Get recovery partition back?

Ok here's the deal I recently installed an SSD into my Mac Mini 2011 as a primary hard drive, and I have the stock 500GB as a spare data drive.
When I re-installed Lion is wiped the 500Gb then realised I wiped the recovery partition off, is there anyway to get it back? It's needed for Find My Mac too.
Thanks.

Yes.
You have two options. 1 - reinstall Lion on top of itself. 2 - if you feel comfortable using Terminal, you can follow these instructions to recreate the Recovery HD without reinstalling Lion.

Use this tool and the Install OS X Mavericks.app which you can download from the App Store. I have used the tool several times and it also works with OS X Lion and Mountain Lion. You just need the install app for those OS's. The tool basically asks where you want to create the Recovery HD, where the install app is stored and if you want to create it for 10.9 or 10.8/10.7.

  • How do I get Recovery HD back onto Macbook Air?

While trying to create an image to distrubute at work, I wiped my Macbook Air (11inch i5) while booted to an external HD using Disk Utility. I wiped the entire HD, not a single partition, so the Recovery HD is gone. From the Macbook Air...
    I AM ABLE TO...
Boot to an external HD with Lion installed from a USB. The external HD was created on a Macbook Pro using the Lion DMG from the App Store.
Boot to an external HD pulled from a Macbook Pro running Lion.
    I AM UNABLE TO...
Boot to USB drive with Lion from the App Store (get null set)
Boot to Recovery HD (as it is gone)
Boot via Lion Internet Recovery Mode (error -2003F)
Boot to a Recovery HD created with Lion Recovery Disk Assistant (get null set)
Boot via Target Mode as I do not have a Thunderbolt cord yet
Boot with a Snow Leopard disc as these machines do not allow for this
I simply want to get a base image of Lion and the Recovery HD reinstated. I am absolutely amazed at how annoying this has become. Any and all ideas are welcome and very appreciated.

I'm in the same boat. I can boot to a Lion disk in an external DVD drive, but it will only display video on an external monitor...

  • How to get windows partition back on start up disk

I have used boot camp partition (windows) for months without any problem. I recently installed VM ware fusion. But unfortunately it did not work properly so I had to uninstall it.
Now I can no longer reboot from 'system preferences / start up disk' since the windows partition no longer appears beside OS X.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks

NB I can still reboot windows when I restart the computer with alt key pressed.

You probably want to post your question in the Intel-based iMac discussion area instead of here in the discussion area for the much older iMac G4.

  • Sir i have deleted recovery partition from my laptop

sir how to get recovery partition back to my hard disc without using dvd's into which i hav rided recovery media creation

    Hi,
It's certainly odd that the discs haven't re-created the Recovery Partition - the only suggestion I have at the moment is to try the process again as follows.
First, click the Start Menu, open Computer and double-click Local Disk C - you should see a folder called swsetup.  This will contain all the driver installers and practically all of the software installers for your notebook - back this up to an external device/media.
Next, back-up all your personal files etc to an external device/media.
Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the Power Button to launch the Start-up Menu.  Insert your first Recovery Disc.  Select 'Boot Options' in he Start-up Menu, use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and then hit enter - press any key if prompted to start the Recovery Process.  Choose the 'Factory Reset' option.
When the process has completed and you are in Windows, hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and when the partitions have loaded, see if the Recovery Partition D is now listed.

  • Backup recovery partition

i have disk recovery partition that was deleted. now i want it come back, can i back it up with software from third-party ? any one know ? please help me, thank you. .

    Hi,
The only way to get the Recovery Partition back is to use your Recovery Discs to reistall the operating system as this will also re-create the recovery partition on the hard drive.  Make sure to back-up your personal files etc first.
If you don't have these discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

  • Deleted Recovery Partition and It no longer shows up on reboot! HELP!

Accidently deleted Recovery Partition and it no longer shows up on reboot! HELP! I'm trying to install windows on my mac so i do some CAD, but i don't want to proceed without getting the Recovery Partition back.

If you deleted the Recovery volume, the only way to create your Recovery HD again is by reinstalling OS X. If your Mac came with the OS X version you have, start in Internet Recovery (holding Command, Option and R keys) and reinstall OS X

  • Removed Lion Recovery Partition!

I have removed the Lion Recovery partition and shat should I do now to get that back again?

Download Carbon Copy Cloner and WinClone 3
Get two blank external drives, make sure they are formatted GUID and OS X extended journaled in Disk Utility (actually check Winclone for their external drive format requirments for Windows)
Use CCC to clone the OS X partition to one external drive.
Use Winclone to clone the Windows Boot Camp partition to the other external drive.
    Disconnect all drives.
Now the problem is how to get Recovery HD back onto the machine.
If you upgraded 10.6 to 10.7/10.8, then hold option/alt and boot off the 10.6 disk, use it to erase the entire internal drive of everything, then install 10.6, upgrade to 10.6.8 and reinstall 10.7/10.8 from AppSore by option click on Purchases or whatever it uses, that will put the Recovery HD back on the machine.
If your machine came with 10.7 or 10.8, then hold the command option and r keys down and boot the machine on a fast Internet connection (Ethernet the router preferred) and this will load Internet Recovery from Apple's servers. Use Disk Utility there to erase the entire drive of everything and quit, then reinstall OS X from Apple's servers, it will recreate the Recovery HD partition that way, as it's assuming it's a new drive it's installing on.
When you have your machine in order, go to BootCamp and set up your partition again, then quit.
Hold the option/alt key down and boot off the OS X "CCC" clone you made, now use CCC to reverse clone OS X back onto the internal drive.
Connect the Winclone drive, run Winclone and clone that back onto your BootCamp partition.
When done, reboot and disconnect all drives, head to System Preferences > Startup Disk and set it to either OS X or BootCamp as the default boot. As you know if you change your mind to hold option key at boot to go to the other instead.

  • How to save Recovery Partition before RAID?

Tomorrow I will receive from a prominent online merchant that starts with an A, my niew 2011 Mac Mini Server.  Can't wait.  I have used one at work at they are great.  Furthermore, I also put hte one at work into RAID 0, which is great too.
I plan to put my home machine in RAID 0 as well (I try to keep plenty of backups, knock on wood).
However, I have a concern!  What about the Recovery Partition? Being that mine will be home use, I'm a bit nervous about forever losing the Receovery Partition in case I ever want to sell the Mini and get a new model.
Can I backup the recovery partition to a SD card by booting into recovery and using the disk utility before I go RAID 0?
However, I know from work, when you reinstall Lion, it doesn't put a Recovery back on, if you do RAID 0.
If you someday put it back to two separate drives and reinstall Lion, will it then put the hidden Recovery Partition back?
    Thank you!

If you use RAID0 or RAID1 you cannot have a recovery partition (they are not compatible). However your new Mac mini can do an Internet based recovery. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
I would recommend you clone both the recovery partition and the normal partition before converting to RAID so you have a full backup. The most important thing is that the shipped boot partition on your Mac mini Server will have the Server.app software which is not available via the Internet Recovery or the Recovery partition. Doing a full backup will also cover your iLife applications as well.

  • Corrupted Recovery Partition?

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro. I wanted to do a clean install of Yosemite. I booted into the recovery mode and successfully began the reinstallation of Yosemite. The installation process got interrupted, and ever since that point only Internet recovery mode would take over. This would only let me install OS X Mavericks. I did let it go through the entire Internet recovery process and install Mavericks and then upgraded it to Yosemite in the operating system.
After this point I assumed my recovery partition would be cleaned up again and have Yosemite there, instead my computer still booted into Internet recovery mode and only has Mavericks available. How can I get my recovery partition back to Yosemite so I do not have to go through Internet recovery mode every time? All I want to do is a clean install of Yosemite directly.

Internet recovery gives you the OS the machine shipped with—in your case, Mavericks. After  installing Yosemite, recovery (CMD+R) will give you Yosemite if you reinstall the OS.

  • Factory recovery partition on windows 8 in Asus X551CALaptop

I purchased Asus x551CA notebook on 22nd Feb 2014. After about 45 days I formated hard disk partition
on which Activated Windows 8 operating systme was installed.I formatted an repartitioned HDD.
And I installed and uninstalled windows8 and windows 8.1 90 days enterprise evaluation edition. Because of
these link to factory recovery partition is broken.
I have created system image disks which are working to restore system. I forgot how I created these disks. May be
I did control panel>recovery>file history>windows 7 file recovery. So these disks should be System Image Backup.
I think these are not OEM recovery disks. When I insert these disks during reset and refresh I get a message
that "Media you inserted is not valid". And I am able to create system image on second partition of hard disk of
my laptop.I have also got product key of windows 8 by a program jellybean keyfinder.
To restore from discs created by me. I insert a repair disc then I go to UEFI settings. Then I change boot preferences to
boot from DVD. Then I go to Restore form images. Then computer asks me to insert my discs no from 1 to 4. One after the other. Then computer restore to windows 8. It looks alike as it was factory made.
-When I try to create a recovery drive by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
to the recovery drive". Please tell me how can it come with not grayed dialog box so that I can copy
recovery partition to USB pen drive? When notebook was new this check box was not grayed and I was able to
copy recovery partition on USB pen drive.
-Since I cannot copy recovery partition to USB therefore I also cannot reset and refresh windows 8 on
the basis of USB. It was working when notebook was new.
-And reset or refresh also not working on the basis of hidden recovery partition. How can it will start
working? It was working when notebook was new.
-I have tried diskpart command do make hidden recovery partition visible. But it becomes invisible
after restart. I used following command
    1. Command Prompt Run as administer.
    2. diskpart
    3. list disk
    4. select disk 0
    5. list partition
    6. select partition 6
    7. assign letter z
by these commands hidden recovery partition becomes visible and again when I restart laptop it becomes invisible.
And I am not able to do anything with recovery partition E.G. copy the recovery partition to USB
When I created a system image using the following command I became able to refresh my PC. May be it was refreshing
on the basis of newly created image.
    recimg /createimage D:\IMAGE81
    recimg /setcurrent D:\IMAGE81
But it is also not working this time and it gives a message "Drive on which windows is installed is locked unlock it".
May because I installe AVG antivirus it locked the drive.
    I also used REAgentC command
    reagentc /setreimage /path F:\Recovery\WindowsRE\ /target C:\Windows /bootkey 4300
Maybe I executed above command once again I used D: instead of F:
And I was able to refresh PC but I was not able to Reset. And I was not able to copy recovery partition on USB
by going to control panel> Recovery >create a recovery drive.
Recovery drive dialog box appears but with grayed check box of "copy the recovery partition from PC
    to the recovery drive".
((I am giving images of computer management in first_image no partition was created it was in factory made state. And
in second_Image I created an extra disk partition which is present on disk this time.)) I cannot give images because
of my account is not varified.
So I am giving output of diskpart command to understand disk partitions.
    C:\>diskpart
    DISKPART> list disk

Volume 6               Restore          NTFS   Partition     20 GB    Healthy      Hidden
in the beginnig instead of D: (130 GB) and F:(128 GB) there was only one partition D:(258 GB) 130+128 GB.
Please tell me answers of following quesions:-
    1. Tell me how to regain the link to factory recovery drive.
    2. Please tell me how can I refresh and reset PC on the basis of Hidden Factory Recovery Partition. And how can I copy Hidden Factory Recovery Partition on USB and DVDs. I have 16GB USB pen drive and a DVD writer. So I can use these two storage media
only and except these I have 500GB HDD on my laptop.
    4. I want to know that Factory recovery partition is useful or not. Should I delete it.
    3. I have DVDs as I said above. On the basis of these I can reinstall windows 8. When I created these discs windows 8 was present on laptop. Currently windows 8.1 is present on laptop. Please tell me how can I create my own hidden recovery partition for
windows 8. I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So please tell me can I create my own hidden recovey partition for windows 8.1.
    5. Can I download contents of factory recovery partition from internet.
    6. Should I go to shopkeeper. He repairs computers as well. Probably he will manage for me to get Recovery partition discs. In this case these DVDs may be different from my DVDs as I mentioned above. Maybe only thing I get from these discs that I will
able to reset and refresh computer.
    7. Microsoft shoult create a program that can re-establish link to factory recovery partition. And this program should be able to create new hidden recovery partition as well. As I have upgraded to windows 8.1. So I think I should have a new hidden recovery partition
for Windows 8.1. I think I can above thing my other way. If I create new set of DVDs by going to control panel>recovery>   file history>System Image Backup. It will create discs for windows 8.1. And I will able to restore system to windows
8.1 by these discs. And for windows 8 I have already discs. But these discs will only work by changing boot options(by choosing UEFI) and image recovery. And reset and refresh functions will not work then in such situation factory recovery partition
will become useless. Then such situation I should delete factory recovery partition as it is useless.
    8. At beginnign I also tried AI recovery burner. After trying it for 2-3 days I came to know that AI recovery burner is not for windows 8. There should be a tutorial for these thing so that people like me not waste their time.

I used a software named UNDELETE on my hidden recovery partition to recover it. I get some files by this software. Important thing is that I got a 2.84 GB file named 00eebc9d.rb in dir D:\recovered1\Files Detected by their Signatures\Unknown Application\.rb.
This file may be useful. Please suggest me how can I use these files to reset and refresh my OS. I used some dir commands as follows to get list of these files:
    dir /s >f:\list.txt
    dir /s /a:s >f:\list2.txt
Some files were system files so these file were not shown by first dir command. So I used second dir command.
    Output of dir /s >f:\list.txt
Volume in drive D is DATA

Kindly guide me how can I use my hidden recovery partition to reset and refresh by use of these files.

  • How can I undo Converting Recovery Partition to Logical Drive (Oops...) - HP G62-b32sa???

I needed to create a new partition, but to do that Easeus Partition Master 9.00 Home Edition (I like using this compared to the Windows one..) stated that I needed to convert one of the 4 pre-made partitions from Primary to Logical. The following partitions were pre-made with my laptop, HP G62-b32SA, all of which were Primary:
    *: SYSTEM
    C:
    D: RECOVERY
    *: HP_TOOLS
I could only convert the "D: Recovery" to Logical, so I went ahead, and then could create a new partition. But now after reading several post on this Forum, I realised what a mistake that was. I found that that converting the Recovery partition to Logical renders it useless... "Oops" I said. Now I wonder that if I convert the Recovery partition back to Primary, will I be able to use it again, or has the damage been done? But then the other problem is that it won't allow me to convert the Recovery Partition back to Primary, claiming "there are no free MBR slots". Also, I have a feeling that I'll have to delete my newly created partition to convert the Recovery partition back to Primary, but then how do I create a new partition without converting any of the existing to Logical? Endless questions, I know. So now I ask, what is the best thing to do??
BTW this is my first HP Laptop...

  • How can I get back my recovery partition when my harddisk is corrupt ?

Few days ago I bought my new HP Envy Notebook 1003 tu with windows 7 home premium x64 installed.
After completing the first windows install, I saw that there are only two visible partitions, one big windows partition and other around 20GB recovery partition. I opened Windows disk management and tried to resize the windows partition to 100 gb, on changing windows partition size, windows gave a message that except first no other volume will be bootable or something like that, I don't remember and then I created around 4 more partitions and changed the recovery partition drive letter to Z:
Now today, I wanted to factory reset my pc but F11 recovery manager was giving an error and on searching on internet, I became aware that I changed my harddisk from basic to dynamic. Now Trough different methods I tried to make it back basic, then I editied the partition table and marked all partitions type from 42 (dynamic voumes number or whatever number it was) to 07 (ntfs volume number). After that my windows stopped booting, I tried many different things but unable to start the windows. Windows given an error on booting, I tried to repair the boot manager but ever the repair failed.
Please help me, I just want to backup the recovery partition and/or factory reset the system.
Any response will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

It depends on county and product you have. In few countries no recovery dvds are free while in few time bound. In few countries recovery discs are free as long as product is within warranty. You need to check with HP support team what is applicable for your product and country.
