    thanks a lot....for intrest....
    I have found some details about the Julian calendar as follows:
    The Julian date for 2006: JAN: 01:12:01:59 is 2453737.00138
    245 represent the year digits for year 2006
    3737 represent the date fir 1 Jan
    .00138 represents the time for 12:01:59
    Julian date change as per every day 12 noon it increase one digit in it.
    As per ref from
    http://www.aavso.org/observing/aids/jdcalendar.shtml
    Also chk this calendar where Julian date is 20. October 2006 for 02 November 2006
    As per ref from
    http://www.calendar.sk/julian_calendar-en.php
    I have tried the pure GregorianCalendar class from jdk1.4 API and its setGregorianChange method but not getting as per the expected Julian date format. Using the setGregorianChange() i have setting the cutover date to Long.MAX_VALUE it means GregorianCalendar now have to act as per the Julian calendar ...so after setting the cutover date it return me changed date using getGregorianChange() but that was not the Julian date of the current date...as expected or as per above both scenario. Even though the last two digits are nowhere equal to the actual Julian date.
    Program
    GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar();
    cal.setGregorianChange(new Date(Long.MAX_VALUE)); // setting the calendar to act as a pure Julian calendar.
    // cal.set(Calendar.DATE, new Date().getDate()); // seting the current date
    // Date todayJD = cal.getGregorianChange(); // getting the changed date after the setGregorianChange
    Date todayJD = cal.getTime(); // getting the calculated time of todays Julian date
    SimpleDateFormat sdfJulianDate = new SimpleDateFormat("yyDDD");
    SimpleDateFormat sdfJuliandayOfYear = new SimpleDateFormat("DDD");
    System.out.println("today Date = " + new Date());
    System.out.println("Today as julian date = " + sdfJulianDate.format(todayJD));
    System.out.println("Today as day of year = " + sdfJuliandayOfYear.format(todayJD));
    OUTPUT:
    USING : Date todayJD = cal.getGregorianChange();
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:17:05 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 94229
    Today as day of year = 229
    USING : cal.set(Calendar.DATE, new Date().getDate());
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:19:22 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 06319
    Today as day of year = 319
    USING : Date todayJD = cal.getTime();
    Today Date = Thu Nov 02 15:17:59 IST 2006
    Today as julian date = 06306
    Today as day of year = 306
    There is one another concept i found to get the Julian day of the year as per the Julian day chart mention on nasa site (http://angler.larc.nasa.gov/armsgp/JulianDayChart.html) and i m getting the moth of the year that is 306 for nov 02 2006 using getTime() method in above code then the out put is right for Julian day. But it was not as per the expected Julian date format. So in conclusion we can only able to retrieve the day of year for the Julian calendar. hope their will be a solution for this problem in java api ....else we allways have to depend upon the third party api that was not accepteble some times.....
    Kindly chk chart on the site

  • Getting the difference between 2 dates

    Hi,
    I am creating a Date object (using today;s day, month and year. hours and minutes come from a config file) and getting the difference between this date and the current date and time.
    My code is as follows:
    I am passing 07:30 into the method as the parameter aSstart_time.
    Calendar newCalendar = Calendar.getInstance(Locale.UK);
        SimpleDateFormat dtformat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yy HH:mm");
        int lIYear = newCalendar.get(newCalendar.YEAR);
        int lIMonth = newCalendar.get(newCalendar.MONTH);
        int lIDay = newCalendar.get(newCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH);
        String lSstartHrs = aSstart_time.substring(0,aSstart_time.indexOf(":"));
        //System.out.println(">>>>>>>>> THE HOURS IS: " + lSstartHrs);
        String lSstartMins = aSstart_time.substring(aSstart_time.indexOf(":")+1,aSstart_time.length());
        //System.out.println(">>>>>>>>> THE MINS IS: " + lSstartMins);
        java.util.Date ldStartTime = new java.util.Date(lIYear,lIMonth,lIDay, Integer.parseInt(lSstartHrs),Integer.parseInt(lSstartMins));
        System.out.println("Year: " + lIYear);
        System.out.println("Month: " + lIMonth);
        System.out.println("Day: " + lIDay);
        System.out.println("Hour: " + Integer.parseInt(lSstartHrs));
        System.out.println("Min: " + Integer.parseInt(lSstartMins));
        System.out.println("The number of milliseconds for current time is: " + newCalendar.getTime().getTime());
        System.out.println("The number of milliseconds for 07:30 is: " + ldStartTime.getTime());
        System.out.println("calendar time: " + dtformat.format(newCalendar.getTime()).toString());
        System.out.println("created time: " + dtformat.format(ldStartTime).toString());
        if(newCalendar.getTime().getTime() < ldStartTime.getTime()){
          System.out.println("The current time is less than the config time (07:30)");
        else{
          System.out.println("The time is greater than 07:30");
        }When I run this program at 10:06am I get the following output:
    Year: 2006
    Month: 1
    Day: 15
    Hour: 7
    Min: 30
    The number of milliseconds for current time is: 1139997962321
    The number of milliseconds for 07:30 is: 61098132600000
    calendar time: 15-02-06 10:06
    created time: 15-02-06 07:30
    The current time is less than the config time (07:30)
    The Date.gettime() method should measure the number of milliseconds after 01-01-1970 so the number of milliseconds for the current time (10:06am) should be greater than the number of milliseconds for 07:30. A you can see in the above output this is not the case.
    Anybody have any idea why this is happening. Am I using the .gettime() method for the correct purpose.
    Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    It is beacause Calendar use fully defined year as parameter, so Calendar.set(year + 1900, month, date, hrs, min) is (almost) equivalent to new Date(year, month, date, hrs, min)Example:    int year = 85; // old way of specifying a year in a Date
        int month = 3;
        int date = 12;
        int hrs = 12;
        int min = 0;
        Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
        cal.set(year + 1900, month, date, hrs, min);
        Date d = new Date(year, month, date, hrs, min);
        System.out.println(d);
        System.out.println(cal.getTime());You will obtain the same date (except seconds and miliseconds in this case, as they probably won't be zero with Calendar.getInstance(); )

  • Get the month from a date column with the calculated column

    I am trying to get the month from a date field with the help of calculated column. However I get this syntax error whenever I want to submit the formula:
    Error
    The formula contains a syntax error or is not supported.
    the default language of our site is German and [datum, von] is a date field.

    Hi,

    Calculated (calculation based on other columns)
    Today
    Date and Time
    Current MM-YY is calculated value with formula as

  • How to get the number of current active external modes?

    hi all,
    I need to get the number of currently active external modes. This can be done by calling function THUSRINFO. But this only works propperly, if you are logged on only once. If you are logged on more than one time then the function returns several entries in the parameter USR_TABLE. The entries mainly differ in the first parameter TID (type UTID, INT4) "terminal-identification" but how can I know which is the valid one for my current session. Functions TERMINAL_ID_GET, SPH_TERMINAL_IDENTIFY and SPH_TERMINAL_ID_GET dont work.
    Or is there another way to get the number of active external sessions?

  • Getting the lowest and highest dates from a column

    <Praise>Numbers is absolutely incredible. Kudos to the Apple team. From the first time I've used it, it has enabled this average spreadsheet user to create awe-inspiring layouts from average data. I'm extremely excited to see where Apple brings </Praise>
    What I am trying to do though is this. I have a column with dates in it. I'm trying to get the lowest and highest dates in that column for a report. For instance, "Date range between 7/1/2007 and 9/11/2007".
    Any help would be very much appreciated

    Let me also pose this. I've been asked to create a two date ranges for this from the same data. This report will need to be updated every two months. Is there a way to specify the spreadsheet to select only rows with a date between X and Y for processing?
    Or, more likely, is there a way to access a cell name by reference from another field? Such that I have a "Current From", "Current To", "Historic From", and "Historic To" column. The value of these fields could be references to a row number that has the beginning and ending date, so that it selects all of the rows in between.
    So I would have something like SUM(SourceSheet :: SourceTable :: A{CurrentTable :: A2} : SourceSheet :: SourceTable :: A{CurrentTable :: A3}) where CurrentTable A2 and A3 are "2" and "6" for rows A2:A6. Is this even possible? Hopefully I'm overcomplicating it and there's a magical function out there that I've missed.

    I-photo:  I used 2 cameras to take pictures on a trip --- i have put the pictures from both cameras into an album --- when i click on view and then sort by date, the pictures do not sort by date --- any ideas on how to get the pics sorted by date?

    Select all the photos that you need to change, then click the "Photos" menu and choose "Adjust Date and Time".
    If you add a year, it will adjust all the photos that you selected by adding a year (so if you accidentally select one of the photos that already has "2012", that will change to "2013").
