Hi,
i'm new to GB. running 09.
Here's what im trying to do.
I have an MP3 song from a band im working with, and need to take the intro to one of their songs and loop/stretch it out to about 30 seconds for a video im working on.
I think i have the basics down, but I get annoying pops/ticks between the portions I am repeating.
How can I "smooth" this out?

you need to refine your original edit so that the cut is at a zero-cross point. zoom in and far as you can to try to see where the waveform is at zero and use that as your looping point.

I don't know if I can help you with what's been recorded but may be able to assist in getting rid of the problem.
1. Don't know if the MOTU has a reset procedure on the rack unit, if so, do that first.
2. Turn off/disable wireless if you're using it.
3. In Logic raise the I/O buffers to 128
4. If you have a different slot, move the 424 card. One slot was noisy on many Macs.
(5) As mentioned, Make sure the audio interface is using Internal clock.

Tricks to get rid of pops

I am doing the audio version of a book and the narration track has some pops in it. The Analysis Clicks and Pops has cleaned up some, but there are others that do not change even at different Threshold settings. I have been able to do a little repair using Effects>EQ>Channel EQ or Fat EQ by lowering the higher Hz range, but I was wondering if anyone had some other tricks to getting rid of pops.

Are you in an audio file project or multi-track? One of the things I've done for VO (in Pro-tools, not STP), is to split the file just before the offending whoosh, then do a very short fade-in on the consonant sound.
If you're in a multi-track project in STP, you can split the file and do the fade in, mix in a tiny bit of Room tone if you need it. If you're in an audio file project, you can't do it like that.
I'm imagining this is like blowing into the mic, right? If so, that'll be a lot of low frequency, too, so the same trick as above would work.
If not, one thing that might help you is to see what frequency range is represented. Select just the word or consonant sound, and bring up Channel EQ, click analyzer to turn it on, and play the selection. You'll see a graph of what frequencies are represented in that sound, but only while it's playing.
It's a little fussy the first couple of times, but you'll know what to expect for the next time you get that "who" or similar.

Within the Pop-up box there is 2 boxes -- save -- cancel. I cannot save nor cancel. I have contacted Adobe and they said it is because I am using Firefox. Can you please get rid of this Pop-Up?

Can't get rid of POP account

I have an email account that I am moving from one computer to a new one.
It was configured as a POP account, and foolishly I configured it the same way again, on my new Yosemite machine, in Apple Mail.
I realized it would be better as an IMAP account though, so I trashed it in both Mail>Preferences>Accounts, and in System Preferences>Internet Accounts.
It stubbornly insists on setting itself up as a POP account again whenever I put in my email address again - it just automatically fills everything in that I once had, using POP with no choice for IMAP.
I have even contacted the ISP to create another account for me with a different name, but when I enter those credentials in a new account, it again defaults to POP (all the settings are filled in) and I can't change it.
Where are these settings lurking? I need to get rid of them to make it an IMAP account. I checked on their website and the IMAP settings are there, so it is possible.

Get rid of pop up window - GarageBand is attempting to complete a download

I tried to download the the free guitar and piano lessons on to my imac at home but was taking forever so I decided to quit the download. So I took my mac book pro to work to download them there because we have even faster internet downloads. So what I did when I got home was copy the lessons from the mac book pro to the imac (Macintosh HD, Library, Application Support, GarageBand, Learn to Play, Basic Lessons). Now when I open Garage Band from the iMac, I can see all the lessons under each tab; Guitar Lessons and Piano Lessons, however I keep getting this pop up window that reads "GarageBand is attempting to complete download. The lesson(s) will be available to use after the download is complete". Well I already copied them over from the laptop. How can I get rid of this window?

Try going to your User Folder and follow this path Library>>Preferences and delete this file com.apple.garageband.plist . This will reset Garageband preferences so if you have any custom preferences they will disappear, but it will reset Garageband as though you never started the download. It will not erase your lesson files though.

Also, my search engine has switched to something known as search-quick? I've tried a few different mac detox sites to no avail. Very frustrated. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this "virus" and pop-ups would be much appreciated!

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/LaunchDaemons
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
          com.something.daemon.plist
and
           com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
/Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
          com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.

Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

Cant get rid of pop-up ads

I can't seem to get rid of ads popping up on my computer. Most of the time they are ads that will open in a new window whenever I am on safari, but there are also ones that just pop up on the page I happen to be on. I think these ads might be a result of my having downloaded a mackeeper app by accident, as the ads started appearing after I had downloaded it. I have deleted the app about 2 months ago now but I can't get rid of these ads. I have adblocker installed and it is not helping one bit. Please help, as I am afraid these ads might damage my computer and they are extremely annoying.

How to get ride of pop up window that freezes browser

Sometimes I get these pop up windows that freezes the browser I don't want to click on the buttons so I have to force quit to close Safari. The last one i had even showed up after I reopened Safari. How can I avoid/get rid of these pop ups?

Ever since AdBlock stopped working in Safari, I've searched til no end for another program, or extension, that will get rid of all pop ups, pop unders, and YouTube ads and banners for Safari. Nothing.
This astounds me because I've never known Mac gurus to not be on top of somthing like this. Are there any alternatives? I only use Safari and not Firefox or Chrome.
I've downloaded Glimmer Blocker but it doesn't stop pop-unders at all. Is there a hack to get it to? What is everyone else doing? I can't imagine people are just putting up with the bombardment of ads! Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
