Getting a wall plug in Europe

Hi,
Do you think it's possible to get a power cord/wall adapter in Europe for a Macbook that I bought in the U.S or will it mess up the computer? Should I just get a power transformer/converter instead?
Mariel

There's no need to purchase a new power adapter, all you need is the plug adapter. The power adapters are already world-ready so you don't need a power converter. You just need the right plug. So, yes, you can buy a power adapter in Europe if you want and it will work fine with your MacBook, but you don't need to.

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • HT1476 My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones. I'm stumped :/

My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones and a USB cord that works from the laptop won't work from 3 or 4 different wall boxes that work for others. I'm stumped :/

Update: It seems as though the phone will charge if I plug it in and then turn it off.  It will not charge while the phone is on.  Also iTunes will not recognize it, so I can't sync or anything.  I read somewhere that it could be a fuse somewhere?? Or maybe the dock connector. Where is the best place to get this repaired?

  • IPAD 2 Won't Charge on USB port on my laptop, my desktop Mac but will charge via the wall plug

I am confused on what to do with my IPAD 2.  It won't charge via my USB Port on my PC that I travel with.  Also I just purchased a new desktop Mac and it will not charge on that USB port either.  But it will charge via the Wall Plug that came with it.  I am worried when I travel to different countries to use the wall plug.  I have an adapter to switch power.  I am from Canada and travel oversees where the power is 240 vs the 120 at home.  If I use my plug adapter and plug in my ipad to the wall Will I destroy the battey in my IPAD 2.  I love my ipad to travel with but it is very frustrating when it will not charge on my PC or on the airplane.  Then I am afraid to use the wall plug in the airport because of the difference in power.  Would really appreciate some help here because I am oversees 2 weeks a month and only get a couple days use of my IPAD.  I have all my books and everything on it and need to be able to recharge it.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Confused!!!!

For better future reference, you should be aware that the voltage means nothing when it comes to charging power. All that that is telling you is that the Power Adapter will work across that voltage range, i.e., you don't need a transformer to plug it into the outlet (although you may need different plugs, which is a separate topic).
What matters is the amperage (A) and the power in watts (W). The Power Adapter puts out 2 A @ 5 VDC (volts DC), which means it's producing 10 watts of power. It will output that across the entire voltage range.
A high-power USB port on a PC will put out 0.5A @ 5VDC, or 2.5 W. Be aware that not all of the ports on any given PC are likely to be putting out even that much power, at may well be putting out less than half as much. That's why you'll often see the "Not Charging" when plugged into a USB port, especially on Windoze laptops, and why it will charge very slowly even when it works.
FYI, the charger which is sold with the iPhone looks identical, is called the same thing, but only puts out 1A. It will work on the iPad but will charge more slowly. By that same token, the iPad charger will charge an iPhone just fine, it will just charge faster.

  • Pic of wall plug wont go away

i got a new cpu and tried to restore my ipod to original settings to put all new music, but when i did, it told me to plug into the wall to finish the restore. so i did this and nothing has happened. it has had a pic of a wall plug on it for the past few days and i dont know what else to do. ive tried to reset it but nothing works. any ideas?

You need to plug it into an wall outlet, I had the same problem and had to buy a firewire power plug to get mine to work. Plus if you have a radio shack near you, you can ask them to plug it in for you to get it out of the wall socket to finish restoring or updating. USB wall plugs dont like to work, unless you find one for an ipad which i have also used to get it to fully restore.

  • Droid Ultra has suddenly stopped charging from the wall plug-in

My Droid Ultra has suddenly stopped charging from the wall plug-in. I've tried every charger in the house. I've tried to plug it into a wall charger at work in case there may be an issue with my outlets at home, but it won't charge from a wall plug-in from any location. However it will chage if I plug it into the computer or my portable battery charger. Any ideas why it won't charge from a wall plug-in and how I may fix it?

Let's get your phone charged, chaseperil! You stated that you have tried every charger in your home. Have you tried the whole charger or just the cable? We want to make it is not the plug part of the charger. Are you using the charger that came in the box?

  • Meaning of the wall-plug icon while in charger

    Hello !
When I charge my iPhone it first has the lightning bolt while charging, then switches to the wall plug icon when its charged. When I leave it this way, the battery depletes slowly just as my macbook does until it reaches about 93% then the lightning bolt is displayed again indicating its again charging to 100%.
Ok so here is my question: When its finished charging and the wallplug icon is shown, does the iPhone still get some "small" charging current to slow down battery depletion or nothing at all? Or in other words: Does it make a difference when I take the phone off the charger as soon as the wall plug is shown compared to leaving it in the dock?
    Kind regards,
    Sascha

OK, please let me rephrase what you said (this helps me to check if I understood ):
The lightning bolt changes to the wall plug when charging of the battery is complete. At this time, the battery is internally disconnected from the phone and the charger.
From this point on the operation of the phone is entirely maintained by the charger as the battery is not "connected".
Even while the battery is not connected it will slowly deplete due to internal leakages and other chemical processes.
As soon as these internal leakages drop the battery level under a certain percentage, the phone connects the charger again to the battery and charges it back to 100%, then disconnects the charger again.
When the charger is disconnected from the phone, the phone connects itself again to the battery to power the phones normal operation by the battery.
    Right?
Correct me if I am wrong, but this means, that it is totally harmless for the battery if the phone is left in the charger, as the battery is only charged when the internal processes dropped the charge level under about 95% which does not occur often, and in the meantime the phone is powered by the charger.
By the way, when left in the charger my 4S needs about 2 days to drop low enough to be recharged, thats about 93%.

  • Wall plug icon won't go away

I was given an iPod mini just before Christmas. It had been used with a Mac, so I plugged it into my Windows XP machine and did a restore. It got all the way as per the manuals to the point of saying unplug it from the computer and plug it into the wall to complete the firmware update. It's been plugged into the wall for over 24 hours and nothing changes - just alternating wall plug and apple icons. The computer doesn't recognise anything is plugged into the USB port. Does anyone have a solution to this?
    IBM ThinkPad   Windows XP Pro

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to AC adapter.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Also try the same thing while connected to the computer

  • IPod displays a picture of a power adapter and wall plug & won't go away!

Okay, I am trying to update a mini ipod for my neice. I originally have the 20GB ipod. Hers however is the 1.1 mini ipod... and I think it was formated for windows on a pc, but I didn't know this until after I reset it on my mac.
I reset it to the factory setting, but it said I needed to plug it into the wall jack to complete the software settings... which is cool and fine. So i did by USB, but now all I get is this iPod displays a picture of a power adapter and wall plug. The icon will not go away and neither will anything change. I can't turn it off and if I try to bring up anything, all I get is the apple and then this icon, over and over again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Ipod Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   I think this mini was formated for a PC, does that matter?

Actually I did do what is it said, and it continued to blink the power adapter and wall plug picture, while I had it plugged into the wall socket. So that is why I posted this question.
So someone else actually replied to my question and said that I have to plug it into my car ac adapter and it would finish rebooting... which it did.
Thanks for the tips. I'm not computer iliterate, I'm just learning about the ipod.

  • The wall plugs keeps failing on my itouch

Bought the wall plug from apple, after 2 month it no longer works.  Are there any issues with this item

There shouldn't be any problems with the plug. There might be a problem, and you can bring it to the Apple Store you bought it from, tell them that it has stopped working with your iPod (bring it with you), and they can help you fix it.
Before you do that though, try simple things. Turn your iPod off, wait a few minutes, plug it into the charger and turn it on if it doesn't automaticly. It that doesn't help, reset the iPod (not the way that deletes everything) through iTunes and see if that helps. If that doesn't, you can try reformatting it and replacing all your apps, or you can take it to the Apple Store.
I'm not sure if it came with a warrenty when you bought it, but if it did, you may be able to get a replacement for free. If not, you may have to buy another one if the folks at the Apple Store can't fix your problem.
    Good luck!

  • I am planning to buy a iPod in America and bringing it back to Ireland and buying an Irish wall plug for the iPod, will this damage the battery because of the different voltages used?

I am buying it in new York and brining back to Ireland

You can even use a wall plug bought in the USA in Ireland.  The USA charger will accept eith 117 or 220V input.  All you need is an adapter to convert from the USA flat plug to an Irish style plug.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

  • How do I use a 2nd Airport Extreme plugged into an Ethernet Wall Plug to join an existing wireless network to give me a better signal upstairs?

I have a 5th generation Airport Extreme giving me a great wireless signal on the 1st floor of my house. However the signal upstairs is weak. So I purchased another 5th generation Airport Extreme that I would like to plug into an ethernet wall plug upstairs. I would then like to have the upstairs Airport Extreme join the same network thus giving me a good wirelss signal upstairs. I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.7.4. Can somebody give me step-by-step directions to set up the upstairs Airport Extreme?

I assume that the new AirPort Extreme is still in its original factory default settings.
Before you connect the AirPort Extreme, please connect a laptop to the Ethernet cable that will be used for the connection and turn off the wireless on the laptop. Make sure that you can can connect to the Internet before you begin to configure the AirPort Extreme.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the laptop and connect it to the WAN "O" port on the upstairs AirPort Extreme and power it up.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 6.1
Look in the upper left hand corner of the screen for a tab or box that reads "Other AirPort Base Stations (1)"
Click on that box, then click on the name AirPort Extreme xxxxxx
Wait a moment while AirPort Utility analyzes the network and then displays a message that the AirPort Extreme will be configured to extend your existing wireless network.
Enter a Base Station (device) name for the AirPort Extreme (and a device password if prompted), then click Next.
Wait another minute or two until AirPort Utility notifies you that the AirPort Extreme has been Set Up.
    That's it.

Battery not charging with usb port but works fine with wall plug.. So the prob is computer is not detecting the iphone5 . This problem started after upgrading to 6.1.3 version

Try to see what happens on another computer. If it works on another computer, the issue is not at the iPhone.
