Getting Artifacting in my Audio Files

I'm getting artifacting in my audio files and I can't find any reason for them to become corrupt. It seems pretty random and not connected with any particular function. Artifacts appear at random in my audio files in soundtrack pro, even when I haven't done anything with them yet. Has anyone else run into this? Does anyone know how to keep it from happening?

I seem to be getting this as well. Even playing the audio track in the browser tab of STP results in artifacting, lots of clicks and hiccups. Anyone? Thanks...

How can I get a low resolution audio file?

Hello to all. I have recently upgraded my iTunes to 11.0.03. I remember being able to create a new audio file of specifications offered by the menu in iTunes. My present requirement is to make a low quality MP3 file of an existing higher quality file and find that I am unable to do it with this new version of iTunes which only creates a new version of like quality and does not offer me options of selecting the quality of the file I need to make. Any help in this matter will be deeply appreciated.

Thanks Jim for the leads. I did go into preferences>import settings and set it to the lowest offered quality. When I then selected the file and clicked, I have not been given the option of converting the file but only create:
When I had earlier clicked this option, it only resulted in a same sized file being replicated.
Anyway, I proceeded and clicked create MP3 version and, 'lo and behold' it created one according to the import settings that had been made!

Trying to re-link files after a PC crash :( I get an error saying audio file has 1 channel original

The exact error reads:
"The selected file cannot be linked because it has 1 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 2 audio channels"
Now, the project was created with the video file I am linking to, not a different one, the same one, but it absolutely will not let me use the file that it was linked to before, because of this message?
The file hasn't changed, nothing has changed, (except the drive number, which is why I'm having to re-link it), it just wont work.
Unfortunately, the clip is a good 10-minutes of the project, which was saved before the crash, but now I'm stuck with a project it looks like I am going to have to re-edit?
Has anyone seen this and/or got a fix for it?

Actually, I think some files have been lost in the crash, or corrupted, and as I still have all the original edit in-place, I'm just going to bite the bullet and replace them with the files.
I wish it was possible to re-link folders, rather than individual files inside them.. :( If it can be done, I can't seem to suss it!

Unable to edit audio file in Logic Pro

I am putting together some apple loop samples in LP 8, just some simple rhythm stuff-
I have a sample that I want to edit in the sample editor window, but I get the message:
"This audio file cannot be changed!
Volume or file is locked"
My editing choices are greyed out.
I went back to the source files to look at the permissions there-(eg, are they read only, or read and write).
In almost all cases they WERE read only, but even when I changed permissions, still got the same error message.
Also, it seems strange that the apple loops would be read only in the FIRST place- To think that I would need to change permissions at the source file of every sample I wanted to edit-each time i worked with a sample....!!! i mean that just doesn't make sense, right?!?!?
Any ideas?
BTW- I opened the same sample audio files in soundtrack pro and was able to edit them fine as I normally would (no messing with permissions, etc etc)

The thing with the Apple Loops is that since editing in the sample editor is destructive... if you did something to an apple loop that was used in other songs all those songs would now have that altered loop.
So for the apple loops you have to save it as a new file before you can edit it.
As far as the other files, just a guess here, but maybe since Logic was already looking at the file before the permissions were changed it remembers the state of permissions when it opened it.
It makes sense that your permissions need to be read-write because the sample editor changes the file as it performs its actions.

Slideshow, how to make clip the same length as audio file?

I've got several PowerPoint presentations and need to make an MP4 video file for each of them. I know how to export the slides as still images, and I also have the audio files broken up into individual mp3 files that match each slide.
I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way of getting the slides and audio files synced in Premiere Elements.
Yesterday I imported all of the png images and mp3 audio files into my project. But I had to individually add each image, followed by the mp3, and then in the timeline manually stretch the image to make it last the same length of time as the audio file. It was rather tedious and I have a lot of presentations with many slides to work with. I'm sure there must be some better way to make all of this happen, right?
Can anyone help me out here?
1. Is there a way to make the image clip match the time of the audio clip?
2. Is there a way to import all of the audio and image files at once (given they have the same names) and have PE automatically associate the image clip with the audio file?

1. You can place the audio file in the Audio 1 track of the timeline first (Timeline, not sceneline)
2. Next drop the image to where the audio file starts. Now press "\" key
3. Drag the end of the clip to exactly where the audio ends. Whe you are near the end of the audio with the drag it should simply stick to it.
4. Group the audio and image file together (Right click and select group after selecting both these together)
5. Select the clip and do a right click and use the Fade-In and out option. You can fade in the video and let the audio simply continue. This makes it look and sound good.
6. Place the next audio file and go on doing the same till all of them are done. The grouping step is not needed but when you keep working with PRE, you might just thank me for it!
I tried all these steps just as I was typing this post, so I can tell you for sure that PrE10 works as if it is designed JUST for this use case. So hoping you get to complete the project on time and with good quality!

Lost audio files

I have saved a song into another hard drive and hit save while I was working.Now when I open the project all the audio files are blank but the MIDI ones are there. I hit get info and the audio files were listed but I can't find them.
Anyone have any idea where they might be hiding? I have checked all the places I know. I am not a real technical person so have mercy!

So you have already used Spotlight to search for them? In the Bin, is there an exclamation mark behind those "lost files"? Have you checked the Folder in which the Project is saved? Did you save the project with option "Include Assets" on?

Syncing Audio Files to iCloud

I have iTunes running on a PC. In iTunes I have music that I have purchased through iTunes, and also some non-commercial audio files. These are old radio shows that I purchased on CD and imported directly to iTunes. They are not something that iTunes match is going to recognize.
I have an iPhone5 and I'd like to have both the music and the radio show audio files on it. I have the iPhone5 set to sync with the iCloud. Unfortunately only the music shows up on the iPhone5 via the iCloud. No radio show audio files.
Can someone tell me how I can get the radio show audio files into the iCloud so that they will appear on all my devices?

Thanks for the super-quick answer! Looks like that might work. You actually go 'right click,' then 'get info' and then change Media Kind from Music to Podcast. When I do that, the file disappears from my list of songs as you would expect, but doesn't show up under Podcasts in iTunes. Not sure where it went! Maybe if I wait a while it will show up in the Podcasts app on my iPhone5?
Another option seems to be 'right click' and 'Create AAC version.' This changes the 'slashed iCloud' icon, which means 'not eligible for iCloud' into an unslashed iCloud icon. Waiting for an update to see if this allows the file to be copied to iCloud and then back to my devices.
I'll post an answer if either or both of these approaches work. Thx.

How to wrap a .dts audio file into an AIFF-C container

I have a .DTS audio file that I'm trying to wrap into an AIFF-C container so I can upload that to a first generation Apple TV running ATVFlash, with the XBMC.
I've already been able to playback Aiff-C wrapped files that I've been able to rip from a CD, that use the DTS/5.1 encoder. This works great using an external DTS decoder.
The way I've been able to do this, is I've found a PC app that will multplex the DTS audio tracks from the CD into an AIFF-C without transcoding the audio. There's been no apparent loss during this procedure which is great.
I just happen to get a .dts concert audio file that I'd like to wrap into the AIFF-C container. Because this file has a .dts extension I can only open it with VLC.
Any suggestions?

I just moved my itunes library from a win 7 computer to a win 8.1 computer. Getting an error message "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Can't play CDs or get audio file from web!

Help! I just moved my itunes library from a Win 7 computer to a new Win 8.1 computer following the instructions on the itunes website. Everything is good except I'm getting an error message on the Win 8 computer if I try to play a CD or get an audio file off of the internet. I get an error message that says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. I don't know where to look for or fix the audio configuration on the win 8 computer. As far as I can tell the iTunes configuration looks the same as on the other computers in the house. At this point I don't dare plug my ipod touch into the Win 8 computer for fear it will get messed up.

I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. I get the message "nothing to display" or "no region or audio file selected" After much research on the web, I believe this is a permanent bug. Does anyone have a good work-around for this type of work. We record live 16T band rehearsals constantly and would love to be able to break individual songs out of the large file and be able to use the sampler. Thanks in advance for your ideas! Cheers.

Another thing - if I copy one of the tracks to another track, then the sample editor works on the copied track. I don't want to have to copy 16 tracks to new tracks to be able to use the sample editor on a project. Thanks again.

1 Create a Player, and add a ControllerListener
2.Start the Player
3.In the ControllerListener's controllerUpdate method, use getMediaTime() by receiving a EndOfMediaEvent
However I think this method is not convenience, if I don't want to play it how I can get the length of the audio file?

You don't need to download an App.
My understanding is that you simply have to change the file extension from .3ga to.mp3 (on each file) and then they should play.
That said, it works on a Macbook Pro - I've just tried it.
Not sure about iOS though.

How do I get iTunes U to play all files, right now it stops after each audio file and I will have to manually select the next one.

I am unable to find a way to get iTunes U to play all audio files one after the other without me manually playing each one of them.

Best I've managed is to create a smart playlist in iTunes with the album set to the title of the course. Have the smart playlist update automatically so that any new postings from the course are included within the playlist. After that you should be able to play the playlist and have all the audio files play one after the other. Hope it helps!
