Get spinning beachball whenever I click on slide with attached movie-help!
Running 10.4.11 and Keynote 3.02 on a mini with 1GB RAM
I converted an earlier presentation (using Keynote in iWorks '05) to the iWorks '06 app, and it seemed like it went okay. Editing text is fine. No problems.
However, if I click on any slide that has a video attached I get the spinning beachball. The only way out is to force quit. I've repeated this scenario now four times, so it's no fluke. It ran fine in '05 but I had to upgrade for Tiger...so it's not an option to go backward.
Any idea what is happening, and is there any way around it? This presentation has to be made in about 10 days.

If you drag the video from the document to the desktop, is the video playable in QuickTime on the desktop?

Logic pro 9.1.8 won't load and I get spinning beachball of death
I have ML that is up to date and logic studio 9.1.8. When I try to run 9.1.8 (1700.67) (64-bit) I get to a splash screen that says "Searching for Audio Unit plug-ins (Apple:AUNetReceive).....and I have the spinning beachball of the death. I have to use force quit the app.
I have looked at a few threads and can't find my answer. Should I trash permissions or reload the app after I get rid of it using app cleaner?
OR is this a simple fix?

I haven't tried to open it on my MBP, but I assume I will get the same result.Sorry to state the obvious (?) but you are not Updating/Upgrading.
You are DOWN grading if you are going from 9.1.8 to 9.0.2
If you want to downgrade, likely you will need to ERASE, and reinstall Logic.

MacBook Pro spinning wheel whenever I click on anything.

I have a MacBook Pro and I keep getting a spinning wheel everytime I click on a page.Use Recovery Mode. Then choose Disk Utility and Repair Disk, click first on the top "WDXXXX" drive name, then after that is checked, click on "My Mac Hard Drive" whatever volume-name you use, and repair that.
Do a Safe Boot. Hold Shift key.
Click on page, as in Safari? clear and reset the cache, history, favorites, top sites. Open Safari in Safe Mode. Disable any 3rd party extensions. Turn off plug-ins.
Has the problem changed? stopped? something else?
Mavericks and Safari and MacBook Pro have their own forum. -
I have updated Firefox to 3.6.16, and Flash Player to the new 10.2.153.1, and all the other "extensions" and "add-ons" work just fine. I can't figure out what the problem is except to say that, I have not been able to "update" the "plugins" in Firefox.
Every day I have been trying to see if there is any change, but each time the message box reads the same: "Plugin Finding Service Error...." etc, as stated in the "Question" above.Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
You can check the permissions for all sites on the about:permissions page, via the location bar.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Keynote freezes playing slide with QT movie
Hello there
I have a Keynote presentation of slides, one of which is a short Quicktime movie. The whole presentation is set to advance each slide automatically, and play the QT movie automatically too. I need the presentation to loop, and it plays through once no problem, but when it gets to the QT movie for the second time, it freezes just after it starts to play it. I've tried exporting the movie in different formats with no luck. It happens whether i've got the Mac hooked up to a second monitor or not.
It's running on a MBP 2.5GHz Intel C2D with 4GB RAM, on OSX 10.6.8. Keynote version 5.1.1

Thanks for this. I'd checked that the transition delay on the slide was longer than the movie itself. Deleting the whole slide and importing the QT movie again worked, thank you very much!
I've also had an email from the iWork team asking me to send them the file, so i'll send them it to see what they make of it. There must have been something on the slide itself, as even importing a completely different movie brought the same problem.

Mail message gets garbled... but only when sent with attachment to Android?
I'm getting heat from my employer because I use a Mac and he doesn't (I use an iPhone and he uses an Android, see the consistency??). Regardless. When I send an email with windows-friendly attachment, he receives it fine on his PC, but on his Android, the message is garbled (attachment fine). If I log in via Safari to DeskPilot (our corporate email client) and send the same message and attachment, all is fine. Oh, and if we really want to get odd, a co-worker does the same thing and his message comes though empty, not garbled.
Ideas, thoughts? This is causing a major migraine for me.

apache
trac
I want these servers to be able to send mail to, e.g.,
webmaster@localhost
root@localhost
trac@localhost
I have created aliases for these addresses in:
/etc/postfix/aliases
(I have also executed "newaliases"). These aliases all point to my own user account on the same machine (my iMac).
Finally, I have a .forward file at the root level of my OS X account that forwards all local Unix mail to my normal e-mail account handled by my ISP.
This way, all local mail sent to "webmaster2, "root", "trac", etc., should be sent to my normal e-mail address that I monitor with Mail.app.
*This all worked perfectly with Mac OS X 10.4.x,* so I know it should be possible. However, I have only now just tried to set this up 10.5.x (Leopard) and, clearly, I am having problems.
Perhaps this motivation for wanting to send e-mail via the Unix mail system will help others understand my situation, and I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks very much in advance. -
Long delay while loading a slide with a movie
As in the topic. I use Keynote08 and have 40 sec movie in the slide. It takes about 30 seconds to load this slide, during this time nothing happens. I tried nearly all combination of formats/codecs, nothing works. This is a wonderful software, but I cant use Keynote for presentations while the public has to wait until the next slide loads.

I keep getting the "unable to download try again later" for two movies, help
I have two new movies that I can't finish downloading onto my iPad mini. I have plenty of space but keep getting the unable to download, try again later message. I signed out of my apple account and signed back in, no help. I shut my iPad off and tried again, no help. I'm currently trying to download them to my computer so I get just sync my account but one of the movies is in HD. HELP PLEASE!

I got a replacement of this iPhone 4. Probably a month or so. I've been taken good care of this phone, but I keep getting this pop up saying "Charging is not supported with this accessory". I've blowed on this 30 pic connector, cleaned it and everything and there still haven't been a solution. I restored it and restore it to a backup. I have to disconnect my iPhone in order to get it to work. Any suggestions? Help?
No, it is a problem with YOUR phone, not all phones. My phone does not have this problem. You have dirt or moisture in the connector on the bottom of the phone, a bent pin, or a bad cable. Get a magnifying glass and look into the connector. Clean out the lint and fluff that is almost certainly there. A dry toothbrush is a good tool, or a wood toothpick. Inspect for bent pins. If you see a red dot in the connector opening it means that your phone has water damage.

Spinning Beachball: what's going on?
Hello everyone. I keep getting the spinning beachball with even the simplest of actions. What do I mean? Allow me to elaborate. This is happening so often that I've ran several virus scans, I've done the permissions things, run daily, weekly and monthly maintenance scripts, deleted plists, etc. Here are a few of the scenarios. I use the mouse to use the scrolling bar: I get the spinning beach ball
I click to open a new tab: spinning beach ball
I drag a file from the Pictures folder to the desktop: spiining beachball and the message Moving to desktop (I timed this and it literally spinned for four minutes before the file showed up on the desktop.
I get an application dialog window prompt. I click Ok, Next, whatever: spinning beachball.
I click a link: spinning beachball
It doesn't always happen but it does very often. Out of frustration I restart the machine. That seems to help for a short time. Any ideas?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped during that interval. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Reset Slide with Audio on Enter CP7 HTML5
I have a slide with some audio and animation (captions fading in and out) on the timeline that is triggered by a play/pause button with some Advanced Actions attached to it to toggle the buttons and resume and pause the timeline.
However, if I navigate through this slide to another slide my buttons get confused when I re-enter the slide with audio and require me to click/toggle them a couple of times to get them to work.
The solution I think I need is to be able to reset the slide with audio every time I enter it. Is this possible and can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Many thanks.Buttons are text buttons sitting side-by-side, not stacked. The buttons appear only for the duration of the slide.
The result I wanted was a total reset of the slide, essentially for the play button to be visible each time and for the audio/animation to be restored to their original states. This has now been achieved thanks to your guidance.
I've switched a couple of things (see screen grabs) to enable the play button to be visible on entering the slide as I don't want the audio/animation to autoplay, I'd prefer this to be user-initiated. I know you'll know what I've done by looking at the screen grabs but I've included some notes in case this might help anyone else.
1. Set slide to display play button, hide pause button and continue to the first pause that is on my timeline (in this case the pause appears after 1.5 seconds) on enter:
2. When play button is clicked it is hidden and the pause button is displayed. Continue plays the slide.
3. When the pause button is clicked it disappears and the play button is displayed. The slide is paused.

My iPhoto is not responding. Whenever I click on the iPhoto icon I get a twirling beachball. It is as if the machine is looking in the wrong place for the photos. How can I see where the machine is looking to find out if this is really the problem. How can I see the path?
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then the problem lies with your current library.
If that's the case Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I want to download apps, but whenever I click download, it does the spinning in a circle thing but never asks for my password and never downloads, I want to be able to download apps again! How do I fix this?
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

Spinning beachball every time I r-click a file
So, this issue is with my computer at work. I normally wouldn't come to the support forums for work-related issues, but our IT support here only know PC's.
Here's the problem: Every time I right-click on a file, I get a spinning beachball for 2-3 minutes.
Here are some other system specs:
2yr old Mac Pro
2 x 2.66 GHz Quad-Core
12 GB RAM
This only began happening after IT had me install and run some 3rd party optimization/fix-it utility called "OnyX"--ironically to try and solve another issue (which it didn't). Ever since I ran that program, I've had this spinning beachball problem.
This is so frustrating, because I never have these types of problems with my own, personal Apple products at home. I wish... WISH... they would hire IT staff here that know how to NOT eff up our Macs... but that's a personal rant for another day.

Two years ago all Mac Pro came with 10.6.0 as of sept 2009.
Onyx is not really for fixing and the OS forum has more than a couple people that had the same bad luck using Onxy and other cleaning programs. They can and will do more and have a lot of features. Knowing which to use when. In he past "Applejack" was darn easy and safe to use.

Clone system to another drive and repair and test booting there (do safe boot also first time)
Then tell us and focus on the underlying issue you began with - but don't mention.
External devices, drivers, an update or install.
As for 2009 Mac Pro there is/was a bug in audio, that affected all models and iTunes as well, and was never issued for 10.5.8 users, only for 10.6.2 and above. So you really should look at getting it - a clean install on a new drive. Maybe that is the direction to take.
