Get rid of mac app store update??

I had to do a clean install of snow leopard because i didnt like the way lion ran on my macbook. 2 days later i saw an app store update icon. I found it odd since i hadnt added any apps yet. it said there is an update for the store news update. but i dont have that app so i tried to install it and delete it but it says i have to sign in with some strange email. im lost and dont know how that is possible. can someone please explain how to get rid of it?

Here's a theory about this...
When you set up your SL system, did you reinstall or continue to use your own software like personal apps, games, etc.?  If so, were they all from "legitimate" sources?  If not, it is possible you have a hacked version of some software which originally came from the app store and that hacked version has a _MASReceipt from the app that's confusing you.
Once upon a time a simple hack was to take the _MASReceipt from some free app store app and replace the _MASReceipt's in a non-free app store app.  I think that hole is long since sealed.  But if there is a wayward _MASReceipt floating around in some app bundle then the App Store stuff added to systems beyond 10.6.5 is going to find it.   Apparently the app the _MASReceipt's originally came from for has been updated and you are being notified about it.  And I guess _MASReceipt's contain account info adding to the confusion.
So you need to check for a _MASReceipt in some app bundle.  Download a search utility that can look into app bundles, e.g., Find Any Fiile, and tell it to search for _MASReceipt.  You will see a checkbox on top that says Show Package Contents.  Keep that checked.  It will then search within application bundles.  If there's a _MASReceipt somewhere, someplace, you should be able to find it.  Then trash the app that contains it.
Again, just my theory.

  • Mac App Store update: right Apple ID but wrong user account

My Mac App Store updates get associated to the wrong user account but the correct Apple ID.
I live in Germany and have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, both purchased under Snow Leopard and now running Lion 10.7.2. Just after upgrading to Lion I "purchased" a free App (BibleReader 5.0.0). This morning I logged into my wife's user account on the MacBook Pro, and the App Store icon flagged an update. I switched to my user account and was surprised to see that the update wasn't flagged there. By listing my purchases I did suceed in finding an "update" button for BibleReader, but pressing it resulted in a (German) error message whch translates as "An update is available for another account. Please log in with the account you used to purchase the App". But that is what I had just done.
Intrigued I went back to my wife's user account. By logging onto the Mac App Store with my Apple ID from my wife's user account I did manage to update the app. Later at work I got the same error message on the iMac. But this time the only other user account on the machine belongs to Computing Services: I don't have their password and I ought not to use admin rights to gain access to their account. So I can't perform the upgrade on the iMac.
All family iTunes / App Store purchases are via my main Apple ID. My wife's user account on the MacBook Pro only exists so that I can manually synchronise our iCloud address books (she has an iPad).
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them

  • Mac App Store Updates won't load

My problem is that the Mac App Store shows several newer versions of Apps I own in the "Updates" section. Once I try downloading them an error will be displayed every time. Buying or loading new apps works just fine. Loading Updates in the iTunes store works as well. I only have trouble with Mac App Store updates. Any idea what this could be?
    The error message says:
"Die angeforderte URL wurde auf diesem Server nicht gefunden."
"The requested URL could not be found on this server."
Thanks for your help. It's driving me mad.

I am having the same problem. So far, for me, Apple had no solution to it. Try to download the updates using a different network environment. I only have the above mentioned problem when I am online with my macbook using the hotspot (tethering) option of my iPhone. My iPhone is connected via USB. If I use a different network via ETHERNET, the update works fine.
If you find a solution to this, please let me know:

  • Mac App Store Updates stuck in "Waiting". Anyone had this issue before?

    Hi,
I stumbled upon this issue yesterday where I had a software update waiting for me at the Mac App Store, and when I hit the update button on the store, the update got stuck in the "Waiting" message that appears to the left side of the "UPDATE" button. The updates did not appeared to download nor start, they just got stuck in the "waiting" stage. Moving to the "featured" section of the app store did not worked to re-highlight the UPDATE button in the update section of the Mac App Store page. The only way I was able to solve the issue was by Force Quitting the Mac App Store and trying again. On the second attempt, when I clicked the UPDATE button the "Waiting" message appeared but then disappeared and showed the expected download and install progressbar in the Mac App Store updates.
I was wondering if someone has seen a similar issue to the one I am describing.
Thanks for your time and answers!

    Best.
    Hi dominic23,
I see... Well this bugs me off course because is not the normal behavior that I would expect from OS X, but if it sometimes happens, I'll be OK with that. I don't know but I may file a bug report to Apple on this so that they at least know of the issue.
    Thanks for the advise!

  • Mac app store update indicated as installed

The Mac App Store tells me there's an update available for one of my applications, however, the install button is disabled and indicates that the new version of the app is already installed. The version number of the app (About...) shows v120...., the update in the App Store shows v121, so there's something available, it seems.
How can i either download the update, or get rid of the update indication in the App Store?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Drag & drop the app into the Trash. Don't empty the Trash. Try updating the app. The MAS should now download the latest version to your Mac. If the app updates successfully, you can empty the Trash.

  • Mac App Store Updates

Hi, i have a macbook pro and the mac app store is telling me i have a update for angry birds but i dont actually have angry birds installed, when i click update it doesnt really do anything but hang for a while then it pops up telling me that theres some sort of error. I cant seem to get rid of it and i dont know why its appeared. i've tried loging out and back in again in the app store but that doesnt work either. Please any help would be nice??
    thanks

    Two things come to mind.
Not accusing, you understand, but this does sometimes occurs when people have accidentally downloaded Angry Birds from a pirate site.   App store picks up its presence but not its detail.
Another thing to do would be to type Angry Birds into the search box (top right) and read some of the many similar and previous questions.

  • Mac App Store Updating Nonexistent Application?

I recently purchased a Macbook Pro.  After using the App store to download a few applications, it now show I have an update for Angry Birds.  I have never downloaded Angry Birds, but when I try to update it, it shows another App Store account that doesn't belong to me.  I've searched online for how to fix this, and have found out that the email is associated with a pirated app.  The fix provided is to delete the application, but the application doesn't show up on my system.  It isn't in the applications folder and searching for angry birds finds nothing.  I've also tried to repair disk permissions and have had spotlight reindex my files, but this still hasn't fixed the issue.  Any idea as to how to fix this?  Also, how would this have gotten onto my brand new Macbook?  Thanks for any help!

You have a pirated app on your Mac. You have downloaded a free app somewhere instead of buying it from the Mac App Store. The free app has been cracked with the MAS receipt from the Angry Birds app obtained from this other person's account. Get rid of the pirated app and the issue will go away.

  • Mac App Store updating apps on _other_ drive :-(

A little background first - wanted to not just jump right in in upgrading to Mountain Lion (10.8.0), so I got (same brand) external USB HD, formatted it, installed Mountain Lion on that. (With some assistance from Apple Support...) I have moved most all my apps and documents over to the (external) ML drive (500GB). Also have many apps bought through MAS and installed on the ML-500 external drive. When I want to use ML, I boot up from it; other times, I will boot up with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on the internal drive (320GB) to use a few apps where I haven't had all their docs transmogrified to 10.8-compatible apps. Most of the time now, things have been workable and fine.
In the past couple of days, I have discovered that apparently when I had logged into the MAS to update my ML-compatible apps, the MAS (unbeknown to me) updated the older (10.6.8-compatible) apps I had there, including iWork '08 (which had been updated as far as 10.6.8 updates would take them).
So now, it appears (since version numbers are the same for the Numbers, Pages and Keynote apps between the two OS drives) that I have (non-10.6.8-compatible) apps on the Snow Leopard (internal) drive, that won't run when I start up with 10.6.8. The icons on the 10.6.8 drive for Numbers, Pages, and Keynote (which were inside an iWork '08 folder, inside the Applications folder, on the internal/10.6.8 drive) have the 'not' circle and line across them when I view them running from the Mac OS X 10.6.8 (internal) drive. Haven't checked other MAS-downloaded 10.6-compatible purchased apps, so there may be more 'over-updated' apps...
I know that I have my original iWork '08 DVD (and likely, can go back through my Time Machine backups to try to find my latest versions under 10.6.8) and can re-install (and then install all the updates since then under 10.6.8) to get them back, but I would think  - since OS X install discs check a drive for the system version number before installing - that MAS would be setup to FIRST check what the OS X version for a drive with Pages/Numbers/Keynote/other Apple non-system apps, before installing a version over an app (that renders it useless for that version of OS X).
Even though I can possibly (with much time/updates/re-installs) get my earlier apps back on the internal drive, my concern is - how can I stop MAS from once again 'over-updating' those apps? If the MAS can check and tell me that an app I want to download requires 10.7 or 10.8, it would seem to make equal sense for it to check first whether I have (on different drives) 10.6.8 and 10.8 versions of the same app, and ONLY update the most recent one, NOT all of them.
Makes me wonder if Apple thinks that NO ONE out here is running separate partitions or drives with different operating systems for different app needs. I am very sure that there are specfic-market applications out there that companies, laboratories and others need to get tasks done (and for which there is not yet so far a Lion or Mountain Lion-compatible version), so those people/companies/etc. are likely running different OS partitions or startup drives. So WHY does the MAS not check first? Or more importantly, is there some way to stop/limit the updates so ONLY one drive gets updated?

Hello Dahveed, thank you for your answer but this is not good at all. These are not core applications. For instance i want all my games to be on external Hard drive (for instance X3 is about 8 Gb). For having my home folder on external HD this is not good at all too.
Why i should change my way to work and manage my files just for a logical problem ?
Furthermore, the Mac App Store app detects i have the application already installed even if it is on external HD, so there are only 2 solutions : there is a bug into the mac app store application for managing apps OR this is pretty bad for users to have the apps sequestrated into the home folder.
You can see even iTunes with the music rights management system is able to let you have musics managed by user.
Do you have another solution ?
    Thank you

  • HT4928 How do I hide Mac App Store update requests?

I downloaded a free app in the Mac App Store many months ago, after I got bored of it I deleted de App but now the Mac App Store is requesting me to update the mentioned app which I don't want anymore. How can I make it stop requesting me the update?

Not in my case, somehow this app doesn't appear in my Purchased panel, just in my Updates panel.
    Here are the screens:
    This the Purchased Panel
And this is the Updates Panel

  • How can I get credit in Mac App Store for software installed from CD?

So I have purchased iLife '11 and iWork '09 disks.  I have had them installed on my MacBook Pro since 2010.  The Mac App Store has happily been updating the all the apps for as long as I can remember.  However, the MAS doesn't recognize the iLife and iWork apps as INSTALLED.  I tried a "fix" to drop a MAS receipt into the individual app's Packages, and it did change the MAS to show them as INSTALLED.  However, to test whether the MAS really saw them as something I had purchased and could then reinstall, I deleted the Numbers app.
Now the MAS shows me needing to spend the $20 to get Numbers back.  I know I could just dig out the DVD and install it again.
I am thinking of wiping my MBP drive and doing a clean install of Mountain Lion and am just trying to make sure I don't have to buy apps again, and am trying to get around re-installing from original DVDs and going through major time upgrading them through the MAS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You cannot get the MAS to recognize the iLife or iWork apps installed from disc and update them. These are two different versions of the apps. Falsifying the disc versions with copies of MAS receipts from other apps will not accomplish this, as it cannot be done. The apps from disc are updated through Software Update until they are at the end of their road. At that point you would need to purchase paid upgrades through the MAS.

  • Annoying unknown mac app store update

This morning I start up the Mac App Store and see there are 2 updates available. One for an application I know I have, the other for an application I do not have installed on my system. Clicking "Update All" spins and does nothing. It looks to be attempting to download the update for the application I do have.
When I manually click on the application I do not, to see what is going on a App Store login comes up with the "Enter the Apple ID you've used to purchase this app." I have seen another post saying this is due to installing non authorized Mac App Store applications then how can i know which app is connected with this update?
It has this update for this application, not installed, never was and will not either go away or process the real update. I have restarted, cleared out the cache.

  • Just did the Mac App Store update and now MBP won't boot?!

I just did the Mac App Store software update that required a restart and on bootup it just hangs at the spinning wheel and I can't get anywhere.  I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but that hasn't helped.  Any ideas here?  I can't believe that update toasted my MBP!
And I tried unplugging all my drives from it as well.

Were you trying to install Mavericks?  What do you see when you restart your Mac with the Option key held down?  Does it indicate the boot volumes is Mavericks or your previous system?  If it's Mavericks boot into the Revovery volume and try reiinstalling from there.

  • Mac app store update issues

I cannot update apps from the mac app store: it says I must sign into the account I used to purchase they app, and I am, and I have no other account. What's wrong?

Try resetting your Apple ID.  Apple - My Apple ID
If that doesn't help, install the v10.6.7 combo update. Mac OS X v10.6.7 Update Combo
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. Launch the MAS then try updating apps.
It's ok to install the combo if you already have v10.6.7 installed. It includes bugs fixes that may help.
    Still have problems...
