Getting blank frames between clips

I have various clips on the timeline snapped right up against each other yet I'm still gettting a black frame between adjacent clips. There's no keyframes or opacity adjsutments on any of the clips so I don't know what's causing this.
This clips themselves are edited so that there's nothing extra on the beginning or end of them that would cause this issue. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ray

Just a thought ... I had something similar happened when I did not have snapping enabled but positioned a clip perfectly on the end of a preceding clip.  I thought everything would be fine, but it was not.  My clue was that a dissolve was not taking when I tried to apply it.  I looked closely, but the two clips seemed perfectly matched.  Then I tried something new ... After making sure snapping was enabled, I then moved the clip to the right enough to let the snapping bring it back together with the preceding clip.  To my surprise it solved the problem for me. The dissolve then "took".   I really don't like having to find "work-arounds" for things like this, but some bugs on little things like this can be expected on a 1.0 release.  In the meantime, overall, I am very happy with X and am getting a lot of projects done much faster than before.  Hope this helps.

  • Why do I often get blank frames while acquiring images using external trigger under Windows 7?

I'm using Windows 7, the latest LabVIEW and IMAQdx right now. The program was developed based on the example provided by LabVIEW. Everything ran well on Windows XP using internal trigger or external trigger. But when I wanted to run the program on a desktop with Win 7, I just cannot get the images continuously using the external trigger. Although I can get the images, the blank frames showed up very often. When I chose the internal trigger, there was no problem.
Once I thought there might be something wrong with my program. But I tried the LabVIEW example to select the internal trigger mode and external trigger mode, it had the same problem.
Is there anyone could give me some suggestions to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,
The images are either "all blank" or "all good".
The hardware setup is exactly the same.
The blank images are not acquired periodically.
Similar results were also seen when using MAX to control the camera.
We found a solution to this problem. But we don't know how to explain it. When we were using the 5-Hz external trigger, we thought the video mode would not affect the image acquisition and therefore we left the video mode option as default (15 fps). But when we change the video mode to 7.5 fps or 30 fps, the problem disappeared. So now if we want to get rid of the blank frames while using the external trigger, we just need to choose the video mode other than 15 fps. Interestingly, when we switch back to the XP system, the camera also acquried inconsistent blank frames if we set the video mode at 15 fps.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Getting blank space after paragraph in RTF template

    Hi there,
Thanks so much for all your help for your help.
I am running into one issue in RTF template, wanted to share with you to get any input on this. I have paragraph and Idid put in table at the top and there is xml tag that gives names after that paragraph. but I get blank spaces after paragraph and it shows names from that xml tag.
I tried to remove spaces by deleting between pargraph and xml tag<name> , still i get blank page between paragraph text and names.
Can anyone help me or point me to get it resolved that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Varma for your prompt response and your time on this. I am still trying to get any other options to get this done as that is the requirement and with that blank page looks not fully satisfied for users and am trying any other ways to do implement this..
That's the reason I thought of putting this post again to get more inputs that may have.
Can anyone put some light onthis.
    Thanks a lot..

  • Audio drops with the 2 gig file limit size between clips

Videoing with a Sony HXR-NX5U, the camera creates a 2 gig file size limit then importing the clips into Premiere Pro CS6. There is a few frames between clips where the audio drops and there is also s very slight drop in the video, this happens only between longer clips. I saw some reference to this in the forum a while back but no answer. Any indeas!!

Simple fix - copy entire contents of SD card to new folder on hard drive, all folder intact. Then in Premiere, import using "Media Browser" rather than "File > Import". With Media Browser, the spanned clips will be properly handled, importing as a single, long clip with no glitches.

  • Getting Rid Of A Gap Between Clips In The Timeline

A gap has appeared between clips in my timeline. I can delete, re-organise the clips but the gap remains. How can I remove this please ?
    (and how can it happen?)
    Ron

Sometimes I get what seems to be a gap but it's actually a glitch in the way the clip has renedered for FC.  The original media is always fine so I trash the rendered clips (which is a menu command) and all is well.  Best of luck!

  • Blank image between photo transitions

I am using the overlap type of transition between photos and for some reason I am getting a sudden blank image prior to each of the transition effects. I have done this before without any problems, I do not know why I have this problem now. Each photo duration is 10 seconds and the transition is 2 seconds. I have varied the duration of both the photo and the transition (up and down), but it has not helped. I will appreciate any help. I am using a MacBook with OS 10.4.8 and iMovie 6.0.3(267.2)

Please bear with me, remedina. Can I guess at a solution? I've never personally seen this problem, but it's been reported here from time to time. I don't think the cause has been found, nor a good solution.
(To find other topics about it, search this forum for "Transition and black and frame", without the quotes. Ignore topics discussing black frames in the preview when importing images. Different problem.)
For the record, is the "blank" frame black or white?
My guess is iMovie is getting the math wrong while building the transition. Perhaps it's building a transition clip that is 99 frames long but it thinks it's 100 frames long. The result: a blank frame. Or it plays the clip AFTER/BEFORE the transition incorrectly, playing a frame that is "empty".
Either way, playback is "missing" one frame. Either the transition itself is flawed or the playback of the clip that follows/precedes it is flawed.
(Remember, iMovie modifies the playback of the original clip(s) too when you add the transition, at least for some transitions. If the new description of those clips is wrong, playback of those clips will be flawed.)
To help iMovie get the math right while building the transition, I'd try removing one frame from the clip that FOLLOWS the planned transition. THEN add the transition.
If that doesn't work, try removing one frame from the PRECEDING clip before adding the transition.
I don't recall anyone reporting exactly where the flawed frame resides. Is the flawed frame in the transition clip? If so, is it the last frame of the transition? Or is it the first frame of the clip that follows the transition? Or the last frame of the clip that precedes the transition? Somewhere else?
You should be able to tell by selecting the transition clip and using the right/left arrowkeys to play through the transition. If you see a flawed frame it's in the transition clip. If, on the other hand, you DON'T see a flawed frame but see it only when you select and play the clip following it, then the transition is okay but the error is in playing the following clip. Same with the preceding clip.
Either way, deleting one frame from the clip AFTER the planned transition or BEFORE it may solve the problem. It changes the math. It changes any rounding calculation, for example. No promises, but it's worth a try.
One other idea: the math error may be affected by whether or not the Ken Burns checkbox was on when you imported the image. iMovie describes the imported photo two different ways, depending on whether or not the checkbox was on. If you strike out above, you might try re-importing the image(s) using the opposite checkbox setting.
Please let us know what you discover. Good luck.

  • Remove blank frame in swf file?

Hi. I made a simple swf file in flash lite 1.1 with clock. But when i open it after publishing, it has that ''blank frame'', which is refreshing constantly and flikrers between my image and white background. Does anyone know how to remove it, and/or how to insert my image into the stage without being that blank frame visible? I use macromedia flash 8... In case someone wants to look at it, heres the code i used to create the clock, and my swf:

Ok, i'll try to explain. When you open Macromedia Flash, it automatically creates white stage/document. But i dont need it, so i import my own image to the stage, then i make that clock and publish swf file. Then when i open swf it blinks between white frame and my image. So im pretty sure this white frame is that white stage, created at the beginning. I just dont know how to get rid of that whit stage before i open my image, or maybe i just import my image in the wrong way, i dont know. And, no, it doesnt affect the clock, its working fine, except that it never shows the right font (if i create clock with lets say Verdana, when i open swf its always Arial). About code, i found tutorial by google, that tutorial gives me that code. I have no idea how its made and whats wrong with it, im just a beginner and trying to learn all that stuff. I attached swf in my first post. Thank You.

  • Playhead will no longer position itself in between clips in Final Cut Pro X timeline

I have been using Final Cut Pro X and it used to position the playhead in between clips with ease so I could drag down the audio and position it at the exact placement of playhead where I wanted it at the beginning of a new clip. However, now the playhead is not going to the beginning and end of clips, or inbetween clips and when I drag down the audio it won't go exact where the playhead is. I feel like it must have something to do with the settings, I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?

The up/down arrow keys jump to Edit Points.  There should be no space between clips, so getting "inbetween" clips is not technically acurate.  You're either on the first frame fo the incoming clip, or the last frame of the outgoign clip.  First frame of the incoming clip is what  you want.
Yes, be sure snapping is on, and use the up/down arrow keys.

  • Suppressed Header but in the same place getting blanks.

I have Suppressed Headers which was printing in all pages but in the same place/location, Iam getting blank space. Is there any other way other than using anchors to avoid this space problem.

it works even inside fields are fixed width. Thankyou fs
I have one more problem. My report has 2layouts based on parameter Iam printing each one on to the screen.
First layout is working fine and when I try to run the second layout which is below the first one ,and after grand total section(which is separate frame).
On the screen(apps output) Iam getting a page break symbol and all the column headers are printed once without data(blank page). Then from second page onwards its working fine. But the same pagebreak is appearing in between all the pages. How to over come this? please help me.

  • New issue with blank frame at end of coverted .avi

Here is the project (scenario details):
I have 2 .swf files. Both are 30 fps. Call them "chapter1" and "chapter2". Frame count is 3600 and 9600 respectfully. The last frame of "chapter1" contains the same image as the first frame of "chapter2" - basically I'm splitting up an overall animation so I can easier manage two Flash documents versus one large document. I used SoThink SWF Converter to create 2 .avi files. When I place these .avi files back to back on the same timeline in Encore, both .avi files have an extra blank frame at the end. This causes a black frame flicker between the end of "chapter1" and the beginning of "chapter2". Even if I drag the end of the .avi on the timeline to the left (as to trim the video track), I still see a black, empty frame at the end. I don't think the problem is with SoThink because I've even imported these .avi files into Sony Vegas and zoomed in all the way to the end of each video track and the very last frame of both files is as it should be. This leads me to believe the issue is with Encore somewhere. Also, initially the problem in Encore was the audio tracks were extending a few frames beyond the video track thus causing the back to back .avi files to align according to the audio track (which was leaving a few blank frames from the video track). I have included some screen shots of the last 3 frames of "chapter1" and the first frame of "chapter2". Hopefully the images below appear in progression as I attached them. Watch the timeline indicator. One frame before the end of "chapter1" is black. I've run out of troubleshooting ideas. I can't imagine this would have anything to do with the .swf being 30 fps and the Encore timeline being DV NTSC 29.97 fps.

Stan - thanks for the reply...
I don't recall what was covered when you posted the similar question earlier:
Not much more than me explaining the flicker between 2 .avi files, and the only response was someone telling me to just have one .swf file. I'm not sure why some people's response is to "just do it a different way" instead of trying to figure out what is causing the issue.
What does mediainfo or gspot show about the avis?
I'm not sure which information you need, but I will attach what I was able to get out of the problematic .avi. Let me know if you need different information. This was the first time I used MediaInfo.
Without knowing what to look for, I did notice a couple of lines that caught my eye. Line 25 mentions 30 fps frame rate (which I imagine is this .avi). Line 26 mentions 25 fps as the original fps (which makes me wonder if SoThink misread the .swf file as 25 fps instead of 30 fps) - not sure if I'm reading this right. Also, lines 45 & 52 mention a 26ms delay in audio (relative to video). Could that be why the audio track in Encore extends a couple of frames beyond the video track? Either way, Vegas is STILL showing the last frame as filled with the image. What does this report tell you? Maybe I should find a different way to export .swf to video. Is there anything else out there I might try (to see if the problem is SoThink)? Just looked at the .avi in PremierePro. The last frame looks fine. SoThink won't let me convert .avi to 29.97 fps.
Could the fact I have a 30 fps .avi placed into a 29.97 fps project timeline, could this be the issue? I tested another .avi (from a movie), and the last frame appears correctly in Encore. Now this looks as if the issue is back to SoThink's conversion to 30 fps. I really should find a different .swf to video converter and retest. Again, thanks for any help (from anyone) in this and suggesting alternative video converters.
*added - the .swf files contain tweened and frame by frame animation along with a streamed audio layer, but even when I completely remove the audio layer, the resulting .avi still shows up as a blank frame at the end. I thought at one point the fact I had a streaming layer of audio might have been forcing the frames in Flash to skip around, but this wasn't the case.

  • Pause between clips after rendering

I have a sequence with several video clips. I shot this entirely with a Canon 5DMarkII so the video format is H.264 mov.
Playback in the canvas/timeline is great until I render. Once I render- either the entire sequence or just a single transition- the playback pauses/stutters between clips. The stutter happens anywhere on the timeline, not isolated to the transition. Intra-clip playback is great, just when it gets to the end of the clip, it hiccups before moving to the next one.
If I delete the render files, playback goes back to normal.
I am editing on a new macbook pro, with an external firewire800 drive as scratch disk. I originally created the project on a new iMac with the same firewire drive and never had this problem. Its just since I have moved to my laptop.
Adjusting RT settings does not seem to correct this problem. Either does moving scratch disk locally or to another drive.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem using the canon 5d Mark 2 with final cut... it's really odd... can't put a finger on the problem... i checked the format of the sequence, along with the video clip... they both match... even the playback in the canvas i can notice the pause... i tried exporting a little portion of it just to preview, and the playback was smoother, but still noticed the pause between cuts...
another thing i noticed was that certain clips there was no pause... could it be a frame rate issue? perhaps it's trying to fill in the frames in between... i don't know... just a guess... i would still like to know how to remedy this problem tho... so let me know your findings... i'll do the same...

  • MTS Files appear to skip frames at clip transitions?

My Canon Vixia HF S200 creates multiple sequentially numberd MTS files for long sequences.
Snapping them together in Premier Pro CS5 yields a 'jump' between clips, as if frames were missing.
Now, sombody on another forum insisted that there were no frames missing from the MTS files, and that re-muxing them would prove it.  So I did download 'tsMuxer' a free muxer, and combined a few into a single m2ts file and indeed the 'jump' vanished at the point where the previous 2 would have joined!
So....  Any ideas?  Some setting?  Frame rate?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    That worked, thanks!
So it appears that the camera is not actually creating individual complete MTS files with all the embedded structures, but they are really just chunks of one larger MTS object, broken up to stay under the 2 GB limit of some file systems?  Thus the media browser and other tools that know this combine them correctly?
Whereas trying to look at them as individual complete MTS files must confuse some software, I'm guessing that Premiere, and other viewers that I played with, seem to have to skip some stuff in later files (not the first) to try and get in sync with the data stream or something?
Just wondering how that is really working under the covers...

  • How to remove a gap between clips

I have all my clips loaded into my timeline.
While reviewing the final project, I noticed the screen goes dark briefly between 2 clips near the beginning.
I zoomed in and it looks like when I originally loaded the second clip, it didn't snap-to the previous clip, leaving a blank space between them.
I thought I could ripple delete the blank gap, which I would prefer, because there are a lot of clips before and after the gap in the sequence and I don't want to have to manually move them all and risk creating new gaps. But ripple delete is always grayed out in the Edit menu.
So I thought maybe something has to be there to delete, so I created a color matte to put in there, but ripple delete is still grayed out.
I tried to Google an answer, but I only found methods for ripple deleting multiple gaps (that's where I got the idea of using a color matte), or deleting gaps in conversation from a video clip (as opposed to blank gaps in the timeline).
    What am I doing wrong?

Are you zoomed in all the way down to frame level? Use the + key to zoom into the area you want to work on. You should certainly be able to mark and extract as little as one frame
EDIT - you and I posted at the same time earlier and I did not see you post about the +1 and -1 situation, which has me confused. Can you perhaps post a screen shot of the area in question so I can understand what the issue is? Perhaps instead of removing the video gap, you could just duplicated one frame of adjacent video, since it seems that the audio needs to remain?
    Thanks
    Jeff

  • Making compound clip adds unwanted black between clips

I have a 2 minute psa that was shot in HD on the NX5 and edited on FCPX. I needed to put it together with other PSAs to make a longer show so I selected all the clips on the timeline and made a ‘compound clip’. The compound clip looks like one clip on the timeline and it should be able to be copied to another timeline. When I watched it back though, FCPX had introduced flash frames of black in between all of the cuts on the timeline, throwing all of the titles out of whack as well. Why did this happen?
    1.  Original Storyline
    2.  Original storyline made into a compound clip.
    3.  When I play it back I get flash frames in-between each clip so i checked the compound clip and found that it introduced black between each clip.

I ran into this problem too and found a quick solution that may work for anyone who encounters this bug.
THE PROBLEM: In one of my Projects, when creating a compound clip of the entire Project (so that I could apply Project-wide color and audio correction), gaps were inexplicably added to certain cuts. I don't know why. I first tried to work around this by exporting a Master File, but this also created the same gaps. Ugh.
THE SOLUTION: Duplicate your Project and in the duplicate, select all and create a compound clip. After creating the compound clip, double-click the compound clip in the Event Browser. This will open the compound clip, with all its bits and pieces exposed, in the Timeline. Go to the bottom-left corner of the Timeline and click the little button there to open the Timeline Index. Do a search for "gap". Select all the results in the list and press the delete key.
NOTE: Don't forget to duplicate your original Project (before creating a compound clip with the duplicate) so that you have it as a reference and a backup in case something goes wrong. I have not carefully analyzed this glitch and am not 100% sure this workaround is bulletproof. I also am not sure what is causing the OP's titles to be "thrown out of whack" as I didn't have that particular issue, so this "fix" may not actually fix that part of the problem.

  • Transition blank frame issues

I just (today) upgraded to FCPX. I've been working on a wedding video (my own, to be precise) and I am basically enjoying it (thr program, and the video).
    BUT!
I have added Several transitions during the movie, but there is one edit that has a Cross Dissolve transition, and I realized, after buring it to a DVD, that there is a single blank frame at the end of the effect (the cursor is sitting on the right edge of the grey box for the effect). I went back and stepped through the transition in question, and it is there. If I delete the transition, I can step through all the frames, and there are no blank frames. So I put in several different kinds of transitions, and they all do it.
I also noticed when stepping through the effect, that the single frame is actually dark green (it puts a single green dot in the vectorscope).
Has anyone experienced this, and is there a work  around? I need a transition here, bcause it would be a jarring transition without it (picture empty courtyard hard cut to courtyard with people, from a different angle.

Have occasionally had a similar problem. Finally found a single "ghost" frame hiding between the two clips I was trying to transition. Difficult to see - you have to zoom way, way in. Don't know where the "ghost" frame came from or how it got there but deleting it solves the problem.
