Get out of Guest User

Somehow my Mac Air is in Guest User login and I can shut the computer down or cancel guest user. When the notebook boots up I am back to guest user with the spinner.

hi.
i see both my login icon and a guest user icon when i start up my mac.
i only want to see my icon with the password field ready for input so i dont need to select a user.
there is a 'guest user' in users & groups in system prefs but its disabled and i cant delete it.
this only happened when i upgraded to lion for some reason.
anyone know how to get rid of it?

Unlock the padlock and then click 'Login Options' at the bottom of the Users & Groups screen.
Then change the option to 'Name & Password'.
If you want to stick with 'List of users', you could also try enabling and the disabling the Guest User account to see if that clears it from the list of users.

Dear Everybody,
I have removed 2 users from my imac (osx 10.7.4) to create more space and had my main user still on the system.
after i restarted the system. a white screen came up? I had no idea what to do. After some checking i think i am in single user mode since there is only 1 user for the computer. PLEASE: how can I go from this white screen (single user) back to my normal log in so I can possible add 1 more user?

I keep getting a bright white screen after the apple logo grey screen.
I tried resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, i tried safe mode, i tried single user cmd and fsck -fy etc etc i keep getting the same end result a bright white screen
is there anybody who might know what to do?

I can no longer see my account name so I can gain access to my information, but now all I get is a Guest user account and it won't let me log into that account. All it lests me do is re-start the computer and use it in restricted mode. Can someone please help me!

Hopefully your original user account was an "administrator". I have two admin accts in case one admin. acct gets "trashed.
Lets see what other forum members offer: my solution requires use of terminal and works. CLI (Command Line Interface) might be intimidating for you but we'll see what others possibly offer.
As I say the solution I have works well and will allow you to create new user(s) replacing your former users whatever type they were. I promise to check back today if no solution to you is offered...

How do I log out of guest account?

Today I logged in to the guest account for the first time. When it is logged in to the guest I am unable to click anything to try to get out of guest account. The cursor moves but I cannot click or tap anything. I also started the computer in safe boot and it shows my user id and the guest icons but I am unable to click on anything. When I start the computer in regular mode it goes straight to the guest accoubt without giving me the option to log into my user id. Please help me! Thank you!

If you're tapping to click, physically click the trackpad button. Tap-to-click is off by default.

Guest user file lost

I am a new mac user here.
I created a guest user account.
after i reboot, my downloaded file all missing or lost.
Is that anyway I can get back those files?

As Linc points out, the guest user account does not have a long-term file store. Any files are deleted when you log out. That is because the guest account is meant only for temporary use by someone who is not a regular user of the machine and should not be leaving litter to clutter up the hard drive. Don't try to use it for anything more than that in the future.

Guest users in WLC are not logged out after pre defined time.

My customer wants to create guest users in wireless lan controller. We were successfully able to create that and it worked . But the problem is that to access the internet the users have to change the "proxy server" settings on the internet explorer. As a result the guest users are not logged out automatically after the pre defined amount of time. We enabled " by pass proxy server " settings in internet explorer also, unfortunately it didnt work too.
If we disable the proxy settings in internet explorer customers were logged out, but the problem is that once the customer log in he will change the proxy settings in internet explorer to browse net but wont get disconnect unless and untill he manually change the proxy settings in the internet explorer.
Is there any other way to solve this issue? Can any one provide any alternative solution if possible.

Can you explain how your proxy server has anything to do with your wireless access duration?
Does you proxy server have the logic that stops the internet access after a period of time? If so, I assume you turn proxy off in order to web-authenticate? If so, then you just need to tell the browser to not proxy for the virtual IP address of the WLC. You'll never get redirected to the webauth page if you don't send a https request to it (as if, your browser is sending it the IP of your proxy server).

You don't want to get rid of, it's a security feature. If someone steals your Mac, all that account permits is Safari access, no other access to the computer. This enables you to locate your Mac.

Guest Wireless Users Not Able to Get to NAC Guest Server

First of all, I appreciate any of the help that can be offered on the post. Your solutions and suggestions have been valuable, in the past!
Here's the scenario. I have two internal WLC's, and one anchor mobility server, in the DMZ. The internal controllers are part of the 10.x.x.x range, while the DMZ WLC is in the 192.168.1.x range. We also have a NAC Guest Server, in the DMZ that has a 192.168.1.x address. Here's the problem, when a guest user uses our guest SSID, they're assigned a 172.16.x.x address, their traffic is intercepted, and they're presented with a login page. If they don't have login credentials, there's a "Register Here" link that takes them to the NAC Guest Server to self-register. When they click the "Register Here" link, for some reason they can't get to the NAC guest server. If I bring up a command prompt, and type in "telnet 192.168.1.x 80", it connects. The odd thing is that when I was testing, if I login with guest credentials, and then try to go to the NAC Guest Server self-service page, I can get to it with no problem. Would anyone have any ideas as to why?

I may have missed something here, but isn't the point of the guest portal that you can't get anywhere on the network (except the guest portal) until you have authenticated?

I accidently logged off with Guest user and now I cant get back into my computer it is threatening to loose all my documents

As i am the sole user of my computer i dont use my password, therefore to be honest i have forgotten it. Now I dont know how to get my password back and i cant delete the guest user which seemed to have put itself there. if I try to delete. It I am told i will lose all my files. I simply switched off last night as I was so frustrated by it. technical terms are not much use to me, at 78 i feel I just need simply directions as to what to do. i am sure there is nothing wrong with the desktop. i would be grateful for any suggestions

Your Mac encrypts your password as it is entered. It is never stored "in the clear". It cannot tell you what it is, or even how many characters are in it. All it can tell is, when you enter it again and it encrypts it again, "was that it?"
So you will need to Reset your password, which changes it permanently, deleting the old one.

I just updated to 10.9.4 Maverick, and now I get a guest user at login. It was never there before. I'm concerned someone has tried to hack in.

Could I have been hacked?

Could be two reasons
1.Have you turned on Find My Mac? Guest user is enabled if you have as a trap for the thief.
2. Check System preferences> Users and Groups. Is there a guest user here? If so uncheck the Allow guests to log into this computer.

The built-in guest user account will not do this. Simply create a new standard account and call it "Guest" or "Guest Users" or whatever you like.
Go to System Preferences > Users& Groups, click "+" to make a new account.
