"Get Info" no longer works?

My old computer crashed a few weeks back. Luckily, I had all my itunes music on my external hard drive. I got a new laptop today and downloaded the newest version of itunes. I dragged the itunes music files from my hard drive to itunes. They showed up fine, but I'm not able to edit any of the songs using the get info feature. The blanks are all greyed out and don't allow changes. I'm just trying to change some songs to compliations so I don't get multiple artwork. It worked fine on my old computer. Am I doing something wrong?

Find one of those "greyed out" songs on the exHD.
Right-click > Properties
The "Read Only" box should be blank.
edit: Or you could just right-click > properties on the exHD drive letter, and set everything to non read-only at once. Just make sure that box isn't checked.
Read-only tells Windows that no changes can be made to that file.

Audiobook "get info" no longer works - itunes treats my audiobooks as music

Get Info no longer works in iTunes store?

Whilst browsing in the iTunes store I often like to 'Get Info" on the tracks im looking at to see the songwriters and other info. Having just upgraded to iTunes 9 it appears that that function is no longer available (unless you actually buy the track and look at it in the normal Library window). Does anyone know whether this is the case or am I just missing something??

Spotlight Get Info Button Not Working

Hi,
I see some older posts asking about the "get info" button in Spotlight but no solutions.
It used to work for me also, but no longer is working.
Does anyone know of a solution?

Hi, I have no idea what a Spotlight Get Info button is, since the 1st thing I do with a new computer or install is to permanently disable Spotlight, I use EasyFind, as Spotlight isn't reliable or helpful to me...

Try to update iTunes.
Or - Remove iTunes from your system, download from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And install.
In simple words (reinstall iTunes)
i guess you have updated Yosemite not clean install.
Anyway, for me updates not worked 100% stable. i always do clean install and this is the best way to go, only problem is that there are no official way from apple to make a bootable drive - all the time this is big problem...

Unlockable file and 'Get Info' doesn't work

I have a file from an existing external hard drive that I brought over to my new Mac Mini. I can not delete or unlock this file. When I do a Command I (get info) the finder/desktop just flashes and no menu comes up. Therefore I can't uncheck the 'locked' box. I can't move it to the trash either.
The file is a Shockwave Plugin from OS 9 (ShockwavePlugin.class). I'm on a Mac Mini core duo, running 10.4.7
I've searched everywhere on here and can't seem to find a solution. I even tried using TextEdit and saving a new file with the same name as the locked file (to replace it) and TextEdit won't allow me as it says the file needs to end in ".rtf"

First off, thank you for such a quick reply.
I just tried doing what you suggested, hit run, and then in the bottom of the menue (below in the window where I pasted what you said to run) it says 'false'
I then tried to move the file to the trash and it won;t allow me. The eror message I get says "the operation cannot be completed because the item "ShockwavePlugin.class" is locked.
Does this tell you anything more?

Clean Install System 8.5 - Desktop Menu and Get Info??

I'm helping an older lady with a clean install of system 8.5, upgrading from 7.5.3. on a 6214CD Performa. (I'm mostly using 7.6). To my suprise, with the full install (not custom), I'm not seeing several things in the Desktop Pull down menu - like for example Get Info, and some things under Views. Further the keystrokes I've used for 15 years like Apple "I" for "get info" don't work. What am I missing?
Secondly, I lost access to one partition on an external back-up hard drive by accidently using a 68k Disk Tools vs the new Disk Tools for 8.5 and the 603e processor. My question is, can I "initialize" only ONE partition or will Initialize attempt to re-do the whole SCSI hard drive, and go into the partitioning thing again?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
I'm not seeing several things....
Look in Finder's Preferences - it may be under the Edit menu when Finder is active, or in one of the control panels (it's been a long time since I was in OS 8.anything). Locate an item named Simple Finder, and uncheck it. The change should be immediate.
Can't help with the Disk Tools question, at least not directly...
Try running Drive Setup (or the OS 8 equivalent - can't recall its name - HD Setup?). If you can see and select that partition, you should be able to select either Mount Volume and/or Update Driver from one of its menus (the Functions menu in Drive Setup). Neither of those functions is destructive, and one or the other, or both, may be able to recover the ability to mount and access the partition.

Option Click Get Info for Old GUI?

The new GUI for Get Info in iTunes 12 is not only incredibly lacking but also an insult to long time iTunes users.
It makes the most simple of tasks become incredibly laborious.
For starters I am trying to add the "track x of x" field and cannot for the life of me find where to add that field to the new GUI.
Secondly, adding album artwork is ridiculous. I either have to scan the cover of my CD I just ripped or search the internet for the image, download it to my computer then upload it into iTunes? For real? lol.
So I googled and found many others like me questioning how iTunes 12 even came to be.... and they had a simple trick to bring back the old Get Info GUI. Simply hold down the option key as you click "Get Info."
That worked for a day or so. Now it doesn't work any more. I didn't update any software since it worked the first time.
Can someone please let me know what I am doing wrong. I simply want to use the old Get Info GUI rather than being forced to succumb to the major disaster iTunes 12 has turned out to be.

IPTC Metadata not appearing in 'Get Info' - exported JPG?

I've just exported a bunch of images (versions) from Aperture to JPG. I have selected 'Include Metadata' and yet when I open the image and select 'Get Info' the only info being displayed is the info of least importance (to me, with these images), such as device name, colour space, focal length etc etc. None of the IMPORTANT information such as copyright and author etc are there?? I would expect / hope this info to be embedded so that anyone viewing on either a PC or Mac would see it, not exposure and device related information which is the last thing I'm worried about them getting.
If I drag the image back into Aperture all the relevant info is there but the vast majority of people are not going to be opening JPGs they get supplied with in programmes like Aperture. At best you might expect them to use 'Properties' or 'Get Info' on a Mac.
Am I doing something wrong or is this another 'Feature' of ML??? If it is a 'feature' is there a way to actually have Aperture append USEFUL metadata information to JPGs on export, such trivial matters as copyright and terms of use etc.?

I just tried Preview (which being mostly full time on Aperture I've never used beyond a quick look at an image on the desktop), the info is there, so that's good to know. But you still have to dig for it. My preference would be to get something up in the basic tools such as Get Info. Previously, I'm sure I've had JPGs where the info has shown up in Get Info, how long back I don't know. But my memory MAY be playing tricks.
I am actually relcutant to trash Aperture due to it's management capabilities and it suits for the limited amount of adjustments I ever do, relying on Nik Software for the rest. BUT I may consider it if there is another application that does write the IPTC data in a way Get Info can read it. I'd hope to have copyright info flag up on any machine's 'quick look' application, be it Get Info on OS X or Properties on a Windows (I'll look later what comes up there, I rarely if ever use the Windows machine now). Maybe it's just impossible. I'm reluctant to add different applications to the workflow to achieve this, meta /exif tools etc. It's more to do, more things to keep updated, more things to break as OS X evolves etc etc.
in the meantime I have played with various fields in the IPTC data block and oddly, if I put the Copright - 'all rights reserved' text in the 'Instructions' it DOES show up in the 'Get Info' box and the 'Instructions' field is perhaps not too out of place to be seen displaying the copyright text and for me is preferable to editing such items as 'Device Info' to display copyright, which looks really odd and, IIRC, requires and EXIF adit tool. The 'Provider' field may be MORE appropriate but again, Get Info doesn't display entries in that field. Of course it means that anything that WILL display IPTC data correctly will have the copyright info twice, but I'd rather opt for that AND have copyright correctly displayed in Get Info. I'll check later if it displays using Windows 'Properties'.

"Get Info" function is very slow

I have a 24" iMac (2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB Ram) running 10.6.3. Anytime I select a file and choose "Get Info" from the right click menu, I get the dreaded spinning beach ball for approx 10 seconds before the file's info window is displayed. On this same computer using Leopard, the "get info" function always worked nearly instantaneously. Has anyone else experienced this or am I taking crazy pills?

Type get info and itunes closes

Whenever I click on "get info," iTunes closes. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but get the same result. This problem kind of crept up on me and I have no idea what caused the change. It worked fine until a couple of months ago, and except for not being able to access "get info" it still works fine. Anyone else manage to deal with this problem?

Imaq avi get info do not retrieve any info

Hi everyone,
I have some trouble with the vision VI IMAQ AVI get info,
everything was working well then I don't know what happened but the VI does not retrieve any information on any files, and I get the following error:
Error -1074395993 occurred at IMAQ AVI Open
Possible reason(s):
IMAQ Vision: File I/O error.
I need the framerate, Width, height and number of frame from this VI or else I cannot develop my application.
it only returns 0 on all values but the number of frames which is not correct 4294967295
I am thinking I might have broken the vision library.

Sorry for the multiple message,
I have found why it did not work it was not the imaq get file info but the IMAQ AVI Open VI that does not like the path string given by the open/Create/Replace File VI.
If you have any idea why it would be appreciated.

You are describing an iTunes problem, not an iPod touch problem. Try posing in the iTunes forum.

ITunes 10.5 and Get Info facility - no longer working?

Since I installed iTunes 10.5 last week, the Get Info facility for adding details of albums not on Gracenote doesn't work. The screen comes up as before but once you start typing iTunes crashes and quits.
Anyone else got this problem? Anyone solved it?
