Getting "Cannot Send Mail - One of the Recipient  Addresses was Invalid"

Mail was working fine under version 1. Upgraded my original iPhone to version 2 and couldn't send emails. Get "CANNOT SEND MAIL. ONE OF THE RECIPIENT ADDRESSES WAS INVALID. OK" message whenever I attempt to respond to an incoming email or when sending a new email. Sometimes "Sending" progress bar goes all the way to the end, but I still get this error message and mail is NOT sent. This is still the case after I upgraded to 2.02 HELP!

I have since removed the email account and added it again. I tried this several times and came to the realization that the Apple iPhone software was not setting the account up properly. I saved the account even though I was warned by the software that it was not working properly. I then went ahead and carefully edited all the settings and made sure that they matched EXACTLY with those in MS Outlook. I also set Authentication to Password on both incoming at outgoing servers.
I finally got it working. What a pain!!

  • "One of the recipient addresses was invalid...

I can send a new email, but when I try to reply to any email, I get this error message and the email just sits in the outbox.

I get this same message even with new mails. And the recipient addresses are all valid. This suddenly started to happen after a long time of everything working just fine.
Would love to find an answer to this problem.

  • Major mail problem: "One or more recipient address was invalid"

    Hello,
I had my iPhone 3G for 2 weeks now. I have been experiencing some major e-mail problems - basically, I cannot send e-mails to anyone except myself. When I type in my address (the same one that I send an e-mail from) it all goes well. When I type any other valid one, it does not get through. I keep on getting a pop-up message "Cannot send mail: One or more recipient address was invalid" - even though the addresses *are, actually, valid*.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Happens both with usual e-mails and with pic forwarding. Many thanks for your help.
    Best,
    Dynamitri

I'm using a POP account. Still - I can send to myself, can't send anywhere else.
Might try deleting the account and then configuring it again. Hope it helps.
And yeah, I have the latest software.
    Best,
    D.

  • Cannot Send Mail One of the Recipients Email Addresses is Invalid

Cannot Send Mail One of the Recipients Email Addresses is Invalid
This is the error message I keep getting on outgoing mail. Incoming mail works fine. Does anyone have any suggestions to try?

You mean you can receive and send messages when you are connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider as the internet connection for your wireless network at home, but you are unable to send messages with this account when connected to AT&T's cellular network?
If so, this leans toward your email account being provided by your internet service provider.
Most internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of the ISP's network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated. Not many ISPs provide an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide their customers.
You can do one of two things. The iPhone includes AT&T's SMTP server to select as the SMTP server to use for this email account when you are connected to AT&T's cellular network, but you probably won't be able to use AT&T's SMTP server to send with the account when connected to your wi-fi network at home.
Or you can switch to using an email account that provides an authenticated SMTP server. A Gmail account is one, and a MobileMe account is another.

  • One of the recipient addresses is invalid?

every time that i open mail on my iphone it tells me that one of the recipient addresses is invalid. ????
there is a message being sent how do i get to it to alliviate the problem?

First off, check your sent for messages being sent out. Delete it if you can, and the message should stop appearing when you first open Mail.
Next, I'm assuming this started happening after the 2.0 update? This seems to be the case for this issue. I have ran into this twice now and both were after the 2.0 update.
Assuming you updated, try to remember if you had to reenter your email information manually on the iPhone again. If you did not, then it may have been backed up and re-synced to your iPhone automatically. With the current bugs, it'll be best to set up the account manually.
+NOTE: Steps 1-4 may not be necessary. You may try step 5 first and if it doesn't work, perform the entire process.+
    The fix I found:
*1. Delete the account on the iPhone.*
Before doing this, be sure you know your settings to recreate this account. If it is one of the prebuilt email addresses (Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, MobileMe, etc), the account settings won't be an issue. If you are using a POP or IMAP account other than the ones built in, contact your email provider for account settings, or, alternatively, look in the Mail Settings on the iPhone before you delete it or online. Some settings include incoming and outgoing server host names, port numbers, whether SSL is used, and authentication type. Don't forget your username and password too!
This may help some of you.
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/mailhelper/
    *2. Once deleted, recreate account*
Enter Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calender > Add Account
*3. Once created, test to see if you receive mail.*
If not and you did before deleting the account, look into your settings, something may have been missed
If it works, continue to the next step.
*4. Check to see if issue still exists.*
Compose a new message AND reply to one
If it works, great. If not continue on.
*5. Enter your Username and Password for your OUTGOING MAIL SERVER*
This is the step that fixed the issue both times when I ran into them.
Go into Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendar > +Your Account+ > Tap the Outgoing (or SMTP) Server > Tap Primary Server > Enter Your Username and Password in the Optional fields.
Username is usually the first part of your email address (everything before the @) or it can also be your entire email address. Password is the one you'd use to log into its webmail.
Usually, these "optional" fields are truly optional. In this case, having them filled in fixed the issue.
Actually, fixed it twice. Lastly, a hard reset (hold home and power button until screen goes completely off, ignore slide to power off) and a restore are other two options at the end.
    Hope this helps you folks.
    Good Luck,
    Tony

  • "Cannot Send Mail" App has the smtp address wrong.

After upgrading my 3GS Iphone to OS 5.0.1, I have been an error msg when trying to send mail:
"Cannot Send Mail" - No password provided for [email protected]
The account is setup properly in settings as "SMTP.Comcast.net"
I have deleted the account and set it up again several times. No luck!
Does anyone else see this error?
    Any help?

Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>your account>Outgoing mail Server SMTP>Primary Server then turn Server ON and fill in both User Name +Password under Outgoing Mail Server.

  • Can't send mail due to "One of the recipient addresses was incorrect" error

I have my iPhone set up with two mail accounts: my personal Yahoo account and my work e-mail account ([email protected], for example). I can send/receive email fine with my personal account, but for my work account, I cannot send any mail to any email addresses that are not people at my work with the same domain name (I can send to [email protected], but not [email protected]).
I thought the problem had to be with my settings, but I compared my settings on the iPhone with how I have my work email set up in Thunderbird and even Apple Mail. They're the same! So I'm at a loss. Any ideas?
    Thanks!!

More than likely, yes, but since a MobileMe account is accessed as an IMAP account, when accessing the account with an email client you have the option to store messages on the server or locally on the hard drive or device. If your account has been compromised and someone is accessing the account with an email client on their computer, they could choose not to store the sent messages on the server so you wouldn't see them.

  • Since upgrading my ipad and iphone software i am receiving an error message when sending emails, saying that the email address was rejected by the server.

    Hi,
Since upgrading my ipad and iphone software i am receiving an error message when sending emails, saying that the email address was rejected by the server.
Please advise if this is a known problem, and what is the fix.
    Many thanks
    Mark

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

  • Get Cannot Send Mail Message

Every time I try to send an email from my IPhone I get the following message. "The server rejected one of the recipient's addresses. The message has been placed in your Outbox.". Does anyone know what the cause of this error is? I have verified the email addresses and they are correct. I have no problem receiving and reading email.
    Thank you.

This means the outgoing mail server for the email account is being blocked.
Who is the email account provider for the email account?
Most if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated, and AT&T's cellular network is no different in this regard. This restriction is part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client and both email accounts have an authenticated SMTP server. I have a wireless network at home, and both email accounts are not provided by my internet service provider at home. I have no problems sending with either account regardless the internet service provider being used for my internet connection at the time - my wireless network at home, various other wi-fi networks that I have access to with different internet service providers, and when connected to AT&T's cellular network.

  • Having problems in sending email..always saved in outbox and cannot send mail bcoz of the server failed

Having problems in sending email..always saved in outbox and cannot send bcoz of server failed

The email server you are using to send mail through requires the password, if any is required it needs to be set in the location that I pointed out in the earlier post.
It is usually the same password you use for receiving emails.
I don't use either Facebook or Twitter so I am not sure how to help with those.

  • When using Mail and selecting the recipient, Address Book no longer shows Groups. I am forced to select from my entire alphabetized contact list. What's going on?

Has the Address Book software changed? Or has Mail changed? For purposes of email, Address Book no longer allows me to find an addressee or several addressees who are members of one of my Groups (or Smart Groups). What happens is this: I open Mail, initiate a new email, put the cursor in the To: box and click the 'Show addresses' icon in the New Message box. The Addresses list shows up in a separate window with an alphabetized listing of all my contacts. It used to allow me to select a Group, but Groups are no longer listed. I have no choice but to select an address (or addresses) from the entire list. Needless to say, this is intolerable.
    Ultimately, I have two questions:
What has changed and can I fix it so it works as it used to?
If I can't fix it, what other email/address book software combination works simply and cleanly so I don't have to live with this frustration.

    This add-on may help:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
I've had this add-on for so long that I can't remember what it does and does not provide.
If you select a List in your Address Book, so that its contents display at the right, does "Export" not write just the Lists's member Contacts out to the csv file?
It does here, but this may be thanks to the above-mentioned add-on.

  • Cannot Send Mail A copy ....was rejected  .. It does not allow relaying

  • Cannot Send Mail error message

    Hey guys,
Having a few email issues. When I'm at home, using wifi, it receives and sends perfectly. However, when out of range, and using my telco's 3g etc connection, it receives messages fine, however when I'm sending the messages stay in outbox with a Cannot Send Mail - One of the recipent addresses was invalid message. The address is fine, and i've tried it with multiple addresses with the same messsage. Interesting, mail send with @"my isp" seem to work.
I've got the settings set up with my ISPs outgoing server, and also my Telco's SMTP server too - which I can't change any of the settings in anyway....
    Any clues??

The first thing that jumps to mind is that while you're away from your ISP's connection, sometimes they require a different port to be used when sending. This isn't the case all the time but again, it's the first thing that came to mind.
Many ISP's require you to be connected directly to them when sending mail from their account. It's really a security measure on their end but most do offer an alternate port that you can change to which will allow you to send when out and about via 3G or another wifi connection, etc.
It's something to look into. I would contact them or look online for their advanced settings.
    Regards,
    Brian

  • Cannot send mail error

All of a sudden I keep getting CANNOT SEND MAIL message. The connection to the smtp.comcast.net server has failed.
I've re-entered the parameters, deleted and re-added the email account, added another server account...nothing works. I can't send mail.

    AlexMaeda,
    This article has more information:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
As for an email provider allowing customers to relay outside of their network, many email providers, set up an authenticating SMTP server on different port. The article above includes information on specifying the port to use.
For example, .Mac accounts can use port 587 as discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75124
You may want to check with your email provider if they offer an authenticating smtp server for people who are traveling or using mobile devices. Many do so without any additional cost, some may charge for access to that service.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.
