Geolocation With Motorola Droid

Hi,
I am trying to use the Geolocation class for capturing GPS events on my phone.  I am using Flash Builder Burrito with the Flex Hero SDK.  I followed the sample code from the flash.sensors.Geolocation Beta help documentation provided by Adobe.
I am testing this using the Motorola Droid, with GPS turned on (not muted), verified on Google Maps it shows my location.  But when i test this code on my device, it reports back that it is always muted?  Has anyone else tested this with a Droid?  I can't get any Geolocation update events as it thinks it is muted, but definitely is not.  Bug??
Thanks!
Pete

Funny how when you take the time to post your issue on a forum, you magically solve it right after you post.
In this case, there was an entire section of the *-app.xml file that was commented out.  It was the very las <android> tag in the document.  I guess this gives android permissions to use GPS - not sure, but i uncommented that section and it all worked.
If anyone else is struggling with Geolocation, just let me kow - i got it all working like a charm now!
Thanks,
Pete

  • Anyone else having problems with Motorola Droid?

Hi I have the crappy motorola droid that freezes and forcecloses everything possible. Takes forever to start up and randomly shuts itself off. Anyone else have this problem? I've only had it maybe 6 months and have done nothing to it to cause these issues. My husband has the Droid 2 which is even worse! When I went into a Verizon store I was told that it is because they released it on the whim not realizing it would have all these issues and the only thing I can do is to upgrade to a better more recent phone? I'm confused as to a. why do I have to buy a new phone just because they released a crappy phone? and b. The upgrade is $300+ for a "more suitable/reliable" phone (obviously with signing a new 2 yr contract). Also I want to make sure I am not the only one paying $220 for 2 lines with 1400 minutes? (includes the $29.99 fee for both lines & also $6.99 for insurance).... Does this sound right?
    Thanks!

    Hello!
First, I am going to refrain from two very popular forum habits:
    1. complaining about my phone
(it is an incredible piece of technology with some very specific issues, looking for answers, please :~)
    2. bashing my carrier (it's pointless - I am asking for help here; don't want to bite the hand that feeds me)
    That said:
I live in Berlin, Germany / my D2G is an unlocked, US model from VZW
My carrier here is O2, a giant German carrier, comparable with VZW
(iphone users are usually  O2 customers here, for example)
My family plan in the US still lists my US number; I can go home to NY, switch sim cards back to the VZW network at the airport and use my phone on VZW right away. This costs my family only $10 a month, and adds another incentive to visiting home at a totally great price.
I pay 30 € per month for my own contract here with O2, including flat-rate calling and a great data plan. Sending SMS costs 7 - 13 cents apiece. Again, very satisfied with the ability to use this phone globally as the name implies.
    My issue:
Since updating to Gingerbread IN GERMANY back in November or so, my D2G started going berzerk, with many of the same issues described in the  post from mmendoza about his fiancee's D2G in this thread:
"sometimes it looks like a ghost is playing with it"
    - not just sometimes, about 80-90% of the time! When using any/all apps or built in features, the picture onscreen will shiver and shake back and forth like I am holding my finger on the screen and wildly wiggling it about.... condensation on the screen? Oils from hands or face? with or w/o screen protector,  issue remains the same - ghost party in my phone.
"it makes calls on its own, texts people, opens apps"
-related to the above issue, I think; random URLs will be googled! Emails selected in Gmail and archived/deleted at will by the phone as I watch, dumbfounded! Behold: the amazing Self-Sufficient Smart-Phone! It's ALIVE!! aaaarghhhh!
"a black screen that said something like Boot Loader, some numbers, Battery OK and something else,
    Connect to USB to download"
-have also seen this screen once before; I thought it was the phone giving up the ghost, fortunately it came back to life, unfortunately just as quirky and un-usable as before.... you can imagine how frustrated this makes one, so I will spare you the details of my own emotional distress and get to the point:
Also: keyboard on the touchscreen - the letter a won't work: each time, 'sa' comes out, when I mean to type 'a' - weird.
Many things I've tried - factory reset, you ask? yes, and *please* don't ask that one again, if possible! Issue remained the same after a brief period (maybe 3 hours) of normal functioning - ghost is back in the kitchen for good.
Battery has been in and out of my phone more times to count -to no avail- as above, issues always return in short order.
Wiping the screen clean to remove any residues? - also doesn't help matters, just makes me look like a frustrated and OCD-about my smart-phone hipster in the subway and other public places where I like to, you know, use my phone's bazillion features, sometimes.
So Motorola's take on the issue: bc this has all been happening with the phone SINCE UPDATING TO GINGERBREAD IN GERMANY -  'the "German" Gingerbread update is of course the update for the "German" model of the D2G, therefore the wrong one for your phone, young grasshopper. Please send your phone back to your family in the states, we will send them a shipping label, they will send the phone to us, we will flash the drive, and update you to Gingerbread here, send the phone back to your family, who will then send it back to you and your problems will be solved, but please, act fast before your warranty runs out on March 21st, 2012.'
Ok, so that is plausible, kind of ~ I buy a phone to use in the meantime, for 15 €, to make calls only.... emotionally preparing myself for this long period without my awesome phone... and I take the sim card out of my D2G, and put it in the interim cell phone.... and the D2G has a rest for a couple of days.
Then, before sending it off, one last try with the German sim card in the D2G - like magic all of the symptoms are gone, and the phone has returned to full, unproblematic functionality. Which is great, but does nothing to explain the hardship of the last 3 months... I don't know... that was this morning, tomorrow is another day, maybe the ghosts will return.
My question for VZW: you guys know that several people have had this issue with the D2G - the forums don't lie, guys... I am wondering if it can really be attributed to the software update 'intended for the German model of Motorola's D2G. People in the States have had this issue as well. Should I send it to motorola as instructed and let them fumble with it before my warranty expires next month? Is there another fix?
I know I can just flash the drive, download and install the appropriate Gingerbread update to my phone MYSELF with a USB cable and a computer connected to the world wide web. So what is the point of giving it to Motorola to perform such a simple fix? If they are aware of this issue with their D2G phone, as I am sure they must be, have they owned up to it with other users of the D2G who are VZW customers? What is my best chance at solving the riddle of these issues in the coming weeks? help? please... bitteschön?

  • Fitted Case for Motorola Droid 3 with a Wireless Inductive Backing?

Hello!  I'm not sure if this question's been asked, but I just bought the wireless inductive cover for my Motorola Droid to charge wirelessly and find that the cover is ever-so-slightly thicker than the normal backing.  This obviously makes my silicone cover fit incorrectly and I was wondering if anyone knew if there are fitted covers for Motorola Droid 3 with the inductive cover?  If so, please direct me to the correct page, and I will purchase one immediately!  Thank you!

    Hi NiteTide,
I have checked out some references for the wireless inductive cover for charging. It is true that this does make the phone a little thicker, so the silicone cases made for the device may not fit as well. This is also true for extended batteries and their covers.
If using an extended battery or a wireless inductive cover, I would recommend a holster or a pouch as a case for the phone. They will fit much better and it will take just as much time to remove it from the case as it would to remove it from the pouch. In addition, the pouch or holster provides the phone with more protection than the silicone case.

  • Problem with my Droid 2

    Hi,
I've been having trouble with my Droid 2 ever since getting it in November.  It periodically just shuts off for no apparant reason...tonight my dad called me on it and when i went to answer my phone, it just shut off.  It does that fairly often and then I always have a hard time getting it to turn back on.  Does anyone else have this problem?  It's like I have to hold down the power button for a really, really long time before I can get the phone to turn back on.  My husband also has a Droid 2 and he has the same problem.  I really like the phone, it's just a real pain to deal with sometimes.  Wishing I could swap it out for an Iphone or something.

If your experiencing issues with your phone powering off randomly, I recommend performing a soft reset on the phone and also checking to ensure the software is correct. The most current software system version for the Motorola Droid 2 is
Applications > Settings > About phone
If you need to update your phone software, you can use the steps below and you can also use the steps below to check for future updates.
    Checking for system updates
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
    Touch Settings.
    Touch About phone.
    Touch System updates.
If an update is available, touch Download.
If prompted Your device is up to date! No update necessary, touch OK.
    Allow the download to complete.
To monitor the download, touch Menu > Notifications from the home screen.
If your issue persist, please call our technical support team from an alternate phone at 1-800-922-0204 for trouble shooting.
    Thank you

  • Can't download apps to my Motorola Droid Maxx

Motorola Droid Maxx, Android version 4.4.
I've never been able to download apps to this phone. I go to the
Google Play Store and go through the process of downloading apps, and after
clicking Install, I get a message stating "Congratulations
<app_name> will be installed on your device soon." Then I click the
OK button, but the apps NEVER install. In fact, when I go to Settings ->
Apps and view the Downloaded tab, it displays this message: "No apps
downloaded yet." I've tried to download several apps in the 9 months that I've
owned this phone, and this is always what happens.
My Google account is setup on this phone, and I'm receiving gmail via the gmail app on this phone.
I've removed and reinstalled the SIM card, and cycled the power on the phone,
but nothing changes. What am I missing?
    Jeff

try to do it from a pc. go to the play store on a web browser and sign in with your google account. select an app and then choose install. if you're signed in there and your phone is signed in with the same google account, then it should bring up permissions and show you where you select which device to install it too. if it works, you'll at least know that the issue isn't with your google account and you'll have a temporary fix and way to get apps. if it doesn't work or your phone doesn't show up as a device to install to, then i suspect the issue is with your google account. if it works, it will show up on your phone immediately.

  • PSE 6.0 will not import JPG's, or .3gp videos, from Motorola Droid

    I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit.
I've tried a number of ways to import pictures (jpg's) from my Motorola Droid:
    1)  Bu using a USB cable connection to the phone.
    2)  By taking the microSD card out of phone and inserting it into a card reader.
    3)  By copying the pics from the microSD card to a folder on the hard drive.
I've tried "from files or folders", and "from camera or card reader".
Each time, PSE, after scanning the card/folder and looking like it is importing the pics just fine, says:  "Nothing was imported, the file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this catalog."
As I scroll thru the PSE dialog box of the list pics not imported, it says "THE FILE COULD NOT BE COPIED", for the .3gp videos, it says the same thing.
The file names are of the format:
    2010-1-11 12.53.28.jpg
That's the date, followed by a space, followed by the time.
Any ideas?  Is the file name too long or have characters PSE cannot handle?
    Thanks...

I'd ignore Elements, and just drag these jpgs and the video onto the desktop.  Then I'd try to rename one of the jpgs, open Elements, tell it to open that jpg, and see what happens.
I don't expect that to cure your problem, but it's worth a try.  There was a time - 20 years ago - when some applications would refuse to open a document if the name contained forbidden characters.  I haven't heard of that happening in many years, and I'd be stunned if Elements were doing something that dumb in 2010.  If Elements were doing that, this forum would be flooded by other Droid users who are asking the same question.
It's also possible that the problem is not with Elements, but with your particular cell phone.  Elements thinks that these jpgs and video are corrupted.  Maybe they are.  I'd suggest that you reset the Droid, take another picture, and see if Elements "likes" (technical term) the new picture.
You also could narrow down the problem area by opening a picture with another application.  I live in the Mac world, so I don't know what basic applications Microsoft gives you that could open a jpg.  In the Mac World, I'd recommend you try to open one of these jpgs with Preview, or Word or Excel or Powerpoint or Pages, or Numbers, or Keynote.
I'm hoping that one of these applications will refuse to open the jpg, and state that the jpg is corrupted.  That would tell us that Elements is right, and allow us to focus our attention on the Droid phone.
Do you have a digital camera?  Take a picture, and connect your camera to your computer, and see if Elements will read that picture - or also declare that this picture is of an unsupported format.
Hang in there!  Sometimes it can take a while to track down these problems.

  • Motorola Droid doesn't copy and paste from email?!

Is it really true the Motorola Droid will not copy and paste from an email? My business sends me emails with information that I need to enter in the NOTE section of my phone CONTACTS and obviously a copy and paste option is the way to do that. I use three different email accounts on my Droid two of which are Outlook Webmail. Tell me there is a way or why would I have a smart phone if it can't perform the most basic computer functions? I've been online with other forums and the consensus is that the Motorola Droid doesn't. My friend has an HTC smart phone that copies and pastes from emails. Thanks for any help and I have tried holding down the SHIFT key and that does not allow me to copy precisely what I need.

The only way to do this is to download K9 mail from the market (free). To copy paste in email you need you forward the mail, don’t send and then you can copy text. I know, it’s a kludge but that is where you are, and one of many reasons Android is not fit or the enterprise. It’s a work in progress. Sorry

  • Changing font size for motorola droid's emails

Hi, is there a way of changing the font size with the motorola droid, when working with emails? The emails font seem a bit small. a Little hard to read. I'd like the font to be larger.
    Thanks.

I tried Spare Parts, because I have the same problem with the font size on email - way too small for these 50-year old eyes.  It does not work on email.  In fact it says in the Spare Parts menu under Font size "this only works within this screen."  I'm using an LG Ally, BTW.
Any other ideas for increasing font size for emails?

I hate my Motorola Droid Razr! After 3 years it has turned out to be a real crappy cell phone. Does not belong in the "smartphone" category. Forever freezes up, doesn't respond to anything I ask it to do. I am purchasing another brand of smartphone and will NEVER go back to Motorola again. I have tried many help/support tutorials and solutions and nothing works.I HATE THIS PHONE!!!

If you've had the phone for 3 years, then it's time for something new. The Motorola phones I've had have been pretty solid, but if you want to switch brands or even providers, then go for it.
Technology changes so quickly that a 3 year old phone, regardless of manufacturer, is likely to seem slow, buggy, laggy - simply because it doesn't have the power to match the network capabilities NOW.  If it's only capable of 3G speeds, it will be slow compared to a phone with 4G capability.  After three years of use, the internal memory may be maxed out, especially if you haven't cleared stuff out, wiped the cache, etc, causing freezing and non-responsiveness.  It may not have enough RAM to effectively run updated apps....
I would say you are due for a new phone - so compare the newest models, go to a store and try them out, and then get whatever brand and model will work best for you.

  • Amazon rejected app... Failed to load on Motorola Droid

    HELP!
We submitted an app to Amazon for use on the Kindle Fire. We were able to sideload our test version, it installed and downloaded the issue and everything worked great. So we submitted the APK to Amazon and it was rejected. They said this:
Device Tested: Motorola Droid (2.3.4) Issue:Magazine is fails to download. steps to reproduce: 1.Launch the application. 2.Tap on the Download button. 3.Wait for some time and observe that magazine fails to download.
Why would it work on our Kindle Fire and download just fine and not download for them? Also, why did Amazon not use a Kindle Fire to test? We were looking to have a 7-13-2012 launch date on Amazon and now I fear this is in jeopardy. Were we supposed to submit the app to Amazon in a specific way for strictly targeting the Kindle Fire?
    Thanks so much!

  • Motorola Droid X or HTC Droid Incredible or Samsung Fascinate or Wait?

    Hey Guys,
Im currently an At&t customer and I absolutely hate my service. I went with it for the At&t Unity Family Plans and Rollover, but have since found it sucks. I currently use a Blackjack II. Anyways, my contract just ended and Im looking at buying a new phone soon. I am only considering Verizon due to the reputed network reliability.
At this point I have several options in front of me, and I want you guys opinions on what you think is a good phone for me? I generally consume a few GB of data per month, send 2500 texts or so, and talk a little as well. My primary uses are gaming, multimedia, texting, and web browsing. Size isn't an issue, however I do a LOT of multitasking.
Please tell me which of the following is the best phone for me in your opinion?
    Motorola Droid X
    HTC Droid Incredible
    Samsung Fascinate
In addition, after doing so, do you think its worth it to buy now? Or should I wait a few more months and get the rumoured LTE phones or iPhone thats coming to Verizon in late 2010/early 2011.

I want to point out it is not my intention to ruffle any feathers. I used to considered myself a loyal Verizon customer, but maybe after nine years with any carrier you have seen too much of the true nature of the way they conduct business. In Verizon's case it is my opinion in the last three years particularly they have gone over the line in terms of unfair restrictions and misleading terms and pricing. This has been born out in succesful lawsuits ( http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/10/ny_verizon.html )
( http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=10975100 ) there are more, but you get the idea.
Wicked One regarding Sprint and Verizon Upgrades, I am not sure about that but here is what I understand:
First Off ETF for Sprint is $200 for Verizon it's $350
"Verizon Wireless came under FCC scrutiny in early December after it doubled its ETF for netbooks, smartphones and some feature phones. No official action has been taken on the matter."

    http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Government-IT/Following-ATandT-Verizon-ETF-Hikes-Sen-Klobuchar-Pushes-FCC-769924/
    RE: Phone Upgrades
As far as I know Verizon does not offer anything at one year, whereas Sprint does. The catch is what the new phone you are buying will cost you at one year into your two year contract. With Verizon my understanding is at 1 year into your 2 year contract, you pay a $20 upgrade fee and then you can get the new phone you want at a 1 year contract price. So if you were upgrading to a Droid Incredible today under these circumstances you would pay $20 + $269 ($369 - $100 rebate) or $280. With Sprint in the case of the EVO or any other plan where you pay more than $65 month you get the two year price after one year so you would be paying $200.
I wish I could say Verizon is the best, but I have found them to be more focused on pinching money out of our pockets, via weazle marketing gimicks, like "Unlimited" plans that are NOT unlimited, or convincing you that you get more when you actually get less or get a paragraph of restrictions in the small print. Verizon has the best coverage, but that does not balance out any more with me. Most of the time, except when I am traveling in rural areas, I think the other cariers will offer similiar service. I am very close to conducting a personal 30 day test.

hello Lawrence1559, firefox does save all your bookmarks, settings and customizations into the so called [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data|profile folder]] .
<br>you can copy the whole profile folder on your win xp computer like this:
    * press the windows-key+R and open: ''%appdata%\''
    * a windows explorer windows will open up with a folder named ''Mozilla'' in it - right-click and copy that folder and paste it onto a usb drive or any other way you can transfer it to your new computer.
    * on the windows 7 pc, repeat the windows-key+R shortcut and open: ''%appdata%\'' again.
*copy the Mozilla folder from your backup into the %appdata% folder of your new pc.
*you can now download and install firefox from getfirefox.com and should have the exact same setup as on your prior pc afterwards.

  • Unlock Motorola Droid Pro XT610 ?

Good day. I bought Motorola Droid Pro XT610 Verizon on Ebay. I live in Russia. Does anyone know if Verizon will unlock them, as there is no Verizon in Russia.
I can't locate the correct phone number for Verizon, and their online form won't accept out of country email.
Written on the screen: "SIM network unlock PIN". Help me please!

    Hello gnomba,
In order for Verizon Wireless to unlock a SIM you must have an active Verizon Wireless account with the device activated on the account or previously activated on the account.  If you have recently open an account with us the account has to be active for at least 60 days for the SIM to be unlocked.  Let me know if this helps.
