apply 10.5.2 Combo Update.

  • Address book adding multiple entries

My address book has been having problems recently. It seems to randomly double add duplicate groups. I'll start with a single group "mycontacts" for example. Then I will come back after a while and have multiple "mycontacts" groups.
I have no idea what might be causing this. Anyone else seeing this kind of behavior?

    Hi,
I have the same problem... and more. I can't erase these ghost contacts (unnamed or duplicated). So, even if I can import contacts back from Time Machine (thanks I done that), my Address Book is still a mess. And more... I have three different sessions on my Mac. The contact of one Address Books goes into another without control. I also use MobileMe and had trouble with syncing.
    Can someone help ?

  • How can I get my address book data back?

After upgrading to OS6, my address book has gone from almost a thousand entries to being totally empty.
This is a *very* big deal for me bc I have no address book application on my PC.
I had always assumed that if iTunes were backing up my iPod, that I would be able to restore from those backups, but now I cannot figure out how to tell iTunes to restore from a backup.   I've got a backup... just cannot restore from it.
There's got to be a way.... and I'm probably looking right at it and not seeing it.

It has been a very long time since I used 10.1.5 but Address Book data is not stored in a .plist file.
The Address Book data should be located in an Addresses folder at Home > Library > Addresses.
Locate this folder and with the Address Book application quit, move it back to the proper location.
