Get rid of documented menulets in menu bar

I've found a lot of answers on how to remove a menulet that is "undocumented" like the bluetooth icon. But how do I remove a documented menulet (the right side)?? You can't drag them like the undocumented! Stuffit Deluxe has a menulet that I really don't need! How do I get rid of it?
Any suggestions?? Thanks...
MacBook Core 2 Duo, 2Ghz, 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

For those who aren't sure what you mean by "undocumented" simonma is referring to menulets by Apple (that are developed using code that is not published outside Apple), and menulets by most third-parties (that are developed using code that Apple publishes, but this code doesn't offer the expanded capabilities -- like command-drag to move -- and cannot intermingle with Apple's menulets). Some third-parties have reverse-engineered Apple's code, so when you aren't sure what "type" of menulet you are dealing with, just try to "command-drag" it and you'll see.
Simonma, for "documented" menulets, each application has its own way of doing it. Some of the include a Preference panel (either in System preferences or in their own). For others, you can simply remove them from your Login items.

  • Can't get rid of sync icon in menu bar

I just sold this powerbook to a friend and I'm having problems getting rid of my identity for her.
    1) I can't get rid of the sync icon in the menu bar (or whatever it's called)
    2) I can't get to the place in the system preferences where this is enabled because I have removed my .Mac identity from this system
    3) Even though the system no longer has a .Mac identity it still seems to want to sync
    4) I removed all of my contacts and groups from my address book, but each time I restart the system they all come back.

Hold down the CMD key and drag the sync icon off the menu bar.
If you're selling a computer to someone else, you should sell it in the state you bought it. So just re-install the original OS from the original disks provided with the computer. That will wipe any of your personal info, including all the stuff you don't know where it is.

When taking a picture with home and sleep button can you get rid of the tool and task bar?? (the search bars)

No, but you can use any picture editing tool to crop out the bars.  (Many are free in the App Store.)  Me personally, I use PhotoPad, which I use to crop as well as rotate the screen shot.  Takes less than a minute to do both with PhotoPad.

    hi everyone,
is there any way to get rid or hide of the title bar in a Jframe without using JWindow because this one didn't conserve all the abilities a JFrame(listeners)...
    thanks in advance

It is setUndecorated(true), but you'll need version 1.4 to use it. If you don't have it, then you use JWindow...

How do I get rid of the "mail" nav menu item at the top right of our Wiki? Our mail server isn't switched on so I wouldn't have expected it to show in the first place.

I solved my issue, and it can probably help with yours too. Sounds like you'll have to enable web archives in order to disable them for individual groups.

  • Consolidating Menu Extras (a.k.a. Menulets) on menu bar?

There's a bunch of menulets that I use on a regular basis, but they're taking up too much of the menu bar. I know all about how to get rid of menulets, but that's not what I'm looking to do since I want to keep them all.
Does anyone know if there is any kind of software or OS hack that allows you to consolidate a whole bunch of menulets under a single menulet? A "menulet menulet" so to speak?
    Thanks in advance.
    D.

Not that I'm aware of. But you can reduce the space some of them take up by changing their settings. For example:
    a. The User Account menu can be changed so that it only shows the Accounts icon and not the whole name of the user logged in (Sys Prefs-->Accounts-->Login Options).
    b. Date/Time can be reduced to show just the time.
    c. The battery menu on portables can be reduced to show only the battery icon and its' state.
Those are the only ones I know of so far.

  • When I access AOL on Firefox a "plug in tool bar" appears on the right side of my screen obliterating my scroll bar. How do I get rid of this annoying plug in bar?

AOL says it's your browser that is causing this, not AOL and it makes AOL pretty useless to use on Firefox. Much easier to use Windows Explorer. Can you get rid of this "browse or add plug in" bar? How do I get around this? Using Firefox on a Windows Vista operating system.

Opening in the sidebar is the default for bookmarks that are created via a link or button on a website.
You can check the properties of a bookmark via the right-click context menu in the sidebar (Ctrl+B; Command+B on Mac).
In the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) you can click the More button in the Details pane at the bottom right.
Make sure that "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" is not selected.

  • Can't get rid of items from the Side bar

I placed some movies in the side bar and now I can't get rid of them. I was able to remove one movie that I placed in the side bar today from the side bar, but some other movies I can't remove. I don't remember putting these movies in the side bar. When I left click on these movies all that comes up is Sidebar Preferences.

I found the answer by browsing. I am supposed to hold the Command key down and drag the item off the sidebar. It worked. I was trying to right click the item and remove it that way which didn't work.

  • How to get rid of Bing in the search bar

When downloading a game (someone not me) failed to uncheck the box for downloading a gamesbar. IE, Chrome & Firefox got a new homepage and Bing as default search engine. I fixed the homepages. I believe I fixed the search engine on all but firefox. I uninstalled the gamesbar & any games that came with it. I also uninstalled Firefox, deleted the firefox setup.exe file, then downloaded Firefox & installed it. Guess what persists...Bing in the searchbar. This is to the right of the address bar. I hate Bing.
This feels invasive. I cannot figure out what to do. I won't use Firefox until I get rid of Bing. I wonder why it is easier to drop Bing from both IE & Chrome. Anyway, Please someone help me.

Right-click on your [[Search bar]], click "Manage Search Engines", then select the one you wish to remove and click "Remove".
Also note that in current versions of Firefox, both Yahoo and Bing do come preinstalled as an available search to select, though Google is the default. Some people requested them I think, but the list should always be customizable.
If simply removing it from your list doesn't work, you may have some dubious addon forcing things for you. -> [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • How to get the languge flag in the menu bar on OS X Mavericks?

I recently switched from OS 10.5 to 10.9. On my old system, there was a way to get a little flag up in the menu bar that allowed me to switch between input languages easily. That seems to be gone or have changed. Anyone know how I can get it back?

    Apple Menu()>System Preferences>Keyboard >Show keyboard&Character viewer in menubar
check and uncheck to get your flag

Tell me how to get rid of them or I shall have to go back to Safari

    Hi Javatoid,
The issue is that I want to have parental controls activated, so only certain sites can be viewed. However, deleting the safari preference file is a way around it. I don't want to have search engines on safari. Only selected web sites. What's the point of having parental controls on when the pref can be deleted and Yahoo is back with the ability to search for whatever the heart desires. The parental controls would be perfect if you could get around this problem.

  • Help: How to get rid off the default Window menu from FORM screen?

    Hi,
I am working on a FORM application. On the very top left of the FORM screen, there is a default Window menu with:
    Cascade
    Tile Horizontally
    Tile Vertically
    etc.
The end user will never use it for this application. To make the screen look nicer, is there a way to hid or get rid off it?
Also if possible, I want to hid or get rid off very top "Oracle Developer Forms Runtime - Web"
    Thanks.
    Jimmy

Also if possible, I want to hid or get rid off very top "Oracle Developer Forms Runtime - Web"I see you are running with separate frame. In the When-new-form-instance trigger, use
    Set_Window_Property(Forms_MDI_Window, Title, "xyz" );
    to change the window title.

  • Get rid of that damn context menu!

I'm using flex in an embedded browser within a win32
application. I need to use my own context menu and the existing one
that adobe provides has a settings option that darkens the client
area and invalidates my transparency color (i.e. the mask color of
custom shaped flex UI suddenly appears). How do I eliminate the
adobe context menu? I tried the swRemote="swContextMenu='false'"
option but it had no impact. My .swf files are used locally if that
    matters.

Thanks for your replies. I have been able to get rid of alot
    of menu items via
    Application.application.contextMenu.hideBuiltInItems() and setting
menu="false" in the html starter document. 'Settings' (the most
problematic menu-item) remains. Really, any 'enforced' menu option
should not changed the visual state of the UI... and that's whats
    killing me.
Maybe Adobe can view and respond to this issue. The only
other thing I can think of is introducing a Win32 hook to hijack
all mouse messages before the flex hWnd gets them and handle
right-mouse-clicks from there (and keep them from going to flex).
It's a horrible solution and really complicates things.
