Getting around a screen lock on an old mac

Hi all. This is a longshot. I have an old mac se that I just tried to use after many years. It starts, but the security software I apparently put on it (Empower 4.0.8) is asking for a username and password, and while the username pops up automatically (and is my name), I am at a loss to remember the password, and I have tried every possibility I can think of with caps on and off...many times.
If I try to boot from a floppy I get a message that says something like "Cannot start from floppy drive with Empower enabled". The Empower icon appears as a little system extension box at the bottom of the screen with a little keyhole icon. I've also tried holding various (though probably not all) combinations of shift/option/command/control to no avail.
Anybody with any ideas?
Many Thanks!

It is Empower II, version 4.0.8.
I did unplug the SE for about an hour, tried zapping PRAM again.....no luck.
You are correct both points: I can boot from a floppy if I hold down the apple-option-shift-delete keys, but I do not see the HD icon. When I don't hold down the key sequence I get the message that "Empower has disabled startup from floppy drive".
The message occurs after both the happy mac and the Welcome to Macintosh screens are complete.
When I try to startup normally (without a system floppy) it goes through both screens, then all the system extension/desk accessory icons start loading on the bottom, then the screen changes to a different background without the other extension icons, but with just the Empower icon with its little key symbol, then the Empower panel appears asking for a name and password. During this last step I briefly see what looks like a tiny hard drive icon in the upper right corner of the screen flashing on and off for a few seconds, which then disappears when the Empower panel comes on. It doesn't respond to clicks
Thanks very much for trying to help me.

Even when go on voice control screen and hold power off and home screen down nothing No response. Help please? My mother very sick in hospital and need my mobile!!

Have you tried to power off and on?  If that doesn't work and the reset didn't work, have you tried connecting to iTunes to see if it is recognized?
If none of this works you probably need to visit an Apple genius bar and have it checked out by the techs.

Getting the black screen on my 6mth old macbook pro. Reboot and nothing happens. It sometimes rebbots by holding down on/ off key. But will go black screen and die a few minutes later. Any help much appreciated.

If you experience distorted video or no video . . . take your affected product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store to determine which service and support options are available. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
No, it has not cost anything in the past.
Note: as of Dec 7th 2012, it is unlikely products qualify for this extended repair coverage.
That does not mean it's an automatic "no."

Are you sure of that?  Check in the Library.  Click on the Apps icon to see all apps.  Similarly click on the Music icon to see the songs.

That sounds like it's requestion the Find My Mac passcode.  If you don't know it, you'll have to take it to a nearby Apple store with proof of purchase/ownership as only they can unlock it for you.

  • UNIX command open. How do I get around warning screens?

    Hello
I am trying to run an installation of an app program through UNIX commands, since I want to deploy it using ARD. This app is actually an Adobe CS5 update. I managed to get it the installation started using the OPEN unix command. However, I am prompted with a security warning "Installer" is an application downloaded from the insternet. Are you sure you want to open it" Of course the answer would be yes, but I want to do this with no user intervension. Any ideas to get around this?

Automating as far as building disk images, or packaging for mass deployment on an ad hoc basis?
As far as building disk images goes, you might want to get into InstaDMG to build fresh, never-booted OS images. For packaging and deployment on an Ad Hoc basis, there are a number of options: Radmind (although this deals less with packaging and IMO acts more like DeepFreeze), Casper Admin Suite (I use this tool), Munki, etc. There's also DeployStudio but I don't know much about this one.
Munki, DS, and Radmind are free/open source, Casper is pricey, but worth it if you have a large number of macs to manage.

  • How do I get my font suitcase fonts on my old Mac to my new 10.8.5 mac?

    Hi Everyone,
I recently bough a new mac laptop becaue my desktop mac was running slow and not letting me use my design applications properly (freezing, crashing, and in general just being slow). I am a graphic designer, and have fonts on my old desktop mac that I need to have on my new laptop mac for client work.
I went thru my old mac (I am not sure what original version it is, but it had been upgraded a few times to the 10.6.8), found all of the fonts and collected them into one folder, placed it on my new mac, and proceeded to install the fonts. The problem that I am having is that my old mac has a lot of fonts that are a font suitcase file, instead of a regular font format, and I cannot install these onto my new mac.
I do not have access to any other forms of these fonts, so I only have the font suitcase versions.
Is there something that I can do to make these install? It's becoming a pain to have to open up a document on my old mac to get the font and then outline it and open it on the new one (since the old one runs slow).
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Melissa

I am not sure, how would I find that out?
You kind of have to know ahead of time. But here's one example of a Type 1 PostScript font:
The suitcase here has .scr (short for screen fonts) tacked on. Sometimes it will say .bmap (bitmapped screen fonts, same thing). Many won't have any extension. It doesn't matter if they do or not. This particular font has only one matching printer font. The suitcase will have at least as many screen fonts in it as there are outline fonts for the set.
A Mac legacy TrueType font will have the same icon and also have a Kind description of "font suitcase". There really isn't anything that will easily set them apart to know which one you have.

  • HT4889 How do I get the files that transferred from my old mac to this new mac to all merge so I am not using 2 set ups? In other words, I have stuff on the "new mac" and everything else on the "old mac" even though they are on the same computer.

I need to merge my files that were transferred from my old mac to my new mac - for some reason I now have 2 separate setups on my new mac.  I need everything merged to one account.
    Thanks!

Did you use Migration Assistant? If you set up your new Mac first, you created a user account and when you used MA later, it transferred over the old one. The only way to avoid that is to use Setup Assistant at the beginning of the setup. I used MA once and spent a long time getting rid of duplicates - you can either do that manually or start over: use recovery (Command + R or Command + Option + R keys) during startup, go to Utilities > Disk Utility, erase your disk and download/install again. While going through the setup, use Setup Assistant - it will port over your one and only user account rather than create another.

  • I needed an ipod and found my brother's old one, but he is away at college and doesn't remember the password. Is there any way to get past the screen lock or find it out?

I tried guessing, but niether himself or I could find out what it is. Please help. It isn't like I stole it. It was just in the far reaches of a drawer, long forgotten and I"m trying to revive it. Thank you.

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore via iTunes. If iTunes asks for the pascode and you can't enter the passcode aor you do not have the syncing computer, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD

  • Getting music and files off a very old Mac issue

Hi, my Mac is pretty old and cannot update from iTunes 7 upwards. I really need to get all my music off iTunes but the WD hard drive won't even register in the profiler. I can't home share onto another system so what is the best solution?

Could you get the model number of the old PowerMac?
At some stage (About 1995) Apple started using IDE rather than SCSI hard drives. If it's an IDE drive then the simple solution is to take the hard drive out of the PowerMac and install it in a Firewire Hard Disk Enclosure.
    kind regards

  • Getting a New Macbook, will restoring from Old Mac make it slow??

    Hello!
Ive had my Macbook since early 08 and am finally going to get a new one! This one is quite slow, it takes forever to "think", the rainbow ball is spins a lot. I currently use time machine to back up my macbook, and have a few questions: If I load my current hd onto the new Macbook, will it be slow like this one? Once I get a new macbook, I will erase the content on this one, will it still be slow? It has a new, large hard drive, so Im not sure why its so slow! Is this the processor slowing down? Im not too computer savvy
    Thank you!

Read this and choose what you think serves your interests best:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html
It is best to reinstall non Apple applications later.  You should be able to install a new OS at anytime you choose without any affect in your data.  With that said, always have a backup.
    Ciao.

  • Screen Lock password help!!

I know that if you plug you iPod nano into the computer, it gets rid of screen lock, but if you forgot your password for screen lock, is there any way to find out what it was?

Connecting the iPod to the computer only disables the lock until you select to lock it again, it doesnt actually get rid of the password. By the sounds of things, you already know that.
If you cannot remember the password, the only way to unlock the iPod permanently and set a new one (hopefully this time one that you remember) is to Restore the iPod.
To restore, connect the iPod, open the iPod updater and click restore. It will take around 5 minutes and will delete all the songs off of your Nano, so make sure they are all OK on the computer first.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
