Getpeername: Socket operation on non-socket

when i am starting the in.ftpd service. i am getting the below error
in.ftpd[5418]: [ID 572618 daemon.error] getpeername: Socket operation on non-socket.

I had the same problem with VMware. I also tried to connect with the VMware remote console, but got a similar error. In both cases it seems that it can not connect to the server for some very strange reasons.
I gave it another try with VMware player. The latest available version 3.1.0 and the previous version 3.0.1. Both versions did not start. The version 3.1.0 did not install a init script and 3.0.1 failed to start. In the end I gave up searching for errors.
Now I'm using VirtualBox and I am quite impressed of it's speed and stability. As long as you need a desktop virtualisation virtualbox will be probably all you need. I found it easier than vmware server. Sadly I was unable to try vmware player. So I can not compare the speed, but it is definetly faster than vmware servers remote console. But on the other hand the remote console of vmware server was developed for other purposes. It's not intended to be used as a desktop solution like vmware player.
If you need a full vmware server replacement then maybe xen would be a good try. Did not use it though, yet.

Operating and Non-operating temperatures for iPhone 5s

For all iPhones it is mentioned as below -
Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
Above info is mis-leading.
So which is the temperature for optimal usage if all temperatures between −4° to 113° F are non-operating?

No, it's not mis-leading. It is a standard way of marking product temp ranges.
It can safely be stored (non-operating) in temps of −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
If it is hotter or colder than this, it may get damaged.
It will operate correctly in temps of 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C).
Hotter or colder than this and it may not operate.

Push notification cannot use socket

I get this error in my error.log:
Warning: push-notify: connect() to socket: "/var/dovecot/push_notify" failed: Socket operation on non-socket
I can't really tell if the push works or not, but it seems that it won't download new mail unless I manually press "Download all new mail" (so it doesn't work)
So, is there any way to restart/reset the dovecot service?

That is a rather odd exception to get from java.
As a guess....
I would suspect that you are trying something that is not possible on the target architecture - either it can't listen at all or the socket range is limited (and 8068) isn't in it.

Purchase requisition with operation item

When I create a maintenance order with one operation with control key PM02 and with one component the system generates PR with 2 items. The first item is always created from the operation. I would like to know if there is a way to prevent the creation of this first item (operation item). We have items that do not have material code and can be confused with the operation item.

Operation status 'Fixed' in Production order

Hello all,
We are facing an issue with Operation Status 'Fixed'. If we go to transaction /sapapo/rrp3 and double click on Production Order (R). Then clcik on Operation , say 0100, at right side you will see multiple Operation status. One of them is 'Fixed'. We can make this indicator active ny fixing the order in planning board (right click=> Fix).
Here we are facing an issue. We are not fixing any order through planning board and still I see Operation status 'Fixed'. Even I unfix it, next day it gets fixed automatically. I suspect that either any job in APO or R/3 do this activity. Please note that in this case 'Date_Fixed' indicator is not checked. Like when you fix the order from planning baord, system check the checkbox for 'Date_Fixed" and for operation status 'Fixed'. In our case only Operation status becomes 'Fixed.
Please let me know what are the different ways to fix the operation status.

As you mentioned, if the operation is scheduled at non-working hours then it gets fixed. I checked with the user and they confimred that they are not using the non production hour while rescheduling the order. It means they are not using the check box of non-working hour from DS startegy or Heuristic.
Please let me know what are the different possibilities which can schedule the operation in non-working hours.

Moving big files(600MB) with FTP Adapter error The IO operation failed

You can try setting the XA Transaction Timeout for SOADataSource.
1. Log in to the WebLogic Admin Console.
2. Select in the left tree: Services-> Datasources-> SOADataSource->Transaction.
2. Select Set XA Transaction Timeout.
3. Set XA Transaction Timeout to 0.
4. Restart the server and check if the error still appears.

How to measure Availability Complexity Operation & Maintenance Costs etc

We have multiple configurations for attaining High Availability, Maximum Availability with and / or across data centers for databases. Some employ Active - Active Clustering Solution while Some use Active - Passive Solution. Some employ only OS clusters like Sun Clusters,Veritas clusters. Often as I noticed, a combination of OS cluster say Veritas Cluster as well as Oracle Cluster (Clusterware + RAC) in their database solutions.
In such situations how does one come up with Quantitative analysis of each methodology? What are the inputs one would need and how does these calculations come up? While searching on internet, I have seen at times ACTIVE - ACTIVE Database clusters using VCFS and Oracle Clusters RAC say the availability is some 99.xx% while other approaches are accordingly rated. How does one come up to such quantitative decisions? Could you please advice.
I was asked to come up with such numbers in terms of below mentioned items for a few approaches I suggested.
Availability of the Database
Complexity of Architecture and understanding.
Set up costs.
Operational Costs.
Cost of Maintenance
For your understanding I've suggested below approaches to attain High availability with Production Data Centre.
Approach - I : I will have Active - Passive Database running on node a and b respectively. DB1 will be active on node a and DB2 will be active on node b. In the event of failure they will fail over to the alternative.
Approach - I : I will have Active - Passive Database running on node a and b respectively. DB1 and DB2 will be active on node a and node b will always running waiting for a failover event. In the event of failure they will fail over to node b.
Approach - III : I will have DB1 and DB2 active on Node a. We could configure Dataguard (Logical or a physical standby) on node b in the production data centre.
Approach IV : I will have a two node cluster running RAC and will have ACTIVE- ACTIVE database DB1 and DB2 running on them.
Personally I like the Approach IV. However, for business reasons, we need to make a decision based on quantitative analysis done.
If one of you have already done one such excercise, could you please share yoru experiences here?

Complexity of Architecture and understanding: Complex since data gaurd need to be setup.
Set up costs: License for extra two database and for data gaurd.
Operational Costs: (None)
Cost of Maintenance: Verification that log files are continuously shipped and that there is no lag.
Also note if the database is not in maximum protection mode, chances are that you would loose data. If they are in maximum protection mode, then there would be a performance impact to your production server.
Approach IV : I will have a two node cluster running RAC and will have ACTIVE- ACTIVE database DB1 and DB2 running on them.
Non Availability of the Database: None till the time both cluster goes down.
Complexity of Architecture and understanding: Complex since you would be using RAC
Set up costs: Am not sure about licenscing part of RAC
Operational Costs: None
Cost of Maintenance: Nearly double then using single node Database.
Personally I like the Approach IV. However, for business reasons, we need to make a decision based on quantitative analysis done.

SaratI have not come up with the exact number since it would depends on the infrastructure and hardware.
Moreover Non availibility of database was only due to the fact hardware is not available it does not include the non availibility of database due to the issue with database. If there is issue with database, then even the passive node would not be able to handle it except only inthe case of data guard.

Checking return of new operator

I am a C++ developer just starting out on Java. I understand the concept of the new operator very well. I've been reading a Java book to see how Java uses/handles the "new" operator. None of the explanations or code examples say anything about checking for a null result when using the "new" operator. This concerns me especially when I see code for creating GUIs that look something like:

It seems like a good idea to let the client know this through exceptions.

Firefox is asking for an administrator password when none exists. I can't install. WHY

I am trying to install firefox. I've used explorer, chrome, opera. None of them are working. It keeps asking me for an administrator password. My account on my computer is an administrator but I don't have a password. I even went and created one and it still says bad login information. I tried to download from the stub, I tried to download from the full version. I'm about ready to give up but I really like firefox. I'm on windows 7

Join operations

Several textbooks (incl Oracle) claim that:
"There are some rules that one should remember for table joins: Data from two or more tables can be joined, if the same column (under the same or a different name) appears in both tables, and the column is the primary key (or part of that key) in one of the tables".
I think this statement can be somewhat misleading since it seems to describe the typical primary-key/foreign-key equijoin operation rather than a common characteristic of all join operations, including non-equijoins.
Of course, nothing prevents you from joining tables on whichever columns you choose, but the result may be meaningless. However, if you consider a non-equijoin operation, which can be useful on some occasions, none of the two rules need be fulfilled and the result will still make sense. The same column need not be present in both columns and need not be the primary key in the tables.
Anyone else find these "rules" somewhat misleading ?

Assuming that by "rules" here, the text is indicating common practices or rules of thumb, rather than hard algorithms, I think this makes perfect sense.
The "same column" rule appears to require that the data in two different columns represents the same thing. You could join employee numbers to employee salaries, but the result would be nonsense.
The "primary key" rule appears to assume a properly normalized schema. If all your tables are normalized, the only way that a join would make sense would be if the join column was a primary key on one of the tables. If employee name is not a primary key, then you would expect employee name to exist in one and only one table, hence, there would be no other column it would make sense to join with.
Now, reality often gives us rather less normalized schema designs, which introduces most of the cases I can think of that violate these rules of thumb.

VMware from AUR

Hi all,
I've been trying to get Vmware Server to a usable state bun unfortunatelly I just can't get it right I've installed everything from AUR aur/vmware-server 2.0.2-1; aur/vmware-server-console 1.0.10-1 and aur/vmware-server-modules 2.0.2-3 sucessfully. The problem is when I try to run VMware I can't connect to Local and be able to do anything

I've search sunsolve and google for this error message and am finding nothing. Eventually the web server hangs and we have to stop and restart it.
Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do to resolve it?

The /tmp directory is cleaned up daily of files over 3 days old and directories over 7
days old. We revised the maintainance routines on the server to exempt anything that starts with 'iws*'. Hopefully that will solve the problem - we are still testing (waiting for a failure - none yet).

Error log on DSL modem.

Would someone please tell me what these errors mean that are in my log on the modem/router that Verizon supplied me, and how to correct the problems. Especially the Failed retrieving new version, it appears that it is trying to download maybe a updated software version for the router??

Uxwdog watchdog

I am having problems with the watchdog (uxwdog) process on both HP-UX 11 and Solaris with IPlanet 6 SP5 with servlets.
The watchdog will fail and wedges the IPlanet server when it fails to restart.
error failed to connect to watchdog
It is not a performance, process or memory issue. This failure has happened late at night with minimum users and during normal operations

We have this same problem also. We also are getting these errors in our syslog:
