Getting around my school's internet cut-off time

I currently attend a prep school out on the east coast, and they have rules like a prison. One thing that really irritates me is that at 11:30 PM every night they shut off the internet. I can still see full bars in my airport but I cannot access any thing online, not even through iTunes store or Mail. Is there any way I can get around this and access the internet after it has been shut off?

Probably not... It sounds like the school is cutting off access to external networks (i.e., the internet) at 11:30 (or, more likely, cutting off the access points in the dorms from external networks).
It's not a hardware issue or something you can address in your computer -- it's a change in the network itself. I suppose you could break into your school's network operating center and change the settings, but that would be difficult, illegal, and probably get you expelled.
Of course, you could get an EVDO-modem for your MBP (Verizon has one that uses the ExpressCard slot). Service is about $80/month, and the speeds are not quite broadband, but if you really need to get on the network it might be worth looking into.
Or you could just go to bed at 11:30...

  • Internet cuts off everytime I answer the phone

    Everytime I answer the phone, my Internet cuts off.  When I hang up the phone, the Internet comes back and I can connect.  I did not have this problem until we had the TV's connected to Fios.

    You don't say so but I am guessing you are using a 2.4 GHz cordless home phone and a wireless connection from your router for your PC(s). If so, usually the easiest fix is to log into the router and change the channel that the router is using for wireless for your PC. I think by default the router is set to automatically pick the channel to use; just change the setting to use one of these channels: 1, 6, or 11. Depending on the activity in your area you may have to try all of those to find the one that works best. For me, I found that channel 1 works best with my cordless phone and my neighbor's wireless internet, but your experience may be different.

     Take it somewhere that has better broadband. The best you can do sometimes is invest in new modem that works with your system instead of the rental etc in most cases.
    Do a Safe Boot.
    Make sure your firewall is set properly. Don't use 3rd party. AV software can get in the way.
    Make sure you are getting the service and a clean strong modem signal - slow is one thing but if it drops off and can't maintain a connection you have hardware issues, not software - and upgrade to a new OS doesn't tend to improve, it may even not work with older networking equipment once you do get it.
     I agree and think electronic only goes too far. And when you do get it: burn the package and manually set it aside first before running the intaller! make a flash memory installer, put it on DVDs too.

    Hello Nilesh
    Apart from what usasapsd usasapsd  mentioned, you need to maintain working hours and assign them to the Factory calendar and/or Shipping Point.

  • Order entry cut off time to avoide same day line itme confirmation

    Hello Friends,
    We have a very unique requirement as below u2013
    Business want SAP System to automatically determine the Order entry cut off time to avoid same day line item confirmation. I.e. If an order is entered after a specific time in a day (For example if order is entered after 2 PM local time) system should not confirm that order on the same day. In such cases system should confirm the schedule line for that line item on the next day.
    Requesting you kindly guide us if there is something we can do in SAP to achieve this.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Amol Wadekar.

    Hi,
    check the Rounding Work days in the shipping point customizing.
    "Rounding-up period for delivery scheduling (in days)
    The amount of time that the system automatically adds as a safety margin to the estimated time required for processing a delivery."

  • Internet cuts off when using the phone

    The last few days, as soon as the phone rings or as soon as we use it the internet completely cuts off.
    We have recently moved the positioning of the router to pick up a better signal and it has improved (still not the best) but now this problem has occured.
    Help would be appreciated...

    If you have moved it to an extension socket, then that socket may be wired up incorrectly. If you have plugged a phone into the original location of the BT Home hub, have you remembered to insert a microfilter before the phone?

It's not a virus because the computers been thru 2 System Recoverys. Is it the modem box and is there anything I can do to fix it?

  • Internet cuts off

    Hi,
    Months ago I posted on here that my speeds on my line were really slow, after some helpful users my speeds picked up and it was sorted. Now I have gained a new problem. Speed is fine, however now, at random times, this happens at no specific times, my internet will just stop. it can be whilst im doing anything, gaming, browsing etc... It can even be fine, then not used at all until I go back to use it and its not working. Each time, sometimes more than once a day, sometimes omce a day, sometimes once every couple days, I have to go unplug the router for different times between 10 seconds to 10 minutes,before restarting which fixes it. Could this be a fault with the router, I have home hub 3. Or is this likely to be a fault on the line?
    Any help appreciated
    regards, Adam

  • Online order cut off times for next day delivery

    what is the latest time I can order off your web site for next day delivery?thanks

    For all waiting on your preorders- I preordered mine Sept. 5th about 5 hours after the announcement (engraved, standard shipping). It was shipped Sept. 19th and was delivered to my house at 10am today (Sept. 20th), despite having an estimated delivery date of Sept. 21st. As noted in another post, they seem to be coming out of Kunshan, China and then Shanghai and Anchorage, Alaska. Mine might have arrived a day early because Indianapolis is a major FedEx hub and there is a direct flight from Anchorage to Indy. Suspect many will get their Touch models today and tomorrow.

  • ImageIcons in a JLabel get their top-most row of pixels cut off

    Hello. I've added a "Loading..." screen to my application that basically consists of a JWindow with a background image. However, I've noticed something odd when adding an ImageIcon to a JLabel. It seems that any image I add gets its top row of pixels cut off. The small program below illustrates this.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class JLabelTest {
       static final String WINDOW_IMAGE = "my_image.jpg";
        * Create and display the loading screen
       private static void displayLoadingScreen()
          SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
             public void run() {
                JWindow winLoadingScreen = new JWindow();
                ImageIcon loadingImg = new ImageIcon(WINDOW_IMAGE);
                JLabel lblImage = new JLabel(loadingImg);
                winLoadingScreen.getContentPane().add(lblImage);
                winLoadingScreen.pack();
                System.out.println("label dimensions:      " + lblImage.getSize().width + " x " + lblImage.getSize().height);
                System.out.println("image icon dimensions: " + loadingImg.getIconWidth() + " x " + loadingImg.getIconHeight());
                winLoadingScreen.setLocation(100, 100);
                winLoadingScreen.setVisible(true);
        * Entry point
        * @param args
       public static void main(String[] args)
          SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
             public void run()
                displayLoadingScreen();
    }(Obviously, replace my_image.jpg with something else if you'd like to run the code on your own machine.)
    When I run the program with, say, an 800 x 600 resolution image, the output I get is:
    label dimensions:      800 x 599
    image icon dimensions: 800 x 600As you can see, the image gets "shortened" by one pixel when added to the JLabel. If you look at the image that is displayed, you can see that it's the top row that gets cut off. I've tried changing the layout of the JWindow that the JLabel is being added to, but that didn't change anything. I've tried using a number of different images in varying formats, and the same thing happens to all of them.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Have you tried to set label's preferredSize manually?
    What happens when you add empty border t the label with some insets?
    regards,
    Stas

  • Shuffle cuts off ending to certain podcasts, not others

    I've noticed that all of my podcasts for Wretched Radio get the last 20-45 seconds cut off on the new 2GB shuffle. If I listen to the podcast in iTunes, it plays all the way through. Other podcasts it plays all the way through just fine.
    Anyone have any idea about what could be causing this?
    chris

    I just bought an iPod Shuffle and had this very same issue happen too. Like you, I loaded it with Wretched Radio podcasts and The Dividing Line podcasts (James White "AOMin" podcasts) and it cuts off the last 30 seconds or so of the podcasts as well.
    I bought the blue iPod Shuffle about 3 or 4 weeks ago and after a week of noticing this happen, I brought it back to the Apple store in Vancouver, BC at Pacific Centre Mall where I the Genius Bar guy who helped me, Emilio Da Silva, told me it was a hardware issue.  I basically exchanged it for another blue iPod Shuffle.  Then I went on a trip out of town for two weeks.  I noticed the same issue happening on this second iPod Shuffle.  I'm about to bring it back to the Apple store again.

  • ITunes cuts off some of my songs at exactly 3 minutes 6 seconds.

    I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion with up to date updates.  Strangely, the songs which used to play right through, now stop at exactly 3 minutes and 6 seconds.  The songs also cut off when I play then through my iPhone 4 after sycing.
    When I play the songs through VLC Media Player via Finder, they play right through perfectly.
    I wonder whether this is a fault that's come about through one of the Mountain Lion updates recently.
    I've seen a lot of posts with people's songs being cut off short but none make reference to the exact cut off time of 3 minutes, 6 seconds.
    I have gone into Get Info for the songs in iTunes and specified the ending time of each song to the song's actual length but they still stop at 3 minutes 6 seconds.  Most of my songs play through fine - it's just a bizarre handful.
    I hope there's a workaround and would appreciate a solution.
    thanks for your time.

    Hello arcuspilot,
    I would be concerned too if some of my songs were not playing all the way through in iTunes.  Thank you for all the details you provided.  You have gone through some really good troubleshooting steps already.
    The next thing I recommend is checking to see if any third-party plug-ins could be causing the problem.  You can find the steps to do that in this article:
