Getting a New Internal battery

Hi,
I have a G4 Powerbook and I need a new internal battery as my clocks keeps going off time and telling me my programs will act "eradically". Where do I get the internal battery for the clock? Can I put it in myself? Computer is not under Apple Care.
Thanks!

Hi, HD shooter. The internal backup battery is an assembly including a small circuit board and cable, not just a single coin-type cell. There's a significant amount of time/labor involved in getting to it and, if you're a professional technician expected to warrant your work, testing after the installation to make sure things are working OK.
That said, it's perfectly possible to replace the battery assembly yourself and save some money. You can see what it looks like and where it is on this page, which shows the underside of the Powerbook with its battery, hard drive and optical drive removed. Click on any of the three photos to enlarge it. The backup battery assembly is the small circuit board in the upper right corner with the pink and white cable draped across it. It resides above the optical drive, under the right wrist rest, and is accessed by removing the optical drive.
Check with the following parts vendors for pricing and availability of the backup battery assembly for the DVI Tibooks, of which yours is the last and fastest model:

My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPod Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Getting a new internal HD - UK Based - All welcome to comment

    Hello guys,
I have the iMac Rev A 20" and 160GB Internal HD. I am going to get a firewire external drive - but have also read that many of you have changed the internal HD to a much larger capacity. This sounds excellent to me.
I was wondering where did you get this done - especially if you're in the UK and how much would it cost? What sizes are available?
Many thanks, looking forward to your comments,
    Martin

I replaced my stock 160GB drive with a 320GB model from Western Digital. Easy as pie to swap out since all the components are easily accessible.
Be sure to get a SATA drive and - although I normally recommend Seagate - avoid them until they have the SSC/firmware issues resolved that end up rendering their drives unusable in Macs.
You might be able to kill two birds with one stone in this upgrade. You can get a SATA enclosure with FW on the outside, take the old drive out and put it in the enclosure, then clone the old drive back to the new drive. That way you can re-use the old drive and hve the extra space of the new drive.
In order to do this, all it takes is a cloning program like SUperDuper. Just be sure to install SD onthe drive before you take it out and put it in the enclosure.
I have not had very good luck in finding a STA/FW enclosure. In fact, the only one that I could find was the Addonics AE5SACSUF. It is available at New Egg, but you can probably find it at a retailer in the UK.

  • How can I get a new MacBook battery Germany?

Hi. I am a Mac newbie and need some help. I have the infamous black "x" (even after installing all relevant updates). Apple tech tells me that I need a new battery but they will ship it to my APO (Army Post Office) where I am stationed.
I know people in Europe use Apples. Is there an Apple Store or Certified Tech in Germany that can make this exchange happen?

    Hi bendicott,
    welcome to macbook forum.

    Good Luck.

  • Battery life still poor after replacement with brand new internal battery!

The geniuses at the A-store can't find any hardware issues. The battery still only lasts 2-3 hours whereas before I could watch 2 full-lenth movies and still have 20% power left.
Fresh install of Snow Leopard makes no difference nor does booting from an external drive.
Reset PRAM, SMC, etc. but makes no difference. Does anybody knows what causes this sudden drain?
Also, will I be able to get my money back for the battery replacement since it made no difference (the old one was fine at 324 cycles and probably tossed.

    Have you calibrated the battery?

  • How do I reboot my Macbook pro 2011 to a new internal hard drive?

I had to get a new internal hard drive and I can't afford to pay some one to do it for me. So I was wondering how do I install the operating system on to the hard drive?
    Thanks

Since we don't know which MBP you have or what OS was initially installed on it, try this. Start up the Mac and hold down the Command and "R" keys. If you have an internet connection and if the MBP came with Lion installed, you should be able to boot into Internet Recovery. From there, you can download Lion from Apple's servers and install it. That's assuming the new HD has already been installed and formatted (you can format it yourself using the Disk Utility that's available in Internet Recovery).

  • New internal HD, steps?

I am going to upgrade my RAM and Internal Hard Drive in my Macbook Pro (mid 2009,model # A1278). Currently, I am running snow leopard, but I would like to upgrade to Mountain Lion after getting the new internal HD.
I know how to remove & put in a hard drive, but are there any other steps I need to take before and after doing so?
I am not sure if I have to clone copy everything over to the new Hard Drive or if I can just put the current HD in an enclosure and then transfer only the files that I want into the new HD.
This is the hard drive that I am going to buy
Seagate Momentus Laptop HDD 1 TB SATA-300

If you're comfortable with the physcial installation procedure, all you really need to do is to transfer your data.
For that I recommend buying a small, inexpensive USB 2.0 enclosure (can be had for less than $8 at Amazon, although I've more of the $20 ones from OWC) and Carbon Clopy Cloner. You can install the drive before or after the clone. Just put the old or new drive in the enclosure, boot from the old drive, use Disk Utility to format the new drive and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old drive to the new.
    Pretty simple, really.

BTW - you can get a HGST 1TB 7200rpm drive from Newegg fo basically the same price - it would be faster than the 5400rpm drive that you've chosen.

  • Replacement internal battery... is there an easy way ?

I need a new internal battery for a MacBook Pro 17" Mid-2009.  The old one doesn't last any more, and has bulged and distorted the base so that the thing now rocks from side to side.
Given that batteries are a consumable, and 3rd party batteries are of unknown quality, I thought I'd spend the money and buy one from Messr Apple and Sons.
No such luck.  External batteries are available in the Apple Store.  Internal batteries, not.
So I consulted the chat people.  When we finally agreed that the External battery was not what I wanted, I was referred to my nearest Genius Bar.  Could they give me a price/availability/timescale ?  No.  I have to make time to visit my nearest Genius Bar to find out what they can do, when they can do it and how much this might cost.
Frankly, I don't think I need a Genius to replace the battery.
What's more, I don't have the time to waste schlepping my way to the nearest Genius, and would be more than a little irritated if they could not do the replacement on the spot... all this and I'm expected to either pay whatever the Genius wants for the battery and for fitting it, or just eat the waste of my time and go buy a 3rd party battery and have done with it.
Is there a better way ?

Why should I not attempt to install a battery on my own ?
I have been fixing my own machines since god was in short trousers.  The inside of a MacBook Pro is really not that special.
If Messrs Apple and Sons were prepared to give me (a) a price, and then (b) do the battery swap at an arranged time, I might be just a little less irritated by the rigmarole.
But I'm also betting it would take two trips to sort this out... which is more BS than I am capable of sustaining without going postal on their posteriors.
I'm also really curious about the FUD surrounding 3rd party batteries... I'd be nervous buying anything on *B*y or *m*z*n or such-like from some no-name supplier.  But there appear to be some specialist laptop battery suppliers around, who one would hope select their suppliers carefully.  On the other hand, there also appear to be a number of poorly constructed fronts for no-name suppliers.  IMHO what would be useful is a little more in the way of a reputation mechanism one could have some faith in (and a little less sucking of teeth and shaking of heads at the very idea of a battery which is not-made-for-apple-by-their-current-off-shore-suppliers).

  • 601 internal battery error

    Hi,
The 601 error relates to your notebooks main battery ( not the cmos cell as the message suggests ) - there are many retailers, including HP, where you can purchase a replacement such as the example on the following link.

  • Recommend a new internal HD for my Macbook Pro

    I have a MacBook Pro 15 (Late 2008)
    150GB
    4GB RAM
    2.66GHz
I have about 47GB left so want to get a new internal drive, 500GB or 1TB, depends on the price. Could someone please recommend something? I'm not that good with this kinda stuff so help would be appreciated. What brand to go for/to not go for, etc.
I was told to check out crucial.com, and i entered my specs in but all they gave me was a 250GB SSD, thats not enough. Plus it was £100+. I'm sure i can get a 500GB SSD for around £60, and a 1TB SSD for not that much more..
    Thanks
Here's the link to the crucial SSD: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=70D0AE92A5CA7304

SSD = Solid State Drive - No moving parts, just chips. Super fast, expensive and really expensive in larger sizes.
HD or Hard Drive = Mechanical spinning disks coated with a magnetic surface which tiny read/write heads on mechanical arms which move rapidly back and forth read and write to. The standard usual kind of mass storage. Much slower than SSD drives, but cheaper. Laptops take 2.5" versions and they come generally in 5400rpm and 7200rpm speeds with the 7200 drives being better performing, but still way slower than SSD.
SSHD - Seagates name for a mechanical drive with a small amount of SSD built in as cache. In between SSD and HD in speed, but overall closer to HD. Slightly more expensive than HD (+£10 to +£15 difference).

    Hi,
You have to replace the old battery. The part number is: 593554-001 for a 55Wh or 593553-001 for a 47Wh battery. Search the part number on google shopping or ebay for the best price.

  • Is there a way to reset the battery to make it last longer without getting a new battery?

I have an ipod touch 4th generation 8GB and the battery was ruined by accidentaly overcharging it a few times. I was wondering if there was a way to fix the battery so it returns to the charge it is supposed to hold. I currently have without getting a new battery, or replacing it. Please respond.

Don't know of any way to "restore" a lithium ion battery like you could do when rejuvinating a nicad type battery.  If the lithium ion battery has reached a stage where it will not service the needs of your device, you need to replace it.
Usually the lithium ion batteries don't suffer much from overcharging because the proper charger will limit the charging current to a trickle.  Lithium ion batteries are more apt to suffer by letting it discharge to an almost zero state, and letting it stay that way for a period of time.

  • Battery exchange program - why wouldn't I get a new battery?

    Hi everyone,
My MBP from December 2006 has a bad battery.
    39% capacity
    173 loadcycles
turns off the computer without warning at high battery level
Now, happily I think I can get a new one because of the date of my computer and the symptoms. Well, wrong according to Apple support in Denmark.
They checked the serialnumber of my computer (not the battery) and said it was not included in the program.
Anyone else get the same story?
    What can I do?

    Macborg wrote:
It's not a dealer. It is apple support hotline. We talked specifically about the program I linked to. What is the other program?
The other program is still linked to at http://www.apple.com/au/support/macbookpro/batteryexchange/faq/
We have seen a few instances here where support staff (both at Apple and dealers) have not realised the programs are different , and tried to apply the "serial number" process to the program where this is not relevant. Sometimes simply speaking to a different person there will resolve the issue. Some people have needed to specifically talk the support people through the two different programs though.
I don't see anywhere that it is limited to two years. Maybe I read loyer language very well.
see the final paragrpah of the page you linked to:
+This program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer for Intel Core Duo-based MacBook and MacBook Pro computers.+
