Get camera roll from a prior backup without overwriting your existing photos

So I think I have some photos on the camera roll in a prior backup that I did that I'd like to restore, but I don't want the backup which just contains those photos to overwrite the existing camera roll on the iPhone, which contains a different set of pictures. Is there a way to get the old photos from the backup and append them to the existing camera roll on the iphone?
Using Windows 7, iPhone 4s, iOS 5

sure pretty simple. make a backup of your current settings

then import pics to computer

then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

I found out how to do it (not intuitive at all by the way) but I did it wrong, deleted her camera roll and photostream. Lost about 300 pics. Her phone is always backed up to the computer so I believe there is a backup prior to removing the pics. I'm trying to find out how to go to an older backup to restore so I can find the camera roll pics.

If your backup space is full then the best souiton is to increase the amount of space you have by purchasing more since backups are critical to not losing things
You can not remove things from iCloud directly

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

Ok. I have 2 hard drives and one of them died apparently so..not knowing what to do, I did chose reinstall Lion after command r open start-up. The whole thing is a mess but my computer is back up and running with the second hard drive. I had a time machine backup which I've been dragging stuff out of. i had to re enter serial numbers and do all sorts of initial set up stuff. 1) How do I get all of my icons (like my HD icon and external drives icons) to appear on my desktop again? Got my photos & videos back into camera roll! I woke this morning and all 701 were there. This is a few less than the most recent backup had, but good enough. So, there were a few things flakey about my experience restoring from iCloud. Therefore as many, including yourself have noted, iCloud IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A TRUSTED METHOD for backing up, storing or restoring photos & videos. If your photos & videos are important to you, backup to your computer at regular intervals.
What worked?
1: Following randers4's suggestion to review ezjules' post (see above for link).
2: When the most recent backup failed, I went to the next one available (2 days old)
3: When the Photo App displaying X of XXX images downloading in camera roll got hung up on the first few images, I powered down the phone and it resumed downloading more. However, it hung up 2 more times and then proceeded while I went to bed.
4: Phone was plugged into A/C outlet entire time, no incoming or outgoing phone calls or texts.
I am no longer going to back up photos or videos to the cloud. I will also cancel my additional storage capacity on iCloud. Why pay for secure storage that is so flakey?!?

What do you mean by storage quota, does that mean i could be photo streaming about 1gb of photos and it does not get taken away from my free 5bg.

Camera Roll photos from an iPhone backup will not be transferred to an iPad. iPhone to iPhone will transfer the Camera Roll, but iPhone to iPad, or iPad to iPhone will not transfer the Camera Roll.

Can you get camera RAW from an iPod/iPhone 5?

I have a lot of high end camera equipment, but find that the iPod 5 is so handy that I am starting to take a lot more photos on that rather than my Nikons.
I know I am sacrificing a lot for convenience but would still like to get the best images possible.
1. Is there a method of getting camera RAW from an iPhone?
2. What is the optimal format from the iPhone?
3. If I chose uncompressed jpeg as the Export format from iPhoto/Aperture, is that already too late?
4. If so where and how do I get better versions?
5. Can anyone refer me to a workflow that will extract the best possible image and then clean it up?

You may be able to extract it from the backup of the iPod
iPhone Backup Extractor for Windows and Mac
Otherwise, you will have to make screen-shots of the screens and then view/print them out

You can delete them from your phone by opening the album that contains them, tap Edit, tap the photos you want to delete, the tap Delete. You can also import camera roll photos to your computer and delete them after importing as explained in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

What exactly have you deleted.
If you have deleted the photos from your camera roll on your device, then you may well have lost them, assuming that they are not also in photo stream.
Please tell is exactly what you deleted and from where.

Get camera roll in chronological order

Is there a way to ensure that Camera Roll sorts photos in chronological order? Obviously, the shots I take on my iPhone itself are in the right order, but ones that I import into Camera Roll from other sources (shared Photostreams, my other iDevices, edited on my iMac etc) appear in the order in which I save them to Camera Roll, which creates a random and rather useless compilation. My iPhone 4 camera roll decides to rebuild the library every once in a while and everytime this happens, it moves my most refer pictures and places them some where in the middle of the camera roll, making my last pictures I took with my 3Gs the most recent ones showing at the bottom. Small inconvenience but it looks like someone at Apple screwed up in setting up the sequence numbering of these pix and now it's a pain for the end users.
Has anyone experience the same issue and been able to successfully solve the problem? Please help.
