Geometry keeps bouncing -- wont position correctly

This is for an older Apple Studio Display 17" CRT. I had a power outage last night, woke up to find the monitor's picture off to one side. When I tried using the geometry settings in Monitors System Prefs, the buttons to position left and right only go so far (not far enough) then just bounce back. If you click them enough, they bounce way forward sending the image halfway hidden on the other side, and then wont let you position them back the other way before bouncing again.
Essentially, I can't get my screen anywhere near center. Anyone hear of this one?
Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Most probably the obj file is not in the right directory (it must be in the working directory as I have seen from the code).

  • My safari won't open, it just keeps bouncing!

My safari suddenly stopped working, I forced quit it and tried to open it again but no luck. So I restarted my computer and tried again, and again no luck. It keeps bouncing and doesnt even open an error page. My internet is working fine, and my other broswers such as Mozilla arer working fine, but my safari won't work. Help! Is there anything I can do without having to uninstall and reinstall it?! And if I reinstall it will I lose all my bookmarks?! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Just an update to this issue.. after my safari stopped working, my itunes stopped working, and i couldn't open the app store or addressbook (those are just some of the apps i tried, i didnt really try everything but i started to notice that it was happening with all the apps that come preloaded onto a mac) ... I called applecare and they first had me repair my disks using the disk utility but it didnt work. So then he tried to have me restart my computer and run some commands during startup (he was convinced this would work) ... but it didnt. Finally he said try to download safari off of apple's website and replace my current version ... this didnt work either! The installer just wouldn't open. Out of options, he suggested I reinstall lion on my computer but seeing that this would take a few hours i opted to hold-off for a bit. Earlier today i checked to see if any of the previously mentioned apps were working and they were still giving me the same problems until out of no where everything just went back to normal... so unfortunately i have no idea why this happened or how it got fixed, im just glad everythings okay now =]

  • Pen Tool on New Layer Keeps Bouncing to Original Layer

I'm on a Win 7 machine using Illustrator CC, using a mouse with the pen tool.
I created some shapes on one layer, and now want totrace just the outside of those shapes on a different layer. It worked well enough on the first two shapes I did this with (both comprised of ellipses layered to create a particular shape) but on this third one, it keeps bouncing me back to the original layer. This is the only shape that includes straight lines but I can't think of a reason that would keep me from being able to trace the outline of shapes on a different layer. Any idea of what I might be doing wrong?

I recreated the file this morning so that you could see. I was kind of hoping I wouldn't be able to reproduce the problem either, but it's still happening. I don't see a way to attach the .ai so I'm including a screen shot, but will happily attach the file if someone tells me how. The screen shot doesn't seem as if it would be of much assistance.
I made the shapes on a single layer (named "Shapes) in red. I then created 3 layers, one for each outline. I outline them using the pen tool and black. The plan is to delete the "Shapes" layer when I'm done since the red shapes are only there to make tracing the heads easy.
The top image was traced with the pen tool on the layer "Outline 1." I didn't trace the middle one this time but if I had, there would be black tracing around the outside of it on "Outline 2". I began the tracing with the pen tool for the bottom image on "Outline 3" but as soon as I continue the line from the circle to the straight line, I'm immediately shifted to the "Shapes" layer and everything I've just traced in black is brought there with me and turned red.

  • Keep the scroll position on partial commit in af:table

    Hi,
We have an ADF 11.1.1.1.0 application that uses a lot of editable tables. In those tables, we have <tt>autoSubmit</tt> enabled for all fields, since some combo boxes and LOVs depend on values entered in the same row. The problem is, that every time a partial submit occurs, the table reloads itself and in the process the position of the scrollbar is lost. This means the user has to scroll down to the record he was editing and continue. By setting <tt>displayRow="selected"</tt> on the <tt><af:table></tt>, we can at least achieve that the table scrolls to the record the user was on a refresh. But if the record was not at the top when the user started editing, the record still "jumps" in the experience of the user. We would like a situation where the table keeps the exact position of the scrollbar while partial submits occur. Isn't it possible to just refresh the selected record, instead of refreshing all rows?
    Best regards,
    Bart Kummel

You can programmatically achieve this, check the following threads.

  • Skype and VLC cannot start, they keep bouncing on the dock

Skype and VLC cannot start in Mountain Lion. They just keep bouncing, they eventually stop bouncing but nothing shows up on the screen.
The CPU utilization goes to 100% and the computer starts overheating.
I found a way to start Skype and VLC from the command line:
    /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype
    /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC
The applications start successfully when the commands above are executed in the terminal.
Is there a reason why the applications do not work when started from the GUI? How can this be fixed?
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered. You can do that by copying and pasting as well. Omit the final line ending in “$”. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. It won't be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • HT1338 trying to drag file to sd card it keeps bouncing off

trying to drag file to sd card  it keeps bouncing off

How is the SD card formatted?
Open Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities).
Select the SD card in the left pane (leftmost entry, probably with the make and size of the card) and read the partition map scheme at the bottom right of the window.
Then select the volume (next entry, indented to the right below the card) and read the format in the left column.
If it's MBR and NTFS you can't write to it.
If it's MBR and MS-DOS (FAT 32) you should be able to write to it, if it's FAT16 I'm not sure you can.
Formatting for Mac only is GUID and Mac OS Extended (Journalled)

  • System Preference keeps bouncing

When I log in my account and try to run system preference, the icon keeps bouncing at the dock and subsequently the cursor becomes the forever "rainbow ball." I have to force quite system preference and run it again. However, when I run it again (run after the force quite without logging out and restart), it just works fine. I discovered from the internet that some users have the same problem, but I cannot find a solution at the web. It seems likely that this problem occurs in early intel macs which run only in 32-bit. Could any of you suggest a solution for this problem? Thanks.

    Hi kolly-ng:
In the past, when I've seen a dock icon bounce & the app not start, I've had some success by deleting the related plist (file).
To try this - first quit System Preferences, then:
    • Go to your home folder, then' Library' and then 'Preferences'
    • Locate a file named 'com.apple.systempreferences.plist' and drag it out of that folder and onto your desktop
    • Run System Preferences again...it will build a new plist file
If this cures the problem, feel free to trash the original file.
Also, since you can launch directly into a specific preference pane by right-clicking on System Preferences's Dock icon and then selecting your target preference (this works even when System Preferences is not yet running), you might try launching 'Software Update' (no need to jump thru the 32-bit hoop, etc.), as an example, just to test.
Good luck and ask again if the beachball comes back.

  • Spry Menu not positioned correctly in IE

I've search for a answer to this and it seems to be common but there has been no solution to be found. I have a spry horizontal menu that in FireFox, Safari and Opera opens and functions fine. In IE the menu buttons are in the correct place but the dropdowns are at the top of the screen. The virtical position is correct but the horizontal position is obviously off. I tried to keep the spry code as original as possible and have only altered the css to change font sizes and bkg colors.
Another issue I can't seem to solve is the font sizes for the sub menus. I would like the main buttons to be in bold and every sub menu that opens below to be in a normal font. No matter what I change in the CSS I can't get the fonts to go to normal w/o it altering the fonts in the button above. I hope this make sence. Here is the CSS code I'm working with.

Because you have centered the menu items you need to take special care not to upset the apple cart.
To center the menu items properly have a look here: http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/sprymenu/centering.php and while you are at it have a look at customizing a Spry menu as well.
After you have done that and made the appropriate chenges, please return here with further questions.
