Get Info panel metadata all gone after upgrade to Yosemite!
Shortly after upgrading to Yosemite I discovered that all the metadata I had typed into the Get Info panel for a multitude of image files has been wiped out! Need less to say I'm ****** off. What happened and is there any way to recover this info? On a related note I also discovered that the field where you type info now behaves like a tag entry field, where typing a comma creates separate snippets of text. Whose brilliant idea was that? Is there a preference that can be reset so the field will accept text normally? Thanks.
I have the same problem, and no I haven't moved it.. but it's back to the default WIKI after the upgrade..
It seems there's the data in there.. a good 7-8 gig's worth, so I'm not thinking that's the default/empty data.
There IS a
Config
Config.original
Actually.. I'm not sure about the exact wording cos I can't access the computer as Yosemite is hanging right now.. **** Yosemite, I'm never going there again...

My iPhoto pictures are all gone after upgrade to Photos
Can anyone please help!!! All my pictures from iPhoto are all gone after upgraded to Photos tonight. Anyone know how I can recover them?
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library.
BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Windows 7 Partition Gone After upgrade to Yosemite
So as many people are experiencing after I upgraded to Yosemite I lost my windows Partition. Holding Cntl on boot shows no windows option to boot from. When going to disk utility on the mac side, the windows partition is still there but showing a weird name disk0s4. It is grayed out and I cannot touch it.
At this point I just want to salvage my data from that partition. Please tell me that is possible. I Created a new thread because I am really a complete noob with Macs and a lot of whats in the other threads is foreign language to me. So I need help step by step what to do and where to go.
I am hoping I can salvage all my important data, then just reformat the old windows partition.
Much appreciated for the help and input.I tried TeskDisk and from the very beginning it mentioned about being unable to modify my hard disk as below.
=========
Write access for this media is not available.
TestDisk won't be able to modify it.
- No partition from this disk must be mounted:
Open the Disk Utility (In Finder -> Application -> Utility folder)
and press Unmount button for each volume from this disk
- This media may be physically write-protected, check the jumpers.
==========
I tried the Disk Utility but of course I couldn't unmount the Macintosh HD partition while running on it.
Anyway, I still ran TestDisk to see if all partitions would be detected correctly. It seemed good, as captured below.
All the partitions were found. Then I chose MS Data partition, keyed P and Enter to check its filesystem.
The error message was same as described in the step by step guide you sent me.
The I went back and tried Deeper Search.
It run for hours any the analyse sector was strange at the end, something like more than 600,000,000/488,397,167. Sorry I forgot to capture this figure. However, I think Deeper Search is unnecessary if TestDisk can find all partitions.The problem is write access.
Regarding GPT FDisk (gdisk-0.8.10), after installing it I can't find where it is on my computer.
Do you have any recommendation please. -
ARD doesn't show all computers after upgrading to Yosemite
Yesterday I upgraded my Air to Yosemite and after that I have issues with Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.2, the issue is that I can't see all the other Mac clients we have in the office, I have reinstalled ARD to see if that solved the issue but no.
I also upgraded one of our iMacs to Yosemite which also have ARD installed (3.7.2) and it is the same issue on that one, we can see some of the clients but not all.
But the thing is that the clients I missing in my Airs ARD I can see in the iMacs ARD and vice versa, but I can't find that iMac in my ARD and it can't find my Air.
We are connected to the same netowrk and the same accesspoint.
Everything worked fine when we runned Mavericks.Hallo,
I have exactly the same problem. After installing (update) Yosemite on my (2013) iMac, the system doesn't properly shutdown anymore.
I have been waiting for hours, but nothing happens ... there is a black screen and a rotating thing ... and the only option to physically shut it down is to hold the power button
best regards,

Unable to print from iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite?
Whenever I want to print from iPhoto, the application on the IMac becomes unresponsive and will not print. This all started after upgrading to Yosemite. My printer is updated, so now I have no idea how to make this work again. Any help would be great.
DA2014 wrote:
Rebuilt iPhoto, it is updated, but still is unresponsive. I get the spinning wheel that never goes away until I force close the app. The printer works on other applications.
OK and I see the issue is only with iPhoto. The only thing I can think of is resetting the printing system and then re-installing the printer(s). DO NOT use any of the printer's software for installing, simply follow the directions for adding a printer in Mac Basics: Printing in OS X - Apple Support.
To reset the printing system, open System Preferences - Printers & Scanners - locate the device in the window on the left and right click the offending printer and select Reset Printing System....
After you have reset the printing system and re-added the device then shutdown (not restart) the computer for about 30 seconds and restart and then test. -

All bought titles and albums gone after upgrading I Tunes
Hi Guys,
unfortunately all my recently bought titles and albums from the I Tunes store are gone after upgrading to 10.7.0.21
Can somebody please help me?
Thanks you very much...
Best regards - GregEmpty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

How can I get my Iphotos to show as my screen saver please ? all disappeared after upgrading ...I have done as suggested and deleted all relevant files , but now am only left with the "Squirly " screen saver option in the drop down menu and no option for Iphoto library.
Slow, intermittent. Sometimes bootable sometime not. Odd behavior.
Sounds to me like a classic case of your HD failing.
Your SMART status may still show verified, with no errors on the Apple Hardware Test, Disk Utility shows no problems on Disk Repair- this is of no help.
I trust you have a good back-up and a bootable clone.

How to install custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC
Adobe changed their way they store the custom XMP Get Info Panels in Adobe Bridge CC. Check out this blog to see how you can install the XMP Get Info Panels that you used in Adobe Bridge CS6 in Adobe Bridge CC:
http://www.databasepublish.com/blog/installing-custom-metadata-panels-and-get-info-panels- adobe-bridge-ccCheck your Bridge preferences. It seems that you have the "Don't process images larger than…" option set to a lower amount than some of your files.
So, don't blame it on Bridge, but on the user who neglects that setting. -
Hi All,
How can we get info panel characters count using indesign javascript. We can get characters count using below code:
app.selection[0].characters.length
But if the document is xml document then it includes each xml tag as one character. I want to ignore these types of characters. Info panel ignores these types of characters in character count. So I want to get info panel characters count.
Thanks & Regrads,
Senthilvel@Senthilvel – you could do a GREP find action on the selection with a simple dot and count the found characters.
app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = ".";
var myResultArray = app.selection[0].findGrep();
var myLength = myResultArray.length;
alert("Number of characters in text selection:"+"\r"+myLength);
Any other implications?
I'd say, test this one first.

How do I get print n share to work after upgrade to iOS 5. I can print from the app thru wifi and PC. However am unable to print mail, web pages, etc..
In mail when I try to print it just says can,t find air printers. It used to say print with print n share.I sent e-mail to developer regarding this and they said that basically Apple has denied them access to the Airprint dialog in the new source code for iOS 5. So, the only way to print to pdf is to capture the e-mail or webpage in the internal apps within Print n Share. INHO, this really *****. Apple should make printing to pdf files just a standard feature of all their apps. If they don't do this, they are going to lose alot of business to the Adroid world as pdf file format is the business standard for all documents.

After Upgrade to Yosemite, all apps are slow.
I upgraded to Yosemite and all applications are slow. ( as e.g.. starting to type in this box give me beachball for 2 seconds initially) A big difference in speed from Mavericks to Yosemite. Opening system preferences takes 3 seconds to load, and clicking on Users & Groups takes 25 seconds to open.
I do not have fire vault enabled. I did a safe boot and some apps did appear to open faster. Also did a repair disk and rebooted. No change. When Safari is open it takes 5 seconds to open a new window. I ran EtreCheck and the report is as follows;
Thanks for any help;( After pasting the EtreCheck text file, I clicked on this box to add the Thanks... , it took 2-3 seconds for the beach ball to stop spinning.)

0 B Page-outsYou could do that, but when setting up your new iMac it is a much better idea to transfer only your existing User Accounts. In other words when Setup Assistant appears, de-select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" and "Other files and folders". That way you will eliminate the possibility of reinstalling potentially incompatible software from your existing Mac or its TM backup. It's best to create new printer queues and preferences anyway.
Your venerable HP 1012 will probably work without any difficulty but if you need its driver download it here. If it gives you trouble try OS X's generic PostScript driver.
After configuring your user account, install original versions of your essential software from their original sources. In other words if you installed them via download from the developer's website, download them again. You might need license keys so gather them. Obviously the Mac App Store makes things easy since anything you obtain from there is already linked to your Apple ID and is easily reinstalled by going to your Purchases page.
Don't reinstall things like AppCleaner, CleanMyMac, Western Digital "Smartware" or any of that junk. You don't need it. MacFUSE is outdated. Research Prolific Technology for potential updates for their serial controller. The one you have may work, or not, but you should re-download its driver.
Consider abandoning Microsoft altogether and migrating to better solutions such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. They are all free with a purchase of a new Mac and are far more integrated with OS X than anything Microsoft will ever be able to accomplish.
The Burr-Brown USB device is unknown to me, so research TI's website for support if you need it.
If your essential software was distributed on optical media, you can use OS X's "DVD or CD sharing" feature to remotely mount the older iMac's optical drive so that you can install its software. It will work as though that drive were physically installed on your new Mac. Having said that, anything that was distributed on optical media is highly likely to have been outdated a long time ago.
If your essential software is old, orphaned, no longer supported, or is no longer available, meaning you have the only viable copy, the only option is to transfer it from the TM backup or older Mac. In that case be very cognizant of the likelihood for incompatibility, and have a plan for uninstalling it should it cause adverse effects. Creating a new TM backup is the way to do that. A new external HD dedicated to the new Mac is a cheap investment. When you are certain you no longer require the older Mac's TM backup, you can erase it and use it as an additional, redundant TM backup or "clone" repository – whichever you decide is best for your backup needs. -

After upgrading to Yosemite and Aperture 3.6 all the library icons are shown plain. Does anyone has a hint?
If it is still slow after removing Symantec, you may need a RAM upgrade. Yosemite can run very poorly on older machines with only 4 GB RAM.

i have 10.6.8 and upgrading os to yesomite, should i reinstall my all softwares after upgrade os?
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install Yosemite, you need one of these Macs:
iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space
Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty here.
http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest version of Yosemite by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing OS X 10.10 Yosemite from the Mac App Store.
