Getting 24P raw footage from PP ro ENcore

Could someone outline an inter-application rundown between PREMIERE PRO and ENCORE of procedures and settings that make the most of 24P raw footage in editing and output.
This would include navigating extremely confusing respective frame rates of 23.97, 24, 29.97 and 30 all of which we have to choose again in outboard processing input and output (eg.in AFTER EFFECTS), then again in compression, and finally in setting up an ENCORE project.
Dealing with the interlace (which in theory you shouldnt have), and the numerous sidebar choices along the way the add to the mystery. Being consistent is not as easy as it sounds. Between what you start out with and what you end up with is a minefield where common sense does not always come out on top.
The end goal is a compression without apparent field issues that ENCORE can use to deliver an optimal Blu-ray.

The first preset has been selected.
Okay; but that is why I want to see the project panel. You can "select" a preset in the edit panel, but not "select" it as the actual transcode setting.
The Transcode Settings panel, not the Edit Quality Presets panel, is where you actually set the preset to be used.

How do I get a RAW image from "My Pictures" into Photoshop? When I send it to Photoshop , it shows up as a grey checkerboard. The title is on the top. Whe I try to send a picture from Camera Raw, it does the same thing.

Has it ever worked or is this just something that started happening recently?

  • Importing "24p Cinema" footage from Canon AVCHD camera ?

    Hi all,
I have bought a CANON HFS10 Vixia AVCHD camera, I`ve made some footage using the "24p cinema" mode.
When using media browser in PPCS5 and importing it, it still indicates (like in CS4) under "properties", that the footage is "29.97 fps", as CS5 is compatible with this camera specifically, shouldn`t CS5 indicate something like "24 cinema Canon mode" or so ?
It`s my understanding that the Canon camera produces a 24 fps footage "wrapped" in a 29.97 container; it`s also my understanding that, as CS4 is not compatible with this camera, it looked ONLY at the wrapper and said under properties "29.97 fps", that sounds reasonable for me.
But what about CS5 ? How do I know if it is really "seeing" the 24p footage wrapped in a 29.97 fps wrapper if it still says "29.97 fps" ? Will it perform the editing and exporting correctly even though ?
    Thank you very much,
    RK

I was wondering though.....shouldn`t I just NOT DO Anything ?
Well, that would be ideal... but you know how THAT goes
There`s an Adobe document at its web site talking specifically about the
Canon cameras, it mentions specifically my camera and the so-called "24p
    cinema" format.
Can you post a link? I'm just curious what it says. The biggest issue is that Canon actually has (at least) two different 24p "formats," and your camcorder records to the not-so-easy-to-deal-with version. It's what Canon deems "24pf," which means that it records 18 progressive frames and 12 interlaced frames, but it doesn't flag which are which, so programs that are not able to determine the pulldown cadence can't remove the necessary frames to create a true 24p clip. After Effects (and a number of other methods) can determine the cadence, but that's an extra step, obviously.
It says that I can use Media Browser to import the files and...that`s
all, it doesn`t go any further. The option Interpret footage -> remove
pulldown is greyed out for me (?)
Yeah, that makes sense, given the above. Do you have a really short clip you wouldn't mind uploading somewhere for a test? I can't find one anywhere online...
I wonder if I could just edit it normally (labelled as 29.97fps
though..) and export the timeline as 23.976p....?
Which results would I achieve ? I`m trying to avoid  spending some
    expensive blu-ray medias doing tests;
You could, technically speaking, but aesthetically, you'd be pretty displeased with the results. The export process isn't any smarter than the import process, so unless you do the necessary steps, you won't get a good, clean 24p encode.

  • Unable to open Raw files from Nikon D800 in Photoshop CC [was:raw updates with creative cloud?]

i have a d800, bridge or photoshop do not seem to support the raw files, i am using CC and bridge will not bring up the thumbnails and photoshop will not open the files at all, can anyone help?

[Moved from Cloud forum to Camera Raw forum]
    ACR = Adobe Camera Raw.
ACR is the plugin used by Photoshop to read and process Raw files from cameras. It must be updated every time a new camera comes on to the market.
The Nikon D800 has been fully supported since ACR7.1
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
ACR7.1 is compatible with Photoshop CS6 and later
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
So, if you are in fact using Photoshop CC, there should be no reason that Raw files cannot be opened.
    In Photoshop, click:
Windows: Help > About Plug-In > Camera Raw
Mac: Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw

  • Transfering raw files from one computer to another after LightRoom selection

    Hello,
I'm trying out lightroom and love it so far. One quick question. If my assistant makes a Collection for me to work on later, how can I get the RAW files from that collection to work them on a different computer. I looked at the export option but it's only JPGs or DNF, and I want the RAW files. Can she export the RAW files for me? How?
    Thank you in advance

Thanks for your info. I'm a bit confused.
Don, if she exports the XMP sidecards I still need to have all the original files on my machine, and then filter accordingly correct? I only want to bring to my machine the Good Files. I don't want to waste time with the bad ones.
What do mean by letting her access both?
Harrison, are you saying to export the whole collection as DNG files and burn it onto a CD or something so that I can bring it into my computer? I'm not sure what you mean by letting my assistant "import them into the library on her computer" did you mean "my" computer?
Also right now I use bridge and I sort pictures by date created (multiple cameras) and then rename them with a prefix starting with 001. Can I do this in LightRoom.
Thanks again for all your help.

  • What VI can read raw data from a TDMS file with scaling information entered?

I would like to use scaling with my TDMS files so that the end user will
only see engineering unit values, however, within my Labview application, I
want to retrieve the raw data.  Is there a way to read the raw data using
one of the Vi's in Labview?

The scaling information in a TDMS file is stored as properties of the channel.  One trick (that I haven't mastered yet) is you can change the properties of the TDMS file (set properties) and set all the scales to have a offset of 0 and a scale of 1.  This will apply a scale that has the engineering units be the same as the raw values.  Then you can read the data like normal and you'll get the raw values.
There are several issues to be aware of, the first is changing the scale and forgetting to change it back, or some how modifying the data to be incorrect units and not knowing it.  For this reason I'd recommend making a copy of the TDMS file to a temporary location to make the modifications to the properties, read it, then delete the temporary TDMS file when you are done.
This is the only way I know of to get the raw readings from a scaled TDMS channel.

  • Raw Footage Capture Question

    Hi,
    I have FCE2, iLife 5, and Quicktime Pro 7.
What is the best method for capturing raw footage from a minidv (sony camcorder)? Should I use whatever application I am planning to work in ? There are times when I just want to transfer the minidv files to DVD ... and sometimes, later, I want to actually edit the files.
What is your suggestions for capturing video that gives me best quality, easiest capture (and organization of captured media), and ease of use between apps.
    Thanks,
    Damon

    Hi Damon.
I am sure you would at least want to add a title to your footage before transferring to DVD.
The simplest way would be to use the excellent (and dead easy!) titling facilities of iMovie.
Also, if you wanted to do basic editing iMovie would probably be more convenient.
However, if you want to use techniques not available in iMovie then FCE is the answer.
Whether you use iMovie or FCE the final quality (sharpness etc.) of your DVD will be the same.
The only way to find the best technique that suits YOU is to experiment because everybody works differently.
    Ian.

  • Is it possible to get the raw data?

    Hi,
I am trying to do a program that sends to a server the data captured by a webcam, but I need to send it with java sockets.
How can I get the raw data from a DataSource to send it myself?
    Thanks

    Hi
It is absolutely possible to get the data - anyone you have in your org with basic SQL skills can move the data off to a standalone SQL server. This could be done most simply by backing up and restoring the DB using SQL Enterprise Manager.
Moving the CAR/ART reporting tool would be more difficult... if you do actually use that for reporting (most people find it doesn't do what they need and don't use it for anything but basic troubleshooting, and get a third party package) then the best option may be to keep your publisher (possibly assigning it a new IP) and leave it running for as long as you need reporting.
You would then need a new server to run your upgraded V6 CCM; you may find you need this anyway.

  • Storing raw sony video footage from camera

hello all...not sure if this is the correct forum. i have about 60gb of raw footage on my sony video camera internal hard drive and i would like to import on and stored it on a dvd. i would like to do this in a way that is uncompressed and is raw and imovie will read it off the dvd so i can edit it down the road. is this possible? the files are .mts. thanks in advance..

Is your footage on a camera or camcorder? iMovie can import most files from most camcorders - see this compatibility list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290
You'd have to import directly into iMovie (follow the directions under Help in iMovie). If you want to import it to your desktop, I'm not sure that you can do that from a hard drive camcorder (that's how I import mine, but they're on an SDHC card so I simply put that in the card reader and drag the videos to the desktop). You might want to give it a try by plugging the camcorder into a USB port - if it shows on the desktop, you can just drag the videos over. I don't think that'll work, but it's worth a try; otherwise, check the compatibility list and import the videos into iMovie. You don't have to edit them immediately.
And, if my suggestions don't work, you might want to post in the iMovie forum in order to get more knowledgeable answers.

  • How to change Encore Default for source footage from 29.97 to 23.97?

    Hello,
I'm exporting from Premiere in 24p, downrezzing from H.264 HD.  MY ORIGINAL FOOTAGE is also in 24p.
Here are my current Encore defaults:
As you can see, the DEFAULT for my source footage is 29.97 fps.
How can I change that default to 23.97?  What are the steps?
I just can't seem to make it happen.
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hi Jim,
Attached are two screen shots that demonstrate that I am working in 24p within Premiere Pro.  As such, I have no idea why Encore would be CLAIMING that I am working within a 29.97i space.
But this could be important, yes?
    Thanks!

  • Where to get raw footage for my students?

I am teaching a video editing class and I need to find some raw footage for them to edit. I have some projects that came with the class but they are old and not very good. One project uses footage of a bank robbery that I now learned is for a short film called, "The Heist," but we are missing some of the footage and I cannot seem to find it anywhere online (or hardly any information about it). I do not need the highest quality footage but I do need complete projects, so the students can look at all the different shots and cut them down into finished products (commercials, music videos, corporate videos, short films, TV shows, anything and everything I can find). Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

I too would be interested in getting my hands on what you are looking for.  And have tried. And I work on movies, tv shows, commercials as a grip... on crews....so you would think it would be fairly easy for me to find ...  After more than a year of keeping my eyes peeled for stuff I still haven't been able to get material like that.
I'll mention what I've found out as it might help narrow your own search down.
First off you're not looking for "raw" footage... raw is a type of video format and when I read this thread title that's what I thought you were looking for...
There is some raw footage samples at this link ...and a few "shots" that can be edited together ( like same scene , 2 camera angles )...but nothing near as long as you are looking for....
However, the footage is like from a red camera or prosumer cameras...I only used a couple clips from red camera from this link...and didnt check out all the stuff thats there...so you'd have to check it out yourself...
    http://groups.adobe.com/assets/CreativeSuite5/CS5-Demo-Assets/
AECS 5_ Demo Assets_ final zip is the one I used...
within that zip file I used a couple clips of a guy running while explosions happen on either side of him...that you can "edit"... short though.  you might find more stuff to use.
what you're looking for is "scripted" material ( could be MOS ( no sound ) --and probably would be if pro stuff )
pro stuff has sound mixed separately from the camera, and slates ( clappers ) are used in each shot to sync the sound later.
If you do manage to find "dailies" from a tv show or movie, commercial, etc... that would most likely be on DVD and the quality for editing and export would not be the best cause its aleady mpeg 2 - dvd compression for viewing....
If you want the original stuff it would have to be on hard drive or tape.... which isn't going to happen.
DVD dailies given by productions to the director of photography and some others on the crews are given BACK to production in most cases, and everyone signs secrecy clauses and all that stuff, so sharing that stuff with anyone is a clear violation of not only that contract but also the copyright laws.
So getting dailies is not a very promising and likely scenario.....
With maybe one exception... if you are an accredited school and you write to the producers of a TV show you MIGHT be able to get samples of very old show dailies or dailies from a show that has been cancelled a long time ago ( no more likelihood of marketing in a secondary market )  But as you know, DVD's are still sold now for old Hawaii Five-O TV shows...so this route for you is probably going to require you and your students sign some sort of copyright stuff etc just to "play" with the stuff...
You can see how getting material like you would like to have ( and me too ! ) is very hard to come by....good luck and if you find any source please post it here as I would also like to find that sort of stuff...even if it is just DVD stuff.
    good luck

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

  • How do I get Bridge recognize raw images from 5dIII & 7d?

I reinstalled bridge on a computer that is running Windows xp.  Have had no trouble with these cameras raw recognition until the reinstall.
Now I get the following message:  "Camera Raw cannot open this file.  If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help>Updates..."
Help>Updates shows that everything is up to date.
    What do I do now?

Ok, it sounds like you installed the dng converter and not the 8.3 camera raw plugin.
Do you see a shortcut on your desktop or Start>All Programs menu for the Adobe Application Manager?
If so, turn your internet on and double click on that shortcut and see if that finds the camera raw 8.3 update.
Sometimes the Adobe application Manager needs to be updated and it doesn't do that when using Help>Updates.
