Get Mail Server Erro

When I click on "Get Mail"I always get a server error the first time. "Connection to host etc etc port 995 failed." It always connects on the second click. Any suggestions? Help? It also happens when I use Thunderbird.

You really haven't given us enough information to work with, such as the name of the email provider, and current settings of your account.
Did you check to be sure that "Use SSL" is checked for Port 995 and that you have it set for Password Authentication? Check your settings against what your email provider told you to be sure everything is correct.

Have you tried deleting the account and re-adding it on the phone?
What version of Exchange server are you running?

I get "mail server does not recognize your Apple ID and password" when I try to share a picture via email in iPhoto. My iCloud email works ok otherwise. I have check all mail settings for ID and password.

In the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete the account and re-enter it - sometimes that resolves this
Or IMHO the best long term solution is to set Apple Mail as the iPhoto e-mail client in the iPhoto preferences and use it - it has a number of advatages and has fewer problems

It might be worth a shot to reset your router first. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again. Or try any other WiFi network and see what happens.

i had to manually put in the correct email. I wanted to register a hotmail account but since it was giving me that response, I researched this issue. Finally, I found out some specifics and gave it a try. The post said to Go to Add email and Click Other. My email is a live account... I needed to type::
host name: outlook.com
SMTP (Outgoing mail server): stmp.live.com
Server port as 995
When I put all of that in, it worked. Hope that helps!

Cannot get mail, server unavailable error message n my Yahoo account only, but not on others

Although I have no problem getting hotmail and other yahoo account messages, my PRIMARY email account has been returning an error message "Cannot get mail, server unavailable". But my server is working just fine for everything else except my main yahoo account. Could anyone shed some light on this for me? Thank you all!!

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Get mail server responded:5.1.0 when sending email

When sending/forwarding most emails (Thunderbird 31.3.0 Windows 7) I get the following error message. " An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.0 charterdotnet does not exist E2110. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again." I have verified the accuracy of preferences. Thanking you in advance. Dottie

A relaying error usually is sent by the respective mail server and isn't a Thunderbird problem.
If you use both mail accounts with Thunderbird, including the other mail account you mentioned, you may just apply the SMTP settings of the account that works to the one that doesn't, no need to replicate otherwise:
Account Setting > Outgoing Server SMTP (bottom) > choose seetings from dropdown
Note however that when using an SMTP server that is not the one set up by your ISP, generally you need to authenticate when using it, i. e. in
Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP) > Edit
where you should check if you have set an authentication method with user name. Many mail providers require SMTP (outgoing mail) authentication anyway.
PS: allow me to note that e-mail addresses should not be quoted fully in forums (spam, privacy), you may want to remove/obfuscate it yet.

Could anyone tell me how to get a mail server to resend a message. I occasionally get messages that seem to be corrupt and would like to have them resent to my inbox in hopes they will be received correctly. I have another mail account (AOL) where the messages seem to come through as expected. I want to quit using AOL but not until I have confidence in Mail

When Forwarding an Email as an Attachment do this simple step before forwarding:
With the suspect mail selected:
1. Hit CMD-SHIFT-H to reveal the header information,
2. Then Foraward as an Attachment and the header information will be included.
I just tried this with 5 different mails and when you double click the icon of the attached mail that resides on your forwarding mail, you can reveal the complete original header information of the suspect mail - it is identical to the original - word for word.
Perhaps when you just Forward as an Attachment without opening the header first you might lose that data, but if you follow the steps above, it works fine.
I should add that this works on the Mac, not sure about iPad.

my iphone comes up with an error message that says "cannot get mail. the connection to the server failed", i always press ok. then the iphone says that my email "password incorrect" when I know it is not incorrect. i have typed the right one multiple times but i am not able to get mail for this certain email address. it is a windows live (hotmail) account. I have another gmail account that is working fine so far. i have tried all the trouble shoot tutorials on the apple website, nothing worked yet.... Please help!

I made the following DNS entries at DYNDNS (custom dns) because i have a dynamic ip adres:

In my router all ports for mail are automaticly configured by my TIme Capsule and i have double checked them. And in server admin i have the following settings for mail:

mail is a trickier than that.
do you have DNS working ?
do you have a Globally unique or NATed address from your ISP ?
Is there a DNS MX record pointing to that IP for your domain.
is your domain registered.
if you've answered yes to all of these. go to your log folder and tail your logs.
tail -f /var/log/mail.log
also postconf -n , and post it.
if your running a mail server the gui is nice for simple things. but managing the system with take some use of the terminal.

I have this question too! I updated my Iphone iOS software last night and this morning, I cannot access my mail as it says that I cannot connect to the server. On both my Iphone and Macbook, when I open mail- it says that the server rejected my password for ICloud. I can also log in to ICloud online, so I know that it isn't my password- HOWEVER, when I try to access mail through the cloud online, it tells me that it is unable to obtain my mail. Exchange synchronises all folders but Inbox error Cannot Get Mail Server Error!

Initially I lost the inbox of my IPad running IOS 5 with my iPhone 4GS continuing to sync with my Exchange Server 2007 however changing mail setting on my phone has now stopped that working as well and I now have lost access to remote mail altogether.
I can still send mails from my Ipad and Iphone though if I send to myself they do not appear in the inbox but do appear in the Sent items.
If I delete mails they appear in deleted items
I have upgraded my IPad 3 to IOS 6 which has not changed anything. I have also tried an IPad 2 and that does not like my mailbox either. Tonight I created a new user on the server and sent mail to that mailbox. I set the settings on the IPad and the Inbox and other folders worked with no issues.
This problem started 2 weeks ago and before that I have never had problems with IOS devices syncing mail from my Exchange 2007 server.
My wife has a IPad 2 that links to the same Exchange Server and she has experienced none of these problems.
Any pointers on this would be most appreciated.

OK, we fixed my boss' iPad issue. We are using Exchange 2010. Somehow, there was an issue with the device association in his Exchange account. We had to remove the device association from his Exchange account, delete the account from his iPad, then re-add the account.. He is now syncing again.
You may be able to remove the device association in OWA. Let us know if this works for you.
As to the cause of the issue, it is still unknown.

After down loading the latest up dates, I am now getting a pop up that says can't get e mail server stopped working, how can I stop this pop u.

After the latest ISO 8.3 down load to my, I now keep getting a pop up saying can't gette mail server stopped working, I am still receiving e mail so I know it working, it's just annoying having to cancel this pop up, any ideas how to stop this pop up.
