GET NAME OF BOX - applescript studio question

I do not want to name each or care about the specific ID for each box so
I am trying to find a method for getting the
name or id of a box based "on clicked theObject"
on clicked theObject
-------this is where i need help
     set currbox to name of box container of theObject as string
     tell window "main"
          tell box currbox
               set x to (the contents of text field "conmeth") & ¬
                    "://" & ¬
                    (the contents of text field "usr") & ¬
                    ":" & ¬
                    (the contents of text field "pazz") & ¬
                    "@" & ¬
                    (the contents of text field "addy") & ¬
                    "/" & ¬
                    (the contents of text field "vol")
          end tell
     end tell
     try
          mount volume x
     end try
end clicked

A further hint (tested on firefox version 35 and 36):
In the script, application 'Firefox' gets replaced by 'plugin-container' when compiling the script !!!

  • Localize the name of AppleScript Studio application

    Hi,
    How to localize the name of an AppleScript Studio application (Xcode 2.4.1) ?
    I have found the solution in the developer doc, but nothing...
    - I have added CFBundleName in every InfoPlist.strings file (with and without the CFBundleName property in the Info.plist file)
    - I have added CFBundleExecutable in every InfoPlist.strings file (with and without the CFBundleExecutable property in the Info.plist file)
    - I have tried to make localizable the Info.plist file, modifying the CFBundleName and CFBundleExecutable property of every localization
    Of course, I have run "Clean All" between each operation...
    Thanks by advance, CU

    Solution...
    In Info.plist file:
    - The CFBundleName property must have a unique name
    - Add the LSHasLocalizedDisplayName key with string "YES"
    In every InfoPlist.strings file:
    - Add a CFBundleDisplayName property with localized name
    - Add a CFBundleName property with localized name (for the application menu)

  • I keep getting the little blue box with the question mark

    Hi
    I have 10.6.7 system software and my safari is 5.0.4
    I have called apple twice with this problem already but nothing has helped except for short times.
    I have reset safari about one dozen times and when I do I reset the top 7 items and I've emptied the cache in addition just in case. I've also taken my safari preference plist out of my library and trashed it.
    And I've run disk utilities many times and restarted my computer. Each thing I do will solve the problem for a short time, even up to a day or more (or less) but then it comes back. For instance on Facebook maybe 1/8th of the thumbnail images have the little blue boxes with the question marks but most don't. I can't figure it out. Sometimes even the iPAD safari gets them too but my firefox doesn't show them and neither does Safari on my eMac.
    Yesterday the question marks even showed up in ONE mailing on all 3 computers with the question marks in the blue boxes (meaning my iMac, my eMac and my iPad) but then it just all resolved after a few hours. This does sound like possibly a server problem except today it's happening (in Safari again) only on this iMac in Safari (not firefox) and not on the other two devices.
    One more thing, since they changed my radio on the roof for my wireless internet, the 5.8 phone cuts out the internet when I use it. The problem has gotten worse since they changed the radio to the same frequency as the phone, it's a much faster service than the 2.4 radio. I don't know if this is related or not.
    Thank you,
    Martha

    <Contact your ISP.
    Is it possible, Carolyn, that this would mainly and almost always be only affecting the iMac and Safari in the iMac if it were a server issue? Right now Safari has more blue boxes with question marks than ever and the eMac and iPad have none. Firefox on the iMac has none also.
    I should try a direct connection and by pass the router and see if that makes a difference.
    I will contact them tomorrow but I want to get clear in my head first all the facts and possibilities.
    Thanks!
    Martha

    Why am I getting a blue box with question mark instead of logo image?  It happens in my signature (in gmail) and in mailchimp (again, only with the logo).

    The question mark in the box, if it looks like this:   means that safari cannot find the linked image.  On windows machines, this would be the equivilant of  the small "page-with-a-red-X" logo that appears in the same scenario.  Check the reference to the image and make sure that the image is in the correct location, and is accessable by the reference.

    Yes - email &amp; text work fine but when I use something like Google Images or search a blog with imbedded photos I get the empty white boxes with question marks.  If I click the question mark it opens the photo but I can't possibly do that for EVERY image on EVERY page I search!?!?!  I've rebooted the iPad &amp; my wireless card several times but neither action helped.  Have any clue what I should do now?

  • Applescript can't get name of front window

    The AppleScript support seems broken or unreliable (at least on OSX 10.10.1).
    For example, this little, very basic script worked in Firefox 33 but now (34?, 35 or 36) NOT anymore:
    tell application "Firefox"
    name of front window
    end tell
    ==>
    error "plugin-container got an error: Can’t get name of window 1." number -1728 from name of window 1
    Hint: If you check the output of the next applescript snippet, you see that the 'windows' don't even get a correct id.
    tell application "Firefox"
    windows
    end tell

    A further hint (tested on firefox version 35 and 36):

    HI,
    From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
    If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
    From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
    Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
    If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • AppleScript Studio/Xcode problem - Problem with text entries! Please help!

    Hey, I've been up for hours each night looking for solutions to this but still have had no luck.
    I am creating an app in Xcode/Applescript studio that will ask you to enter how many times you would like system events to repeat a certain keystroke. First of all, the code would look something like this:
    on click theObject
    If the name of theObject is equal to "myApplication" then
    (Right here would be where the variables representing text in an input in the app's window would be, which I have absolutely no clue what to type.)
    tell application "text edit"
    activate
    tell application "system events"
    keystroke x (x representing a variable)
    end tell
    end tell
    end clicked
    and that's about as far as I can get. I want a variable representing the text in the main text entry box, but I have no clue how to access that text, or even know if it's submitted or detected when I hit a button. Hopefully you're following, as I am way to confused to fully explain it, but please try and help me out if you can.

  • Scripting studio questions... - Help!?

    Hello, I've got two questions, both regarding applescript studio.
    Q1: How can one execute applescript code without pressing a button etc.
    Easy example: If I would like to display the default dialog with xcode's applescript, I would write "display dialog". But it doesn't display the default wanted dialog (just the app's window).
    Q2: How do I retrieve every word of a Text view interface component?
    Better asked. I would like to count all the words entered and have every word with a unique value, like the first word have the integer value of 1 the second word 2 the third 3 ...
    Help (of any kind) is dearly appreciated!

    You might be having a problem defining the Text VIew, so I will start from a blank application template.
    Double-click the MainMenu.xib file to open it in *Interface Builder*, then add a Text View to the application window and size it as desired. Clicking in the middle of the Text View will select the Scroll View part, and clicking again near the top will select the Text View part. With the Text VIew selected, go to the AppleScript Inspector, choose the script that you want to use your Text View in and give the Text View a name (for example "myTextView"). You can give names to the other user interface items if desired - in this example there is only one of each item so their indexes can also be used (e.g. "window 1"). Usually a name will be more clear, but I used a couple of different ways to specify the Text View.
    To add some delegate handlers, I selected the *end editing* event handler for the Text View, and the launched event handler for the application (don't forget to set the script). Once everything is defined in Interface Builder, I filled in the event handlers with some log statements to show what is happening (open the Console when build/running the application):
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFCE75;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into Xcode 3.1.x (Leopard)">
    on launched theObject
    log "launched..."
    tell window 1
    set contents of text view 1 of scroll view 1 to "This is some testing text - some testing text this is."
    end tell
    display dialog "This is a test dialog"
    end launched
    on end editing theObject
    log "end editing..."
    set theWords to words of (get contents of text view "myTextView" of scroll view 1 of window 1)
    log result
    end end editing
    </pre>
    A test dialog will appear when the application is first run (launched), and pressing return in the Text View (which ends the editing) will log the words of the content to the console.

    I assumed this would help my problem with not being able to open apps like Preview or TextEdit since I installed Mountain Lion. Instead, first I'm prompted to enter a password, then once I do that, I get an error box telling me the Library needs repairing. So I click on Repair, and once again I'm prompted for a password, which I enter, then the same error box opens, and so it goes. Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Get name of startup disk JS

    I've got an applescript that get's the name of the startup disk using
    set macname to get name of startup disk
    I'm wondering if the same can be done in a javascript that runs in InDesign CS3....
    I need to make the scripts work across platforms and am new to Java Scripting.
    Thanks in advance for any feedback.....

    Hi Kasyan!
    This is a very old thread, but I came accross it while searching for a solution to put the name of my startup disk in front of a file path in the "ancient" notation where the folder hierarchy is represented with a ":" devider istead of the "/".
    For all lurkers here:
    When exporting to fixed layout EPUB using the epubFixedLayoutExportPreferences in InDesign CC 2014, you sometimes need this "ancient" notation when working on a Mac. In the epubFixedLayoutExportPreferences you can assign an array of file paths to external CSS and JS files. And these file paths are in the notation:
    "NameOfTheDisk:NameOfFolder:NameOfOtherFolder:external.css"
    Instead of:
    "/NameOfFolder/NameOfOtherFolder/external.css"
    If you do the folder devider with "/" and the root is simply written as a "/" at start of the file path, the export will fail to include the external CSS and JS files.
    See this thread in the Adobe InDesign EPUB Forum for example:
    Script EPUB export not including JS/CSS with epubFixedLayoutExportPreferences
    So let me thank you for this AppleScript snippet to get the name of the startup disk!!!
    I have added some lines of code to get the name of the InDesign app more accurately equal of its version number.
    I've tested this on my MacBook with OSX 10.7.5. Hope, that the AppleScript part will not break on later instances of Mac OSX.
    Here your code with my small addition:
    //Kasyan Servetsky
    //https://forums.adobe.com/message/2336686#2336686
    //Some small addition by Uwe Laubender
    var myDisk = GetStartUpDisk();
    $.writeln("The name of my start up disk is: \"" + myDisk + "\"");
    function GetStartUpDisk() {
        //Get the name of the application for Mac users:
        var myAppName = decodeURI(File(app.fullName).name).replace(/\.app$/,"");
        if (File.fs == "Macintosh") {
            var myScript = 'tell application \"Finder\"\r'
            myScript += 'set myStartUpDisk to get name of startup disk\r';
            myScript += 'end tell\r';
            /* CHANGED LINE: I replaced the original line (now commented out) with a more general approach */
            /* myScript += 'tell application \"Adobe InDesign CS' + ((parseInt(app.version.substr(0, 1)) - 2) + "") + '\"\r'; */
            myScript += 'tell application \"'+myAppName+'\"\r';
            myScript += 'tell script args\r';
            myScript += 'set value name \"myScriptArgument\" value myStartUpDisk\r';
            myScript += 'end tell\r';
            myScript += 'end tell\r';
            app.doScript(myScript, ScriptLanguage.applescriptLanguage);
            var myStartUpDisk = app.scriptArgs.getValue("myScriptArgument");
        else if (File.fs == "Windows")  {
            var myStartUpDisk = String(Folder.system).charAt(1);
        return myStartUpDisk;
    Hm, now the question is: How can I get the name of a disk, that is not the startup disk?
    Could one of the AppleScripters here in the forum comment on that?
    All the best to you, Kasyan!
    Uwe

  • Where do I find Applescript studio download at

    I cant seem to find a download sight for Applescript Studio does any body know of a sight where I can download it?

    Can you please send a direct link to the Xtools download and also once it is downloaded how do I use it to make a menu?
    No. I can't do that. You have to register on http://developer.apple.com/ to get the tools (it's a free registration). Once you're in, though (click the ADC Member Site link at the top), just click the Downloads link, then Developer Tools.
    As for the 'make a menu' question, that's covered at length in the developer documentation available through the same site.

  • How do you get a blue box?

    I have posted many questions (49 posts) here with some great feedback and solutions. I have answered others only a few times though. Just wondering how you get a blue box beside your name? Thanks.

    Some/many times you will provide an answer to the original poster's (OP) question and they will mark the post as answered, however, the OP will not click on the Helpful or Solved buttons, which award points.
    Just to add to Tom's comment, you are not allowed to even bring up the subject of awarding points on the Discussions unless somebody specifically asks about it. If they miss awarding points you are only allowed to provide feedback to Apple (through the feedback website) on how you think the system doesn't seem perfect (you will not be the first, and probably not the last either).
    [Terms of use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms] 4.4.2: "Do not ask for points. If you feel the system is not clear to users, please provide feedback to Apple; do not instruct other users unless they ask."
    Just so you know, since normally even the mere mention of the points/marking-topics is totally taboo in a discussion and may result in a post being deleted or edited.
