Also im geting a mac por of X-mas with 4 tb of data i think.... Not shure

You raise a number of issues.
You need a licensed copy of Mac OS X 10.4 to run that operating system on any machine not currently licensed for it. Hint: no machine equipped with Mac OS 9.2.x is likely licensed for Mac OS X.
You cannot install OS X of any version without first installing a firmware update or insuring that such a firmware update has already been installed. Without FireWire, you undoubtedly have iMac 350 MHz models, and they very likely have not been updated yet.
There is no iMac G3 manufactured in 2008. If you have tray-drive equipped models, they are not adequately equipped nor can they be expanded to support Mac OS X, in terms of realistically satisfying performance.
The size limit of the original iMacs applies only to the startup volume: it must be no more than 8 gigabytes in size. Your LAN raid concept is fundamentally flawed - forget that idea.
A Power Macintosh 7300 will run AppleShare, for which you must again be licensed. It will not support Mac OS X Server.
I could go on, but you face severe limitations as to available software, both OS and application software, and only limited expansion opportunities, particularly with regard to memory.

  • Questions about iMac Core i7 Photoshop performance

    Hello Everyone,
I am in the market for a new Mac and was thinking about the iMac Core i7.
Now my question is, how the performance of Photoshop is on that machine ?
I work on 24 Mpix raws and occasionaly on 30-40+ Mpix raws from Medium Format cameras.
My files quickly get up to 100 layers and I only work in 16 bit, so I am a little bit concerned if such an iMac would meet my expectations and the files get 1 or 2  GB big. I would definately pump as much RAM inside as possible to get more speed.
    What are your experiences ?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much  in advance.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

Thank you guys for your answers.
If I am going to buy that iMac i definately would buy some Kingston Ram, not the apple one way too overpriced.
I am also concerned about the R/W speed of the iMac. What are you experiences with FW drives as Raid-sets ?
I also can't wait for CS 5. The 64 Bit version would definately speed up things and photoshop could finally access more than 3 GB of RAM and hope this will end my concernes about scratch disks.
@Wade: Partitioning the internal hard drive and using the second partition as scratch disk is not good. The needle of the drive would go crazy skipping between partitions.Never have the scratch disk on the same disk as photoshop. Also it would decrease your hard drives lifetime.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

  • HT202696 FIND Technical information about imac by serial number

I would like to know if it is possible to find technical information about my iMac using its serial number as I do not know what year it was produced.

You can check that by clicking on the Apple logo on the top left and then clicking on About This Mac. You will get all your information about your iMac there.
Alternatively, you can check it by posting your serial number on Apple's website:

  • Questions about iMac

Hello! I have alway been using PC's but this time I'm thinking of buying an iMac.
The one I've been looking at is iMac 27" 2.8GHz Intel Quad-Core i5/4GB/1TB/Radeon HD 5750 (1GB)/SD. I love the easy and simple look of the iMac but my quest is will I be able to run the latest games on this iMac? How about the temperature etc?

Buy an iMac 27" - good luck! I bought one 2 weeks ago - bought a new base station - bought indigestion tablets to try and ease the chest pains!! I have had NOTHING but HUGE problems trying to get onto the Net - get mail - and continual hassles with the **** thing asking for a password every time I want to do the simplest of tasks such as install an application like say Photoshop!!! I have had a 2 hour discussion with a very charming and extremely helpful young lady at Apple support in Singapore who guided me through the set up for Internet access etc and the FINAL solution was - guess what? - erase the hard drive 'cause there was something evil on the hard drive that was stopping the access!! Erase the hard drive? This is a brand new iMac straight from Apple and the hard drive is ******?!!!!! I did so and guess what number 2 - it didn't work either!! It is now 18 days of this rubbish and if I don't get an answer from apple support when I ring tomorrow the iMac is on its way back to Apple for a replacement/refund/repair - take your pick!!

  • Worrying about iMac with Logic Pro. (i mean big fan noise)

    hi.
i am thinking about buying a new iMac with Apogee Ensemble. but i am a bit worried about the fan noise from imac when i use lots of plug-ins and etc.
well... the best way is to buy a Mac Pro and stash the machine in a machine room or a cabinet or something. but the budget is low here.
does anyone have any good ideas? do i have to take the fan noises? or is it really so powerful so that makes no such big fan noises?
    thanks

I have no doubt that you and I haven't been reading the same posts, but I was under the impression that most people were much more infuriated that there was no announcement or run up to the launch (and thus they bought L9 just before).
Actually, we have been reading the same posts! Apple, historically, have never (and I do mean NEVER) pre-announce releases of Logic Pro. They are always announced on release day, even going back to before the Mac App Store, when boxed versions were still available. Apple do have quite a generous refund policy, so I suggest that anyone who feels cheated could always 'report an issue' via the link in the receipt email and try and obtain a refund. Personally, I would never buy a current version of Logic Pro until July was over, but as I've been using it for over 11 years now (before Apple bought Emagic), I guess I'm very familiar with the release times.
So why not keep support for EXSManager/Keymap, or at least a download link for paying customers. There is no other program that can do what it did unless you want to go back to an old version of Logic and utilise functionality that they removed yet is still relevant today.
Redmatica wouldn't have been allowed (under the terms and conditions of the buyout), to keep making the EXSManager, it would have been illegal as it's now an Apple product. That's like saying why didn't Emagic keep making a version of Logic for the PC after Apple bought them, because they obviously weren't allowed under the terms and conditions because it became an Apple product. While I can understand your frustration, you also have to understand the legalities that take place during takeovers and buyouts, as it's really not as simple as it may at first appear.

  • Why was my discussion about iMac deleted?

Why did Apple delete my comments: what was wrong about them? find comments here: https://sites.google.com/site/bluelineonscreen/

I would like to contact Apple about my iMac problem with the lil blue line on the screen...... how can I do this?
    Call Apple...
    http://www.apple.com/contact/
or go to the nearest Apple store Genius Bar and tell them of your problem.
And more specifically i would like to know the cause and why so many people are experiencing the same thing over and over again...
Nobody here will be able to answer that question. We are all users just like you - volunteering our time. You can ask that question when you are contacting Apple.

  • I want to ask Allen Jones about iMAC OSX 10.6.8

I guess now this cannot be updated and the same for safari 5.1.0.  Going forward what will I do?  At one point in a previous question regarding these matters, Allen Jones said to show a certain screen.  I tried to copy and paste it in my older question but I was unable to update my question to A. Jones...
If it is possible to just go buy another more current O.S. is is easy to install?  Will I need to take it somewhere to do that?  Is it the same with Safari?  Will I need to buy more software?

    Phil or Neil,

I wondered about updating to YOSEMITE, and the Best Buy Geek said since I have Snow Leopard I couldn't just click a link but would FIRST have to obtain Mountain Lion or Lion on the secondary market (i.e. Ebay), install that, then upgrade in the Apple store....Is that so?  Should I do it?  I did read a lot of negative comments people wrote about installing Yosemite...I am leery, but yet if it is something I should really do I will try.
    ADVISE please...
    Thanks.
That depends on your exact version of Snow Leopard. The Mac App Store was introduced in Snow Leopard v 10.6.6  So if you don't have that version you will need to update to that first. No need to go to Lion or Mountain Lion.
To check your version go to The Apple Menu of the top left corner, and the on "About this Mac"  That screen will tell you what version you have.
If you have at least 10.6.6. you should have the Mac App Store App on your doc or in your Applications folder. You can use that to install Yosemite.

  • Lotsa questions about imac

I am new to Apple; the book which came with it was ****-poor. So these will be easy questions:
    1) PG 11 says my imac comes with "Airport Extreme technology." But as I look at a tutorial, it appears I have to buy something else. Do I? I have an Airport Express which I used with my 2003 Compaq Presario. If so, Apple has been very misleading, implying there is technology that is new.
    2) There is no documentation other than stating this is an Imac. I have no idea if this is OSX leopard, snow leopard, or any other animal. How do I find this out?
Now that it's my third day with this computer, a welcome email has been sent and includes a mini tutorial for former PC users which is pretty good, wish I'd seen it sooner.

Your iMac comes with Airport which is wireless networking. You can connect to your Airport Express by starting Airport Utility. You can access Airport Utility by holding down Command Key-Spacebar and then typing Airport Utility, AU will automatically locate your Airport Express.

The easiest way to find out is to click the  in the upper left of your screen and then click About this Mac. It will tell you what version of OS X you have. 10.6.x is Snow Leopard, 10.5.x is Leopard, 10.4.x is Tiger. Assuming you bought the machine new or refurbished from Apple it came with Snow Leopard, that has been shipping for over a year.

  • Worried about iMac temperature

My iMac's CPU temperature monitor sometimes goes up to 175˚ Fahrenheit, and stays at 140˚ Fahrenheit constantly. I'm worried about it. What is the average temperature for an iMac? Should I be worried at these temps? Is it damaging to be at these levels for an extended period of time?
    Thanks for your help!
EDIT: Oops! I put this in the wrong forum. Could a mod please move it? Sorry...

    Max, welcome to the discussions!
Mine stays around 150-150F also, depending on what I am doing. I wouldn't be concerned about that, bit 175F is pretty warm. Forunately, your Mac should shut itself down before any damage occurs.
You might want to open yours up and remove some dust and such it there is any around. Clear the vents also. Some people have reported that doing so has reduced their temps.

  • No question, just a comment. Why don't more people know about iMacs?

Having put up with frustrating PC based computers for the past 16 years or so, I can't believe the beauty of a Mac.
Simple, clean, easy to set up, everything just works, it doesn't need rebooting every 5 minutes...... These things are heaven sent!
I will not be going back to the "dark side" any time soon....
WoHoo, what a find, I can see why my mates rave about them so much.

  • I know very little about Imac, but I am becoming increasingly concerned that something is not right with mine

    Dear All,
I'm rather new to all this so please excuse any bad forum etiquette. I have been noticing recently that I seem to be having less control over my Imac (purchased 2012). I'm assuming I have a virus and as much as it pains me to say it I think its been done by someone I know.
Please could someone have a look at these screen shots and give me your thoughts, It would be a great help as I dont really know where to start with all of this.
    Many Thanks

That window is your backup scripts - there is no reason for you to open or amend them, and doing so might screw things up. It looks like the app is AppleScript Editor - quit that app from the dock (force quit if necessary by holding down the option key while you click the dock icon and click Quit)
That entry in Console looks like either you tried to FaceTime or call your friend, or they tried to call you. Yosemite (if that's what you have installed) conflates FaceTime with audio calls, so it could be either.
