Get back to my mac up and running

Hi Guys,
A while a go I got a new modem/router from my internet provider and since that moment my "Back to Mac" option of my Time Capsule is not working anymore. What I have is an Experiabox V8 Arcadyan VGV7519 and connect to this modem a Time Capsule.
I put the Experiabox in bridge mode. And turned of the DHCP functionality.
Time Cupsule settings are:
Internet -> DHCP
Network -> Bridge Mode
At this stage the internet is working but the "Back to Mac" isn't
Now I set Network to DHCP - NAT and the internet is gone. I don't get any error's. Only a orange light at the internet connection in my Airport Utility. What am I doing wrong and how can I get the "Back to Mac" function up running again?
I hope you have enough information, if not please let me know and I'll provide you with more info and screenshots of what ever you need.
Thanks in advance,
Joost

The TC must be in router mode for BTMM to work.
You are therefore in the wrong mode.
Your internet is via TC in bridge mode.. yet you also state you have the
I put the Experiabox in bridge mode. And turned of the DHCP functionality.
It simply cannot be right.. If you did the above you have both units in bridge.. there is nothing that can work as a router.
Now I set Network to DHCP - NAT and the internet is gone.
Just makes it more confusing as you now have no router and you cannot even use one.
Let me guess.. your ISP is using 10.x.x.x private IP address range.. that will kill the operation of the TC in router mode.
Although you should get an error.
So.. please can you give me the IP of all the computer and devices in the network.
And do a traceroute in terminal from one of the computers.
eg
MacProie-5:~ Ray$ traceroute 8.8.8.8
traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

Use a familiar website or just the google DNS is the easiest.
You must get the TC into router mode for this to work.
BUT you bridge the modem and you will lose other functionality of the box.. like voip.
There are other ways to access the TC in bridge behind a modem router.. and it isn't hard.. use a direct AFP connection and setup portforwarding a ddns in the modem.. and you will be nearly there. Plenty of info about remote access in to the TC.

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini?

Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini? The network uses a Time Capsule. Everything works when connecting from the Mini to the Air, but the reverse is not the case, none of the Mini's drives are visible, and the screen sharing option is not available. I've tried the measures already suggested in online articles, everything seems to be configured correctly using my iCloud account. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've now managed to get the service running in both directions, but not in the way I had anticipated. I had to create a second account on the Mac Book Air, this also has administrator privilages, everything works fine when connecting from this acccount. However, this is not the way I would expect to work, none of my documents, applications and settings would be available, unless I laboriously duplicated them to the new account.
Also, I've yet to get the service running from outside my home network.

  • Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (os x snow leopard) using bootcamp.  I can't get back to my mac now.  I've tried logging off of windows and shutting it down.  when i restart it comes back on in windows.  How do I get back to my os x?

Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (Mac OS X Snow Leopard) using bootcamp.  Windows 7 works great, but I can't get back to my Snow Leopard.  When I log off or shut down Windows and try to start up again, all I get is Windows.  How do I get back to my mac operating system?

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

  • Can't Get Back to My Mac

I have tried without success to get Back to My Mac working since downgrading from MobileMe to iCloud.  It can find some of the Macs on my network but not others, and it's never the same ones that get found or not found from one day to the next.  In addition, I can't connect between Macs on the LAN using Back to My Mac even though they're all signed into the same iCloud account.  I have UPnP enabled on my router and have opened the necessary ports per the troubleshooting guide on Apple's website, but nothing resolves the problems.  Does anyone have Back to My Mac working correctly with a non-Apple router?

I use a supplied router (o2) as the DHCP server and a number of extremes in bridging mode to extend my local network. The networks at my offices all use non Apple routers,. Back to my mac works across my LAN and my WAN but doesn't seem to be able to wake sleeping macs across the WAN.

  • HT1338 I have WIndows on my MACbook Pro which opens when I turn on the laptop.  I can't remember what buttons to push to get back to the Mac side.  Can Anyone help me remember that?

I have a Macbook Pro that has Windows loaded.  I use that most often and it opens immediately upon opening the computer.  I can't remember how to get back to the Mac side of the computer and want to begin to use it as well.  Can anyone help me remember the buttons to push ?
    Thank you

Hold down the Option key when starting up, or restarting. You'll be presented with the Startup Manager, which is a simple graphic of the drives you can boot to. Double click the drive which has OS X on it. Once in OS X, go to the System Preferences and click on Startup Disk. Choose the drive you always want the Mac to boot to first.

    Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
    That's all.
    Lupunus
PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

Welcome to Discussions - the fact that the S.M.A.R.T. status is not recognized and the flashing questions mark appear seem to indicate that your hard drive has failed. If you have access to TechToolPro or Disk Warrior, try to use them to check the drive status. This will likely not work, and I'm afraid your disk is toast.
You could try to remove the drive and put it in an external case and try to mount it on your MacBook, but I don't hold out much hope for that either. You can try using [Data Rescue|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/211375] to retrieve your data.
You can also take it in to Apple and see what they say. Please let us know how things turn out,

  • Trouble getting "back to my mac" to work on new Air - and really need this functionality

This is sort of one of those "asked and answered" threads, but I wanted to share my solution. I love being able to see my other computers remotely. I don't think Apple sells the functionality of remote desktop enough. I have a laptop and I also run to mini servers, one at work, and one at home. When I first got "back to my mac" working with my Apple ID on all three computers I thought I had died and went to heaven. With fast internet access this is really incredible - able to move files back and forth and see different things - even run things like media encoding on another computer so my laptop is not slowed down.
But when I bought a new Air a couple of weeks ago I ran into a problem. I had done everything right. Each computer allows login with my Apple ID and all the sharing was turned on properly - remember, I was doing this with my previous Macbook Pro just fine.
But everytime I would click on the remote computer in finder, finder would just quit and restart. Weird. Crash and then restart of finder.
So I've been fighting with it.
Then I discovered I could click on "All" in the sidebar (to see all networked computers and servers). Then if I right-clicked on the server that showed up in the list in the main window of "All" I could choose a "connect as" and get it to work. Now it works regardless even if I double-click right on the icon of the remote server in the sidebar.
If you followed all of that, it could help you. If you're not using this "remote desktop feature, you should.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

  • Can't get back to my mac to work

I am guessing that this problem belongs somewhere in the server section.
I am very crossed about this, as I have been calling apple support twice, they told me to chip on all the remote functions in sharing, and since remote management chips off screen sharing, I wondered but did what they told me to do. I am now working on my laptop on an open network, but don't see my home computer that has been set ready for back to my mac.
I am crossed as support did not even know what back to my mac is or was, and if they then after some holding on tell me to do the remote stuff, it still does not work. My router and computer have firewall off, nothing is really blocking incoming traffic to my home computer.
Steve jobs and the apple home page make it look like kids play, why is it so hard for me then?
The only real manual for this is the silly kiddly like movie on the back to mac feature, nowhere but nowhere do I find an actual guide to find settings, net werk settings, what to chip on or off...
I have played with the UPnP of my router, the only thing I have not done so far is the port mapping thing.
I was able to screen share with my son in Belgium from England, that part works, so I think that I am not so stupid as I do feel now....
Why is taking me so much trouble and aggrevation to get it to work. Both laptop and home computer have leopard, have sharing on, have firewall off, I am so annoyed right now....

    Hi, Catherine,
This forum is for Apple Remote Desktop, Apple's utility for managing networked Macs, so it really wouldn't seem to be the most appropriate place for your question.
I'm a bit puzzled, though, as to what it is you're trying to do. What "back to my Mac" are you referring to? If you're referring to the "Back to My Mac" that's a feature of Apple's .Mac service, that's a function only available if you're running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, but your profile says that you're running Mac OS X 10.4. If you are indeed running 10.5 and that is the function you're talking about, the best place to ask for help will be the Back to My Mac forum.
If that's not what you're referring to, please explain further what it is you're trying to do and perhaps we can direct you to the forum where you'll be most likely to get help.
    Regards.

  • My Yahoo toolbar is gone requiring me to press the back button thru all of the pages I've viewed to get back to my homepage. AND more importantly I can no longer use Kodak Gallery. How do I return to an older version of Firefox?

The recent version of Firefox apparently does not support/permit me to see/use the Yahoo toolbar. Therefore, I have to manually page back thru all of the yahoo pages I've visited to get back to the main page.
Also the recent version of Firefox apparently is not compatible with Kodak Gallery's functions; therefore use of my many photo albums stored online is no longer available.
Apparently I need to go back to an older version of Firefox or use another browser.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Get Back to my Mac to Wake from Sleep

Hello.  I am having trouble accessing my home iMac over the internet when it is in sleep mode.  I am running Mountain Lion with an Airport Extreme.  I have Back to My Mac enabled.  I have no problem accessing the computer over the internet when the computer is awake.  My Airport Extreme is running in Bridge mode.  The AE is connected to a Verizon Wireless Router/Modem via an Ethernet cable.  I read somewhere to enable the NAT mode on my Airport Extreme, but this gives me a double NAT error message.  I also have several Ethernet cables connected to my Verizon Router that I currently use.  I do not use the Verizon wireless feature and would be happy to have it disabled.
I think that the problem may be related to the Verizon router.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    network wrote:

That is likely. Although the Bonjour Sleep Proxy is open source, I do not know of any routers other than Apple's that support it. The router must send a "magic packet" over wireless to wake a sleeping Mac.
Double NAT will also be a problem. BTMM is likely to spontaneously start working for you, if you can find a way to disable the Verizon's router function, using it strictly as a modem, and configure the Extreme as your router instead.
Populate the Back to My Mac fields in AirPort Utility > Base Station with your Apple ID(s). This may or may not be optional; my tests have not yet reached a conclusion.
Make sure you can get it to wake while you're at home, if it does, then proceed with troubleshooting it while away from home.
Leave the iMac's Ethernet port disconnected for now. Over several months of testing I concluded that a sleeping iMac cannot be woken up over the Internet if Ethernet is connected at all, even though it may not be first in the service order. It will wake on Gigabit Ethernet when the "wake" request originates from within the LAN (local Bonjour). This is the same whether I use a Time Capsule or an Extreme.

  • Back to My Mac, iCloud and Windows 7

I just got my first personal Mac and set up a Time Capsule for my backups and storing some data.  I turned on Back to My Mac in the manual setup because I want to be able to connect at work.  The problem is I'm running Windows 7 at the office.  I also found instructions for setting up DynDNS with the Time Capsule (which I went through) but it still doesn't seem to be working.  I found other discussions about a VNC client but I'm only interested in getting the files from the Time Capsule.  Am I mising a step somewhere?

Back to My Mac for iCloud and Back to My Mac for MobileMe are seperate services, and systems on one will not be able to connect to systems on the other.
