"Get info" grayed out

5th Gen iPod nano. "Get info" on iTunes10.1 is
grayed out so I can't get to any of the options.

Get info remains grayed out if I highlight an item.
However, later when I re-opened iTunes, I was able to GET INFO and set the option to resume playing where an item had been stopped. However, this setting did not work, and my audiobook starts over (I tried it on a new download). No response on trying to advance the playback either. I get the audiobooks free through my public library and its arrangement with www.netlibrary.org, and they do not seem to be set in tracks, so the resume playing part is especially important. • ITunes 11 "get info" grayed out

Some of my songs' info under "get in" are grayed out, so I cannot change genre, etc.  I have read thru a lot of old posts and I've checked the permissions on the iTunes folder and they are correct.  Weird thing is that only some songs are grayed out, and some are not.  I checked these individual songs permissions and they are correct.  Any ideas?
    I have a MAC
    iTunes 11
    Match

When you add a movie to iTunes you have to make sure it makes a copy of the file in the iTunes Media folder.  Otherwise, you can't edit any of the information on the movie or video.
In iTunes 12, go to Edit-->Preferences
In Preferences, go to Advanced and make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".
Unfortunately, you will now have to re-import the movie files into iTunes using "Add File To Library..." Once imported, the movie will sometimes appear under "Home Movies" instead of "Movies" but if you right click on the movie file it will list a menu item called "Get Info" where you can change the "Options" to "Movie".
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes 11 - Get Info greyed out for movies on external drive

With iTunes 10, my itunes movies and TV shows grew to about 1.2TB of data, and I shifted them to an external drive.
I was able to edit the information via 'get info' until upgrading to iTunes 11.
Now all the information, bar the 'five stars' field are greyed out. If I shift a particular movie back to the internal drive, I can edit (genre, for example). Shift away again, get info greys out.
Any advice? It feels like iTunes thinks it has the wrong permissions.

  • Volume slider in track info grays out with audio interface

I'm using a Presonus Inspire interface for mic and guitar. But in new tracks, the volume slider in track info grays out when I plug it in. Prefs recognizes the interface and I set audio in and out on Inspire. Signal comes through the headphones, but no signal in GB because the volume slider in track info is all the way to the left and grayed out.
    Ideas?
    Thanks!

  • After reinstalling, some of the songs in my library have 'get info' greyed out

This is really bizarre and getting me really frustrated. Like so many other people apparently tonight I got a notice to update and it screwed up iTunes. So I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes. I made sure that I saved my library beforehand and reinstalled iTunes exactly where it used to be, which is D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. Media folder has not changed, it is under my iTunes program folder in D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes Media.
After I reinstalled, I copied back my library file iTunes Library.itl, the Album Artwork and CD configuration folders in D:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. Then I held the Shift key, restarted iTunes, selected my library file, and I was happy to see my library open again (and iTunes was working). All my settings have apparently been kept, including my Apple ID, CD import settings, etc...
But what has changed however is that some tracks (but not all, which is weird) are now apparently 'locked', meaning if I select a song and do "get info" all the information is greyed out and cannot be edited. But it's not all tracks. A lot of tracks are fine and normal. Even weirder, sometimes it's tracks from the same album that are mixed: so within an album, I can edit some tracks, and not others, info is greyed out.
This is really puzzling me and really ticking me off at the same time. It was working just fine last night. And now... my account has admin rights. I run Windows 7 64 bits, iTunes is 64 bits 11.1.4.62.
Even weirder: some tracks that 5 minutes ago were greyed out are now OK. ??? Could it be that it takes a while for iTunes to scan everything again and make everything available for editing? My library is rather big (150 gigs)... Can anybody help? Thanks very much in advance.

You need to find the file you want associated with that track.  It should be in a logical structure in your Media folder.  If you don't know how to find files or navigate the directories on your computer ask the IT person.  Once you have found the file iTunes may ask if you want it to find others, and if you're lucky it can.

    After the installation

  • How to get rid of grayed out songs on iOS devices?

I keep getting these grayed out songs on my iPod, that have the round circle in the far left column, that means the song is trying to download or sync.
The song stays that way, and I can't delete it, either. in my iTunes library, I have tried making an AAC version of the song, and then dragging that into my iPod, and everything looks OK. But then the grayed out song with the round circle shows up again.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Grayed out "No Service" on Safari icon sending email link

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, I get a grayed out "No Service" message when I click on my email icon link (square box with arrow point up) on Safari. I am on a website, say Apple store, and I want to email the page or link to someone to show them a product. Is there a setting I should adjust to activate this feature, please? Many thanks.

  • Installing new software - password area grayed out? HELP

I am attempting to install new software on my mac. I have Network Administrative Rights, and when I click on the lock in the lower corner under system preferences\Accounts I get a grayed out login area and it will not accept passwords...Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you set up a Mac, it lets you choose which password you want to use, and it is not your Apple ID password.
First of all, try resetting the user account password with your Apple ID > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
If it does not work, you need to reset the password through OS X Recovery > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101

  • Get Info--Info Tab--All information is grayed out....can't change anything

In iTunes, right click on a song in the library, click on Get Info, click on Info, All information is grayed out and cannot be accessed and/or changed. Question: How do I correct this situation? I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes to no avail. I am on a PC with Windows 7.

Hi, I'm just brand new to the forum and Itunes and had the same issue with an album I had imported (no track or album info)and likeyrself could not get the Advanced "get track name" as it was greyed out.
After a lot of searching on this forum, with no luck, I changed the VIEW mode from GRID to LIST and then bingo, the option ("get track name") was no longer greyed out!!
    Hope this helps. Cheers Dennisg
PS: As a first time user, I'm fast becoming UNHAPPY - I imported a Rod Stuart album and the Bloody Itunes made 4 albums out of the one, because he sang a few duets - HOw silly is that!!

  • Get Info iTunes items grayed out

I just recently transfered my iTunes library from a PC (running XP) to a Mac Mini. Some of the songs had artwork, while most did not.
When I access the library on the Mini and select a song using "Get Info," the tabs at the top of the window (Summary, Info, Video, Sorting, Options, Artwork) are only partially available to me. Video is grayed out (not surprising since it's an audio file). "Options" and "Artwork" are also grayed out. I have also tried to import album artwork but the box in the lower left hand corner says "not modifiable."
Not only that, if I click on "Info" I do not have the option to modify any of the song information. It won't let me delete or add to.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just a guess, but it could be a permissions problem. Navigate to your iTunes Music Folder thru the Finder, do Get Info (command + i) and see if you have Read and Write permissions on the folder AND click the button that says Details and make sure that Read and Write is Applied to the Enclosed Folders. You might also try repairing permissions in Disk Utility.
Also...do you have Admin privileges on your user account on the Mac?

  • When I download a movie from iTunes the cover art disappears. I try get info and add the art, it doesn't show up. So it's just gray. It opens and plays fine. Apple can't figure it out. It's an nas drive. When I use a firewire drive I get the art

When I download movies from iTunes to my NAS drive, I don't get the cover art. It shows up while its downloading, but when it's finish it disappears. If it has an iTunes extra the cover art is there. I tried get info and add the cover art, it never shows. Regardless of how I add it. Funny thing is, if I download the same movie to my external firewire drive, no problem its there. I've called Apple with no success. I've even tried copying the movie with the art from the firewire drive to replace the file on then NAS drive I still loose the movie cover art. I also tried several times to re download it, no luck. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas.

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

  • I can no longer select "get info" it is grayed out

Since upgrading to iTunes 11, most of my genres, song titles, etc. have been changed, and I cannot select "get info" to change them back.

    HI,
This may depend on which version of iChat we are talking about
Up and until iChat 4.x.x the OS had a System Preferences > Quicktime pane
The Streaming setting in here needs to be at 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN (the Automatic and LAN/Intranet don't always work properly).
You may not have enough internet Speed.
http://www.speedtest.net/  This will measure Upload and Download speed (Based on what your computer can "See" of your Bandwidth if your connection is shared)
The Upload is often Lower and is the controlling factor.
It needs to be at least 256kbps (often reported as 0.256Mbps)
Your OS may have "Lost Contact" with the camera
Check in other apps to see if the camera works .

I accidentally quit my CC on my Macbook pro and now the cloud icon is grayed out and every time I hover over it with the mouse I get the spinning beach ball of death on the icon. I have no idea how to open it because when I use spotlight search to open it it gives me a message saying "Creative Cloud is not open anymore" help!

Since you didn't include any pertinent info such as the Mac model and OS version you are running, here is some general information:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Depending on which OS yours came with originally - and which OS you are now running - you would either need your original install disks - you can call Apple for replacements by giving them your serial number. Or you may be able to reinstall the OS by using recovery (again, depends on which model/which OS).

I ran into the same problem, I think that, If you tab on a song that is on your IPOD, and the song data is grayed-out, I think it means that the song is probably twice on your IPOD and that the iTunes directory can not edit THAT song data for two (or more) files @once. Check if this is the case, sinceI have the same problem,am looking for a way to have One and the same song in more playlists but only keep the song once on the IPOD.
