Get rid of thumbnails in events

Hi there,
Iphoto 9.4.3
OSX 10.8.5
I want to get rid of all the thumbnails in the events section of iphoto.
When I try to drag and drop the thumbnails I get an error claiming the new item cannot be found.  What do I do?
Cheers

You can not get rid of thumbnails unless you delete the photo totally - in an event drag it to the iPHoto trash and empty the iPhoto trash and then the system trash - I have no idea what you want to actaully do but you can not simply get rid of thumbnails

  • How to get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?

How do I get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?? ... ie when I spacebar on them I get the exclamation mark ;-(
I've tried rebuilding the library with all options checked; with all except the last 2; and just the first 2 on thumbnails; and the 2nd only. All to no avail!
I expect iPhoto Library Manager would do the trick but don't want to redo my faces stuff which I believe it can't cope with yet ;-()
Long story how I got here but I've re-added recovered full size files that iPhoto '08 "lost" and now in '09 I want to get rid of the thumbnails that point to the missing files.
I now have 2 thumbnails of most pictures - one that works to the full size and the other that gets an exclamation mark! ... I want to get rid of the latter.
I can obviously just press delete on the thumbnail but I need to do it ~ 20,000 times ;-()
A thought ...can I use search somehow to only return the duds?? ... then delete all.
    TIA
    Barry

You may have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
This will get rid of all the orphan thumbnails and give you a clean library. Before doing that you could follow the first 8 steps of Old Toad's Tutorial #1 which will write the keywords, titles and comments to the original files so they will be there in the new library.

  • Cant get rid of repeating future events. How to get rid of these and not have forever!! ??

Cant get rid of repeating future events.  I deleted the calendar with these events but now I still have these "ghost" events showing up!! How to get rid of these and not have forever!! Really irritating, wont use repeat events ever again!! Have this problem on iphone and ipad even though deleted calendar from both!! Which BTW deleted my email connected with it too which was really irritating.

Where was the one that you moved to your desktop before you moved it to the desktop?
I really don't understand what you're trying to say. If I have a folder in A, and I move it to B, then the folder will be in B. There is no duplication. I still have only one folder, only the location is different.
Furthermore, your desktop is on your hard drive. Everything is on your hard drive.

  • How to get rid of thumbnails in conversations in Lync 2013

After the last update Lync 2013 shows thumbnails next to every IM in the conversation window. Is there a way to get rid of these? I couldn't find anything in the options. It takes up a lot of space and is completely useless for me, as admin has disabled
showing pictures in Lync anyway, so the thumbnails only show the gray-white default picture.

As far as I know, the short answer is no after the CU3 Lync 2013 client update is applied.

  • Out of memory on hard drive but can't get rid of clips in Event Library

My hard drive has only 6gb left on it so I'm trying to free up space by deleting some of the clips in my Event Library. When I go to File - Move Rejected Clips to Trash, I get a message telling me there's not enough memory left to complete the operation. I have over 150 gb of material in the Event Library and most of the rest of the memory is used up in iPhoto. Also, previously, I tried to move a bunch of stuff to my external hard drive but had a horrible time recovering clips from it. Can you help?

Hi all... I had a very similar issue.  I had a hard drive replaced by Apple on my iMac due to a total hard drive failure.  I attempted to restore my last time machine back up through my time capsule but I get some type of sparse bundle package error.  It appears that something is coming back from the back up as I only have about 180GB remaining space out of 1TB.  Any advice?  It appears that Apple had re-installed the latest version of Lion back to my hard drive.  I'm completely distraught here as like Romantic Heretic, I have over a decade of information currently lost.
Any help with step by step directions would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

  • How do I get rid of multiple calendar events on my iPhone?

iPhone calendar is showing multiple instances of the same event for most of my iCal calendars. I am not using iCloud, although I tried to a while ago and the problem began then. The problem stopped but has returned. I have signed out of iCloud, exported all calendars, trashed the contens of User/Library/Calendars and re-imported the calendars. I have done this many times in fact and still have the same result. Some events repeats as many as 15 times on a single day. I am using OS 10.7.5 with iCal 5.0.3. The phone has IOS 5.1.1. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

  • TS4118 How do you get rid of duplicate calendar events on iPad?

I just synced my iPad with my MacBook (which I do all the time) but this time, it resulted  in duplicating all my iPad calendar events (events do not appear as duplicates on my MacBook).  This happened immediately after I enabled iCloud syncing of my calendar.  I have now disabled Icloud syncing and I just synced my iPad with my MacBook again.  The events are still appearing in duplicate on my iPad.

iTunes settings for iPad and iPhone are independent.  If your iPhone doesn't have duplicate entries, check your settings when plugged into iTunes, then use the same settings for your iPad.  But, it really sounds as if you've simply enabled calendar syncing directly from your Mac when it's plugged into iTunes.  This will then update your iPad's calendar with whatever's in your Desktop calendar when you plug it in to iTunes.  Uncheck this setting in iTunes when you next have your iPad plugged in to sync, and the duplicates should disappear, leaving only those events pulled down from MobileMe.  The plug in sync option is for people who don't use MobileMe.

  • How to start from scratch with iCal (getting rid of duplicate iCal events)

For reasons I can't figure out, all my iCal events are duplicated 6 times in iCal. None of these events can be deleted (either by hitting the Delete key or via the Edit menu).
I tried using an AppleScript for this purpose (http://www.johnmaisey.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/applescripts/ ) but it doesn't work, at least on my 10.5.1 Mac.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch over to Daylite, for both my Calendar and Address Book functions, but until then, it'd be nice to start fresh with iCal, since I'm also trying out a .mac account for the first time, and it might be handy to have a clean calendar backup.
Is there a method for just starting fresh with iCal?

see this thread that may help you with duplicate events: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1192813&tstart=0
    hope this helps

  • Can't get rid of a time event on iCal; it's there on everyday

Made some schedules for the month but when I go to print, there's this "8:00PM" time on everyday. I don't know where that came from and I can't figure out how to eliminate it.
It also shows up on a NEW calendar too! (It shows only when printing in all instances)
It even shows up when I share calendar and it's opened up by someone else.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thank you!

    You're welcome.

  • HOW CAN I GET RID OF THE EVENTS CATEGORY?

There are days that I will add only one picture to iPhoto and it becomes an event. Every time I add a new picture to iPhoto 8 I get a new event. This past week I have been renaming some albums and adding new albums and folders and that has had a very undesired result of now telling me I have 26,624 items in 3,071 events. That, 26,624 number, incidentally, is the same number of photos I have in iPhoto.
If I try to delete an event, I find I am also deleting the pictures in that event from my main iPhoto library. I have also noticed that the events in my events area are randomly numbered, not in any sort of order.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, iPhoto 8 does not recognize my camera (Canon PowerShot S5IS) when I try to add photos to iPhoto.

    cmiles:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can't get rid of the Events mode as it's the basic container feature of iPhoto which is organized by date. You can always drag that single event onto another one in the Event mode to join them, thus getting rid of the single event. You can also do that in the Photos mode, with Event names displayed so it's like the old rolls, by dragging a photo or photos into another event.
Regarding the problem of the camera not being recognized that's a tougher problem to fix. A workaround is to use Image Capture to upload the photos to a folder on the desktop and then import the folder into iPhoto.
One user fixed his similar problem with an Archive and Install of Leopard and a reinstall of iPhoto from the disk it came on. As I said, not as easy a fix.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I have absolutely no use for "Events" in iPhoto: can I get rid of this concept? I am importing photos maybe one or a dozen times a day and cannot avoid creating a new event each time. Or can I?

As my long question implies (sorry, should have kept it shorter) I have a problem with being forced to have Events in my iPhoto'11 9.2.3 (629.52) on my MacBook 10.6.8. My habit is to unload the camera constantly, whether I have taken a single shot or a whole series. Each new addition creates an Event which actually bothers me!
Is there a way of avoiding this? If I erase an event from iPhoto the photos will disappear from the Library it seems ... Please help with your advice. Thanks! Sigrid.

    Thanks, OT!
When I look at my odd(?) habits of dealing with iPhoto anyone will see that I have a very simplistic approach: I never let one single Library get bigger than 300 or 400 photos, then back it up as is and make a separate, manual backup of the different albums as named by myself on an external HD. Then I delete the Library as such from my Mac but can reinstate it from the backups as I please. The backups are properly labelled, of course.
I get dizzy when I read about libraries of thousands of photos, of keywords, ratings, smart albums etc. because this just wouldn't apply to my so-called system. So instead of using Faces and Places, my album names show clearly what's in them - "skies and scenery" Euskadi, "bugs and birds at Fancourt", "inventories", "people" (separate for my circle of people and characters from media), "my dog" etc., usually a bunch of 20 albums or so depending on my whereabouts. Quite manageable!
I've been doing just fine with this method and would recommend it ... but others are much brighter ;-) and use the offered (and to me too advanced) features of iPhoto, if they prefer these. Now that I know how to get rid of Events by merging them into one, I at least feel a little freer there.
Well, it's 1:25AM my time, gotta go ...

  • How to get rid of mutiple events showing in calenders for the same event

How do you get rid of mutiple events that show up in your calender of the same event. It doesn't matter what kind of event it is whether personel or yearly holiday it shows up mutiple times in the month view, list view. I've gone through and deleted events manually and said for all future events but this is time consuming, because you have to do it for each event. Is there a qicker way of getting this done? Also just an off note I found out that my bluetooth headsets stop ringing throught the ear piece like they did before the upgrade, any insight into this?

If I understand your question correctly...
    try the following
from Sources, choose the greyed out streaming library that you want to be rid of...in your case, make sure it is the right one, since they both have the same name.
You should get a screen that says "Library Unavailable" with 2 menu choices below that, "OK" and "Disconnect from iTunes".
Choose disconnect from iTunes and the library should be gone from your Sources.

  • Getting rid of event year in iMovie 10

I am just getting started with iMovie, having just completed the Lynda.com training. My setup seems to create an extra layer in the library. It goes like this:
    iMovie Library
Year/date (with a little calendar icon)
    Event (with a star icon)
    Project
MMy question is, how do I get rid of the year/date? I don't really care to group my clips by date, I am more interested in grouping them by theme (or events).
    Thank you.

well that's embarrassing. I have figured it out. Right-click on iMovie Library and select Sort Events By... Name.
In all fairness it is a little confusing because if you go to the View menu you get the option to Sort By -> but this one only applies to clips within an event.

  • How do I get rid of event details in iCal in iOS?

I'm trying to learn how to get rid of event details in iCal on my iPhone. With the event itself "edit" comes up when I touch the item. For event details, however, the "edit" option does not appear.

Not quite sure what you mean by "details", but after touching Edit for the event, touch the lines with the name and location and a cursor shows with the keyboard to edit those.
Note that you won't be able to edit Exchange synced calendars.
Also note that "iCal" is the OS X app.  The iOS app on your iPhone is "Calendar."

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
