Getting an error 99 on my 30D. Help.

I have been getting an error 99 when I try to take a pic with my 30D. The camera says to turn it off and then on and reinstall the battery. I did this, but it doesn't work. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

To isolate the cause of the error 99, we suggest that you try the following steps.  Your removal of the battery was a good first thing to try.  I'll have you re-do it here for the sake of going in order below   
 1.  Turn off the camera.
 2.  Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
 3.  Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
 4.  Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
 5.  Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does error 99 still appear?  Please proceed with the following steps.
 6.  Format the CF card in the camera.  This will erase all data on the card so please be sure to save the images first. 
 7.  Also, please attempt the use of a new card properly formatted in the camera. 
 8.  Clean the lens contacts by gently cleaning then with a new, soft, micro fiber cloth.  If possible, please attempt the use of a different Canon lens on the camera. 
 9.  Turn on the camera.
10.  Depress the shutter button to take a picture.  Does the error 99 still appear on the camera? 
If multiple lenses cause the same error to be appear, then the camera should be sent in for service.  If only one lens causes it, then likely it's just that one lens which should be serviced.  You can set up service through our web site, here.

    Take a look at iTunes for Windows: "Error 7" message when opening iTunes. Perhaps your .NET Framework needs a repair.
    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

    You can use an external drive with LR but I recommend only using it for
    image file storage while keeping your catalog on your internal HD for
    performance. If you moved files outside of LR (Finder or Explorer) you will
    have to clue LR in on where they are now. Use the left-hand folder panel in
    Library mode to navigate to the location on your external drive and use the
    find photo option get LR to reconnect them. If you moved the catalog and
    now LR can't find it you should get a window allowing you to select a new
    one where you can navigate to the new location and select it. You can also
    just start LR by clicking on the Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat file to open it
    and start LR.

    Ok, I figured it out . Duh... It helps to be in the administrator account on one's computer. I was in the guest account that I had set up for other users. During the download there is a query to allow Adobe access to make changes. This permission can only be given in the administrator account. Anyone else having issues should also consider this.
    Romit,  I found the thread you refer to, and though I initially tried to do the steps you gave, I had no other Adobe software running. So then I had a ahaaaa moment or rather a duhhhhh moment. Thank you very much for your reply!!!

    This is often caused by a corrupted render file. You might try isolating it by the old technique of marking in/out for half of the timeline, then halving that, etc... until you find the offending area, then remove the renders for that section by selecting it and pressing ctrl-b, ctrl-b (that's control-b twice). This will disable/enable a clip and force a re-render...

  • HP Photosmart D110a wont print from HP Pav dv7 laptop, getting weird error msg - can anyone help??

    Im running on a Windows Visa Home Premium OS, looks like Service Pack 2, and have not made any system changes to my laptop or upgraded anything recently.
    Was able to print fine from my laptop on Monday, but 3 days later Im getting this error message: ""the job failed to print due to an error in the printing system" when trying to print a standard MS Word doc.
    I can still get the printer to print fine by using the control panel on the unit itself and requesting to "Run a Wireless Network Test" and also when I've requested a "Print Status Report", "Print Quality Report", etc.  But when sending files from the laptop it refuses to work.
    If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know - desperate to get this thing back up online but unfortunately Im a tech idiot and havent been able to solve it yet, though Ive searched for hours now it seems.

  • Importing .MOV files from PC and getting "generic error" msgs... help.

    Importing .mov files which I downloaded from my iPhone onto my PC (so getting them from file folder, not directly from iPhone). However, getting "importer is reporting generic error" message with a list of video files that didn't get imported. Some are importing, though, and showing up on the timeline. Downloaded a whole bunch at a time and thought it was the problem. Then just tried one that had the error to test and that one wouldn't either, even by itself.
    These are MOV files from iPhone 4 recorded with "stock" camera program on phone. Using Premiere Elements 11.
    Please help.

    Along with Steve's questions, I have one more:
    Did your iPhone shoot with a Variable Frame Rate?
    That is common with many of the phone cameras, and especially the iPhones. You can run your file through MediaInfo (for PC), or Media Inspector (for Mac), and then report the FPS (Frames Per Second). If it is constant, it should Import fine. If it is variable, then you might have to convert that to a Fixed Frame Rate. One method is to use Apple's QuickTime Pro (a US $30 upgrade/unlock), and just Import the file into QT Pro, then Export to the same format, but with a Fixed Frames Per Second.
