Get a grip people!

You know what, i've read some crazy forums over the years and witnessed whining to the unbelievable, but this forum proper takes the cake!
I upgraded via the flashing of the nordic firmware. Prior to that I loaded the blog pages daily for months to see what insight Sony (and SE before) would give on the updates they said they'd be kind enough to put through.
We were given regular updates on the alpha and beta testing roms through the developer blogs and reports from other web pages. Near the reported time for the update, Sony published two articles, one explaining the strains that GOOGLE'S ics update was putting on their phone lineup and another explaining how the rollout would happen. They explained that due to the impact the new software would have on their 12 month old range of phones, they would NOT push the update out OTA (over the air), but via the update companion. This way you could make an educated (yes, educated, as they gave you all the information up front) decision about whether or not to apply the update.
Sony never HAD to give you an update. They could do what others are doing and only update a handful of handsets and just leave it at that. I'm certain most hardware vendors would rather you just went out and bought a new handset with the currrent software already baked into it, then do the same thing this time next year when Jellybean or Key Lime Pie comes along. From the initial announcement way back (in october i think?), Sony have been open and honest about how they're going forward.
For those of you making repeat threads throughout the forum, Sony have not broken your phone. If anything, you're to blame. You were given a clear choice about installing the update. If Sony had pushed it through OTA like my GF's HTC Sensation (you think Sony phones have battery issues now... sheesh!), then maybe they'd have a bit more to answer for. But they didn't and don't. Sure, there are a few bugs in the new software, but i'm certain there'll be an incremental update at some point to smooth them out before putting the 2011 Xperia range to bed.
So, in closing, before updating your phone, maybe look at what information there is available to you before connecting to the update software. And rather than making a whole new thread containing "Sony you broke my phone! launcher iz lagy, no facelock and gamze crash", think about firstly, YOU did this to your phone, you connected and downloaded that update, and secondly, why not add on to one of the more major threads, politely noting your problem and wait for a response.
I'm not a Sony fanboi, i've liked some products in the past and hated some, but people are really quite ridiculously misdrecting their anger here.
p.s. i didn't like the new launcher, i downloaded Nova Launcher free from the market...much better and looks like stock ICS

nice post indeed :-) :-) congrats and well said, unless i am restricted to put foreward my views, here is mine -
clearly sony did not differenciated the market between technical and non-technical customers while launching the 2011 flagships in the market, market strategy as it seem was, the very nicely and with every care they could master tagged the box of these products with "upgradable to ics", seriously there would be customers from a non techy background and they would not dig into the technical differences that might create any hurdles or limitations with the smooth running of an upgraded os. i guess as customers and going by what sony promised we have the right to demand value for our money, coz the reason why i spent money for my arc s is clearly different from why you spent your money for ur device. and the marketting path sony took was to be honest was manipulative, when i bought my arc s the only word came out from sony was about it will be upgraded and not about the limitations and drawbacks attached to it, and when any brand like sony promise somethig like this, well, it can be expected tht we will be given somewhat was clear and minimal issue filled update which certainly did nt happen as so many users are unhappy, every buyer of sony product has the right to show and throw their anger cz they paid and money is hard earned and in the open market people do expect vallue for money, am sorry but m not against sony, i have been a loyal customer, and neither i hv updated to ics but honestly i do feel tht the anger is justified, cz evn thougb the promise to update has been kept, yet the rational expectations attached with those promise were not met
