Getting back my old Safari config

I had recently a problem with my computer and i needed to re-install my O.S. I re-install Safari again and now my bookmarks are gone. I still have all the files from the old O.S. Could someone tell me where to get those configs?

Unfortunately you reinstalled OS X which means you've already overwritten the drive. You should have recovered your data before erasing the drive and reinstalling. Or better yet you should have been maintaining backups.
Basics of File Recovery
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Earlier back up is corrupted. Thank you in advance. No longer have my old iPod but getting new one.

If you had the hard drive from the original machine, a backup of the same, an iPod with the media, or a subscription to iTunes Match then there would have been hope, but alas no.

  • Getting back my old data after HD crash

I've just erased my mac hard drive becuase it was corrupt and re-installed OSX, I did the simple erase with the disc utility.
I know the data still exists on my hard drive and will just be over written with new data when it comes along.
Is there any piece of (free) software I can use to get back my old data?
    Thanks

  • After a manual failover , getting back the old primary to work

    Hi All,
i am testing some DG features
i did a manual failover by shutdown abort the primary and amek the physical standby as the new primary.
now suppose my clients work for 1 day on the new primary , and i want to get back the old primary to be a primary again
Do i need to create a new db from the new primary and switchover , any other shorter way to do it ?
    Thanks

    Hi..
I think that is the best method.Using RMAN create a new standby database on the previous primary server and the do a switchover to it.If the database is not too big you can go for schema level exp/imp or (expdp/impdp) depending on the oracle version you are using as you haven't mentioned it.But, then you will have to create a new standby database later and moreover, there could be loss of some data.

The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

  • How to get back my old account?

    Hello,
I have an iTunes account which I keep seperate from my apple.com discussion/purchasing account. When I made my discussion account, I was a member of .mac and my apple discussion log-in was my e-mail address and password. Once my .mac address expired, I no longer had access to the account for e-mail ect, but could always use that ID to log into the discussion forum as well as when I purchased a product or download from the apple.com store. I have even been able to change the password multiple times since then as I always forget it and never write it down - stupid, I know. I always had the reset e-mail sent to my everyday e-mail account. Now, the last time I used this account was in August and I recently wanted to get back in so that I could participate in a discussion, however, when putting in my apple id (My old .mac address) and the password I thought it was, it didn't work - so I tried to have it reset but I was told my options were to A - have it sent to the .mac account or B - answer the security question - I of course, chose option B and I am being told my answer isn't correct. I have tried everything I can think of, but no luck - it's asking my favorite music player and date of birth - should there be some sort of separation between the two that could be causing it to say it isn't right??
and last, is there ANY way I can get this account back? It is now locked for the next 8 hours due to too many attempts but if anyone can suggest something, i'd appreciate it.

    Hi ali,
yes, that is me! However, no luck. What happens is this:
Since I couldn't use my old log-in, I am using my iTunes store log-in for this discussion and if I want to get my apple id - it sends me the one I'm using now in my e-mail. The reason for this is because it is being sent to my current e-mail address (and only e-mail address). The discussion/apple.com store account was connected to my .mac account e-mail address which I haven't had in quite some time. I know the Apple ID that I always used to sign in and even after my .mac account ended I could still use it to log in for discussions and to purchase stuff from the store. So if I just want to change the password, I can't because i'm told I need access to the .mac account to do so. What I don't understand is how I retrieved that password the last time without having access to the .mac account - If I remember correctly, I had the info sent to my main e-mail account with no problem. But it appears that there is no connection between my old account and e-mail address anymore (and I think there used to be).
I hope that makes sense because it is confusing and hard to explain
Something tells me I won't be able to get back into that account ever again now. Thanks for your help and I hope you have another suggestion - if you have any questions that would help, please ask!!

  • Getting back the old camera roll view

Ok, so I don't have time for this BS. But apple obviously has no interest in taking any responsibility for their desicions, or in their users' views, and hence I am referred to this user forum.
How do I get back to the old camera roll view? I'm not interrested in having apple sort my photos for me, the way the latest update seems to have forced on me. I want to be able to see all my photos in one continuous stream, like before. How do I accomplish this?

There seems to be two of us in total, who are frustrated about this... I can´t believe it... This is the most obnoxious change apple has made in a loooong time. And there is NO way of contacting them directly about it. It seems that speaking to customers is simply beneath their dignity, unless you have purchased a new product very, very recently and still qualify for their precious support. They obviously don´t care even the least about the potential negative consequences for their customers of the updates they more or less impose on us. Do they have some kind of policy that goes something like this: "We are Apple, and we are so completely full of ourselves that it´s beyond comprehension. Do NOT bother us with questions about our recent software updates!! We don´t care about you enough for that!! We know that we have a solid customer base anyway, so if you are disappointed with us in any way, that´s just too bad for you. If you need help, even if a change we made without consulting you is the cause of that need for help - ask another Apple product user, NOT US!!! We have better things to do!!"I´m so infuriated right now that I´m about to hurtle my iPhone to kingdom come. WEAK, Apple!!! (Of coarse, no one at Apple is actually going to read this...I don´t even know why I´m bothering... )

  • I created a new itunes libruary. How do i get back my old one

How do I get back my previous libruary

Quit iTunes. Hold down your Shift key and try launching iTunes again. You should get the "Choose Library / Change Library" dialog again. Click Choose Library and browse to the location of the original library file. The default locations are:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    Windows 7: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
Open the library file. Can you see your original library now?

Hi I was working on my computer and needed to reboot.  When my Safari came back up the arrangement on the screen was completely different.  The overall layout was different and I lost a few of my bookmarks in the process.  Is there anyway to get it back to my old screen layout?

    HI James...
If you are running v10.7 Lion, try disabling the "resume" feature...
    Open System Preferences > General
Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    Restart your Mac.
If you aren't running v10.7 Lion, which Mac OS X is installed on your Mac?

  • Firefox question: How do I get back my old menus?!

I'm using the Edge GTK theme, and I decided today to install a Firefox theme to complement it - Aaron Spuler's Smoke theme. I added lines to userChrome.css to get the native GTK look for the tabs and the location and search bars... But my menus still look like plain, themeless menus instead of Edge menus! What do I add to userChrome.css to get my old menus back?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Current Firefox versions use the default search engine (pref: browser.search.defaultenginename) to set the search engine that is used on the about:home page.
Check the <b>browser.search.defaultenginename</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to the default value Google.
    *browser.search.defaultenginename
    Currently selected search engine:

  • How do I get back the old songs that were wiped out on my Ipod, when the new songs were downloaded?

I recently had to have everything on my harddrive moved to an external harddrive by the Geek Squad. Subsequent to that, I purchased six new songs from Itunes, and downloaded them to my Ipod. When I did that, all 126 of my old songs were wiped out. However, Itunes still shows all of the old, as well as the new songs. How can I access the "older" songs so that I can then add them back to the newer songs?

    Hey LiLi521,
I found a few articles that can help you out. Depending on what version of iTunes you're using, check out either:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12313
    or for older versions:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1351
You can set up your iPod for automatic or manual syncing, and depending on which option you choose the process will be different. Either route you choose, by following those directions you should be able to get both your older songs and the newly purchased ones onto your iPod.
    Hope this helps,
    David
