Get Apple to Cover Repair

My macbook pro 13" is just over two years old, and recently (starting about a week ago) the screen has been experiencing problems. I brought it in to the genius bar and they said the lcd cable is being pinched or spererating or something of that nature. They then told me that it would cost $400 to have it repaird in store or $300 to have it sent away (which he said would take about a week).
I think its ridiculous that I have to pay so much. The laptop has never been dropped or abused, there is no external damage, this is obviously a flaw either in the component or the design. I love my macbook, but things like this shouldn't happen, and if they do, they should be a minimal expense to fix.
Is there an address I can email to complain to Apple and see if I can get them to waived?
Thanks

Well, if you had purchased AppleCare, it might have been covered since you say there are no signs of user accidental damage.  But without AppleCare, you are basically on their case by case repair costs, rather than their repair program.  There is one instance non-AppleCare may be covered, and that's the exchange/repair programs:
http://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/
If you think you might be under this, present it to them in the future, and explain why you think it might cover you.
Be calm and succinct when you speak to them.  An angry customer rarely yields the desired results for a customer, because it makes it look like the customer is prone to accidents.
If you are in the U.S., see these sites as possible sources for cheaper repair:
http://www.dttservice.com/
http://www.powerbookresq.com/
http://www.microdocusa.com/
http://www.macspecialist.com/
http://www.techrestore.com/
You can always call AppleCare and complain, and ask to speak to customer relations if the immediate feedback is not consistant with your views.
If you are simply interested in voicing your opinion, you can always post feedback to:

This is just a user to user forum.

  • Can i get referral from apple for the repair of unlocked iphone?

Is it possible to get referral from Apple (HK) to repair my unlocked iphone in the Philippines? the unit was originally purchased from HK and brought to the Philippines, but it encountered hardware problem, I am thinking that it is cheaper if the repair will done here. But only the two major telecoms here are doing the repair, neither of the authorized resellers and service centers of apple here are repairing iphones.

Apple's warranty is NOT worldwide.  To get warranty service on an iPhone you need to bring it in to the country of purchase.

Well first you locate your Caps Lock key. It is located above shift, and below tab. Now you press it, and take a deep breath. If your iPod is outside of its service, have you looked into other options like local repair shops? Sometimes they still service older products.

  • I dropped my MacBook Pro and the corner of the lid got dented. Will apple care cover that? If not, and ideas what the repair cost would be?

Will apple care cover a dented corner? If not, any ideas on repair prices?

AppleCare does not cover accidental damage. Your homeowners'/renters' insurance may. Put them on notice of an accident now.
We are end users like you and have no way of knowing costs in your area. The repair cost will probably be higher for a Retina MBP than for a non-Retina, but you've not told us which of the dozens of MacBook Pro variants you have.
Call an Apple Store and make an appointment. Estimates are usually free.

The warranty does not cover accedental damage like a broken screen.  However, some time the Genius at the Genius Bar of an Apple store will replace the iPod at not cost.  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar and ask. If not under warranty, Apple will exchange yours for:

  • Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. Will i be eligible to get a screen   LCD repair from Apple ?

I dropped my ipod by accident and i decided to repair the ipod myself by buying a screen off eBay. I replaced the the screen and everything was working when i tested the iPod before screwing the backplate back on. When i closed the iPod, it had a white screen when i power up. I held the power and home button for 30 second and nothing happens. The power button still powers the screen on and home, and when i hold it down it powers off the iPod.Replaced iPod screen myself, screen not working. No, you are not eligible.

  • How can I get Apple to replace my rev a with isight imac?

I'm on my second major repair of my Imac rev a in less than a year. So many horror stories here. How hard is it to get Apple to replace my computer with one that one break down all the time? Any advice would be helpful.

I am currently trying my hardest to get a replacement machine. I have had several repairs on my iMac, (6 trips to the apple store!!) but they have told me that my repairs were not major enough to warrant a new machine. I am sending letters and documentation to as many people in customer relations as possible.
Right now my computer is getting repaired. Again.

  • Vertical line issue - How can we get Apple to address this?

    Hi guys,
As can be seen in this forum (and a lot of other forums, as well), a lot of people are experiencing this problem on their 17" iMac G5 with iSight. Here are some pertinent details (which may be familiar to a lot of people but can be a primer for those who are just starting to experience the problem):
    1. For most of us, these lines started appearing between 13-15 months after they purchased them. The lucky ones either had these failures occur during the first 12 months, or had APP.
    2. The majority of these units can be traced to the Shanghai factory W8 (enter your S/N in this website to get the manufacturing information of your unit: http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html).
    3. A similar issue occurred (or is occurring) with 17" PBs. From what I have read on the Apple PB forums, it seems that this has been a long standing issue and Apple has SUPPOSEDLY attempted to censor some of the posts discussing this. Note that these units can also be traced back to the same Shanghai factory.
    4. The "iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" which certain people have always been referring users to on posts discussing this type of problem obviously refers to a totally different issue (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/) and is applicable only to first gen iMac G5s. I'm sure that everyone appreciates it but, at this point, it is quite clear that it is not the solution to our problem.
    5. Based on the number of posts discussing this very same problem in the Apple forums, it is pretty obvious that these are not isolated issues. There are too many similarities (time of failure, how the numbers of line increase over time, manufacturing source, etc.)
    6. Some people have suggested that unstable power sources may be the primary cause of the problem. However, based on the locations of the people with these problems who have posted in this forum, it seems unlikely. From what I can see, the problem happens whether you are from a highly industrialized country (where a stable power source can be expected) or a developing country (where power sources MAY be more unstable).
    7. Apple has typically responded (to anyone who has taken the time to write or have their iMacs inspected) that this is not a known manufacturing defect issue. As such, the cost to repair this problem, which can go up to USD 500, will have to be borne by the owner.
    8. Based on posts of some people who have had their units repaired, it is the LCD that has to be replaced. This is also supported by posts from people who have resorted to purchase a separate display as a workaround.
Now, the question is, *how do we get Apple to address this issue*? Do we all start writing Steve Jobs about it? Do we go to the press? Should we put up a website and Digg it to death? A spoof video on YouTube? MySpace? Or will we just suffer in silence? Suggestions anyone?
P.S. Suggestions that involve any sort of violence or industrial sabotage are not acceptable, please.
Note that Ale_Tog has put up a Flickr page where we can post photos of our poor iMacs. Just send the photo to [email protected] with the subject "Dead pixels on iMac". No text, just the photo attachment. (+Ale_Tog, if you read this, I hope you don't mind me posting this here. Also, I suggest that we at least put the first 5 chars of the serial number, the factory information which can be retrieved on the link in #2 above, and which country the unit is based.+). I highly recommend that everyone send a photo to show that these are not isolated issues.
To get an idea on how many people are experiencing this problem, here are a list of posts in these forums, as well as others, discussing this issue (feel free to add to this):

Please start sending your suggestions. The more the many-ier!

Yep. I feel Apple's 1 year manufacturer warranty for the iMac is not adequate, especially for an all-in-one unit with a relatively high price.
My iMac G5 started displaying a vertical cyan line about 4 weeks ago, only about 19-20 months after I bought it for Christmas in 2005.
I called up Apple to enquire what could be done and was told by their customer service that a rather long period had elasped since the warranty expired in 2006. So I was told to take the iMac to an authorised repair centre and Apple will not contribute to the cost of the repair.
I expect respectable service life from my computer and anything less than 5 years is totally unacceptable. Thus I seriously question the value proposition for the iMac in this respect. Does it mean that I have to replace my iMac every 2 years? The computer still feel reasonably zippy, I still have plenty of space left on my hard drive, but the screen is failing ...
Today another line (green) appeared on the screen ...
It is my understanding that a number of LCD monitor manufacturers are now providing 3 year warranties for their products. Now why should Apple only provide a 1 year warranty? Especially when the replacement option will cost more than buying an entire new LCD monitor with even better specifications?
Based on the number of responeses I have seen here, this is not a rare occurance and I seriously question their quality control in their manufacturing process. I think Apple should be responsible for these repairs, and also provide a 3-year warranty for their LCD screens.
My iMac's serial number is W8548Zxxxxx.
Sincerely yours, an unhappy Apple customer.

  • Would apple warranty cover the broken plug inside the headphone jack?

I broke the cord when it is connected to my iPod touch. I can't get it out so I decided to call the support. The lady said I would be coverd by my limited warranty and told me to visit the genius bar. At there, the man told me I would have to pay $99 so I just left. Who is right and does Apple really cover my damage or what?

You'll have to take or send the iPod to Apple for diagnosis. If they determine that the problems are due to manufacturing defects, not user abuse, then the problems would be corrected under warranty (they'll just replace the iPod). Only Apple will be able to make that determination.
    Good luck, and regards.

No. That would not be a manufacturing defect.  Any repair costs will be bourne by you.

  • Buying Macbook components from Apple for self repair

Has anyone here had any experience with buying components from Apple?
The fan in my Macbook is on its way out. Some times it spins right up and works ok. Sometimes it struggles, spins slowly then stops. Its been making a noise for a couple weeks now but its only the last couple days that its stopped altogether. When it does this i can hear it is trying to fire up but cant. A reboot normally sorts it out.
My warranty has expired and my local Apple dealer tell me its going to be a standard £75 charge for labour plus the cost of the parts. Now call me stingy but £100 sounds pretty steep for a new fan / heatsink and fan combo!
Ive built, fixed and upgraded many a PC and had most Mac models in bits at some point so im more than happy to replace the parts myself. However my local Apple store tell me that a part of their license with Apple states that they will not sell parts on, they are only allowed to repair them on site.
Has anyone here ever managed to get Apple to send out components such as these for a DIY repair?

This site will give you parts and an online take apart manual as well..

After months and months of new reports, it's pretty clear that this is an Apple Mountain Lion problem and one that Apple needs to address.  As one frsutrated user noted :

Does apple still cover the iPod touch 2 gen

What do you mean by cover?
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
      Apple - iPod Repair price
However, the cost may not be worth it for a 2G iPod.
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
