Get Mac OS Recovery Disk

Hi,
I did something really stupid and now I am struggling to get back my Mac OS X. I have a 15 Inch Mac Book Pro with Retina Display Early 2013 Model. I came with OSX 10.8.2 Preinstalled. I never created a recovery disk or never took a backup using time machine.
What I have ended up doing is, I have rebuild my Mac with Windows 8.1 completely formatting the HD with NTFS and Now Using MBR. Can someone show me a way on how to get back my Mac OS on the system. I dont have any recovery disk with me.

Read this. Boot your Mac with CMD+R. If Recovery can't find a recovery partition it will automatically start Internet recovery, which requires a connection to the Internet. I'm not sure what will happen to your Windows installation. So you might want to make a backup of it first.

  • HT4848 Recovery HD (Mac) vs Recovery Disk (thumb drive)?

What is the difference between the Recovery Disk on the thumb drive and the Recovery HD on the Mac? In what situations would you use each one?

    On the computer itself:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Using the USB flash drive:
Insert USB drive into a USB port.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
Release the key when the boot manager appears.
Select the Recovery HD icon on the USB device.
Click on the arrow button below the icon.
    EDIT:
As Baltwo has suggested you can make a fully bootable Lion installer:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.
The catch here is you must have a copy of the Lion installer application. If you downloaded Lion from the App Store and installed it, then it was automatically deleted after the installation. That means you need to sign into the App Store while running Snow Leopard to redownload Lion for free.
If your computer came with Lion pre-installed then there is no obvious way to get the installer application needed. This will necessitate using the methods outlined in Downloading Hardware Specific Lion Installers to obtain the installer.

    Hello!
I have Satellite A300 with windows vista recovery disc and I want to upgrade to windows 7! how can I get one?
    how much does it costs?

    Hi
The upgrade is pretty easy: Just purchase a Microsoft update disk and then you can update Vista to Windows 7 Thats all!
But if you bought your notebook from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010 you can order a Windows 7 upgrade disk directly:

There are two ways to solve your problem:
You can order new copy of recovery DVD by nearest authorized service provider or
You can use original Microsoft installations DVD for clean Vista installation

  • Satellite M300 - Where can I get a recovery disk?

I have Satellite M300 and I need the recovery disc. My microsoft system crashed and I need to do a recovery.
    Can you help?

    Hey mate,
You can get a new recovery disk from an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest so please check this!!!
Alternative you install Windows from a Microsoft disk and then you can download all drivers on the Toshiba page. Then you have factory settings back too but its more complicated as the Toshiba disk.

  • HELP - Recovery disk needed but unavailable on this web site???

I need a recovery disk for my
    P35-S6291
where I had to replace the HDD due to failure.  Have original recovery cd but it does not work.
Searched this site but the order screen says it is not available after verifying serial number and product number.
    What now???  Please help!!!

Calling Toshiba Tech Support and Customer Support was useless... The answer I get is that recovery disk are handled by ACCLAIM and they cannot do anything... Just keep trying
So I used Window 7 I bought for my other laptop to restore my computer and now I have an issue with not having a valid key for my laptop.... I called Microsoft tech support and they told me to delete Window 7 from my laptop...
I take online classes and travel a lot due to my work. My laptop is my lifeline... Apparently no one at Toshiba or Microsoft give a crap about it... I being told to sit on my bottom with my thumb up you know where... Apparently this does not also qualify for me to take my laptop to authorize repair center... go figure...
If Toshiba have written code to give an option to restore to factory default under system restore like HP Laptops I would have never be in this predicament...
    PS.... I have 3 months old A505-36992
They do have an onboard recovery system similar to HP's.  If you had taken the time to read your User's Guide that came on your hard drive in Adobe Acrobat Format you would have known how to make your recovery disks as well as how to run the recovery process directly from the hard drive. All of that information begins on page 60.   Once you used the other Windows 7 disk to install Windows you lost the ability to do so.  Since you failed to do so the problem you are currently experiencing is self inflicted.
You can try downloading a Win 7 ISO from here and see if it will allow you ro use your product key from the bottom of the laptop.  It has worked for several people, but I don'g guarantee it.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Satellite P10: Need recovery disk after HDD crash

I've got a Toshiba p10 and the HD has crashed. I've had this machine for 2 years, but I bought it 2nd hand, therefore I don't have any system disks.
Where can I get a system recovery disk and is it true that the recovery disk will only work if I install the same size HD? The existing drive is 30g and I'd like to install a 40g drive instead.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi
No its not true. You can use a different HDD sizes and the recovery CD has nothing to do with HDD compatibility.
You should only be sure that the notebook and BIOS will recognize the new HDD size but I think the 40GB are supported on this notebook.
So if you put a new HDD into the notebook you have only to boot up from the CD drive.
In my knowledge the recovery CD and every supported and compatible device you can purchase from the Toshiba service partner in your country.
I found the link on the Toshiba support page so I recommend visiting this site.
    Good luck

  • When I erase had drive, do I also erase the recovery disk?

Using Mavericks and need to erase disk because it is sold. When I hold down option key, it shoes the CCC clone which is the temp boot drive and its recovery disk. It also show the Mac and recovery disk.
I have to install 10.6 on this and want to find out if I erase both of the10.9 disks, HD and Recovery and if so, what order?
    Thanks,
    Don

You must repartition the drive in order to remove the Recovery HD. Do the following:
What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • I'm trying to re-install mountain lion 19.8.2 from a recovery disk and get an error when it's trying to verify my computer with Apple, any idea what's wrong?

I'm trying to reinstall mountain lion 10.8.2 from a recovery disk and I get the following error when I goes to verify my computer with apple,
An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again. Can anyone help?

Well, I'm trying to figure out how you're doing this from a recovery disk. The only way to reinstall Mountain Lion is through the Recovery HD in the computer. Hold Cmd/R as you are starting up the computer and keep holding it. Eventually you'll get a screen asking you to select the language. Hit continue to select english and you'll get a Mac OS X Utilities Menu with the second option down being reinstall OS X.

Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.

The very first MacBook 1,1s can actually run 10.6, which is updatable to 10.6.8, but will only run in 32 bit mode on yours.

searching to purchase mac os x 10.8.3 mountain lion recovery disk.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want to purchase Mountain Lion in a USB drive or DVD, it's only available in the App Store, so you can't get it in a DVD or USB drive. However, after purchasing and downloading it, you can create a OS X Mountain Lion bootable DVD or USB drive with Lion Diskmaker > http://liondiskmaker.com

  • How can I get Lion re installed after crash and no recovery disk?

I bought Lion some time ago I did not do a recovery disk and now I had a huge crash. I started over with Snow Leopard cause that's all I had. How can I get Lion re installed?

Make sure you're up to 10.6.8 through Software Updates, and then re-download Lion from the App Store.
Incidentally, many Macs (from 2010 models onwards) have the ability to run Internet Recovery, even if your original hard drive crashed, which will allow you to re-download and install Lion directly from the internet.
But the best way is always to have a local backup of your system drive.

  • OS 10.8.5 update failed, now can't get past recovery disk

I ran the latest OS10.8.5 update on an old iMac (circa 2009) and left the computer while it was running. When I returned there was a message saying the update could not be installed, and a prompt to restart the iMac.  On restart it went straight to recovery mode.   Disk Utility fixed several permission problems, which seemed to be iTunes related, but Verify/Repair Disk showed no issues with the hard drive (500Gb, with about 64Gb available).  When I try to reinstall the OS I get past the Apple ID log-in prompts and the installation begins, but then it just returns to the recovery screen after a few minutes.  Finally, I tried to return to the pre-update posotion via Time Machine, but an error came up saying something like "Time Machine can't access your hard drive."   Each reboot just returns me to the recovery disk. I'd be grateful for any suggestions as this is looking rather scary.  Thanks

The boot drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
