Both Chrome and Finder seemed to freeze, so I restarted the computer. When the restart finished, I was in recovery mode. How do I get back to my regular login screen?
It starts up and asks for a language. After English, it goes to the OS X Utilities screen. I have gone to disk utility and verified the disks. They both say they are okay. If I click repair, it comes back with an error saying "Live file system repair is not supported." I just want my computer back to normal! Please help! I am still in Mavericks if it matters.

Do you have a backup? If so, in the Recovery Partition go to Disk Utility/Erase, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled), click Option GUID, and erase the disk. Then re-install the OS. Reboot and use Setup Assistant to recover your data.

  • In ESS we are getting SAP GUI screens instead of web screens??

    Hi,
How the problem has come up---
We have transferred the production data and OS into test server and changed the test server IP address to production IP address after shutting down the production server.
Which means that now ITS/ESS will be pointing to the new copied server. After this when this new server was shutdown and old production was started the ESS/ITS points back to the original production server.
Now the problem is that When we execute any transaction from ESS we are getting SAP GUI screen instead of Web screen.
Can somebody tell me why this is happening.
Any pointers to this will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Varun

First off...what version are you on (backend)? Also, how did you "switch" your ITS instance?A little more info and we will solve this for ya. =)

  • Why do I get sent to the User Login screen to enter my password after sleep?

    Hi,
On OSX Lion, 10.7.4. I recently had to reinstall the OS on a new hard drive in my iMac and now have an issue with it that I never had before.
After prolonged periods of sleep (I haven't determined what the minimum length is before this will happen), when I come to wake the computer it shows me the User Login screen. Under my user icon is an orange checkmark, presumably to show that I am the user logged in. Otherwise it is exactly the same as the User Login screen one gets when the computer boots up. I select my user icon and enter my password and the computer unlocks.
I haven't got this set up anywhere, that I know of. I don't have the 'Security & Privacy - Require password for sleep and screen saver' option checked, never have. If I do turn that on just to check, it's a very different password screen, a little popup window in the centre of the dimmed screen.
How do I turn this feature off?
    Thanks,
    Owen

Sounds like you may have deleted something you shouldn't have. Boot to an OS X DVD or a bootable backup, and using Disk Utility, do a repair disk, and while there repair permissions. Disconnect any peripherals, and reboot. If you get the same startup behavior, do a safe boot, by holding the shift key down when booting. If that works, try a normal boot. If neither step helps, you may need to relaod your operating system.

  • Screen freezes at login screen

My mac froze and so I rebooted it manually with the power button.
It runs ok until the login screen pops up. The beach ball never stops spinning . I also notice that there were weird lines in the background.
I repaired the disk under safe mode but it doesn't help ...
I did get messages saying that my start up disk is almost full before but not sure if it's related...
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
    Many thanks....

Try booting from the Snow Leopard DVD or disk 1 that came with the computer and run Disk Utility/Repair Disk and Repair permissions.
    Do you have a backup?

  • Can't get rid of banner on Login Screen

This is my personal computer, I downloaded some software from my university called KeyAccess and now I have the universities name stuck on the log in screen. So far I have uninstalled the KeyAccess program, including any Daemon files associated as well as plist. I also had JAMF software and ran this command to remove it. sudo jamf -removeFramework. I was able to rid myself of the Alertus software as well. How could I find out what is causing this banner to be stuck on my screen??

Back up all data before proceeding.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
If you want no text in the login window, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist LoginwindowText
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.
If you want text, enter the command below in the same way. Replace "YourMessageHere" with whatever you want the screen to show.
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist LoginwindowText YourMessageHere

  • Black screen instead of login window

    Hello.
    I have a problem when booting a PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I turn it on, see the grey screen, see the Apple logo, see the loading icon, see (for a fraction of second) the blue screen and then....black screen and nothing more.
I have made a few tests:
    - safe boot/mode/login
    - verbose mode, no remarkable errors
    - single user mode (fsck, renaming com.apple.loginwindow.plist, even renaming /Library/Preferences, ...)
    but with no success.
    Does anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks.

System restored from a Time Machine backup, I found no other way.

  • How do I get rid of "Other" on login screen?

About a year ago I sent my MacBook in for an AppleCare repair and when it came back it had a new user login named "Other…"
Here is a pic to clarify:
I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of it, but nothing has worked. It is not listed under Users or anywhere else that I can find. System Preferences does not have any mention of it.
It is bugging me. Any ideas?
P.S. Unfortunately the AppleCare term has expired so that is not an option.

Contact AppleCare and determine what password they used to enable the root account and disable it. Details in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528

  • Garbage on the screen instead of setup screen

    Hi
My son's wrt54g2 v1.5 linksys router was working fine.  WPA2 mode was setup also, working correctly, until he came home one night and wasn't able to use wifi.  Computers, phones etc., that were setup with the security code could not logon.
I had him try to use his browser and connect using 192.168.1.1, but, all that came up with was a screen full of garbled characters instead of the setup screen.
Next I had him try to reset the router, holding in the reset button for 30 seconds, then coldbooting the router.  Unfortunately, the same garbled character screen reappeared.  Fortunately, it did reset the security, so he can use the router without security.
We really don't want to leave the router running without WPA2, and, would like to once again access the routers setup, so, If someone has any ideas, I'd appreciate suggestions.  We've already reset the router 4 times, and, it works connecting to the internet fine, we just can't get into the routers firmware to reset passwords or setup WPA2.  Tried connecting using both Firefox and Chrome, his laptop uses Windows, mine Linux.  Tried accessing using wifi and using ethernet.  Did I cover it all?
    Thanks in advance
    Tom

Thanks again for responding.  And no, there are no firewalls on the computers I used for testing.  We use the router as our firewall.  Today, I used my "siduction" install (Debian Sid) to see if I could come up with anything interesting, which needless to say, I didn't.  I'm one of the Core members of "siduction", and, we don't install a firewall by default.  It's up to the user to install it if they deem it necessary.  I also use a Linksys E2500 for my own home network, and the same laptop worked perfectly fine bringing up my router's setup screen before I used it to test my son's router.  I also use Fedora, which comes with an automatic firewall, and, that install also had no trouble with the setup screen.  I also have openSUSE on my network, along with a few Windows dual boot laptops.  All of my machines bring up my 192.168.1.1 without incident.
Is there anyway to test the RAM and/or firmware without being able to access the linksys using 192.168.1.1?  I'm starting to think that the router is just suffering from old age and there might be a hardware problem.  Its also possible that he might have had a power line drop or surge that might have affected the router.  While I have all my electronics plugged in to UPS's, he had his router plugged directly in to the outlet.
It's funny, everything the router is supposed to do, it is doing well.  It's supplying IP addresses, accepting multiple wifi logins, and asking for a password to enter setup.  It just won't show me the setup screen.

  • "more info" in Get Info showing "--" instead of actual infos for newer videos and images

I've just noticed that when I click on "Get Info" on my newer pictures and videos, the "more info" section is now showing "--" instead of the dimensions of the images and videos. However when I go to my older files, the info is showing. Also if I search any of the newer files (those with the missing info) in Spotlight, it doesn't show up.  I've done some research and some people suggest reindexing Spotlight, but that never worked for me. In fact, even if I exclude a folder in my Privacy list, it's still showing as a result when I search them. I'm sure this is a problem with Spotlight as it stores the dimensions info, but since reindexing it is not a solution, can it be solved in some other way?

It takes time on newer things, but might have to be opened first or something.
If you want, you can clear the caches with OnyX (#12) and that would rebuild and repair the entire sub-system.

    Yes do this.
In meantime you can try BIOS recovery, there is a good chance to recover since BIOS is really corrupted and damaged and recovery can kick off.
Download the BIOS for your notebook from MSI web: http://msi.com/service/download/bios-8539.html
Extract it, then rename A1651IMS.114 to A1651IMS.ROM
Then copy the A1651IMS.ROM to diskette and place it to the USB Floppy and connect the USB floppy with corespond diskette inside which contain A1651IMS.ROM to the an free USB port to the notebook.
Remove the notebook battery and leave only AC Power cord connected.
Then turn it on,[with battery disconnected and USB FDD attached with diskette inside] and leave it in that way for a 10 minutes.
If process is successfully, the notebook should bring back to the live itself after 10 minutes.
