Getting audio cassettes onto ipod

I have a large amount of audio cassettes that I want to put onto my ipod. Can anyone advise how to do this please ??
Many Thanks
Davey

Transferring analog vinyl albums (or cassettes) to your PC is not a trivial effort.
You want to convert analog music to digital. Doesn't matter if it is vinyl records or cassettes, the concept is the same. It's a simple concept that it a bit tough in implementation (if you want to get it as right as possible).
Once you record (digitize) the original analog recording, the resulting digital file will be large. You can then convert it into an MP3 or AAC file after correcting it. Most folks I know who digitize their vinyl keep the recorded and corrected files on a separate External Hard Drive, as the work involved to get them is substantial. The best audio will be the originally recorded digital copy in a lossless format. This should be kept, or archived, as it can be burned to Audio CDs or imported (and re-imported, if needed) into iTunes in whatever lossy format you require.
1st: Hook up your stereo to your PC line input jack. I prefer using an analog-to-digital converter hooked into my USB port instead. This may reduce or eliminate a possible PC soundcard hum, mostly found on laptops and low-end PCs. Ederol makes the UA-1X converter that is fairly good.
2nd: Record the album using one of the various free or paid software programs out there. I use Audacity. It is free and can be found here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
3rd: You’ll need to record each side individually. After recording both sides, you’ll have two computer files. These need to be broken into their individual song tracks and error corrected (if desired).
4th: Assigning track name and other info may be possible using the CDDB, but it may not recognize the files. Manual entry may be the only method.
5th: You can then import them into iTunes as MP3, AAC or other format to play in your iPod. You may first want to burn them to CD in their full-digital form for backup. iTunes and the CDDB may recognize them better coming off a CD rather than your HD.
Do some Google searches. There are many sites that give overviews on how to convert your records to digital. Here are some from my files:

  • Can't get audio content off iPod onto MacBook iTunes

Just did some recording with the iPod using an attached microphone. When I open iTunes, I can see the directory with the audio recordings (in Voice Memos directory on the iPod) and even listen to them, but I can't get them to transfer to my music libary on my Macbook iTunes. I need those recordings to insert into iMovie. Try dragging then to iMovie and that didn't work either.

Shooting in the dark here, but a program like Senuti may help.
Or there is a manual method of moving content from iPod to computer described here.

  • How to get dvd movies onto ipod with windows

Okay, I have finally figured out how to get movies from DVD to ipod for windows users, and it's free, with no watermarks. It involves a 2-program process. First go and download Videora Ipod Converter at http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Then download DVDFab Decrypter at http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Now after you have installed these onto your computer:
    1. Insert the DVD into your disc drive.
    2. Open DVDFab and open the DVD folder, video_ts or whatever it happens to be
    3. Select your target destination for the files to be saved
    4. Click start to begin copying the DVD.
    5. Once everything is done being saved open videora ipod converter
    6. Go to setup and select the one click profile which size of video you would like and the output of the files
    7. Go to convert and select new transcode video, find your video file and select open
    8. Wait for the file to be completed transcoding
    9. Open itunes and select file, add file to library, find the file(s) and select okay
    10. Most of you should know what to do form here

For anyone who wants to get up and running, these are the settings I use for Videora.
After days of experimenting, I settled on the settings below which seem to give a good balance between filesize and quality. There will be a bit of blockiness in the dark shadows but if it's too much, just increase the 'bitrate'. Experiment with a short video, but make sure the video you experiment with is very high quality or you won't know what is or isn't down to your settings.
Again, don't use h264. Only Quicktime Pro has h264 nailed. You may be able to get some things to work in h264 but more likely, you'll be watching a movie and it will suddenly stop, or your iPod's hard disk will start munching away to a black screen. mpeg-4 works fine in Videora, always. No problems.

  • All songs deleted, and cant get them back onto ipod.

okay, so the other day my ipod all the sudden lost all of its 700 sum songs and all the music in my ipod library got deleted. but its still on my general computer. i have no idea how this happened.
i took my ipod [i pod touch] to best buy, where i bought it 6 months ago, and the geek squad person said that i need to update my software on the ipod and update itunes.geek squad updated my ipod while at best buy, but she told me that i need to update itunes on my computer and i should just be able to get my songs back onto my ipod. when i hooked my ipod up to my computer when i got home, i could not find where to update itunes. and nothing happened to my ipod.
i called bestbuy and re-told them the problem i was having. GS told me to first plug in my ipod to my computer [which i did] then sync the songs back onto my ipod.... that did no good.
then GS proceeded to tell me to just drag and drop the songs i want back onto my ipod, that are on my computer into my music library then re-sync my ipod..... once again this did not work. and my library is not locked so there is no reason as to why this should be happening. the GS person told me that he has never heard of anything like this and that he does not know what to do.
    any help?!?

OMG......this just happened to me...except my library is still there. I've tried re-installing itunes, restarting, & everything. It still doesn't recognize my ipod. I updated my iTunes/iPod to the newest version since it keeps asking me everyday and when I did it, it erased all of my songs & apps. I admit, my iPod was jailbroken, so I had apps on it that I'm afraid I won't be able to get back. I avoided updating my iPod because I was scared that it was gonna erase my jailbroken apps off.....but someone told me that it was best to always update regardless. I didn't think it was gonna erase my music though....it was completely full too That's not such a big deal since it's still on my computer. The main prob. is that I can't put it back on. I've tried going back to an older version and it keeps telling me that the newest version is installed and that I'm not allowed to do that. When I try to go to the iTunes tab on my ipod, it doesn't go...the same with the videos & music tabs. The only thing that works on my iPod is Safari & youtube.
HELP ME TOO.......PLEASE! I need my music. This is the 2nd iPod that's given me ****. I'm going to Creative Zen next if nothing can be done.

  • Need to reset 5G sometimes to get audio out from iPod connector

When I connect the 5G (and my Nano also), to one of my 3 docks, I sometimes have to do a reset to get line out audio out of the iPod connector. Anyone else see this behavior?

Good. Sometimes I get no output on my iTrip and have to reset my iPod, I didn't notice it getting better with the latest update - though I have now downgraded to V1.0 due to a few bugs in V1.1.

Yes, I have had identical behavior with mine twice when I hooked it up to my car charger with the audio out. Once reset it would work but then now I have more problems with mine. Still trying to figure out the glitches with this thing.

  • Sight impaired how to get audio books onto my new itunes libary

Hi all, i have a new laptop running windows 8 and my classic 160g has many audio books i would dearly love to put into my itunes.  Please can anyone tell me how to do this?  I am sigth impaired so the easy way please.  if ther is one.  Many thanks for your help.

    Hey there,
Ignore the message that comes up in iTunes. Hit "Cancel"
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
Hope this helps. Make sure if you have iTunes purchases, to authorize your new library at some point.

  • Getting rental films onto Ipod classic?

    hi,
Having successfully downloaded and watched a rental film on my Imac via I tunes (version 8.0.1 (12), i can not get the rental film to appear in the movies column, when syncing my Ipod.
When I go to the Movies tab on my connected Ipod, it just has the same old options of syncing all movies or unwatched etc. I had read guidance on the net saying this column should show two sub-columns saying purchased movies and rented movies, from there you can transfer the film/ sync it to the ipod.
Ipod is a 5th generation serial no. 8K7307BDV9R
Can anyone tell me how to get rented or bought films for that matter onto my Ipod?
    Thanks
    Tystie

A 5th Generation is not an iPod Classic, and the 5th Generation iPod cannot play rentals.

  • Here it is ! how to get AVI files onto ipod !!

Well yes I could make a tidy sum and sell this information but I am happy to contribute this greater knoweldge just knowing it will bring an end to a great deal of frustration as I was one of those frustrated people untill late this very afternoon. (only joking - although I was one of the frustrated ones ).
I did a google search for dvd decrypter, downloaded and installed and then went to the following link which gives you step by step instructions on how to transfer any video file and then transcode it using Videora which I did myself and can happily say that I have sucessfully transfered an AVI file (home movie) onto my ipod without any trouble at all.
sorry I havent gone into more detail but there are detailed steps on the instruction guide.
see link below and this will resolve all your problems.
P.S the only note i can add is that it would appear that dvd decypter can only take in a file from a dvd disk and not hard drive so you have to put your file onto disk first.
good luck I managed the entire process in around 1 hour that`s from finding the software in the first place to haveing the file on my ipod.

  • Loading MPEG audio stream onto ipod

I've downloaded the MP3 of the day from Spinner into iTunes. It plays fine in iTunes, but it won't load onto my iPod. Is there anything I can do to make it load?

I really should say store bought prices and not online because there may be a chance that I will have to return. Store bought prices are sometimes very cheap.
May stores have websites, Best Buy for example.
What's a netbook? I think you meant mini notebook.
No, I meant Netbook. Netbook is a term that generally refers to a very small notebook whose primary functions are web browsing, email, and other light tasks. They generally have built in WiFi and some of the, like the one I have, also has a built in cellular modem for which I pay a monthly access charge.
Anyways, thanks to all. This forum doesn't implement point awards for replies.
    Actually it does.
Now only I could find a button to say this thread is answered.

  • Can't get any songs onto ipod

after dropping my ipod, i keep getting a message from itunes saying Unable to update ipod, get the latest software - I have done that, to no avail.
The ipod is recognized by the computer, it turns on fine, shows the calendar etc - but has NO songs anymore. It's totally blank under Music.
I haven't tried erasing it with Disk Utility yet.
Is there anything else to try?
    Thanks.

I hate to do this, but since i have no idea how to start a post, I'm just trailing with an unrelated one (about the alarm.)
I tried hooking up my Ipod to speakers so I could make it do an alarm in the morning. I had no trouble getting a playlist to be the "sound", and I did turn the alarm ON, and I did get the time right.
I tried the alarm with the ipod first on, then off, then plugged in to a charger, then not, and for some reason the sound never seems to play. When I select "Beep" it makes that single soft beep that goes not through the speakers but the ipod itself. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, because I know the playlist works - I've played music from it (and on these speakers.) Any ideas?
    Thanks
