Get MacOS Software.  Your Syhstem Settings are being upgraded.

When I press the Apple on the far left upper corner, I get the following Error Message:
Get Mac OS Sofware. Your system setings are being updated. Unable to open your preferred browser; Try again in a few minutes.
I have had this problem for more than ten hours, even after re-booting. I don't have any software loading issues that I know of.
Does anyone have any hint?

There may be some system corruption issues; and if Disk Utility,
booted from the OS X Installer disc and run from there, can't fix
re: 'repair disk' or 'repair disk permissions' you may have to go
as far as consider an "Archive and Install", and update.
If there is enough free space on the hard disk drive to put a new
system folder on there, in addition to whatever else already is,
and the hard disk drive is not corrupted at some low-level; an
archive and install should save your work, and if you select the
installer to save your old settings and user information, that would
be carried over to the new System folder. After some time, and if
things go OK, you could trash the old Previous System folder.
Can you start the computer up in SafeBoot, then use the computer's
Disk Utility to 'repair disk permissions' then quit the utility, and restart?
Does the issue change, or if you do these basic repairs, stay messed?
The situation you describe is not anything I've seen in the Mac OSX.
I'd recommend trying to save what you can and work on wiping out
the hard disk drive at some point, having the booted installer's Disk
Utility over-write the drive with Zeros, then reformat to HFS+, and
do an all new installation and full update, from scratch. Totally new.
And that would let you know if the hard disk drive is messing up, too.
The SMART status should give you some idea of the drive health;
and on one of the included discs with the computer, you have an option
of running the computer in the Apple Hardware Test...
Good luck & happy computing!

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then.
    Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Does anyone know how to solve this tiresome problem, please!?? The update is downloaded upto 723.5MB, and is required upto 723,6MB, then the error message pops out! Tnx.

I have a quick wifi connection (Mac shows it as about 35 megabits) but I couldn't get the 5.0.1 OTA to work, I had to do it via cable to my computer's iTunes - and as I was already on iOS 5 it was only a small download, basically the same size as the OTA size.
As the original poster is talking about a 730 meg download then I assume that they are still on iOS 4.3.5 or below and can therefore only download via their computer's iTunes - you need to be on iOS 5+ before you get the OTA option.

  • Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later; Have been trying to fix for ages.

Hi Everyone, been struggling all day to restore my settings on my ipod, as my little brother has put a restriction password in place and made me not able to get into Safari, iTunes, Camera which I really need. I have tried everything, resetting my proxy settings, turning off the firewall, changing my network location, ran diagnostics. Everything seems fine on that, I post below my results. I also tried restoring from the device, but with the restrictions code in place I can not do so. And everytime I am dowloading the software update before the restore it comes up with 'Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later'. I have been using google for ages and am not sure what I have missed.
I am using Windows 7 with an Acer Notebook.

  • System settings are being updated??

I bought an eMac from a friend of my husband's, and there wasn't the Safari icon to connect to the internet.  So, I clicked on the apple icon at the top left of the screen, then clicked on Mac OS X, and it would usually open up the internet browser and I could surf the web from there.  Well, my husband was messing around with the computer to try and figure things out, and now when I click on that same thing a gray box pops up in the middle of the screen and says that my system settings are being updated and it's unable to open my preferred web browser and I need to try again in a few minutes.  This started last night, so it's been well over 24 hours, as we let it set there thinking it just wasn't finished updating.  How do I get rid of that?

    Hello Mrs. Long,
Did you get the 10.4 Install Discs with it? If so power down, hold mouse button down at power on to open the tray & inset Install Disc, hold Option/alt key at same time to bring up the Startup manager so you can choose the Install Disk to boot from.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

I am trying to sync my Ipod Nano (6th Generation).  I am trying to sync my Nike+ workouts, when I click "automatically send workouts" and "apply".  It freezes.  I have to restart my computer.  When I also try to make sure I have the latest Itues updates, I get a message "make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active".  My main question is, I want to upload my Nike+ workouts.  I have an account with Nike+, and have 3 workouts waiting to be uploaded it indicates.

Itunes could not connect to itunes store.  The network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, and try again.

Have you disabled any firewall and security/antivirus programs?  This seems to have helped the vast majority of people who have posted the same problem in this forum.

I am having similar issues except that the store starts to load, then stops, then I only get iTunes Store in gray letters on a white screen. I can access playlist and the other stuff. Like flamesgirl, I contacted them and they just keep sending me links of stuff to try which I had already seen on the Apple website and nothing works. I posted the question on another forum I belong to and one responder said her husband was in an Apple store and asked about this problem as he was having the same issue. They said an update would be coming out soon as they were aware of the problem. Who knows.

Are yo getting a network timeout error?
Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.
