Get Info or Command I does not work

I am dealing with several issues on my Imac 10.5.8. The latest is the failure of the "get info" function. When I select it by short cut or pull down menu, the screen flashes as though the finder is restarting. The window never comes up.
This issue is superimposed on my inability to rename files (which when I could see the get info I did have permission to do) and inability to type in itunes. This was limited to a single new user account but now affects a long standing account.
I have restarted, repaired disk and permissions, thrown out one of the com.apple.something files and tried a safe boot. Other ideas?
If I as to upgrade to 10.6 in this condition could it be a fiasco?

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark.
If that didn't help, check Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari.
If Extensions aren't the issue, reset Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

Shift-Command-R does not work anymore

Hello all,
I've noticed that the shortcut shift-command-r does not work anymore on my macbook pro. I used it for the calendar to refresh all calendars, and its also handy to open the reader in safari 5.
When I open the keyboard viewer from the language and text menu I can see it when I press shift, then command but when I press "R" nothing changes, only shift+command stay highlighted. Other letters do work, so its a bit strange.
Anyone know a solution for this?

Nope thats not the problem, the listening key is Esc. It is as if the keyboard does not register it when the R is pressed in combination with the shift and the command together. As I said, the keyboard viewer shows every keystroke except the shift-command-r combi.

Get/Set-NetQosPolicy with GPOs does not work

   I am trying to set the QoS policy in a GPO via P$; I am using the latest patched 2012R2 Windows P$. I have noticed that when you run the command and use the
switch -PolicyStore GPO:DOMAIN\GPONAME the command does not work. Bug ??
   If you type an incorrect/non-existant GPONAME the command returns an error correctly saying:
PS C:\> Get-NetQosPolicy -PolicyStore GPO:DOMAIN\GPONAME
Get-NetQosPolicy : Group policy object not found on domain controller.
   If however you enter an existing GPONAME, the command simply returns without giving any error or output (regardless of
whether or not the GPO has a policy in it).
   Further, if you try and set/new a policy in a GPO the command returns a very odd error:
PS C:\> new-netQoSPolicy -Name "TestPolicy" -IPProtocolMatchCondition TCP -DSCPValue 24 -Port 5067 -PolicyStore GPO:DOMAIN\GPONAME
new-netQoSPolicy : The system cannot find the file specified.
Any Ideas ? I know I can use the Set-GPPrefRegistryValue or Set-GPRegistryValue; but I was looking for a neater way of doing this.

Try " | get-member" to see if it returns anything...

Suppose that's ok - this cmdlet creates a QoS policy, but possibly is
not able to create the GPO that contains this QoS policy. So use new-gpo

Command "S" Does Not Work To Save Work In Any Application

Hi. For some reason that I haven't figured out yet, holding down the command key with "S" as the keyboard command shortcut does not activate the SAVE menu in Photoshop CS2 or MS Word. It used to work and of course the "S" key and command keys work fine in other keyboard commands except this one. I am using an iBook G4.
Does something have to be activated in preferences somewhere to fix this?
Anyone else have this glitch?

Hi Niel. Sure enough, I went into Speech sys preferences and Com + S was the keyboard shortcut. I changed it to an unrelated one. However when I went into PS CS2, I selected Com S and I got the Save As dialog box popup. I went into the Keyboard Shortcuts menu under Edit and Com + S was listed for Save and Save As was Com Shift S. I went ahead and deleted the Save As keyboard shortcut, but I'm still having trouble getting Com S to just Save. Of course I can do it with the mouse, but I would still like to use the correct key command. Any more ideas what might be going on?

Windows 7 Defrag from command line does not work

We are running Windows 7 in a virtualized environment. When running windows defrag using schedule or from command line, it does not work. The command that I am executing as administrator is
C:\Windows\system32>defrag /c

It displays the above message and exits back to the command prompt. However if I run the command defrag C: it does work. Defragmenting from the GUI works as well as long as both the disks (C: and System Reserved) are selected and when I click on
Defragment disks, works fine.
I am concerned about defrag running from the task scheduler with the command "defrag /c" (auto scheduled using Configure Schedule... from Disk Defragmenter) does not work and the system never gets defragmented automatically.
This happens only with some of the windows 7 VM's that we have.
There are no entries in Event Log that point to the defrag (using task scheduler). Any ideas what may be going on?

Could you defrag as below method:
1. Open Disk Defragmenter by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type
Disk Defragmenter, and then, in the list of results, click
Disk Defragmenter.
2.Under Current status, select the disk you want to defragment.
3.To determine if the disk needs to be defragmented or not, click Analyze disk. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Once Windows is finished analyzing the disk, you can check the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the
Last Run column. If the number is above 10%, you should defragment the disk.
4.Click Defragment disk. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Command+S does not work

When I am running any program in Snow Leopard (Word, Safari, Lightroom...etc) and I press command+S to Save it never works. Every other command works to Close, Quit or Save As but just Save does not work. It did not work also in Leopard before I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

you probably have some keyboard shortcut set somewhere that takes over command+s.
check your keyboard system preferences->keyboard shortcuts. if there is nothing there run the following terminal command and log out/in
rm ~/library/preferences/.Global*

Getting input from mouse-wheel: does not work under windows/IE

I have built an applet that extends JApplet. To it I have added a class that extends JPanel implements MouseListener, MouseWheelListener, MouseMotionListener.
I collect input using the method
public void mouseWheelMoved(MouseWheelEvent e){
do stuff...
I have build this on a mac and tested it in firefox and it works fine. But on xp/vista internet explorer, the applet does not respond to mousewheel input. On mac osx /safari it does not work either.
Is there any solution to this problem?

Just for luck, try setting the JPanel focusable.panel.setFocusable(true);If that doesn't make a difference, you need to post a [_Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)_|http://mindprod.com/jgloss/sscce.html] that clearly demonstrates your problem.

Command-I does not work!

I am running Mac OS 10.6.4. I bought this iMac brand new with 10.5 last year, installed Snow Leopard with the drop-in install DVD, and it has always had this strange quirk. Anytime I try to use the Command-I shortcut for "Get Info," it won't work. It doesn't work in Finder, iTunes, Safari...any application! My Command key is not broken, because all of the other shortcuts seem to work just fine (e.g. Command-S, Command-Q, etc.). The only one that doesn't work is Command-I.
I've scoured the internet but cannot find anyone with the same problem. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

No. Since the issue is specific to your original user account, you can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything on that other account's list from the original account's Preferences folder into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.

Command R does not work

the computer has two operating systems, Mac and windows. My Mac was OS lion mountain that I upgraded to Yosemite. I manged to damage both operating systems. after 3 days of work I fixed the window but no lock with Yosemite. I have tried everything as much as my knowledge let me. I am in a loop, the time machine runs into an issue that I cannot go further, the reinstall not possible since function "command + R" does no do anything and the other option out of four choices that I don't remember its name (my memory is not that good), I can only use the help function. when I restart the system when it is on window OS, Yosemite is not there to be one of the options. I can only go to yosemite if I insert the memory stick of back up, then I "option" function to enter the system but that is as far as it goes and only can ask for help out of those four options that Yosemite offers. I like to be able to go where system takes you through pressing "cammand + R" and reinstall the OS.

My command key does not work properly

I changed my left command key on my macbook pro to a different function. When I hit the left command button it responds by darkening the desktop background and then showing smaller versions of all the applications I have open. Similar to mission control but not quite mission control. I have searched around and cannot find a solution. I am running mac os x version 10.7.5 on my macbook pro. I have restored default funtion in the system perferences under mission control and keyboard shortcuts. I have zapped the pram. Is there anyone who has any suggestions to solve this issue? Anyone?

Go to System preferences on the Apple menu, then go to "International" pane in the system preferences pane.
Select Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer. Click "Show on the menu bar".
Now on the menu bar there is a flag, probably an American flag, click on it and select "Show Keyboard Viewer"
As you change the fonts or type you will see the kb acting dynamically.
Check back if it does not solve your problem.

Command Save does not work

I cannot save my document with the keyboard "Command Save".
File>Save is greyed out also.
The only way to save my changes is to either close the
document and choose save changes before quitting, or to close the
Foxfire preview, an reopen foxfire preview and save changes before
the preview comes up.
This is a real pain. How do I get "save" back?

I too am having a similar problem. For the past 6 months I've been working on the same site, but now starting today I can no longer save. When I go File > Save, the option is there, but nothing happens. When I press Ctrl+S, nothing happens. The only way to save is to close the tab and click "Yes" when it asks me to save or preview in browser and click "Yes" when it asks the same thing. Save As seems to work just fine.
Some help would be really nice if anyone knows what's going on..
P.S. I just got done installing some Windows updates, so I'm kind of suspicious that the cause of the error might be due to one of those updates...
Also, I should mention that I'm using Coldfusion 9.. and Dreamweaver CS4.
Hopfully the fact that this thread is 2 years old won't make it impossible for this question to be answered!

Left command key does not work

Hi all,
I have problems with my left command key. I have had my computer for 1 year now - the fan wasn't working so I reset the PRAM, didn't work so sent it to the Apple technicians who replaced the fan. Since then, I am unable to combine the left command key with any of the 3rd keyboard row keys such as "C", "V", "N" or "X". Consequently I cannot copy, paste or get a new window. It occurs with all applications. The right command key works fine. The top and middle keyboard rows work fine with the left command key. Is this a software problem or should I return it to the Apple technician?

Take it back. They either haven't got the keyboard connected in right when they put it back together, or there is problem with the keyboard itself.
