Get Info panel keeps disappearing below bottom edge of screen

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever experienced it . . . but after clicking on Get Info, the panel does appear, but within a nanosecond it slips below the bottom edge of my screen. No matter how rapidly I try to catch it, it always sleeps away just out of reach.
It was working properly earlier this morning, but started it's game of "catch me if you can" surreptitiously . . . first by moving to different locations on the screen each time I opened a new topic . . . and then by hiding beneath various open pages on my screen. (I know. My fault for having too much going on at one time. It's true. But who ever said neatness is a virtue for multi-taskers?
Before I knew it, I had the problem described above. I assume the fix is relatively easy; just wish I knew the secret. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Hi, never seen this problem before, but try dragging this file to the desktop then reboot...

  • Get Info Panel Information

    Hi All,
How can we get info panel characters count using indesign javascript. We can get characters count using below code:
    app.selection[0].characters.length
But if the document is xml document then it includes each xml tag as one character. I want to ignore these types of characters. Info panel ignores these types of characters in character count. So I want to get info panel characters count.
    Thanks & Regrads,
    Senthilvel

@Senthilvel – you could do a GREP find action on the selection with a simple dot and count the found characters.
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = ".";
    var myResultArray = app.selection[0].findGrep();
    var myLength = myResultArray.length;
    alert("Number of characters in text selection:"+"\r"+myLength);
    Any other implications?
I'd say, test this one first.

  • How to install custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC

Adobe changed their way they store the custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC. Check out this blog to see how you can install the XMP Get Info Panels that you used in Adobe Bridge CS6 in Adobe Bridge CC:
    http://www.databasepublish.com/blog/installing-custom-metadata-panels-and-get-info-panels- adobe-bridge-cc

Check your Bridge preferences.  It seems that you have the "Don't process images larger than…" option set to a lower amount than some of your files.
So, don't blame it on Bridge, but on the user who neglects that setting.

  • Get Info panel metadata all gone after upgrade to Yosemite!

Shortly after upgrading to Yosemite I discovered that all the metadata I had typed into the Get Info panel for a multitude of image files has been wiped out! Need less to say I'm ****** off. What happened and is there any way to recover this info? On a related note I also discovered that the field where you type info now behaves like a tag entry field, where typing a comma creates separate snippets of text. Whose brilliant idea was that? Is there a preference that can be reset so the field will accept text normally? Thanks.

I have the same problem, and no I haven't moved it.. but it's back to the default WIKI after the upgrade..
It seems there's the data in there.. a good 7-8 gig's worth, so I'm not thinking that's the default/empty data.
    There IS a
    Config
    Config.original
Actually.. I'm not sure about the exact wording cos I can't access the computer as Yosemite is hanging right now.. **** Yosemite, I'm never going there again...

  • How do I get the tab bar at the bottom of the screen (right above the task bar) WITHOUT Tab Mix Plus?

''locking - please stick with your original thread about this problem - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/934590''
I like having the tab bar at the bottom of the screen; I use the task bar AT THE BOTTOM to switch between programs, so I want the the tab bar AT THE BOTTOM to switch between web pages. The only way I've found to get the tab bar at the bottom of the screen is the extension Tab Mix Plus. I used it for a long time, and it worked great.
Unfortunately, when I recently updated to Firefox 14.0.1, I encountered an error: I could no longer middle-click on a link to open it in a new tab (which I do ALL the time). After some troubleshooting, I found that it was being caused by some incompatibility between Firefox 14.0.1 and Tab Mix Plus; upon removing Tab Mix Plus, my middle-clicking was back to normal.
But without Tab Mix Plus, I'm back to having the tab bar at the top of the screen. I've searched and searched, and I can't find anything besides Tab Mix Plus that will let me put the tab bar at the bottom of the screen. I've found tons of stuff about the option "tabs on top", but that has to do with putting the tab bar above/below the navigation bar--it's still at the top of the SCREEN either way.
    What can I do?

  • Disappearing info in the "Get Info" panel

When I select "get info" on a jpeg file using Mountain Lion, I am able to see all the "More Info" data, but if I come back to that same file after navigating away from it, all the data disappears? I was able to flawlessly recreate this scenerio with multiple jpeg files.
Here's where it gets even wierder. If I open that same file in Photoshop and select "File Info," the information is still there; however, after If I close the file and go back in the Finder the info comes back, but goes away as soon as I navigate away from it and come back to it.
    Hardware/Software:

    1,7GHz Core i5
    4Gig RAM

Please use bugreport.apple.com to file a bug describing the problem.
Here are the details on what I submitted. If you're seeing the same thing, please reference the Bug ID# 12156897.
Title: Finder Get Info... "More info" (spotlight info) disappears when reopened
    Summary:
The "More info" data is replaced with "--" after the first time it is viewed.
    Steps to Reproduce:
Make sure the boot volume has Spotlight enabled.
    Download some files using Safari.
In the Finder, navigate to the Download folder.
Command-I to get info on the downloaded files.
"More info" shows where the file was downloaded from.
    Close the Info dialog.
Use Command-I to reopen the Info window.
    Expected Results:
"More info" has the same data as before.
    Actual Results:
"More info" is replaced with "--" where it previously showed the download URL.
    Regression:
If you open the same containing folder (Downloads in this example) in a new Finder window, the first time Get Info is used, "More Info:" is correct. The second time or later, it is replaced with "--".

  • My keyboard keeps popping up in the middle of my screen instead of the bottom u keyboard keeps popping up in the middle of my screen instead of the bottom.  How can I get back to appear at the bottom of my screen?

My keyboard keeps popping up in he middle of my screen instead of at the bottom.  How can I fix this?

Press and hold the 'keyboard' key at the bottom right of the keyboard and after a second or so you should get a popup - slide your finger up to 'Dock' on that popup and remove your finger from the screen and the keyboard should move back to the bottom of the screen.
You can also turn off the ability to undock and split the keyboard into two halves via Settings > General > Keyboard > Split Keyboard 'off'

  • Can I stop the "get info" panel from jumping to the left of the screen?

I have a 24" screen and use "get info" a lot. Is there a way to make it default so it opens next to the finder instead of at the left border of the screen?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I think it will be a bit complicated to start messing with this default behavior and may ultimately end badly for you.
If you highlight a group of files and then press Command + "I" the resulting Get Info windows fan across the screen and then cascade down a level and continue fanning until all have opened.
This behavior is similar for a group of folders, if they all have the same permissions. If the folders have different permissions set the result is a multi object Get Info window.
Quite sophisticated, not a road I would want to go down.

  • Why does WIndows 7 OS taskbar disappear from bottom of the screen when in Firefox.

I have gone through all of the Mozilla steps for fixing the problem, such as Troubleshooting, Reset Firefox, going to Start Menu>Control Panel>Taskbar properties.
The thing is, on the "Taskbar appearance" tab, there is no box to click that says anything like "Keep taskbar on top of all screens."
I also have seen something about an .rdf(?) file. I have no idea where to find that...

I think your task bar setting is okay: it is not set to auto-hide.
Can you pull up the bottom of the Firefox window to above the task bar using this keyboard-based method:
While Firefox is active, press Alt+Spacebar to activate the window control menu. Press s to select Size, then down arrow once to select the bottom border, then up arrow repeatedly until the window clears the Task Bar, then press Enter to finish.
If Size is not available, your window may be maximized. Since you can't resize a maximized window, you may need to use the next method...
Here's the part about the RDF file: Sometimes the file that stores the positions and sizes of windows becomes corrupted. You can rename the file, but a side effect is that your toolbar customizations will be lost, as they are stored in the same file. If you want to try it:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Leaving that folder open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. You should have default windows sizes and positions.

  • I use MicroSoft Exch for my Co email. I cant make any changes to font, underline, bold letters. When I used IE I was at least able to do this. Also cant get a reading pane on the bottom of the screen, I have to open up each email to read

I do not see a tool bar on my webmail through MicroSoft Exchange. Therefore, I cannot use bullet points, italics, etc...in my mail. If this is not a feature through FF, then I will go back to using IE

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • Disk Utility Accident & Weird Symbol In Owner Name In Get Info

Recently, I was trying to troubleshoot some error messages I was getting with Carbon Copy Cloner, the source of which revolved around a mysterious file in my Shared folder. This file wouldn't delete no matter what I tried, so while searching for answers I heard that repairing permissions might help. Well, I forgot to read the message at the top of Disk Utility when I opened it. You know, the one that tells you that Disk Utility cannot repair permissions on a disk with open files or an on your current startup disk. Well, I ran disk utility without booting from the OS X install disk first. That probably explains why it made a bunch of changes to permissions.
Well, as I was about to close Disk Utility, I realized what I'd done, and I figured that it was no big deal. All I had to do was boot from the install disk and then run Disk Utility again, and it would repair the permissions the correct way. At least, that's what I thought. Then, when I did so, Disk Utility didn't make near as many changes as it did the first time. And, because I didn't realize until too late that I might need the output from the first time I ran Disk Utility in case something went wrong (i.e. I needed to undo any of the changes it made) I didn't even try to save it, if that is even possible.
Of course, this all didn't seem so bad. I thought that maybe the reason Disk Utility didn't make so many changes the second time was because some of the changes it made the first time really did need to be made, and thus that's why they weren't undone when I ran it again. However, I knew some thing was wrong when I tried to get info on a random file on my desktop just to verify that the owner was correct and everything. As soon as I either clicked or hovered over get info, I got the little rainbow spinning wheel for a second or two, which never happened before. Then, when I clicked the Ownership and Permissions triangle in the Get Info panel, I noticed something amiss. In the slot where the file's owner was supposed to be displayed, which should read "myusername(me)" the slot instead displayed some east asian character where my username should have been. So far, that, and a longer delay for the Get Info panel's appearance are my only symptoms, but I'm worried there may be further reaching repercussions to my system that I haven't discovered yet.
So, I guess what I'm asking is, based on my symptoms, can someone figure out what they think is wrong, and then possibly help me fix it. I don't know technical terms, but is it a corruption in the file that holds all the names of the users on my system? Is there a cache or preference file somewhere I can trash or edit to fix this. Or can I run fsck to fix this? Or, if it is a corrupted file like that I may have copy of it. I didn't mention it above, but Carbon Copy Cloner did manage to clone pretty much all of the folders on my hard drive in alphabetical order on an external firewire drive except for a few of the last few hidden folders and my Users folder.
Anyway, thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to read this post.

    Hi ailurous,
I run repair permissions all the time without first booting from the install disk. It works fine. On the other hand, attempting to Repair Disk without booting from the install disk will not work.
I'm thinking something other than faulty permissions is causing your problems..
That being said, I'd suggest booting off your install disk, running Disk Utility, and selecting First Aid>Repair Disk.
If it says that it couldn't repair the disk, just keep running it until it gives you the Disk Successfully Repaired message.
Let us know if this helps or if you get some error messages.

  • The info panel

    Hello everyone,
I use iCal a lot (in OS X 10.4.11) and have noticed that in 10.5 and 10.6 the 'permanent' info panel has disappeared.
Does anyone know if you can get it back?
I often need to see my entire month's calendar as well as the details of one specific event so having it is very useful.
    Cheers for any help.

    simon.goodwin,
Use iCal>Edit>Show Inspector to gain access to to the "Inspector" window.
