Getting a complete backup while allowing users to stay connected

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a complete backup (RMAN or otherwise) while allowing users that are connected to the database to remain connected? If so, how?

There is no such thing as a logical backup. This phrase invented by Oracle for marketing purposes isn't worth the keystrokes it takes to type it on a keyboard. Forget you ever heard it. An export can not be used to restore or recover a database.
All production databases containing information more important than your mother's cookie recipes should be in archive log mode and anything defined as a "backup" should be taken using RMAN either as a backupset or imagecopy.

To change the channels that the NetGear router is pushing the signal over, do the following:
Log into http://192.168.0.1 username: admin, password: password (this is the default unless you changed it, which I'd recommend for security anyway).
Go to wireless settings
Go to channel
Change it to something like "11" which seems to work best for me (although it can really depend with wireless interference in your area, other WiFi networks, cordless phones, microwaves, etc).
Go to the bottom and click save and then log out.
It could be possible that your wireless router is susceptible to wireless interference because of the channel it's communicating on and thus dropping your internet connection, thus causing AIM to disconnect.

Unable to get a complete backup of iPhone 3

I have an iPhone 3 and just got a hand-me-down 4 from my nephew. I've got my AT&T number/account transferred to the iPhone4, and am trying to move everything from the 3 to the 4, and am having a problem getting all the data, apps, etc. backed up to my Mac iTunes so that I can "restore" them to the 4. Some stuff backs up (contacts and text messages, in particular), but none of my purchased apps. I've tried the following steps:
Deleted all previous backups and manually started a new backup. This only results in about a two-minute backup, and same result (no purchased apps)
Created a new user account and tried a new backup in iTunes. Same result.
Erased all settings and data in my new iPhone 4 and tried a "new iPhone" restore from the iPhone 3 backup. Same result. In this case and the other "restores," I'm also getting duplicate contact entries!
Additionally, I went to the AT&T store to try to get the iPhone 3 "unlocked" so that I can pass it down the food chain to a relative who wants to use it on another carier, and found that most folks in AT&T and Apple customer service have yet to "get the memo" on unlocking AT&T iPhones that apparently came out last Friday (4/13!), and can't figure out how to get me the Apple unlock code for the phone. They say, "We're working on it!"

Well, last week I read about the confusion on this issue in ZDNet, and concluded that my best move would be to drop by the AT&T store here. The counter rep called AT&T and got a person who hadn't heard of this, but said he'd try to do it anyhow. He reported after a while that my phone was "ineligible," although since it's been out of contract for four years, I believe it is.
The AT&T customer service man then attempted to transfer my store person to Apple. Having been given an Apple phone number, after ten minutes of "hold" time with Apple, we hung up and called that number. After ten minutes, Apple answered and said that while they sell unlocked iPhones, they NEVER unlock them for customers, and that we should call AT&T again. So my person called AT&T again, and after a long hold, got someone who started researching the problem. After 20 minutes or so, my person asked the AT&T customer service person if I could leave the store and have her call me when some resolution. A half an hour later, she said that AT&T was working on it and that it might take at least a couple of weeks!

How do I get a complete backup of my iPhone?

I am sure that somewhere this is answered completely...i just havent found it yet.
I plugged my phone into iTunes, did a sync and backup, then restored my phone to original state, then tried to install everything from a backup.
All of my apps are missing.
Did I do something wrong?
I need clear instructions...an explanation of the difference between a sync and a backup, and how do I completely wipe a device then reinstall exactly what i had.

HT201250 I use time machine and I can't get a certain backup to allow restore

My MBPro stopped booting up. I got it up and running again after reinstalling everything(OSX and all). I am now running Mountain Lion, could this be causing problems seeing all the non Mountain Lion era backups. I can only restore those dates now, no older than upgrade date ones.
I hooked up my time machine drive and now I can't get a certain date to make itself available for "Restore" the latest date that lights up that button in Time Machine is the date I did the reinstall. How do I get my excel files I made back onto my computer.
Other issue is where are Excel files kept in the MAC's file structure. I know the were backed up, but I can't see them when I am using Finder to look within each subfolder in Time Machine.

When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. Can't get messages to backup using COBRAS Export with Unity Connection 7.x

I am trying to do a message export using COBRAS on Connection 7.1.3, but it errors out saying this...

I was able to get this to work. Had to use the original administrator account and not a user with the same roles.

How do you get the browser to work offline. It stays connected even if you click on Work Offline option and there is a check mark beside it.

I play an online game which requires me to open and set up several tabs, click on them offline, and then reload all tabs. With this new update, the work offline button does not work. I click on it 'Work Offline', a checkmark appears before the option. But when I click on the confirm button on the tab, it does not show the usual message that I am offline and I should try again after going online.
I also do a lot of offline reading, which was possible with the previous Firefox versions. I'd load them while I was online, then I could read them when I was offline. Now I can't do this.
I am not happy with this new version of FF. Is there a way to revert to the old Firefox?

I notice that you are likely infected by Conduit software (malware) looking a the browser.newtab.url pref in the System Details list.
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

10.5.6 update - user cannot stay connected to server anymore!

Ugh. Here we go again, Apple! One user updated to .6 before leaving last night. Today, he can log in (local account) and now when he's connected to our XSERVE, he CANNOT save or copy files to it. he is getting constant "connection interrupted" messages. I am also looking at the Server Admin utility on the server and he's showing up multiple times as either "Disabled/Asleep" or (weird) his machine name is showing up as server-16027567 instead of the machine's actual name.
Someone, PLEASE tell me there is a simple way to roll back this update!!

-4 connection broken message when selecting complete backup in DBM GUI

I am not able to backup my SDB anymore!! When I click on the Complete backup option, there is a -4 connection broken message and then a -4 wrong connection type. When I try to create a new backup media, the modified date is 12:00AM no matter when I create it. If I try to execute the backup, I receive error -24985 medium not found. I have tried clearing the entries in the SDB.knl and SDB.mdf files, but that has not resolved the issue.

What errors did you see in the dbmsrv-<servername>.prt located in the /sapdb/data/wrk by default installation?

Flash app that allows users to create mini animations

Hi,
I am fairly new to flash, and was wondering if the community could point me in the right direction for my current project.
I am looking to build an app that allows end users to draw and save mini animations (simple predetermined shapes that move in 2D). So far I have a written a app that allows the user to draw a single frame using simple shapes and lines, but I am having some small troubles at this stage, and have not attempted to allow the user to animate or save the drawing.
If anyone knows of a tutorial or some other resource to put me on the right path I would be very grateful. I can also share what I have if anyone would be willing to give me some pointers (I am going to assume that as a newbie, my code could use a lot of improvement).

However, if I can get the basic app going (allowing users to create mini animations) I think I should be able to get save going with some (ok, alot) of effort.

I installed System Update 4 on Windows 7 64bit (X300 laptop) and keep getting "An error occurred while gathering user information" at about 9% of Searching for agent updates.
I tried searching Google and this forum for possible solutions, but without much success. I would appreciate any help on this.

in this situation try following:
open registry:
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Software\Lenovo\System Update\Preferences\UCSettings\RunTime
check if the informations are correct.
In case not, then correct them.
- Try to run TVSU as Administrator (right-click on it and select Run as Administrator)
In case this will be of no use, then just go into the install folder of TVSU and there you will see the folder called "Logs". In there you will for sure find the exact information on what went wrong. Perhaps some proxy config, or just the server was unavailable.

Complete backup of my phone

I was thinking about sending my phone to get repaired, but first I want to take a backup of my phone. Since iTunes takes a backup automaticly, I figured that would be enough, but after reading a bit, it seems that not all data on the phone is restored when "reinstalling" the backup (ie. my scores on Angry Birds).
Is this correct, and if so, is there a way to get a complete backup of the phone so that I have it all when I finally get my phone back from repair?

There is probably hardware problems with my phone speaker. But when I spoke to support, they said that I had to reset the phone to eliminate a software problem, and even if I didnt do it, I still want a complete backup before sending it away.
There arent even 3rd party programs that does it, or some sort of way to get access to it in Windows?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

This MAC is partioned with Windows 7 with only 50 gig devoted to Windows so my son can play Flight Simulator X on the machine.
I have a WD Passport External Hard Drive for the Back Up
I have spoken with WD Tech Support and they have been fantastic but I still keep getting this message. Any thought?

Reboot the TC.. it sometimes gets lost on the network.. are you still actually using 10.6.8 as the problem is more prevalent on Lion and ML it seems is no better.
You might find reset of the TC is needed. change the names to short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Reset the TM to the new name.. use the A4 in Pondini's great KB.
