Get ident to work on Mac Snak IRC software in OS 10.6

I am trying to get ident to work on Mac Snak IRC software on Mac OS 10.6. I installed their optional ident software. But, the IRC server always reports no ident response. I tried enabling port 113 on the router, even tried turning the firewall off, but it still doesn't work. Anyone have a solution to this?

Hi Z,
Lets check the Port Forwarding at your end.
Does this Zyxel have UPnP at all ?
If so use that and disable the Port Forwarding.
If not then these ports need to be forwarded.
I will list with Protocols as some device need these.
TCP 5190 for AIM Login and text chats (can be substituted for 443)
TCP 5220, 5222 and 5223 for Jabber (the last is for OS X servers and GoogleTalk)
TCP 5298 this is part of the Bonjour set up for iChat if you have other Macs
UDP 5060 this is for the SIP negotiation that iChat needs
UDP 5678 this is where the visible invites come and go out on.
UDP 5190 for AIM file sending and Group chats
UDP 16384-16403 This group of 20 ports is where any Audio or Video chat takes place.
As the 443 port is below 1024 (the NAT threshold) you should not have to Forward this.

Getting AHT to work on Mac mini server

I have a intel core 2 duo Mac mini server (macmini4,1), and I'm having sporadic freezing/locking issues. I am trying to run the apple hardware test but it doesn't work, holding down the 'd' key does nothing. If I try single-user mode startup it works fine so there doesn't seem to be an issue with the keyboard. Since this is the server I also don't have an optical drive to go to to boot from the install disc. Why doesn't this work? Is there an alternative way to get this to run that doesn't involve the install disc?

Actually, this problem is only partially solved. I still get "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock..." when I type 'mysql'. I can access mysql by typing 'sudo mysql', but still get the socket error when connecting via php, so I think I still need to get to the point where I can type mysql without sudo.
Also, I went ahead and installed MySQL 5 with the tar package.

How do you get SSL to work on Mac OS X Server 10.5.8?

Hi, I have created a SSL certificate (twice with the server admin tools and once with the openssl command) and I get this in the log of the apache web service:
[error] Init: Pass phrase incorrect
I have searched but aside from changing the httpd.conf file to not use:
SSLPassPhraseDialog exec:/etc/apache2/getsslpassphrase
and instead echo a generic passphrase, I don't know what to do. I have not tried this btw. It seems the wrong answer, even if it works.
I have also seen to uncheck the performance cache option in the sites, option pane, but 10.5 does not have this and I don't know if it exists in a config file somewhere.
Does anyone know how to get SSL working on the mac leopard server? it's a stock, advanced install.

Easiest way is to not use a passphrase on the cert. It isn't required and can be left blank. That way apache doesn't need to know it and will use the certificate.
Of course, this means you need to manage access to your certificates, but that should be the case anyway.

Anyone know how to get Lightscribe to work on Mac?

I bought and I/O Magic lightscribe for my mac. I bought the burner at Staples from a salesperson that knew I had Mac only. The CD burner works just fine. I just cannot get the lables to burn. What a pain! Anyone know of any software that will work. I hate the simple labler that lightscribe offers. It has 4 whole designs, not the extended design folders. I tried the Smile disc burning system. The lables look horrible. Nothing like the Lightscribe designs on a PC. I recently lost my PC where I burned all my lables. Bummer. Suggestions anyone?

This happened to me too but after I had read various messages on this forum I went into system preferences/date and time and unclicked the set date and time automatically. For some reason the preferences on facetime were no longer greyed out and facetime worked again! Hope this helps

Can't get mouse to work with mac mini

Yes, I replaced the batteries.
Not sure what's going on. I booted the Mac Mini and the message I'm getting is "Searching for mice -0 found" then it will attempt to search again...nothing. I've attempted keyboard commands, but I'm unable to close out the window that asks me to connect to a network. Any guidance would be great. Thanks!

First try and see if the mouse is working. Look in System Preferences > Bluetooth and see if the mouse shows as connected or not. If it does and you are still getting the message, select the mouse then click on Advanced and UNcheck "Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup is no mouse or trackpad is detected."
If the mouse is NOT connected then try creating a clean Bluetooth environment by disabling any and all Bluetooth emmiters whithin 30 or 40 feet such as iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, iPads); other Blutooth keyboards, mice, trackpads; other computers, etc.
Sometimes cycling Blutooth of then on again can help (which is why I always keep a wired mouse and keyboard around). If the mouse was previously paired with the computer, and you have a wired mouse handy, in System Preferences > Bluetooth select the icon for the mouse then Control+Click and select "Remove" from the contextual menu then retry pairing.
The good news is once you get past this glitch, the next time you reboot pairing should go transparently.

Can't get skype to work on mac partition but works on windows partition

i can't seem to get my skype to work on the mac side. it works fine and i've tested it on the windows side (windows xp) but it doesn't work when i'm logged into the mac side.
any suggestions?

Do you have the mac version of skype ? the version of skype that is for mac downloaded on your mac partition?
I am using skype just fine on my mbp, but i am not using windows on my mac. Just curious-

Getting MySQL to work on Mac OS X Server v10.4

I am having trouble with running MySQL 4 on Mac OS X Server 10.4. (While the other application I will be installing works with both versions 4 and 5 of MySQL, I just thought it might be easier to get 4 working since it is the default version that comes with the OS.) I have launched "/Applications/Server/MySQL Manager.app", pressed the install button, then pressed the start button. By pressing the button, I am able to toggle visually between start and stop modes within the GUI. However, upon further inspection, MySQL doesn't seem to be actually running. At the terminal, I get:
$ which mysql
/usr/bin/mysql
$ ls /usr/local
ls: /usr/local: No such file or directory
$ ps -ax | grep mysql
3489 p2 R+ 0:00.00 grep mysql
$ mysql
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (13)
Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

Just bought Harmon Kardon soundsticks III cannot get it to work on mac mini

Just purchased the Harmon Kardon soundsticks very nice looking but does not work with my mac mini. Connected it up as per manual instructions plugged it in line in cable to line in but no sound. Went into system preferences to check to see Input (Line In) Output (Internal Speakers), is there something I am not doing correctly. My other speakers which has decided to retire through old age was picked up perfectly. Can anyone help. Incidentally I am using an audio jack not usb.

Thanks for replying, I am unable to change to line out I have no options, the only way that I have been able to get t he speakers to work is by plugging into the headphone jack. Is it possible the sound card is broken?

Can't get slideshow to work on mac

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I cannot get the
Slideshow command to work on my iMac. It goes through all the
things needed to make it work - exactly the same as the PC - but
when you expect to see a preview of each picture while setting it
up, it says it can't find the file. If you click the 'Create'
button it goes through its paces, showing the percentage completed,
but when you try to open it in the browser, it hasn't written
anything to the folder (in fact it doesn't seem to have written
anything anywhere, no index file, no xml file, no nothing!!!
Help!!

apparently FW has problems finding it.
I think I have the problem solved - at least this one (I seem
to be having another one with saving to SPRY/HTML format).
I got the clue from another post. Apparently FW doesn't like
folder names with spaces and my site was buried pretty deep in the
directory structure. I copied the site to a location just under the
root of the drive and made sure there were no spaces in the folder
names so now it only has to look for DRV:/mywebsite/images and then
I export the gallery to DRV:/mywebsite/photo_gallery.
All the flash galleries seem to work fine but I'd like to
look at the SPRY/HTML gallery before I make a final decision which
to go with.
Al for FW defaulting to it's orignal program directory
everytime I go to look for an album I simply find it annoying...

Can't get Flashplayer to work for Mac

I am having an issue with my Flashplayer. I recently thought it was specific to Firefox but it appears to be all browsers. I used to just crash all the time, but now I can actually no longer watch many videos, though youtube still appears to work. I have seemingly tried everything. Uninstalled and reinstalled, activated plugins, made sure they're up to date, etc. I have tried every suggestion I've found anywhere on the web and nothing has worked. I am growing quite frustrated. I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.

Cannot get filezilla to work on mac 10.5.8

I have downloaded the file from the filezilla website, however after unarchiving the file, when I try to open it, an error reads "failed to write xml file" I've tried other FTPs but they don't work very well.

I would contact the developers for advice.

Cannot get sound to work on Mac Book Pro.

MaBook Pro. OS X. Version: 10.6.8 Sound won't work. I have gone to system preferences and checked "sound"--that seems to be fine.

There may be a resolution through use of the System Management Controller (SMC)
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
If the use of a headphone and the audio jack in the computer does not gain access to
sound output, (indicating other issue, if it does) then the SMC may help reset the Mac
since the issue may be software, hardware, or both to a minor degree.
And if those don't work you may have to contact an Apple authorized service provider
for testing, diagnostic, and/or repair purposes. If you manage to set a Genius appoint-
ment at an Apple Store, they may be able to perform diagnostics on this issue.
•OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM - works w/ other Mac OS X versions.
Hopefully the reset SMC - or perhaps reset PRAM - may help.
