Get a message when trying to dump the trash.
Hi,
How do you dump stuff from the garbage when it keeps saying it's in use and you can't see it open?
Everytime this happens to me I have to shut down and restart to get the garbage to empty. I had some app that I downloaded and dumped in the trash and it kept saying it was in use. It wasn't open in my dock, I didn't see it on in Activity Monitor. What gives and why does this keep happening?

I'm a point, click, drag and "oh shoot" kind o mac user and can't ever remember then well enough to get to the end of the path. CommandOptionEscape will get you to the selection box, then you have to select the app. you want to Force Quit.

Here's the shortcuts, but I couldn't get Option-Command-esc / Force Quit to work in the box.

In my trash are some of my old time machine back ups if that makes a difference.
I get the following error message when I try and empty the trash;

I am getting negative numbers when trying to empty the trash.
I am trying to delete files from an external disk where I had my time machine backup. I dragged the files to the trash and tried to delete them. It now says Items to delete: -99,661
What can this mean and how do I now empty my trash?
Thanks, TimTime Machine has its own mechanism for deleting files. The number you are seeing may represent a "underflow" or a number of files which exceeds the limit and becomes negative.
The best way to remove TM files is via the TM interface: select the files and click the Gear and select delete from all backups.
If you are deleting files on an external drive which once included TM files, it is best to use the terminal and just delete them directly. They go bye-bye without ever seeing the trash bucket.
Of course, using the terminal is not for everyone.
What you might be able to do is restore the files from trash and then delete them properly or in smaller bundles. -
While trying to reinstall newest version of iTUNES 11 (on win7) after uninstalling itunes in hopes of resolving a sync issue with iPhone 4s. It asks to verify that i have access to above file so i hit retry and it pops sqme message up instantly. I hit cancel and it rolls back action and asks to finish install. I confirm and it tells me that Errors occurred during install before itunes could be configured. Then it says system has not been moddified. to complete the installation run the installer again. I have done this many times and get the same result..... Any suggestions for me?
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

The Web-Based Email plugin has crashed. I get this message when trying to paste simple text into an email document. I have updated plugins and have run out of options. If I use another browser I have no problem. Please advise.

Compiling from command line I found out that the class definition for oracle.oats.scripting.modules.basic.api.IteratingVUserScript is missing. Do you know what .jar file contains this class?

I have Photoshop CS5.1 (bought in 2011). The photoshop Camera Raw plug-in is not recognizing the format of my new Nikon D610. I updated the version of my Camera Raw plug in and am still getting this message when trying to open images in photoshop. Please help.
This link shows that ACR 8.3 supports the Nikon D610 and 6.7.1 was the final version for CS5.

or using the DNG converter, convert your Nikon raw files to dng format to open in CS5.

I am trying to update my iTunes to 10.5.1 so that I can upgrade my 3GS phone but am getting the following error message when trying to install the itunes: Install step failed: Run pre upgrade script for apple mobile device support. Contact software manufacturer for assistance. I am on a MacBook pro running 10.5.8 OS. Has anyone seen this before and how can I get it resolved.

When I try to uninstall iTunes I get a message saying iTunes 64 msi can not be located and I should enter an alternate path. How would I know where it it is? I get the same message when trying to install the update to iTunes 10.6.1.
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

Do a clean reinstall.

Do you mean trying to purchase an iPhoto book? Try rebooting and ordering again. If that fails Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try ordering from there.
