Get a little USB in my life - classic BB USB failures?

Being the owner of a second hand PB that arrived without a working micro usb port, I am constantly curious how it feels to have use of it. We get by just great otherwise.
The hdmi port has also tested broke, dysfunctional.
Several lead tests, and config checks have proven unsuccessful. So, somehow, they is busted.
SO, I wanted to ask about
--- the durability of the BB ports. What could do that? A drop, a knife in the slot? Are failing ports common. Somehow I doubt it.
--- the cost of renewing the ports. Seems silly as it works brilliantly without them. I am curious to see how it would work in the schools I work in through hdmi tv, for sure.
--- how many PB owners own TWO? It would be understandable, of course..!
Any info on experiences of causes, costs to fix much appreciated.

my kids would rip out the charge cord, try to connect to teh HDMI port to charge and broke 3 USB chargers.
I now have magnetic chargers and teach them how to connect the HDMI to the TV. they have had playbooks since June 2011 and after a few scares they treat them much better now that they are 8.

Curious little usb problem

:? I'm just about finished installing ARCH and I have a curious
little problem. At boot I was getting this message after the
mounting file systems section:
" mount: mount point /proc/bus/usb does not exist ".
I didn't pay much attention, but when running hwd -s it
reported I had a usb module available - usb-uhci. Not
knowing any better I put it in the module section of rc.conf.
Now I'm also getting:
"Fatal: module usb-uhci not found"
after the modules loaded section at boot up. The system
works ok, sort-of. Anybody know how to fix the usb problem?
I did have a usb mouse, but I had to connect to a ps2 port to get
it to work. Oh well, I still love linux anyway. -Thanks - Larry

Plug it in and check the output of dmesg. If it's recognized, it's probably a typo in your X.org config file (I assume it doesn't work in X).

There is a problem with the charging cable that wont let my iPad charge. it is probably the little usb thingy. it does charge when it is out of power, but as soon as it turns on it stops charging. anyone got a fix for it? mail me at simenrognli@hotmail.no

My chargers little USB port probably is the fail. it lets my ipad charge only when it is completely out of power, but as soon as it turns on, it stops charging. Any tips on what i can do? The charger is new and has worked until today. i cant bring it to the store because it was bought in my neighbour country Sweden. Thanks in advance.

- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

Regarding Pages charts, when I try to 'build' a 3D chart all I get is little dots but not graphics. No problems with 2D charts though. Guess my question is "Help?"

Thanks to Fruhulda and Peter for their comments regarding the refusal of Pages to let me make 3D charts.
In answer to the questions put to me in this regard :
1. Pages version : Pages '09 v.4.1 (923)
2. Mac O/S :          v.10.6.8
3. 3D chart :          Can't find a 'name', but upright bars with rounded corners ???
4. Moved apps :    Not that I'm aware of! All should be as installed off the disc.
5. A note :              I have been able to create these in the past - related to a SW update?
                      and ... can create these charts perfectly in Keynote (go figure).

I get the following:
(1) iTunes - The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? Yes/No
(2) iTunes - The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes if you wish to use these devices. OK
(3) iTunes error message - A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) OK
(4) iTunes error message - We could not complete your iTunes Store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) There is an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later. OK
Okay, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Funny, iTunes can be found in a program folder, but it does not show up in the programs list. I tried to look for it using the command prompt ("wmic" --> "product get name") but iTunes is not there either. Doesn't even show up in the registry to try to uninstall.
I just want to "properly" uninstall and reinstall iTunes (plus the other usual suspects, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, & Apple Application Support). If anyone out there has any suggestions, please help! (I'm running Windows Vista -- don't judge/laugh) :-)

Okay, feeling like an idiot, but will share so others don't have to. I rebooted my computer and that enabled iTunes to reappear in the programs list. Don't appear to be having the same problems as before (no error messages now). Problem solved!

When I go to Bookmarks, and I go to Bookmarks Toolbar, the list of bookmarks used to have the little logos/icons associated with the company, etc. I liked these. When v9.0.1 updated, I lost these. Ah, yes, I'm using Adobe Reader! That makes sense. Thanks so much for your reply. At the moment, I scan Word documents into my computer and they're automatically converted to PDFs. If I had Adobe Acrobat on my computer, and scanned in documents, would they open in Reader automatically or could I open them in Acrobat and therefore add password protection?

Does anyone else have the problem of clicking on something, say, for instance the red light, and then getting a little box of writing which obscures the red light so that nothing happens. I am getting terribly bored with this problem. It happens over and over again and then eventually I click again and the box with writing goes away and I can clcik the red light. Difficult to explain.

Apple's little USB modem is decent?

I need dialup capability on my MacBook in addition to wireless connectivity. Has anyone had good experience with Apple's little USB external modem? I have found some unfavorable comments about it online.

Hi Lombard User: I needed Dial-Up access on a recent trip. I purchased the Apple USB modem, and it worked great for me. The setup was painless, and it connected to the ISP every time, with as good a speed as could be expected from dial-up service.

How do I get the little screen back, that tells me how much ink I have left in my print cartridges? It used to show up whenever I would print something, now it doesn't and I have no idea how much ink is left in the cartridges. I have a HP Photosmart C4180 All in One Printer. I recently purchased new computer, a HP Pavilion P7-1254 AMD Vision, which runs Windows 7. I just want to know how to get the screen back that tells me how much ink I have left. Thanks.

Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
Open HP Solution Center , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
Open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, then click the Printer Services button.
The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.
