Getting a large avi off the photo app

I made a video on my camera, uploaded it to the ipad (avi format). It plays well! Now I want the file back to edit on my Windows XP machine and I can't get it off. I can get all other imported photos, and even another avi that is smaller, but not this one! Ideas?

The method you suggest is how I have been doing it, everything copies over easily except the two large files.
I wonder if there is a fix for that coming? I want the files, but it looks as if I can't delete them either, I can't move them in anyway, or open them in anything but the photo app.

  • Getting Albums & Large Videos off the iPhone

I tried to get help from this community to solve my problem only to end up handling it myself.
I am not without knowledge however, granted the one thing I cannot post here is the iTunes
system file code that prevents having to erase & sync the iPhone. Which I should add if you
do this (erase & sync) it would appear to only delete your music, but thats "as far as I know".
So to the gifts I bring to this place.. iPhone Explorer & why your transfers fail epicly.
Google the "iPhone Explorer" because you will need it, go ahead say you've used it an failed.
However before you dismiss my advice did you remember to....... UNDO YOUR IPHONE ENCRYPTION?!
Yes.. it would seem that using this application is DEPENDANT on wither you have encrypted your
iPhone thru iTunes. This is the only way to browse the pictures directory an copy ALL the folders
out onto your PC. I repeat, phone to pc, pics from your phone onto your PC.
What about the large videos you might ask.. WELL.. this applies to windows users ONLY.
go into the directory below, make sure to change your name where I've written "your name here"
otherwise you'll just be told the directory doesn't exist.
    C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME HERE\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
I will say it again, "your name here" refers to your windows user name!
Now once in this directory you'll see a folder or maybe more than 1, this depends on how many people
use your iTunes an back up their iPhones onto your pc.
Oh but wait, your going to say I never mentioned you had to backup your iPhone thru iTunes
in order for this to work, an just maybe your on someone elses pc an you've never backed up
your stuff here before an your worried it'll tell you some crap about "erasing & syncing".
Well relax.. armageddon isn't upon you yet. Still use the backup function an go to the directory
as mentioned, why? because! when you view the files by list & detail you'll be able to sort the entire
folder by file "SIZE" this should help narrow down (quite fast) which of these scribble scrabble named
files might be your "impossibru" to xfer video file(s).
If you've got issues getting smaller 5min or less video files off your iPhone this will still work but your
going to have to try to guess harder which file it might be.
Once you've located the possible file, copy it over somewhere else you won't lose it, for the sake of
all things.. DON'T mess with the original in the backup folder!! just COPY it outside.
Once you've got the file(s) outside, if you haven't turned on/off "file name extensions" so that the
.exe/.txt/.jpg an such show on all files, you'll notice the files I had you copy have no extensions!
Just rename the file to whatever you want it to be like test.mov an it should open just fine provided
you've got ALL the proper codecs for viewing video files (yes this matters an even if you think your
pc is just friggin awesome you could still be missing the right one or an updated version of the codec
you need most for this). Also you'll want a decent video viewing program to go along with the proper
codecs. For your aid I've supplied the url's of such things for you below.
Codecs: http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm (Get the "mega" version, don't argue with me).
Video Viewing: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (I don't care who your pc tech is an what they said either, just use it).
You will have to reboot once you install these 2 things, it would also be advised your copy of windows
is legit an fully updated. You also might want to look into "CCleaner" if your brave enough to handle
cleaning your own pc's temp files just to be on the safe side, it's registry cleaner is verified by me
to do a decent job but hey, use it at your own risk as the cleaner isn't a required step to make this
    all work.
Anyhow with this you've got your large video files & your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc albums off the iPhone finally by now.
Enjoy renaming the pics as you'll spend alot of time folder diving but hey it's worth not losing it all right??
PS: It helps to move all the pics out of all the new folders into one folder, hence the above statement.
PEACE! an to all you "hipsters" who said it couldn't be done, you KNOW what I wanna say >.>

  • HT203511 Is there a way for me to get all 2,000 photos from my iphone onto the photos app on my macbook without having to delete anything? Currently it is only uploading the last 30 days.

I have had my macbook for a few months, but have not really taken full advantage of it. I am trying to get my phone to communicate with my computer so my photos will be in two locations. I just set up the photos app on my computer, but it will only upload the last 30 days.

Have you considered using iCloud Photo Library instead of Photo Stream? See iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
The following quote from that link has instructions on how to turn it on:
If you want to turn on iCloud Photo Library on all of your devices, follow these steps:
In iOS 8.3 or later, go to Settings > iCloud > Photos, then turn on iCloud Photo Library.
In OS X 10.10.3 or later, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Options next to Photos, then select iCloud Photo Library.

My iPad has deleted 700 photos off the photo stream on that device.  The pictures are still on my Mac iPhoto in the photo stream.  How do I get them to reappear on the iPad?

When did this deletion happen?  Which version of iOS 8 do you have on your iPad? Depending on your settings you may not see My Photo Stream on the iPad any longer.  With iOS 8 "My Photo Stream" will only show on the iPad, if you did not enable iCloud Photo Library (Beta).

  • Problems with the photo app

so recently, a day after updating to IOS 5, i was using my camera to take pictures at an event. i was using the camera from the lock screen and snapping with the up button. well as i was taking pics i would look at the pic, as one normally would. after i took the picture, the photo was perfectly clear no problem i was happy with my photos. about an hour later when i went in to view the pics, my camera roll was all glitchy. When i would scroll up or down there was a huge lag. looking through the albums, there were whole rows of blacked out squares where my pics should be. it looked like the pics had gotten corrupt. the biggest problem is when i clicked a picture to view it, it was super blurry. As i mentioned previously, the pictures were clear. normally you select a picture, and you have that second where the app refines the pictures. My phone/app was no longer refining the pictures so they were just blurry. so i restarted the phone hoping that would fix the problem. nope. i restored it to factory settings nothing.
some other symptoms include, not being able to attach a photo, either to messages, email, or facebook. when i click a photo and delete it, if i select another photo it will display the pic i just deleted. sometimes when i select photos the photo app will just crash and take me back to the home screen. my diagnoses is that my pictures have somehow managed to corrupt the photos app, but i am really not an expert. also if i try to back up my photos, from either iphoto or itunes there are no pictures at all to select.
i have called apple, they are giving me a replacement. but, hopefully this helps other people because i did not see anything out there related to my problem. i hope the next ios update can fix this issue, if it is one.

I apologize for not replying earlier after i went to the apple store. but i will explain what the apple rep did.
first off, i recommend trying several things before you wipe your iphone.
1.The obvious, reboot your phone by holding the home button. If that does not work then...
    2. Backup your phone, then do a restore from backup. If that doesn't work then...
    3. This is where it gets tricky, my dilemma is that i had taken pictures that i didn't want to lose. Keeping the pictures on my phone was the most important thing to me so i tried a couple different things. In my original post, i mentioned that i could not attach pictures to a message to email them to myself. Otherwise, I would have emailed all 100 pictures to myself, no matter how long it took. There are several Extractor programs out there but they are a bit pricey, in my opinion. The one i used was called "Photo Transfer App". You can find this app on the app store, it costs 2.99, but its an awesome little app. It is worth the money. So if you dont care about anything on your phone, if you dont mind losing all your data, eg. notes, music, or photos, then in the next step you will restore your phone as a new phone. All the above steps were my own way to try to troubleshoot the problem.
So at the apple store heres what they did...
First, I showed the girl all the problems i described above. after doing all the steps above, she was like this looks like a real problem. I told her it happened after i updated to ios 5. she said its not the ios, she has seen it on the iphone 3. but i kind of doubt that, because i have not seen anything like this in any forum. but anyways....
To save my photos she recomended i email them to myself, the Internet at the store was not that quick because
of all the devices connected so she said i should do it from home.
but the steps to email (i did not try this method):
-click photos>click the 'select photos' button (looks like a square with a right facing arrow located at the bottom left corner.)>select any photo you want to email-click share-then select email.
I had explained that i had already backed up my photos so we continued...she asked me several times are you sure you saved everything. She continued to emphasize that all my data would be lost when we restore as a new phone. i said no problem, i can do without the things i have on my phone. keep in mind when we tried to restore from backup i was having the same problems, so we decided the back up was also corrupt and was no longer useful.
To restore as a new phone. the lady said this is one of the cool things on ios 5. i'm not sure if you have to be connected to wifi, but i would think you should be connected just to be safe.
-click settings>general>reset>then click 'erase all content and settings'. this will delete everything. Make sure you select the restore as a new phone.
this has fixed the problem for me, i have not had anymore problems. The apple rep said that she thinks either something dealing with the photos app or one of my photos has corrupted the hardware.

  • I cannot upload photos onto my I pad from the SD lightning adaptor, it is not seen on the photo app

I have turned off the iPad as directed then plugged into the lightening SD card adaptor , when the iPad was turned on it activated the photo app but no new photos were on show from the plugged in adaptor, the SD card when plugged into my iMac all the photos can be viewed , I have the iPad fully charged so charge is not an issue, the iPad is the retina ten inch one.

How did the photos get onto the SD card ? If you copied them onto it yourself then the card needs to have a DCIM directory on the root of it, and the photos need to be underneath that with filenames that are exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus their file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

  • Items or messages shared from within apps by email don't get sent but sit in the Mail app outbox until sent manually.

Many apps, including the Photos app, allow many options for sharing or social networking. When I select to send by the Mail app the message never gets sent as I would expect, but remains in the Mail Outbox until I remember to drill down to the Outbox and send it manually.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Is this normal?
Is there a 'Setting' that causes this?
Why doesn't the message just go?
    Hope you can help.

I've been having similar issues with my iPhone 5 and the latest iOS version.  I read somewhere else about an issue with having Exchange and Imap in use with Mail being an issue.  I had both, but had my Exchange connection to Gmail off.  I was still having the issue.
The solution that worked was to delete my Exchange Gmail account.  Now, emails are being sent immediately.  If you have Exchange and Imap Gmail accounts on your iPhone, pick one and delete the other.  Good luck.

  • How do i transfer a video back onto my iPhone in the Photo app where it originally was and can be shared from (NOT the video app)

I have a video that i originally took using my iphone but then transfered to my PC.  I want to put it back onto my iPhone in the photo app (NOT video app) so i can share it straight from my phone.
Since one of the iphone updates enabled the volume button as a camera shutter button and i was shooting the video one handed, i held the camera with the volume buttons on top.  Unfortunatly, the phone still saves it in such a way that only the iphone and itunes recognize the proper orientation intended and when it's opened with any other device or program, it automatically makes the part of the video that's against the smooth side of the phone always the top side (regardless of if that makes the video sideways or upside down).  I was able to get the video back onto my phone as a "video" where it shows up in the video app as a "movie" and there are no options to share via text, email, youtube (which were options when the video was still in the photo app).  I need to be able to share the video with family

Have you transferred photos from your computer to your iPhone which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If so, you can place this video in the folder of photos on your computer that is selected to be transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select Include Videos.

  • How can I disable the Photos app from automatically running when I plug in my iPhone?

How can I disable the Photos app from automatically running when I plug in my iPhone?
I have no intention of ever using Photos, in fact, having to abandon Aperture takes me one step close to moving back to Windows, but I digress.
I just want to NOT have to kill the Photos app every time I plug in my phone.
    Thanks.

I am still seeing the option Image Capture, like shown in the screenshot that Rysz posted.   But it is another example of the hide-and-seek Apple likes to play with us.
The option has to be set for each device individually. With the device connected to USB, you have to click the tiny disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the sidebar to reveal the option.
I was perfectly happy with the program I paid for (Aperture), and now to maintain the functionality I have to pay for another application (LightRoom) to get the functionality that I paid for in Aperture.
Aperture 3.6 is working well with Yosemite. I will use it, as long as I have a Mac, that will run Yosemite or a compatible system.
Have you looked at Capture One?  It looks much more similar to Aperture than Lightroom.

  • The new operating system changed the background color of the photos app from black to white.  How do I change the color back to black?

The new operating system (IOS 7) changed the background color of the Photos App (Camera Roll) from black to white.  How do I change the color back to black?

    You can't. Sorry.

You can tell apple that you'd like it and see if they respond....eventually. (you don't get responses from your feedback mails but they have been known to issue changes that users have asked for, such as the ability to mass delete apps)

  • Accidentally deleted the photos app icon from my iPhone 4s.

I've read the previous threads on this topic but none quite fit the bill. I need to re-install the Photos icon, which has disappeared.
This happened while I was holding my phone but not paying attention; when I looked again the icons were all shaking. I don't know how the icon disappeared because the factory defaults don't offer a delete option, but the icon definately disappeared at that time.
The app itself is still there and, because it was running when I deleted the icon, I can currently still access it by double clicking the main button, where app (and icon) is still accessible there at the bottom of the screen. But this is not convenient for general usage, and if I hard close the app from there then I will have no way to open the Photos app.
I can't re-download the app because it is a factory default app and not available anywhere (and as such shouldnt be deletable!).
The icon isnt hiding anywhere amongst my subfolders, and I've checked for restrictions but there arent any.
Restetting the home screen layout to factory defaults presumably means I  will lose all the other app icons I have, and their sub folders etc,  which I dont want to do either.
I have now backed up my phone and all my photos etc, but if I restore my phone from a previous backup, I will lose the data and messages I've acquired isince then.
All I want to do is re-install the icon and make sure it links to the photos app that is still installed - surley that can't be so hard?
    All help appreciated.
I don't have a Mac and run Windows 7 on a Sony VAIO. All versions of iTunes and IoS are up to date.

    PROBLEM SOLVED
ANSWER The exact same thing happened to me today.  I accidently deleted my Photo app (with over a 1000 photos in it) but I could still access it by pressing the home button twice.  This is because it was with the background running apps (when you press the home button twice it shows all the apps running in the background) but it would not let me drag it to the Home screen.
Well so I was anxiously reading this thread at church to see what to do (I did a search for, 'I accidently deleted my Photo app' and how I came across this thread).  Anyway, I searched all my subfolders and everywhere IT WAS NOT IN ANOTHER FOLDER AND THE PHOTO ICON WAS COMPLETELY GONE FROM ANY OF THE DESKTOPS.
Anyway, my phone was dying and no way to charge it so it died at church and so I connected it to my car charger in my car when leaving church and after the iphone came on again, there was the Photo App on my desktop!
So my advice is to let it completely run out of it's charge then later plug into a charger.  I have the iPhone 4S going on almost 2yrs now and this is the first time this has happened to me!   I was in a hurry getting ready for church and pressed it accidently so I know exactly when it happened (when all the apps have x's and you can delete them ...).
I always delete the backgound running apps to save battery power but I thought now I can never delete the Photo background running app or will lose everything!  Hope this works for you all.  I know I can connect it to my desktop and all but try this first - much easier...

My brand new iPod touch 5th gen (silver) i use it a lot and I take really great care if it but just today it's been acting really slow, freezing up all the time, it won't let me open up apps, the notification bar (dragged down) all gone (no markets/weather/noticfications) and never says anything, and the camera. Camera is really bugging me, when you go in the app "camera" I tooka photo, and I went to the left bottom corner and clicked that preview, it shows all the photos there, but it won't let you edit them, share or delete them. But when you go into the photos app, and go to camera roll they aren't there at all.
When I try to open apps, they freeze and then I try to move/delete them and then it freezes, and stops everything. Shuts down, and restarts and like nothing's happened.
