Getting a New Laptop

I have around 900 dollars that i'm willing to spend on a laptop that i'm going to use for minor video editing and just everyday use aside from that.
I was looking into the HP - Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™ i3 Processor - Espresso Black - dv6-2155dx- 4Gb ram and 500gb hard drive.  But now it has been taken off the website.
Are there any other suggestions for a new laptop? preferably with at least 4-6gb of ram and 2+Ghz of processor speed.

@davidg  I agree with No121Else, the HP's will work out great. Though I would recommend the i5 over the i3 for video editing purposes. Though I have a Mac, whenever I use iMovie my computer always runs slower, as i'm requiring more processing power. The i5 has turbo boost technology, that speeds up the computers processing power when you are doing things like video editing, to ensure that you have the same smooth experience. The i3 is great and still has 4-way multitasking (hyperthreading), but the i5 will be even better. The i7's are more in the $999 range, but I would even recommend you looking into it as well. It's our top of the line processor, has turbo boost and has 8 way multi-tasking. On this processor doing things like downloading music, streaming videos and video editing at the same time should run just as smoothly as writing a word document in Microsoft. lol That last analogy and is my view and no way the official views of Intel, but I hope now you can see the difference between the different levels of processors.

  • Im getting a new laptop.  How do i transfer my iphone to it without losing everything?

how do i ensure that i dont lose my apps and music, etc. when getting a new laptop?

Transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer per the instructions included with this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751\
You will also need to transfer all photos from your old computer to your new computer that were transferrred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.

  • If I get a new laptop will I need to update CC subscription?

    Hi,
I just recently got Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 and they're wonderful and now I don't always have to use the programs at school.
But my laptop is getting old and starting to slow down and it runs okay but I know eventually it wont be able to handle Adobe CC.
If I buy a new computer will I be able to download Adobe CC without any issues or will I have to update my subscription? If I only have to uninstall the adobe programs on the old laptop and then just reinstall onto the new one then thats no issue. I just don't know if I'll need to update any info or not, if I get a new laptop/computer and download the Adobe CC programs onto the new one.

    There's nothing to update.
On the old laptop, open any CC app, click Help > Sign Out and the entire suite will be deactivated. That frees up an activation for you to use elsewhere.
On the new computer, install CC as usual and they'll activate automatically as part of the install.

  • Upgrade cpu or get a new laptop?

I currently have a compaq presario cq56 notebook pc that only has the intel celeron processing unit (Sadly my mom didn't know anything about cpu or memory and just picked a random laptop for me). I am constantly running into conflicts because the cpu is too slow to suit my needs, I'm a college student that is constantly working on ten things at once!
I am very satisfied with the laptop other than the cpu problem so I've run into the dilemma of not knowing whether or not to try and upgrade my processor or simply get a new laptop all together.
Buying a new processor is cheaper than a new laptop (the cheaper the better since college forces me live on way too tight of a budget) but I don't even know how to find out what processors are compatible with this laptop specifically. I think the intel core i5 would be strong enough to suit my needs but will that processor be compatible with the compaq presario cq56?
So basically, would it be worth it to just upgrade my CPU or will that not change much and should I just take the leap and get a completely new laptop?
    current processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU    900 @ 2.20GHz   2.19GHz
    current installed memory:     2.00 GB
current system type:     64-bit operating system

    Hi,
This is a list of processors supported from day 1:
    Intel® Celeron® 900 processor (2.2 GHz)
    Intel® Pentium® T4500 processor (2.3 GHz)
Intel Celeron T3500 processor (2.1 GHz)
Intel Celeron T3300 processor (2.0 GHz)
Looks like you can't upgrade to anywhere only some T or may be P CPU's.
    Regards.

  • Upgrading Photoshop and getting onto new laptop

I have Photoshop CS4 Student Edition on my current laptop and it came with 2 copies (you could put it on 2 computers), but I've had to put both my copies on the laptop because I upgrade my OS at one point from Vista to Windows 7 and the first copy got deleted and I had to reinstall everything.  I'm planning on getting a new laptop soon because my current one has never really been able to handle Photoshop, but I want to have Photoshop on the new one.  If I upgrade to CS6 on my current laptop would I get 2 new copies like when I originally got the program (so I can put the 2nd copy of CS6 on to a new laptop)?
I only ask this cause I don't have $700 to spend on a whole new Photoshop program and I couldn't find anything about how many copies (1 or 2) you get with an upgrade on the FAQ sections.
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

When you get a new laptop, do you need to let it fully run out of charge before charging it up again?

No, I use as much as I can connected to AC with a monthly discharge to about the 40% charge level.  If in portable mode with no AC available, I will let the MBP operate until the low charge warning appears. then I will terminate the session.  Total battery discharge should be avoided.

  • How do I get my new laptop to recognize my home share?  It will not recognize my old laptop

I am having trouble getting my new HP laptop to recognize my itunes "homeshare".   My old laptop sees the new laptop, but my new one doesn't connect with the old laptop.  Any suggestions?

    Follow these steps:
1- Plug your iPhone into your laptop.
    2- Launch iTunes
3- After your device's been recognized, sellect it
4- Then go to the "Summary" tab, on the top of iTunes window just below the apple logo
5- On the "Options" sellec (put a check mark) on the "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" box
    6- Apply your change
That's it, from now on whenever you plug your iPhone into your laptop, iTunes will start automatically

  • I synced firefox information to the servers and exchanged my laptop. How can I get the new laptop to sync with my firefox data?

I want to get my firefox sync data on my laptop. However, I haven't paired this device, I just have my information on the firefox servers under my account. How can I get the sync info on this new laptop?

If you don't have a 2nd device available which is already setup with your Sync account, pairing can't be done.
In order to set up a '''new device''' when you can't "pair", you need three things; the user account name ''(email address used)'', the password for the account, and the '''Sync Key'''.
If you didn't make a copy of the Sync Key as prompted at the end of the Sync set up process, you can't successfully setup a new device and won't be able to recover your data.

  • I have pages on my IMac using OS 10.6.8, if I get a new laptop would it work if updated?

I currently am still using Snow Leopard because when I updated to Lion I did not like how it changed many of my apps., and or they would not work. I am thinking of getting a Apple laptop which would run on a newer OS, so I was wondering if my Pages app would work on it if updated?

Just sign into the Mac App Store using the same Apple I.D.
You can install on as many Macs as you like.

  • How much Ram do I need? (getting a new laptop, help me please!)

    Hi!
So I'm in the market for a new laptop since my current one can't manage at all.
I've found an MSI laptop that I really want :
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GS70-STEALTH.html#specification
It's a gaming laptop but it's got all the specs I've been looking for and the thiness and lightness of it is just astounding.
The only problem is that it's only able to have 16 GB of RAM, will this be enough?
I mostly use Premiere pro cs6 where I'm confident that 16 GB will be enough, I'm a bit worried about After effects cs6 though. I don't use AE everyday and when I do it's as a hobby but I do still sometimes use it quite a bit, at the same time as running Premiere. And once I get a laptop that can actually handle AE I will probably start using it more.
So what do you think, will 16 GB of Ram be enough?
I am currently using a laptop with only 6 GB (and it's a nightmare, although the other specs of this laptop aren't really worth smiling about either)
I would really appreciate any and all help!
    /Lisa

    > I just recently realised that the graphic cards in all of the laptops I've been looking at are not supported by neither Premiere pro cs6 nor After effects cs6.
That is not a correct characterization.
The GPUs that you list are supported for use by these applications.
In the case of After Effects, there is one---and only one---feature that doesn't work on the cards that you list... and it's a feature that you don't need to worry about: GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer. That's all.
    Put differently:
"IMPORTANT: A common misconception is that After Effects requires CUDA features of one of a specific set of Nvidia GPUs. That is not true. Only the GPU-accelerated ray-traced 3D renderer requires this. The other GPU features work on any GPU that meets certain basic requirements, including AMD and Intel GPUs. See below for details."
(from this page: GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects CS6 and After Effects CC)
The case of Premiere Pro is only somewhat different. You can use all of the features in the application; it's just that some of them will be faster with a certain GPU. Details:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2011/02/cuda-mercury-playback-engine-and-adobe-premiere -pro.html
Also, the CC versions of these applications allow you to use any GPU that meets certain requirements for the features described above. It is here that you do enter into "unsupported" territory, because enabling the usage of the GPU for these features can put the system into an untested and unsupported state.

  • I'm getting a new laptop and putting my ipod software on it- one question

Okay, I know that I have to put my ipod software on my new laptop so that it will recognize my ipod- but will it download my music and videos onto my itunes on my new computer then? Or do I need to save my music and videos and send them another way?- (>'.')><('.'<) Kristina R

"I know that I have to put my ipod software on my new laptop so that it will recognize my ipod"
Actually you don't. The iPod software is installed on the iPod not a computer. Providing a computer has iTunes installed, you can use your iPod on any number of computers.
"will it download my music and videos onto my itunes on my new computer then?"
No. It's most important that you do not connect a fully loaded iPod to an empty iTunes library. If you do this, and you have the iPod set to auto transfer, then you run the risk that everything on your iPod will be deleted and replaced with what is in the iTunes you just connected to and that will most likely be empty.
If you still have access to the old computer with all your songs on it, you can use this method to transfer them to your new computer.
How to move your music to a new computer using iTunes 6.
    or
How to use move your music to a new computer using iTunes 7.
If you no longer have access to the old computer, and the only pace you have the music is on the iPod, you can use something such as CopyPod which not only moves music, but also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.
If you have any questions please post back, but whatever you do, don't connect your iPod to an empty iTunes!
    PS.
You can transfer any music purchased from the iTunes music store from iPod to an authorized computer by connecting the iPod and choosing File > Transfer purchases From iPod from the iTunes menu. This works in iTunes 7 or later.

  • I wanted to download lightroom and pay the $9.99 monthly however in the next few months I am hoping to get a new laptop, will I be able to transfer?

I am trying to find out if I can download lightroom and pay the $9.99 for the yearly contract however within the next few months if all goes well, I am hoping to have a new laptop. Will I be able to transfer and download again or would I have to cancel (then be charged the 6 months) and start a new contract with the new laptop. Thanks!

No, just install the creative cloud application on the new machine and log on using your adobe account and you should be able to install direct from there without uninstalling from your previous machine. You can have it installed on multiple machines, you just can't simultaneously use it on more than one machine, which is why it makes you log on to the creative cloud.
